Nyah Mway: The Boy Who Will Forever Be 13
Tumblr media
Utica police shooting of teenaged Karen refugee brings new trauma to community haunted by war.
Tumblr media
“We chose to come here not for my wife or for me, but for the kids. I didn’t want them to be poor and uneducated like what I faced,” says Nyah’s father, Ka Lee Wan, speaking through a translator in Burmese, his second language.
Tumblr media
“I want to ask those police, why did they do this to my son? If somebody killed their kid, their relative, what would they say?”

Had a dream where there was a documentary about regular people who have the same name as celebrities, and there was a whole section dedicated to just serial killers.
One guy named Theodore Bundie was interviewed. He was an office worker from Utica. He went on to talk about how he's 40 years old, but people are so stupid that they really think that he's Ted Bundy, so it's still affecting his life.
Like, he has no girlfriend because “women think I'm gonna kill them”, he's stuck at an office job because it doesn't involve talking to people (previous bosses didn't like the idea of him interacting with customers) and the only person in his life that loves him despite his name is his cat.
But what was KILLING ME about Theodore Bundie was that he was black!!!!!! So I was yelling at the TV like “DO PEOPLE NOT REALIZE TED BUNDY WAS WHITE????? WHAT THE FUCK?? HE'S BLACK! WHY WOULD YOU THINK HE'S TED BUNDY WHEN HE'S BLACK???”
They also interviewed a guy named Jeff Dahmer who was REALLY into serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Like, he dedicated his life to dressing + talking just like Jeffrey Dahmer. Bro literally told the camera “One of these days I'm gonna kill a hooker to REALLY live up to my name!”.
I turned to my cat and I said “Bro are you SEEING this?? Lock him up” and he went MRRAWR and I woke up.
