imo, there’s a difference between allowing for part distinction (fine) and encouraging part separation (not fine)

it’s not anti-recovery for me to figure out who i am as a part, how i identify, and how i see myself. its not anti-recovery for me to have a fun simplyplural, rentry/carrd, or a pinterest board. we can have separate blogs and do our own things; we can list ourselves separately from each other with our names and pronouns. allowing each part to be distinct in our identity and role(s) is not anti recovery

what is anti recovery is forcing parts to be separate/stay separate, and acting as if we’re completely separate people. while our trauma caused us to compartmentalize to this degree in which we seem completely separate, it is harmful (longterm) to fully lean into the fantasy part of the disorder. the lines between ash and i as separate parts often blur. the instinct for both of us is to push away and keep our identities separate- to fight the integration because that’s how our brain has been wired. we’re learning to be okay with our natural integration as we heal- and it is not a bad thing to still want some distinction despite this

the parts that are perpetually in trauma loops are me, but i don’t currently know or understand what they’re experiencing. because of the nature of the disorder, we do have different experiences and ways that we deal with them. we make up some semblance of a whole, but i am also allowed to explore how i see myself and how i contribute to the whole. (while i do personally feel “whole” as a part, the “parts of a whole” language makes most sense to us as a system)
