Jardin aux lilas, a ballet by Antony Tudor for his short-lived Dance Theatre company, 1938. Photo by Angus McBean.
"It was Antony Tudor who first put his women in long dresses, the Edwardian dresses his mother wore. The effect was startling and a real shock to the imagination. The audience was called upon to accept the balletic gesture as a form of simple dramatic communication. It was also asked to watch women who looked like their mothers and aunts kicking over their heads or wrapping their legs around men’s bodies." — Agnes de Mille

It doesn’t matter what others think of you if you are fulfilling your life’s purpose. If you worry about what other people think or say, you give away your power, and that is a surefire way to live an unfulfilled life. You must not try to be like others. Be original. Speak differently, act differently, and work differently.

🇺🇸 On November 10, 2024, Ellen Van Praagh, president of the Dutch Jewish Central Committee and vice president of the European Jewish Association, expressed her concerns over the rise of antisemitism in Amsterdam. Van Praagh recalled how, 15 years ago, her parents predicted a return of such hostility—something she had once dismissed as impossible in Holland. Today, however, she describes incidents of hate on social media and the fear many Jews feel about displaying religious symbols, like the kippa or Star of David, in public due to potential attacks. She also discussed the impact of antisemitism in European universities, where some Jewish students have been excluded from study groups. This resurgence of intolerance, fueled by disinformation and lack of historical knowledge, has raised concerns not only in the Netherlands but also across Europe and the United States, threatening the sense of belonging and safety of many Jewish families.

Missing the days of old tumblr.... tell me how it is? also a newbie witch calling in some new digital friends!
Hi guys. I'm missing my old account on tumblr which consisted of ichiruki memes and posts. Unfortunately got deleted by a narcissistic parent (promise they didn't even know about the tumblr porn).
Since then I've kick started a project I've wanted to do since I was a baby tumblr user. I'm a friggin psychic now and I'd love to meet more people in the community.
✨A 'lil more about me✨
I've done tarot readings for myself since about 14 years old, but decided to take it seriously and started to self-study 2018. From there I soaked up a bunch of occult knowledge revolving mysticism, parapsychology, spiritualism, shamanism, and more.
Now, I'm a certified psychic by the james van praagh school of mystical arts, studying mediumship, and learning more about channeling/clearing my channel with a mentor.
I've been a student for so long and decided I'm at a point where I'm challenging myself to step into being a teacher, though I'm not completely there yet.
So I wanna share more about what I've learned in regards to initiating myself as a psychic, spiritual protection, and general esoteric and witchy things.
Please like, comment, message, or follow because I'd love to follow back and read what other people in this community has to say about these topics.
I'd love to call in a digital community where we can all share each other's wisdom 💜

I loooove when people respond to my saying "I don't believe in ghosts" as my being a closed minded skeptic who has no clue what they're talking about. Baby no. I say I don't believe in ghosts as someone who was designated psychic-clairvoyant-clairsentient-indigo child-highly sensitive person as a child.
I spent all of my youth being told ghosts were always around me; partially because they were attracted to my energy, partially because I was the child of a supposed psychic-medium capable of communicating with the dead and helping them with their problems. I believed evil spirits and demons wanted to spiritually murder me because I had holes in my aura, which turned out to be woo woo speak for unchecked mental illness due to trauma. I read all of my mother's spiritual and new age books (think The Celestine Prophecy, Conversations With God, Saved By The Light, and various James van Praagh and John Edward books), used ouija boards, attended seances, channelled lost souls, and watched her cleanse my bedroom when I felt "presences" or had bouts of sleep paralysis, both of which I had been warned were spiritual attacks. I also witnessed my mother completely change personality for brief episodes, speak to things that weren't there in irritation and then follow up with a different voice, break down when I tried to console her about my sisters death by lying and saying her ghost visited me, and confide in me about wanting to die so she can cross over and be a soul, rejoin her soul group and never reincarnate ever again because she was tired of living.
Not believing in ghosts now is an acknowledgement that much of my childhood was lived in a fear not based in reality because my mother had psychosis that was not at all managed (and, unfortunately, robbed me of a healthy and appropriate relationship with her). I find peace in knowing I am completely safe from the supernatural threats that I was terrified would hunt me down, specifically because I'm the child of the spirit messiah or whatever the fuck she thought she was. I am not a mere skeptic; I have been around the block and have had experiences that many people who scoff at my disbelief now can't even comprehend, and still understand that it all had psychological roots and can be explained using science.
With this post I mean absolutely no disrespect to people who do believe, especially those with cultural ties to the supernatural. But that was my life, and it's so different now, and nothing has happened since I distanced myself from it all to make me start believing again.

OK this isn't a bug or even an arthropod for that matter, and I'm sure it's been brought up in the biology circles of Tumblr before BUT I wanna take a second to talk about the Giant Gippsland Earthworm (Megascolides australis)...
So, I'm sure all of y'all know the typical earthworm, just a few inches long, the type of little guy you find under a rock or in the dirt after a rainstorm, right?
Well, then you have these guys:
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Invertebrate ecologist Beverley Van Praagh holding a Giant Gippsland Earthworm with arms outstretched to show its length / Credit and Source: Rodney Start and Museums Victoria]
These gigantic worms are about 1 metre (3 feet, 3 inches) long, are 2 centimeters (0.79 inches) in diameter on average, and can get up to 3 metres (9 feet, 10 inches) long, yet are still only 200 grams (0.44 pounds) on average! Even their babies are 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) long when they hatch!!
Speaking of the babies, they take a shockingly long time (for an earthworm) to mature! They can reportedly take up to 5 years to reach maturity.
These guys, are, perhaps unsurprisingly, native to Australia (in a relatively small section of Gippsland in Victoria), and only live underground, about 52 centimeters (20 inches) down, in moist clay, near water, and arent really spotted often because of this- However despite the fact they're typically very slow, if they move fast enough in their burrows they can be detected. Why, you may ask? Because it makes a sound, one that sounds like gurgling or sucking apparently.
This species of worm is really fascinating (as are earthworms in general)! and I also feel it's necessary to bring up the fact it's also considered to be endangered
Here's some more reading on this species for those who are interested:

💖 Card Readings by Claire 💖
Hi Friends! I've decided to "hang out my shingle" and offer Oracle Card readings to Tumblr mutuals. My information is below, but please feel free to DM me if you have any questions!
What are Oracle Cards? They're tools that can help you see your problems and issues in a new light, or help you ask new questions or reframe an issue so that you have a clearer view. I currently have three decks that I like to use, and you may choose whichever one speaks to you, or allow me to choose for you. Current decks available are: The Soul's Journey deck by James Van Praagh, Moonology by Yasmin Boland, and Resilience Alchemy by Maude White.
Is this a Tarot reading? No, I'm not currently trained in Tarot card readings, but Oracle Cards are similar in that they can provide messages and new ideas to help you help yourself. Tarot card spreads can be complex, using up to 10 cards in conjunction with each other. The Oracle Card spreads that I like to use are either 1 card or 3 cards, depending on the question you are exploring.
How much are readings? And how do we meet up to do this? I'm offering limited readings right now of 15 minutes for $15 USD, or 30 minutes for $25 USD. I can assist you via email, Tumblr DMs, What'sApp, Discord, voice chat, phone call, or video chat. (DM me to get started!) I currently accept Venmo, PayPal, and Kofi. Depending on your time zone, we'll set a time that works for both of us (I'm based in the US/Central time zone).
The Fine Print (please read!) You are paying for my time and attention during this appointment. Oracle Cards are NOT a fortune-telling device, or a guarantee of what's going to happen in the future, so there are no refunds on this service once we begin our appointment. Payment must be made immediately prior to the appointment time. I reserve the right to decline working with an individual at my discretion (such as cases where I think this service would not help you or would harm you in any way). For my safety and yours, I will only work with adults 18 years of age or older.

“We are all sparks of the Divine, with a purpose here in the physical dimension, and we can all exert our free will. Some of us have lost our way along the path to love, and it is a human reaction to judge others before examining their journey through their eyes and with compassion. Your job is not to judge; your job is to love and understand.”

Psychics
Hello! Today we’re going to be talking about psychics and psychic abilities. Please note this is just a quick overview and there are plenty of books that go more in-depth.
What is a Psychic?
The word "psychic" is derived from the Greek word psychikos ("of the mind" or "mental"), and refers in part to the human mind or psyche (ex. "psychic turmoil"). The Greek word also means "soul". In Greek mythology, the maiden Psyche was the deification of the human soul. The word derivation of the Latin psȳchē is from the Greek psȳchḗ, literally "breath", derivative of psȳ́chein, to breathe or to blow (hence, to live).
A psychic is a person who claims to use extrasensory perception (ESP) to identify information hidden from the normal senses, particularly involving telepathy or clairvoyance, or who performs acts that are apparently inexplicable by natural laws, such as psychokinesis or teleportation. Although many people believe in psychic abilities, the scientific consensus is that there is no proof of the existence of such powers, and describes the practice as pseudoscience. The word "psychic" is also used as an adjective to describe such abilities. Psychics have a natural ability—which can be trained and developed—to "read" the energy surrounding an individual, object, or space, living or inanimate. Just as there are those born with an incredible talent for sports or mathematics, there are others born with an incredible talent to tap into the unseen.
How long have Psychics been around?
French astronomer and spiritualist Camille Flammarion is credited as having first used the word psychic, while it was later introduced to the English language by Edward William Cox in the 1870s.
Elaborate systems of divination and fortune-telling date back to ancient times. Perhaps the most widely known system of early civilization fortune-telling was astrology, where practitioners believed the relative positions of celestial bodies could lend insight into people's lives and even predict their future circumstances. Some fortune-tellers were said to be able to make predictions without the use of these elaborate systems (or in conjunction with them), through some sort of direct apprehension or vision of the future. These people were known as seers or prophets, and in later times as clairvoyants (French word meaning "clear sight" or "clear seeing") and psychics.
Spirit communication became widely banned and stigmatized during the spread of Christianity in the 13th century; religious leaders claimed that psychics were in commune with the devil. Indigenous beliefs and practices were cast out by colonists in the 16th century, and many cultures were forced to follow institutionalized religion. However, certain figures also rose to worldwide popularity—one being Nostradamus who famously made some seriously sizable predictions.
Spiritualism grew in the mid-19th century. Throughout this era, followers held public demonstrations where psychics connected with the spirit world, delivering messages to the audience, messages that confirmed their loved one's presence in the afterlife and held valuable information to help the querent. These days, psychics are allowed to practice openly, and it is not uncommon that your friends, family member, or colleague consults with a psychic regularly. Famous psychics in popular culture include John Henry, Theresa Caputo, Sylvia Brown, and James Van Praagh. They appear on talk shows, write best-selling books, make appearances, and perform public readings to packed auditoriums.
Psychic Abilities
Psychic abilities are better described more so as senses. There are 7 known psychic senses: Clairvoyance (clear seeing), clairsentience (clear feeling), clairaudience (clear hearing), claircognizance (clear knowing), clairscent (clear smelling), clairgustance (clear tasting), and clairtangency (clear touching). Many psychics may have more than just one psychic sense and some may have several.
