Village Secrets || Headcanon || Time Period

Iinuma is not very straightforward when it comes to info dumping. Although the series is complete there are still many things I have questions for that will never be answered. One of the biggest ones being what time period is Itsuwaribito set in! Since we never get an outright answer I just have to guess and play it by ear.

Here's a very vague info dump on some established things I can recall to help get an idea of what era Utsuho and the gang are from.

Utsuho gets a lot of his information through scrolls. It was he who suggested they make a hot air balloon to get off Nadeshiko Island, Neya on the other hand had never heard of such a thing until he mentioned it.

When Yakuma is first introduced he's stationed in a small village trying to help their leader who is very sick but initially refuses to allow Yakuma to operate on him due to surgery being very new and unfamiliar in japan at the time.

The center of Japan is referred to as 'the capital'.

the currency used is mon (bronze and silver metal pieces) and ryo (gold koban-like coin pieces)

Guns exist in the form of bulky shotguns and aren't commonly used but are known, other weapons such as canons, arrows, swords, kunai, and crossbows are also still utilized.

For now all I can assume is that the series is set somewhere between the Muromachi and Meiji eras, or it's like some mash-up of feudal era japan.

NAME — Muito Neya PROFESSION —Itsuwaribito / Treasure hunter WHERE THEY CAN BE FOUND — Traveling around Japan or staying temporarily in a local village nearby.

FAVORITE FOOD TYPE — Carrots. Neya likes dishes with carrots in them! For bonus heart points, give her donuts!

FAVORITE ALCOHOLIC DRINK — Neya is considered an adult for her time period, so she would be able to drink. However, she's not much of a drinker as she doesn't necessarily enjoy the taste of sake. She did try amazake once with Iwashi and Chouza and found she enjoyed the sweeter taste, but ultimately Neya would rather have tea instead.

WHERE THEY WOULD GO ON A DATE — Neya is a hopeless romantic who's never even held a boy's hand. Suggesting they even go on a date might send her into overdrive. All her ideas of romance and relationships come from stories she's read or heard where the themes of romance have been greatly exaggerated. She wouldn't have any idea about where they could go but maybe suggest they take an evening stroll around the village or walk up the mountains during a warm night when the moon is full and the stars are shining brightly!

IDEAL GIFT — Bow and Arrows or Kunai. Neya's preferred weapon is her throwing knives, but she also shows great proficiency with a bow. Due to the string on her old one being cut and making it difficult to carry and conceal, she doesn't keep one on her. Neya's also not very materialistic. She will appreciate any and all gifts you give her. Even if it's something as simple as a handwritten card with homemade decorations or something she'd love it, because it was given to her with someone's thought and effort put into it.

HOW MANY DATES UNTIL THEY KISS — Several. They would absolutely have to get to know each other and be comfortable enough to want to go through with it. While Neya might fantasize about kissing her crush and being whisked away in his arms, she'd probably never make the first move or perhaps attempt to but then she awkwardly fumbles and the embarrassment sets in so she backs down real quick. However, Neya also would be under the assumption that as soon as they kissed the next logical step would be asking for her hand marriage and she's not sure she's ready for that type of commitment just yet.

Village Secrets || Headcanon || On Painted Angels Wings

Just some general hc's for her dnangel tag.

For now Neya squatslives in an abandoned warehouse somewhere in azumano. Her attempts at avoiding the police after being caught and getting off with a warning the first time have been successful thus far but she's working on trying to find a different spot to live. Preferably this abandoned house she's been scoping out...

modern-day yen confuses her so she only collects the coin pieces because they look similar to the mon coins from her time period. Due to this she keeps a pouch full of coins and is an absolute nightmare for all cashiers in Azumano.

She sometimes reads the local paper to keep up with events going on around town and was surprised to learn about how infamous and popular Dark is around town.

she still keeps sometimes accidentally blowing up microwaves in the convenience marts, but has gotten better at using them!

She does a lot of second-hand shopping and hits up local markets for cooking ingredients once she gets comfortable enough to explore the town more, and finally saves up enough money to buy herself a campfire cookware set, a cutting board, basic cooking utensils, and a fire-starting kit.

Due to her time spent on Nadeshiko Island and traveling around with Utsuho and their group, Neya is a really good survivalist! Since she has no way of keeping fresh food for long, she's made small racks out of the extra wood lying around the warehouse that she's whittled down and smoothed out with her kunai to air dry and preserve her cooked meats to eat for a later day or use them as fillings for her onigiri.

Neya often hunts for fish in the local river or buys a lot of cheap quick meals from the nearby konbini if she can't go out fishing. Instant rice has also become one of her favorite modern-day staples. She keeps a bunch of the takeaway containers to reuse for keeping leftovers and such.

After the positive response for his birthday. Once she gets her cooking set Neya wants to make a proper meal for Daisuke for them to share one day. She didn't realize how much she missed cooking for other people until seeing his gratitude. She'll have to ask him about it, and maybe Dark wouldn't also mind a bite to eat either…

Village Secrets || Random Headcanons

Neya is very self-sufficient on her own. Since leaving Nadeshiko Island and traveling with Utsuho she's learned a lot of things during their travels. Thanks to Yakuma she can identify various types of plants and wildlife that would be useful in medicines or even edible. When it comes to cooking outdoors she has no problems with foraging or hunting and knows how to skin and clean various animals including but not limited to rabbits, fish, bears, boar, etc for meal purposes.

She's very adept when it comes to sewing. During her time on Nadeshiko, she would often help the elders patch up holes in the men's clothes and sew together fabrics for the younger kids to wear. Traveling with Utsuho really puts her skills to the test thanks to Hikae, who actively approaches dangerous situations with no fear due to his inability to die. More often than not he's the main one who needs his clothing patched up, followed by Uzume mostly due to his recklessness.

She wants to become closer friends with Chouza because he's another member of their group who is so difficult to read. Sometimes she'll ask him to go shopping with her when they reach a big village or town and uses the time they have alone to get to know him better.

VERSE TAG

A modern day verse with a twist. Neya gets flung into the future unexpectedly and now has to deal with adapting to modern Japan. All that came with her is the clothes on her back and the weapons strapped to her thigh. This version of Neya is set just after the events of Chapter 147 and Tsukumo officially joins the group. This verse is literally just so I can throw Neya at more modern characters.

THINGS TO KNOW

Currently does not have a home (subject to change). She moves from place to place to find shelter, steals what she can when she needs to, and uses the public bathhouses for personal grooming and care.

Refers to donuts as sweet circles.

Modern technology is a new and scary experience for her. Refers to microwaves as the magic box of heating and warming. Is also terrified of them because they always make sounds like an explosive going off (she keeps sticking metal inside them).

Has a very old and retro pink flip phone that was gifted to her by her friend @kawaiidollhouse's Riruka. Riruka is also the only contact in it.
