cultist simulator touhouposting
the sages are an Obliviate splinter group, and Gensokyo is a mini-Noon of their own design. Yukari and Julian Coseley have mad beef and their hate mail contains deep secrets of Knock-lore (Yukari picked a fight with him specifically because of how she remembered her and Renko finding so many occult secrets in his other hate mail and she didn't want to be left out)
the oni are probably an equivalent to the Antaeans - I doubt they're descended from Antaeus himself, but they have enough cthonic associations to be rooted in another child of the Flint and the Wheel. Kasen is the most self-righteous about it and has definitely written self-righteous screeds about the Lithomachy
Mokou and Kaguya aren't an Edge dyad but the Lionsmith and the Colonel are respectively Watching Respectfully. The Hourai Elixir is probably tied to the Meniscate - Eirin might even be a Meniscate Name - and Mokou took after the Forge alignment while Kaguya leans more into Winter
Utsuho is technically a Name of the Forge but has no idea what this means

This is the picture of what they're all using. This will be updated as the playthroughs go on.
Other stuff:
Flirting is fine to an extent, as long as it doesn't make the mod uncomfortable either. Asking what loadouts each of them has (only applies to Okuu and Orin atm) is fine. Any Sexual stuff is prohibited. These characters are not my OC's, they are characters from Touhou Project.
Mod stuff under the cut
Mod is @raish-ryeson-robinson-i
The mod is an adult, but that doesn't give you the right to be creepy.

The Grimoire of the Soul: Protectors of Gensou Town
A group of spiritually sensitive individuals, dedicated to protecting their hometown and friends from Hollows, rogue Soul Reapers, Quincies, and more.
Marisa Kirisame: A kleptomaniac and tomboyish orphan with the ability to see spirits and a big ego regarding herself and her abilities. Substitute Soul Reaper with the Zanpakuto Hakkero. Shikai turns it into a broom that enables her to fly on it like a witch, which is a minor part of its true power, manipulating the power of her Reiryoku to create explosive bursts of energy. Her Bankai, Touhou Hakkero, sends that to its logical extreme, giving her maximum control of her Reiatsu, through an outfit made out of it that resembles a witch’s cloak. However, this isn’t her true Zanpakuto, just a facsimile created by her Reiryoku. Her true Shikai is a smaller broom, as well as a witches hat that enables her to slightly see into the future. Her true Bankai’s powers are still unknown, but it’s been said that it can defy fate.
Release Phrase: “Fly.”
Reimu Hakurei: A Soul Reaper with a very straightforward, exhausted, and money hungry personality and the Zanpakuto Oharai-bou. Her Shikai turns it into a gohei that gives her the ability to fire sealing talismans that paralyze whatever limbs they hit. Her Bankai, Reiiden, activates her ultimate ability, Fantasy Nature, enabling her to float above reality.
Release Phrase: “Seal.”
Youmu Konpaku: A naive gardener with exceptional physical strength and kendo abilities, and a Fullbringer with the Fullbrings, Roukanken and Hakurouken, two blades allowing her to cut through both anything and cut through confusion, causing those she cuts to have their perception slowed down.
Sanae Kochiya: A naive, compassionate, and incredibly eccentric Fullbringer with the ability Everyday Miracle, enabling her to control the wind, as well as being able to give it incredible healing ability.
Sakuya Izayoi: A calm, collected, and bizarre Half-Quincy whose Cross manifests as daggers. Later achieves the Schrift known as the Eternity during the Quincy Blood War, allowing her to control time.
Alice Margatroid: A Bount with the Puppets Shanghai and Hourai. Shanghai holds a sword and, with enough Reiryoku, can fire off energy blasts, while Hourai has the ability to shield the user and cause itself to explode. The two can fuse to form the Goliath Doll, a super powerful Puppet with both of their abilities, at the cost of burning through their own Reiryoku at a lightning fast pace.
Reisen Udongein Inaba: A Quincy with a great superiority complex due to her abilities whose Cross manifests through a gun. Obtains the Schrift known as the Insanity during the Quincy Blood War, enabling her to manipulate insanity and wavelengths.
Eirin Yagokoro: Sakuya and Reisen’s mother, as well as one of the last pure blood Quincy. She’s incredibly arrogant, and genuinely believes she is smarter than everyone around her. Her Cross manifests through the typical Quincy bow and arrow. Her Schrift, gained during the Quincy Blood War, is the Medicine. It enables her to perfectly heal anyone after infusing her blood into theirs.
Rinnosuke ‘Kourin’ Morichika: A former Soul Reaper and caretaker of Marisa with the Zanpakuto Kourindou, which is also the name of his shop. His Zanpakuto’s Shikai allows him to find out the name and ability of any other ability after cutting the individual using it. His Bankai, Kourindou no Shinajina, enables him to temporarily rewrite a rule of a single person’s ability. He, however, cannot make the rule ‘I cannot attack Rinnosuke Morichika or any person he desires with my ability.’
Release Phrase: “Get a good sale.”
Utsuho ‘Okuu’ Reiuji: A dimwitted, yet highly intelligent when it comes to Kido techniques, former member of the Kido Corps who now serves as Rinnosuke’s assistant. She used to be Captain of the Kido Corps, despite her relative stupidity, before being forced out due to the machinations of a Captain 100 years ago, and during her tenure, created a powerful ability known as Shunko, manipulating her Reiatsu to be as destructive and powerful as a nuclear bomb.
Mamizou Futatsuiwa: A shifty and calmly menacing, yet ultimately well meaning former Soul Reaper who was formerly a Captain of the Second Division. Her Zanpakuto is Tanuki, enabling her to transform into anything she slices three times, including fellow Soul Reapers. Her Bankai is Bake-danuki, causing her to transform both herself and others into anything, obtaining their abilities too.
Release Phrase: “Trick them.”

Itsuwaribito characters as DND builds: group utsuho
I'm at work. My mind is on this. I don't often look at Tumblr anymore but this is the most appropriate place for this. Doing 5 per as that's average party size.
Utsuho: is a rouge obviously. Subclass id go with mastermind and put his starting expertise in deception and investigation. You can add the keen mind feat and layer pick up insight expertise as well.
Yakuma: is a life cleric. A pretty simple heal and support role but you can give him expertise in medicine with the feat skill expert if you so wish. Probably the only one in the party not on the chaotic side of the alignment spectrum.
Neya: dex based fighter. You can go a variety of subclasses here but I personally would pick battlemaster. Alternatively you could go hunter ranger and take volley at later levels.
Hikae: hear me out. Hikae is a warlock. He's an undead warlock at that. Nue is his patron and the weird cat form thing is his form of dread.
Iwashi: she's a glamour bard. I don't have any specific for you at this time about this choice but it just seems right.
----
Bonus, Tsukumo is a kensai monk with his tonfa being his kensai weapon.
I also have group kuroha worked out but for now this is what I have for group utsuho.

Village Secrets || Headcanon || On Painted Angels Wings
Tumblr media
Just some general hc's for her dnangel tag.
For now Neya squatslives in an abandoned warehouse somewhere in azumano. Her attempts at avoiding the police after being caught and getting off with a warning the first time have been successful thus far but she's working on trying to find a different spot to live. Preferably this abandoned house she's been scoping out...
modern-day yen confuses her so she only collects the coin pieces because they look similar to the mon coins from her time period. Due to this she keeps a pouch full of coins and is an absolute nightmare for all cashiers in Azumano.
She sometimes reads the local paper to keep up with events going on around town and was surprised to learn about how infamous and popular Dark is around town.
she still keeps sometimes accidentally blowing up microwaves in the convenience marts, but has gotten better at using them!
She does a lot of second-hand shopping and hits up local markets for cooking ingredients once she gets comfortable enough to explore the town more, and finally saves up enough money to buy herself a campfire cookware set, a cutting board, basic cooking utensils, and a fire-starting kit.
Due to her time spent on Nadeshiko Island and traveling around with Utsuho and their group, Neya is a really good survivalist! Since she has no way of keeping fresh food for long, she's made small racks out of the extra wood lying around the warehouse that she's whittled down and smoothed out with her kunai to air dry and preserve her cooked meats to eat for a later day or use them as fillings for her onigiri.
Neya often hunts for fish in the local river or buys a lot of cheap quick meals from the nearby konbini if she can't go out fishing. Instant rice has also become one of her favorite modern-day staples. She keeps a bunch of the takeaway containers to reuse for keeping leftovers and such.
After the positive response for his birthday. Once she gets her cooking set Neya wants to make a proper meal for Daisuke for them to share one day. She didn't realize how much she missed cooking for other people until seeing his gratitude. She'll have to ask him about it, and maybe Dark wouldn't also mind a bite to eat either…

I will say Satori's reverse psychology is at least relieving knowing that she wasn't genuinely planning on abandoning Utsuho and separating her forever. She's not that cruel and not that shortsighted. I also suspect this was Yukari's idea too. Maybe a test to ensure Mizuchi stayed in Old Hell long enough to befriend Yuugi instead of bolting the first chance she had.
And yeah I figured Mizuchi's backstory is gonna be like Kasen being an Oni. A closely guarded secret. It also brings me hope Reimu will finally catch and "exterminate" the Geidontei group while ultimately accepting them.
As far as addressing things: that was actually my first reading. Reimu knows full well sealing off Old Hell forever is not a good option, or even a tolerable one. She's been running away from her past this whole manga and now things are gonna be set straight.
If Reimu isn't understanding, though, then I hope Mizuchi wins. Maybe if she feels she won against the Hakurei Shrine, she'll feel vindicated enough to abandon her serial coma-ing for the time being.
I get the feeling Detective Satori is gonna end on a sour note regardless of who wins. Either Reimu exterminates Mizuchi and her ancestors' crimes are swept under the rug, or Mizuchi "saves humanity from the youkai" or something like that by basically continuing her rampage indefinitely.
Perhaps a "banquet at the shrine" ending would be the best outcome?
While her claim that she didn't really expect to succeed and was just causing a mess to vent some steam somewhat undermines the tension of the manga thus far, that tension was always kind of a weird point, so I consider this a net positive. It brings her more in line with a not-completely-delusional Touhou character and means that in the end, she and Reimu may both be decently content if they just get some catharsis out of it.
I'm not sure what option there is for the Hakurei Shrine's history to not be swept under the rug: it can be revealed to the reader and a select few characters, and I sure freaking hope it will, but it's not like Gensokyo was ever going to be destroyed or really reformed, so the most she's really gonna get is acknowledgment and maybe some sympathy. And it seems like she's already getting both from Yuugi, so, halfway there.
I don't know if Reimu herself can manage to be openly or even quietly sympathetic, or even tolerant; though there is an alternative reading of the previous chapter that she's going after Mizuchi not only because "it's personal", but because she feels some need to address things. Satori also makes it sound like she was just reverse-psyching Reimu to go after Mizuchi, which is kind of tired to be honest, but makes you wonder whether her desired outcome is to just get this over with or if she also has some sympathy for Mimi and wants to force the Reimu-Mimi confrontation or something. Wouldn't gel with everything thus far, I'm sure, but what does, really?
Regardless, in that sense, I think the reveals and interactions in this chapter made a "happy ending" far more likely than it ever was. I'm also glad to see her having more (or any) interactions with people "as herself", as connections like that are probably her best hope to survive in the fandom for any time after this manga ends.

Names of the kaiju/kaijin in Touhou Lost Word
I noticed that the kaiju/kaijin enemies had names from Chinese books and Taoism, so I wanted to compile them to see if there’s a pattern, maybe? This game brings out my wild theorist side lmao If there are any inaccuracies just let me know, all of this I’ve just learned with Googling and spare time, haha. Sekibanki - Shen Gongbao: Taoist god from novel Investiture of the Gods
Futo - Taiyi Zhenren: Taoist god, apparently a deity of salvation, the “perfect being” who embodies both halves of yin and yang - possibly referencing Futo’s quest to get immortality?
Satori - Lei Ting: might be another name for the Taoist god Lei Gong? seems to mostly refer to coin talismans that invoke Lei Gong’s power to protect the user against malevolent spirits Utsuho - Leizhenzi: Taoist god of thunder, connected to Leigong? From wiki: “he found two large apricots at the edge of the cliff and ate them both with due haste. Immediately following this, to his surprise, two large wings suddenly sprouted from Leizhenzi's back and his face became like that of a monster's“ - possibly referencing Utsuho swallowing Yatagarasu?
Flandre - Mahamayuri: a bodhisattva and one of the Wisdom Kings in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, who are apparently pretty wrathful, but she serves as a calmer contrast to them Seiga - He Xiangu: one of the Taoist Eight Immortals, apparently the only lady in the group Saki - Black Qilin: a kirin, basically, legendary beast with chimera attributes, that (from wiki) “said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler”
Ran - Daji: evil fox spirit, legendary femme fatale character who seduced the emperor and had a lot of people tortured for entertainment
Kasen - Jinling Shengmu: Taoist god from novel Investiture of the Gods
Kogasa - Vaisravana: Bishamonten aka patron god of the Myouren crew.........we already know him lol
Benben - Virupaksa: one of the Buddhist Four Heavenly Kings
Tenshi - Qi Tian Da Sheng: the name of a specific story from Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio (the book Seiga herself comes from), means “The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal”, but also seems to refer to Sun Wukong himself (who the story is about)
Yachie - Xuanwu: Taoist god, the Black Tortoise of those big four Chinese constellations
Iku - Dragon Prince of the East Sea: might be referring to Ao Guang, who appeared in both Investiture of the Gods and Journey to the West
Shou - Kubera: god in Hinduism corresponding to Bishamonten/Vaisravana

Who are your favourite touhous?
It's hard to pick! Usually it's the Chiiriden group (The Komeijis + Rin and Utsuho), though Byakuren, Nue, Aya, Megumu... all are good!

So, about the new fic. Like I’ve said before, descended from this thing. The current planned title is The World, Upside Down, but I reserve the right to change it if I find one that I like better. Which I would like to do, but seems unlikely.
My earliest outlines for this story go back to April 2014. In those almost seven years the core concept hasn’t changed much: All the characters are shuffled around into different positions and lives, but rather than being an AU the swap is an actual thing that happened, and people figure it out. Many things ensue. Even a lot of the individual plot beats haven’t changed all that much. I just had to flesh out a whole lot of stuff in the process, which is why this ended up being almost 150,000 words.
And the swapping is why it took six years.
The very first part that popped into my head for this was ‘oh, Yukari could be the Hakurei shrine maiden!’ So I decided that all of the hierarchies had been inverted, and I was shoehorning Reimu into the Yakumo family because it isn’t like she’s in a hierarchy. ... which is kinda the problem. If the hierarchies just swap, then what the heck happens to, like, Mokou? (Pay attention to Mokou, she spent the next five years repeatedly ruining my life.) Okay, so obviously that couldn’t work.
The next idea was just to take prominent pairs and swap them. So Yukari and Reimu swap, and Mokou and Kaguya swap, and... okay so if Kaguya swaps with Mokou, what happens to Eirin, Reisen, and Tewi? If they don’t swap with her, then the majority of characters aren’t changing. If they do swap with her, then... I actually did have one short-lived draft where Eirin/Reisen/Tewi were some kind of human devotees of immortal human Kaguya, and I got about thirty words into it before I decided this sucked.
Next idea! Each faction swaps or inverts, but not both. This one mostly worked. You can sort everyone out like this. It had two big problems, though: 1) I found it kind of hard to keep track of the characters, and some of the roles just didn’t work well. There are lots of factions where if you invert them, you get, like... White Hare of Inaba Eirin, or Buddhist Magician Kyouko. Which were both big enough swaps that I pretty much had to reinvent everyone from the ground up, and hard enough to keep track of that I thought readers would just lose patience for it. And 2) It didn’t shake things up enough in places. I found it kind of weird to, like, have Reisen be a human maid, and meanwhile Yuyuko just has 50% Less Ghost. So no more Mokou problem, right? Kaguya can just get swapped with another faction along with the rest of Eientei, Mokou can swap with Keine, Akyuu can swap with Kosuzu, which leaves... Rinnosuke with nowhere to go. Goddammit Mokou.
So what I finally settled on is: All of the factions swap, and individual characters swap with each other apart from very few circumstances. In some cases, these swaps can be circular. (Remilia &co in Eientei, Kaguya and friends in Chireiden, and Satori’s gang in the SDM, for example.) Then, and here’s the important part, everyone just rearranges to whatever feels right to me. So fuck it, however you wanna parse the hierarchies of the two factions, as a Lunarian Patchouli’s the pharmacist because she’s the most Eirin-like of the group. Yukari’s in charge of the Yakumos, but as a Hakurei she’s below two goddesses because she makes the best Reimu substitute. Etc. This one, I finally found easy enough to remember, and everyone felt pretty natural in their roles.
And then I took all the stuff that still bugged me and made it into plot points, because really, you cannot make a perfect, 100% consistent system for this.
Anyway, the character list I ended up with, incident resolvers in italics:
Hakurei Shrine Ran (Calculating Goddess of the Hakurei Shrine) Chen (Black Cat Apprentice Goddess) Yukari Hakurei (Elusive and Two-Faced Shrine Maiden)
Forest of Magic Alice Kirisame (Seven-Colored and Tactical-Minded Magician) Marisa Margatroid (High-Firepower Puppeteer)
Hakugyokurou Eiki Saigyouji (Supreme Ghost of the Netherworld) Komachi Konpaku (Half-Human, Half-Phantom, Half-Diligent Gardener)

Human Village (and environs) Hieda no Mokou (Nine-Generation Immortal Human Sage) Akyuu Kamishirasawa (Half-Beast Savant) Rinnosuke Motoori (Modest and Content Bibliophile) Kosuzu Morichika (Junk Collector with a Deciphering Eye)

Everyone in the main group shares a watermelon! How do they eat it?
- aUaC
Tumblr media
(I couldn’t find any watermelon art so here’s the group with popsicles! Also, my brain juices weren’t creative enough to come up with unique headcanons so I’ve formatted this response a lil differently~)
The-eats-it-in-slices-like-a-normal-person-squad:
Neya, Yakuma, Chouza, Tsukumo
They’ll also sprinkle on a little bit of salt.
The-insists-on-doing-suika-wari-squad:
Utsuho and Uzume.
Suika wari literally translates into “watermelon breaking”. It’s a game where the player tries to strike a watermelon while blindfolded.
For heaven’s sake, please don’t let Uzume play unless you’re okay with eating nothing but watermelon dust.
The-eats-it-as-watermelon-cubes-or-juice-squad:
Pochi and Minamo.
This is usually because the people around them insists on cutting/juicing it up for them. Namely Utsuho, Neya, and Uzume.
Any leftover watermelon rinds can fit onto Pochi’s head like a hat.
The-unusual-way-of-eating-squad:
Iwashi and Hikae.
Iwashi will somehow make a watermelon cocktail, complete with the little toothpick parasol.
Or the drink is purple and making demonic sounds and probably needs an exorcism. One or the other. There is no in between.
Hikae can and will eat the whole watermelon. Seeds, rind, and all.

10 Touhou Characters I Really Like
I did a 10 Characters, 10 Fandoms post and couldn’t come up with a singular candidate to represent TouHou Project, so this is my answer.
1. Fujiwara no Mokou
Tumblr media
She was super close to being my pick for the previous list. I started having a bigger appreciation for Mokou around a year ago, and I think writing fanfiction and shipping her with Kaguya is mainly why. Love her design, and her dynamics. And all the angst potent in writing- (but also how laidback she actually is in canon).
2. Toyosatomimi no Miko
Tumblr media
Also came close to being my pick for the last list. The gif pretty much explains everything: her hairstyle, her cape, her headphones, her wife. She and Tojiko are another of my main Touhou ships. I could honestly talk a lot about that. And my Touhou ships in general. I should make a list on that-
3. The Scarlet Sisters (Remilia and Flandre)
Tumblr media
Originally was just gonna be Flan, but found this nice gif of the both of them. Flan was the first Touhou character I declared my favorite, and the SDM remain my favorite group from the franchise. Also love the sisterly relationship they have, as well as Remilia’s balance between formal and immature. If I could just find a nice gif of the whole mansion crew, I would’ve just put that as my Touhou entry on the 10 fandoms list.
4. Suika Ibuki
Tumblr media
I remember drawing her on my old school binder (and Flan too actually). And despite the fact I intended my current AO3 pfp to be a placeholder, chibi Suika remains the face of my AO3 account. Like Remilia, she has a balance of maturity and immaturity, but for completely different reasons (they key reason being alcohol). I just really love my one fanfc (crossover, and really long) where I embrace the Shuten-douji aspect of her character. And by embrace, I mean drill deeeeep into that iceberg.
5. Clownpiece
Tumblr media
I have yet to play LoLK, but I did play one of the fanmade mobile games, and oh my god how I spammed my Discord friends with that torment. Still! I’m weak to her aesthetics and theme songs that I just can’t stay mad.
6. Eiki Shiki
Tumblr media
You can blame Memories of Phantasm for this. (and her theme song; actually that’s a pretty good explanation for a lot of my favorites...) I know she’s probably not actually that short, and she isn’t as strict, but fanon is fun! Although I do love the idea of her giving lectures in the mortal world because she actually does care about keeping people out of Hell. She should really be allowed to leave PoFV and not just be a cameo or brief mention in recent games (and least the literature still uses her from time to time).
7. Medicine Melancholy
Tumblr media
And speaking of “please bring back earlier casts”! A PoFV character so underrated, there was only 3 gifs of her with gif search. I really fell in love with the theory that the real Medicine is the tiny doll and Su-San is the human body being controlled. But I also just love child characters with more serious characteristics.
8. Seija Kijin
Tumblr media
Another case of “blame writing fanfiction”. There was something really special about experimenting with her, given I didn’t pay much attention to her at first. I started to love the potential for arcs and dynamics just her ability brought, given how her very nature as an amanojaku means she kinda has a passive ability of always reversed in a way.
9. Daiyousei
Tumblr media
I feel like Daiyousei and Koakuma are less underrated than Medicine (and probably other early, lower stage bosses), even tho they technically don’t have official names. I swear that one Halo-Touhou crossover fic completely shaped my character appreciations, because I also liked Dai more because of it. She’s a cutie, but canonically kind of a blank state. Which really makes it fun to speculate and explore relationships, personalities, and backstories with her. So I guess in a way it makes her more of a doll than Medicine too.
10. Hieda no Akyuu
Tumblr media
Akyuu’s special, in a way no Touhou character really has matched. She’s the only one with true visible aging in a setting that feels like it’s stuck in time, and maybe that’s partially because of who she is - the Child of Miare. The one who’s not gonna live past her 30′s. My favorite version of her is when she’s like 10, for the same reason why I like Medicine and charismatic!Remilia. But in recent time I’ve grown interest in her older versions, especially with one lingering thought (and fear). Is Zun really gonna kill her off in a few years? Will future Touhou media feature a dead Akyuu in the Ministry of Right and Wrong? Or is she gonna find a way to live longer? I really can’t say for either (heard one of the literature mentioned her getting interested in youkai books, which may be early seed planting). But Akyuu may just be the first Touhou casualty (that wasn’t part of a backstory), and whether or not it happens, I’m excited to see what the dramatics of it all may stir up.
Unless Zun decides to retcon or ignore it. That’d just be disappointing.
Honorable Additions Because 10 Just Isn’t Enough
11. Komeiji Sisters (Satori and Koishi)
Tumblr media
12. Utsuho Reiuji
Tumblr media
13. Nitori Kawashiro
Tumblr media
14. Kyouko Kasodani
Tumblr media
15. Saki Kurokoma
Tumblr media
(no gifs...?!)
16. Narumi Yatadera
Tumblr media
17. Chen

Village Secrets || Random Headcanons
Tumblr media
Neya is very self-sufficient on her own. Since leaving Nadeshiko Island and traveling with Utsuho she's learned a lot of things during their travels. Thanks to Yakuma she can identify various types of plants and wildlife that would be useful in medicines or even edible. When it comes to cooking outdoors she has no problems with foraging or hunting and knows how to skin and clean various animals including but not limited to rabbits, fish, bears, boar, etc for meal purposes.
She's very adept when it comes to sewing. During her time on Nadeshiko, she would often help the elders patch up holes in the men's clothes and sew together fabrics for the younger kids to wear. Traveling with Utsuho really puts her skills to the test thanks to Hikae, who actively approaches dangerous situations with no fear due to his inability to die. More often than not he's the main one who needs his clothing patched up, followed by Uzume mostly due to his recklessness.
She wants to become closer friends with Chouza because he's another member of their group who is so difficult to read. Sometimes she'll ask him to go shopping with her when they reach a big village or town and uses the time they have alone to get to know him better.
