Me and my friend talked about what it might've looked like when Arthur first met Void. If she found him (the cutest option in my opinion, like he probably was really alone before her) or if he found her, or if he somehow made her into what she is idk :>

He finds the cat on the side of the road.

It is dying. That much is clear- its breathing is labored and quick, and Arthur can hear its heartbeat, pittering and pattering at a rapid pace in the night.

It's a little creature. Small, black. He almost hadn't noticed it and probably wouldn't have if he didn't have better hearing than any human on earth. New York is a large, bustling city, with many bright spots. But it also has dark corners- and here, in one of those dark corners, lying half in a puddle of rainwater and fur slick with oil and dirt, lies a little black cat.

"I'm sorry," Arthur murmurs, crouching down on his haunches above it. The cat's eyes are closed, but when he speaks, they flicker open. The cat looks up at him, and Arthur watches as its aura flashes between fear and pain, spite lashing through like gentle fire. For such a small creature, it still seems to have spirit. Tucked away in the dark, unable to move, it still tries to hiss at him. "I'm not going to hurt you. I promise. I simply..."

Arthur sighs. He watches as the cat's eyes flicker shut, then open again. He's not sure why he stopped.

He'd gone for a walk in the rain, that's the thing. A walk towards Brooklyn, away from Manhattan, his feet pounding the pavement and watching as cars whizz by in the streets. New York at night is never quiet, but it is quieter, and that's what Arthur likes about it.

It's easy to feel alone in New York City at midnight. You can be surrounded by very many people, and yet know no one at all.

"I guess I just didn't want you to be by yourself," Arthur murmurs quietly, and then reaches a hand out. He skims his fingers down the cat's side, watching its breathing hitch in fear, but the fear drains slightly when all he does is pet the poor thing, once, then twice. He rests his hand on its little head, and the cat looks at him again, the heartbeat slowing.

And Arthur-

He's never done this before. His teeth aren't even sharp, dull and blunt, and it takes effort to bite into his own skin. But he manages to tear a little bit of his inner wrist and he watches as his own blood wells up, bubbling over the edges. It takes very little to lean down and hold his wrist to the cat's mouth. It can't lift its head so he helps, turning its mouth to his skin and finds himself smiling slightly as its small tongue scrapes over his wound, lapping up the little bit of blood he managed to squeeze out.

"I've never done this before," Arthur murmurs, watching as the cat's pupils dilate, as its heartbeat picks up again, as its tail starts to lash back and forth. It licks at his wrist again, then again. "With humans or animals. But I could not let you die alone."

It takes a little while, but sooner than later, the cat manages to stagger to its feet. Arthur reaches out and scoops it- her, he finds- into his arms. She barely weighs a thing, as light as a scrap of paper; as he holds her to his chest and stands up, tucking her gently into his woolen walking jacket, she starts to purr.

"Ah," Arthur says, looking down at her moon-yellow eyes, blinking slowly. Carefully, with purpose, the little kitty blinks back. Arthur looks back out into the street, to the light there, to the blazing artificial suns, then back down into the darkness of his jacket and the pink maw of a creature yawning, then blinking up at him again. "I think I will name you Void," Arthur says, and starts to walk, out of the light and further into the dark, "How does that sound?"

Void, for all her credit, just snuggles closer into his chest.

"Yes," Arthur agrees, something warm blooming in his heart. "Void will do."

Why yes this does mean I love imagining some situations where Set and Iggy put aside their differences for a little to understand each other more with good faith interactions and interests sharing after a slew of disagreements. The change in both their approaches perhaps encouraged by her interaction with Tracer after a while. You know, as unlikely as it is.

Yeah, I imagined Set chewing her out once over her attitude towards omnic music, but they were a little but worried right after, thinking they might have been too harsh about it. Being socially awkward, they didn't know quite how to navigate this. Both of them are flawed individuals in this regard and I guess it makes an interesting dynamic.

Could work with any omnic, really, but you know. Heck, even humans, maybe. Set learning to be gentle just because they care and not to conform is good content. ))

oh, dear. so much for being polite. he's quite sheepish in the face of the other man's surprise, his smile shifting from curious to guilty, though there's a somewhat dismissive narrowing of his eyes. not exactly glaring, but there's more behind the smile than just tender curiosity. very well mannered, this man. he doesn't blame him for it, of course. he supposes it's rather rude of him to have approached in this state of dress, but the truth is ... he so rarely sees people around the castle who do not belong there, already. queen victoria values her privacy, and albert would never deny her it.

"and how would you describe it, then? you're only a painter, certainly no god among men." if his words are meant to offend, he's good at hiding it, so innocently are they spoken! but he genuinely doesn't mean it to be so cruel as it sounds, amusement 'pon his face as he looks past the artisan to the portrait of muted colors behind him. he's right. it's a dreadfully boring piece. "not very ... colorful, is it? i'd hope your usual work is less dreary than my parents. but i can't blame mother. she can't see her own reflection in a mirror, you know. i suppose that's why she asks for so many portraits..."

just an oddity of the 'neath, he assumes. he wonders why he didn't lose his reflection when the city fell. he'd hate to see how pale he looks, now, as he walks to lean 'gainst a nearby table. not to be rude, so much as how out of breath he feels having walked the length of the castle. and now speaking! his heart would give out.

"she'd fire you if you called her that to her face. or execute you... but i won't tell." his nose scrunches, his voice breaking a bit as he holds back a cough. he manages, blessedly. "so we haven't. i am prince lovek, youngest of the victoria's. not quite king of london to be, you can imagine." he squints in the artisan's direction, as if considering him, before raising a hand in an L shape, to frame the man's face. "prince. lovek. my family is old fashioned, so they're like to have warned you of the sickly princess in these halls. are you kinder?"

easier to call it a state of fixation, if not pure entrancement, the artisan and his work. one never works a day in their life, if they find something they love—and how true that was, the simple reverie that comes with every brushstroke, the hum caught under his breath whenever he pulls his hand back to clean the paint off the bristles and mix another. so repeats : a few minutes of actual labour, the rest in preparation, his gaze doesn't lift anywhere it doesn't need to—and even had there been any louder bustle, he isn't sure he would've heard it at all. much less the footsteps of someone stranger.

unsurprising, then, how sharply he lurches back, eyes wide even before he catches sight of him—and then higher, quickly after. the palace despite all her scandal is still a place devoid of depravity, resulting both his shock and temporary distraction to linger less in contrast to how easily he falls back to a state of composure.

" that's a terribly paltry way of describing it, " a small scrunch of the nose, but if he were annoyed—he certainly hides it well, the smile 'cross his lips perfect and porcelain. " it's nothing quite so interesting this time, i'm afraid. though i would be grateful if you didn't relay so much to her, i think i've painted her portrait more times than i could count these last few years alone. " so was the curse of being one of the queen's favorites among her court. he could hardly claim to be ungrateful, how well she paid, though there are only so many extravagant and gaudy dresses one could paint before they all start to blend together.

he lets his gaze drop briefly enough to set his tools aside and grab a spare cloth to wipe his hands clean : no matter how hard he tried, there was no avoiding the colorful stains across his skin. but prettied up enough, he shifts in his seat, propping his arms across his lap to lean against them as his head lolls 'gainst his shoulder as he regards them. small curiosities. " you're old vic's child, was it? i don't believe we've met. "

Behind the Scenes of Blood Communion — Armand & The Kidnappings:

I’ve yapped about Armand in Blood Communion often enough over the years (it does feature one of my all-time favorite Armand moments), and I was always curious as to what was going on in Anne’s mind when she was busy plotting what would become the final book in The Vampire Chronicles—specifically re: the kidnappings and the explosive Lestat/Armand scene in the later half of the book.

Well, her diaries do give us the slightest insight into one of those things at least…

Anne has already mentioned Rose being Rhosh’s first victim and Viktor the second. Here is where she continues immediately after Viktor:

Then he [Rhoshamandes] takes Armand —

No casket comes — But they’ve intensified their hunt — on water —

Then he takes Louis — the most spectacular of all — burning novels of the Chateau — almost destroying Chrysanthe — 

Lestat wants to give himself up.

Think about the order of abductions —

He [Rhoshamandes] + Lestat bargain —

But near dawn —

Maybe only Louis + Armand.

His first vengeance is on the Replimoid buildings — in London —

So… so far it’s tentatively Rose, Viktor, Armand, and Louis that are kidnapped. Gabrielle and Marius haven’t been mentioned as of yet.

However, skipping ahead from page 135 to page 137 where she circles back to this that same day, Marius now enters the chat (briefly):

Louis + Armand are likely enough - I need to think about what he [Rhoshamandes] does - Maybe he should attempt to steal Marius + fail. And then burns the village - the sprinklers save much but the chaos is awful. Then he burns Armand’s house in St. Germain de Pres —

Anne ‘appears’ to have decided on her group of three:

Rhosh has abducted Gabrielle + Louis + Armand.

Lestat has decided to give himself up. —

I always thought at first glance that Louis, Armand, and Gabrielle would make the most sense here tbh. There’s a fandom joke that Lestat would fall in love a McDonald’s apple pie if it was warm out of the microwave and that’s so fucking true! He loves a lot and easily, that’s always been one of my favorite aspects of his personality. I love that he loves love. 🥹 But there are three people that Lestat tends to group together one after the other over and over…

“Whatever happens, it will be worth it,” I said. “That is, if you and I, and Gabrielle, and Armand . . . and Marius are together even for a short while, it will be worth it.” ~ Lestat to Louis, TVL

She [Akasha] stared at me in silence; it seemed she would strike out at me; her face became that of a statue again; and I thought, Well, the moment is now. I will die the way I saw Azim die. I can't save Gabrielle or Louis. I can't save Armand. ~ Lestat, QotD

At the door, I turned and kissed Gabrielle again. I felt her body collapse against me for an instant; then her attention locked on Akasha. I felt the faint tremor in her hands as she touched my face. I looked at Louis, my seemingly fragile Louis with his seemingly invincible composure; and at Armand, the urchin with the angel's face. While there are accessible drafts of her earlier works, if any hardcopy drafts of the VC books exist beyond Blood Canticle, they’re not presently listed at Tulane last I checked. I don’t think she documented in her diaries when she made the decisions for what would become the final canon events here (as far as I can find yet, anyway, there’s a lot I still have to go through). So who knows when, where, and why her original vision evolved, as most novels do before they make it into our hands.

Ultimately as a fan of both Armand and Lestat and their relationship, I’m glad Anne went in the direction that she did! It’s my favorite scene in the book for a lot of reasons—so dramatic and raw and angsty all-around. 🥰 And they end the series on such a sweet and tender note, I have no complaints (especially since I came into the fandom when Blood Canticle was the final word on Lestat and we never heard about Armand post-Blood & Gold). I think it was necessary for them to go through that ordeal together and to finally have their shared baggage and history laid out in the open! Perhaps Anne thought the same? So while I hands-down prefer the canon version, I also do enjoy the alternate possibilities for fic fodder… you know, what if? ;)

So, during a VC one day me and @thevioletscout were talking and joked that Poor Edward would function Very nicely as a type of Urban Legend, Bloody Mary-esque character. I mean look at his name.

And during that same call (or around that time frame), roughly at the same time we had the idea of what fankids of Poor Edward would look like from our respective PCs. So. Here's Helen Wolff! And why, you may ask, is she doing a divination ritual...?

Well.

Girl is getting hassled by suitors at 15-16 and is probably the Most aro-ace person in the entire Neath. So I joked for a long time she'd overheard rumors of a divination ritual to see her fate in marriage, and Celebrates when she thinks she sees a representation of death. Truly, the only time someone would actually be Happy seeing Poor Edward.

And no, she never learned about her mirror dad. Sawyer Wolff kind of ensured she'd never learn about him. But you can't avoid every mirror in London, now can you?

Do you think Jasper is actually Marius? I see that being the popular theory but the “wants power” makes me think no. Marius wants knowdlege not power and it would be a very different take on the character. I’ve seen people say Magnus (obviously not but looks wise he fits for me) and others saying Mael or even Santino.

Uh, no, I do not think he's Marius, sorry.

Marius has been hinted at in both seasons of IWTV, and heavily, and an introduction in another show would not make much sense, imho. I think they would want the impact in IWTV.

Marius is quite important for the story, whether one might like him or not, and so he will be in IWTV, and latest in s4 (depending on whether s3 will be split).

I think Jasper is either someone else in disguise, or an OC, I'm currently leaning towards OC.

Magnus is dead, it is one rather important aspect of the books that he does go into the fire, as it shapes Lestat and pays into later arcs in the books.

Mael or Santino I cannot see either, sorry.

I mean, in the books the "elders" of the Talamasca turn out to be vampires and ghosts (long story), yes, but they usually do not "assume control". And that is apparently exactly what "Jasper has done":

a mysterious American who has quietly assumed control and influence over the Talamasca’s London Motherhouse. Though his motives and methods are cloaked in shadow, his charm and righteous sense of purpose are as dangerous as the power he’s pursuing.

For a vampire to openly assume control... he must be extremely old - or very, very brazen.

IWTV has changed the death sleep during the day already, so a big handicap for the stories/characters has fallen away, granted, but that vampire is still a serial killer - and not everyone would be alright with that.

In the VC there is a subplot Anne dropped (and that they maybe picked up here) where the Talamasca are leaning more towards adversaries, since so many of their members get turned... but how that would fit with the motherhouse in London being taken over I cannot say (yet^^).

And why the Talamasca would allow that... is a whole different matter, too.

Assuming this is one of the founders who is slowly assuming control again then this would be Teskhamen, Marius maker. And I think the casting would fit quite well then.

But I doubt it is Marius himself.
