Just a Peek! Arthur Morgan x Reader

Disclaimer: Its been years since I have written anything like this. I have never written anything Red Dead based either, so good luck me! It is also 2:10am. Lets go!

(Takes place at Horseshoe Overlook. Before Arthur gets TB. Chapter 2)

It had to be you. 

You just had to be within earshot of Miss Grimshaw so she could tell you to come give her a hand. You knew how pissy she could get when the gang weren’t helping out, and you decided you didn’t want to be at the end of that rant. 

You had been keeping yourself busy by starting the morning camp fire when you heard some commotion coming from the other end of the camp. You stood up, eyes scanning the camp for the crowd of worried voices.

When you heard a boisterous “(Y/N)! Come give me a hand here! Now!” you didn’t waste any time in rushing to find her. You found everyone gathered at the North entrance of the camp. What the Hell was going on?

“Just need some rest... I’ll be fine, honestly.” you thought heard Arthur say faintly.

Arthur.

Is he hurt? What happened to him? Is he oka-

“(Y/N), fetch me some water and a clean cloth. Don’t just stand there day dreamin’!” Miss Grimshaw said hastily, snapping you away from your thoughts. You mentally shook yourself and make a beeline to the nearest basin of water. There’s a washcloth hanging beside it, so you snatch that up and carry the water carefully to Susan. You eventually found her sitting at Arthur’s bedside. She looked up when she heard you approaching. 

You steal a quick glance at Arthur. He’s sitting up on his cot, his shirt had been removed. Susan, on his left side, was carefully washing blood from his shoulder, and he winced with pain. His eyebrows furrowed as he clenched his fists and jaw together. He hasn’t even noticed you yet.

“(Y/N), finally! Leave in down there.” she points to the dresser beside Arthur’s cot. “He got grazed by a bullet, ‘s gonna need stitches, but other than that he’ll be fine.” she reassures you both. She tosses the used cloth on the ground and dips the new one in the basin of cold water. 

“Is there anything else I can do?” you offered, although it already looked like she had it under control. She was basically the mother of the whole gang. Not even Dutch Van Der Linde himself would cross her on a bad day.

“Nothing for now. I’ll get one of them lazy whores to do something. Thank you, (Y/N).” she said, concentrating on removing the dirt and blood from Arthur’s wound. Arthur suddenly flinched as she was cleaning him.

“Jesus, woman! Take it easy!” Arthur growled at Susan, and she rolled her eyes, tutting.

“Mr. Morgan, don’t be such a baby! You have yet to get stitched.” she simply said, and his fowl face made you giggle. He shot you a look, silencing you, but his frown softened when his eyes met yours. You were both quiet now, studying each other.

You always thought he was handsome. A rugged, gruff, and rough-looking handsome. He was made up of the finest whiskey, cigarettes and leather that money could buy. Bloody fist fights and blurry bar nights. And his eyes - the ones that you currently couldn’t look away from - sapphire blue, speckled with flecks of forest green. He could tell you to run away with him and you would do it in a heartbeat, if it meant you could study his eyes a little longer.

Yeah, maybe you liked him. Maybe a little. His eyes suddenly dart from yours and he grumbles in discomfort.  

“What was that for?!” he blurts out, facing Susan. Susan just looks oblivious, and continues dabbing the wound. 

“As you were, Ms. (Y/L/N), as you were.” she says, trying to hide a smile, not meeting your eyes. You nod, giving one last smile to Arthur as you leave them be. What just happened? You think to yourself as you go to fetch yourself some coffee. The camp seems to have calmed down, people were doing chores left right and center.

You should turn around. Just.. Have a peek! Your mind suddenly intrudes. Rude.

Just a look! He’s probably not looking, but you won’t find out unless you look!

You finally give in. Before you disappear behind wagon, you glance over your shoulder.

He was watching you go.
