I can tell there are a bunch of new people on this webbed site because I keep getting recommendations to try essential oils.
Hi, yeah. I'm the mean bitch that got screen capped all over Facebook and Pinterest a few years ago, debunking essential oil myths and informing people about actual essential oil safety, so you don't accidentally kill your dog/child/self.

A word To build a scenario around... Steam
thank you for the prompt, anon! ♡ here it is (with some gratuitous references to contagion... you know me)
-
a character who's the type to prioritize self care over everything... who lives luxuriously, the type to resort to everything from expensive spa days to unwind, the type who's familiar with every natural remedy in the book, because really, even the slightest ailment is a perfect excuse to take it easy and even pamper themselves a little bit
the same character who feels themselves coming down with a terrible, incredibly contagious cold. but for whatever reason - maybe their boss urges them to come in (it's just a small cold, after all, and so much work still needs to get done), or maybe because they're just so confident in their home remedies to do the trick - they head to work anyways.
their desk becomes a mini pharmacy for the day - soft lotion tissues, three different tins of tea specifically meant to relieve cold and flu symptoms, herbal cough drops, a few cooling salves for their red, irritated nose, hot packs for their sinuses, a humidifier for the congestion. after all... if they're going to have to work with this cold, why not make their time here as comfortable as possible?
but still, despite every remedy, their cold turns out to be annoyingly persistent - they're just so congested they can hardly breathe through their nose, plagued with a tickle (not severe enough to catalyze a sneeze, in most cases, but present enough to be very distracting) in their nose which won't leave them alone no matter what. even worse, every sneeze is irritatingly unproductive; it does nothing to relieve the tickle - in fact, it almost seems to make it worse...
they make it to halfway through the afternoon where they decide they can't stand it anymore - they're not feeling too terrible, but this is certainly annoying, and that's enough of a reason for them to put an end to it once and for good. breathing in steam can be therapeutic, and even better, it's supposed to relieve congestion, right?
after a few moments consideration, they swipe the small vial of lavender essential oil off their desk. they've never been fond of this particular vial compared to the other essential oils they own - it always leaves them sniffly and teary eyed - but perhaps that would be a welcome side effect, just this once.
from there, they head into the break room and boil some water using the coffee machine (so what if they end up sneezing a few times, all over the coffee machine, misting the company countertops? it's not like they can control when they sneeze... with this cold, every sneeze just sneaks up on them; it's not their fault that they're not always able to cover.) they pour the boiling water out into a large bowl, drop a few drops of the lavender essential oil inside, and take a seat at one of the tables in the break room, which - aside from them - is thankfully empty.
the first breath of hot, fragrant steam does wonders for their congestion, which they can feel start to loosen for the first time, making their nose run. they haven't brought any tissues with them... perhaps that was an oversight, but the steam is just so relieving, they can't just stop now...!
the next few breaths, they can really start to smell the lavender, and... oh, the tickle in their nose sharpens with such intensity it takes them off guard.
"heh... hEhh... HIH-! hheh-Hhehh... heh... hehH..."
god, their nose tickles so badly; it's practically begging for relief. they lean their head down, taking another deep breath in through their nose.
"hehH... hehh-HEH-!" fuck, so close, just a little more... "hheh... HehhH.... hh-heh-Hehh-HEHh-!! HEHH'IIHHSHIEEEW!"
it's as if that first sneeze completely opens up the floodgates, snapping them forward - only for them to inhale a huge breath of hot steam. they wipe their nose on one palm, but even the slightest pressure against their nose seems to increase the tickle tenfold. everything smells like so strongly of lavender, it's - HEHh-! making them - heh-HEHh - h-have to -
"HEHH'ISSSHHIEw! hHAH'IITSHuUH! heh... heh-hEhh-HEHh-hHEH'TCHIIIEEEW! hH... hHIh! hahh-HAh-AHH.... AHH'IIIITTSCHHUueE!"
every sneeze absolutely drenches the table beneath them. they lift their hands to halfheartedly shield the first couple of sneezes, but with the number of particles that escape through their fingertips regardless, does it really even matter? it's not like anyone else is in the break room, after all. they turn their head aside to keep from spraying the table (even if all that accomplishes is spread their cold in the other direction.)
besides... don't they deserve to sneeze after having not been able to sneeze all morning, aside from the few terribly unsatisfying sneezes they'd had to put up with? isn't it only right that they get relief from this annoying cold as soon as possible? they need to get all the viruses out of their system to get rid of this cold... each messy, spraying sneeze sets them closer on the path to recovery. the tickle in their nose is really just there to help them sneeze out their cold as soon as possible, so why not coax it even further, make this process a little faster? really, they're doing their body a favor as they breathe in more steam, as they give in to the tickle in their nose, as they sneeze and sneeze and sneeze...
(maybe that's what they think, but they've left the air so utterly saturated with their cold viruses that it's no wonder that half the office comes down with the same miserable, messy cold in the weeks following, leading to more than a few dirty looks... after all, they brought their cold to work, and they hadn't exactly been subtle about it)

patting myself on the back for enforcing the most basic of boundaries with my mother by refusing to talk to her until tomorrow after she tried to insist on calling me for the fourth time today in as many hours because i'm sick and she wants to "check up" on me. this is why i don't talk to you unless i have to!!! because you'll use any excuse to be up in my business every 5 minutes and make me feel like you think i'm 2 years old and incapable of taking care of myself!!!

This is not my usual sort of post but if any of y'all out there sew with long pile faux fur and have scraps you don't want, I'd be down to trade you a plushie for them or something? (or buy them!) I make my halloween fluffball monsters out of faux fur scraps, and I use the shape of the scrap to determine the shape of the finished monster, but I'm almost out of scraps I mean I do have some non-scrap long pile faux fur, but not much and not many colors, because I don't usually like using it. It's more fun to make monsters with the scraps lol

Reddit keeps recommending me the "biohackers" sub and I keep clicking on it because it's full of the most buck-wild ways to "optimize" your body that I've ever seen.
And on the one hand, I feel really bad for them, because it seems clear that a lot of them are terrified of being sick or disabled or old, and have convinced themselves that if they just follow an extremely stringent set of procedures they can ward off any deterioration of the body.
But on the other hand I just saw someone recommend a coffee enema to help with heavy metal and radiation poisoning and how the hell could I stay away from a sub offering that kind of advice

Due to the circumstances of this move, I am determined to be absolutely RUTHLESS in getting rid of things. I have already filled three trash bags and one Goodwill box, and I am going to need to start a second when I resume packing.
I’m a bit proud of myself, not gonna lie.

I shaved my head like a year ago cus i was so vain and like i had very beautiful curly hair but it was like a pain in the goddamn ass because i cared abt how it looked and wanted to only shower at certain times and structured my day around how my fucking hair was gonna look. Nd like yk everyone gave me shit when i first shaved it like ohh you look like caillou like people gave more of a fuck abt how i looked than I did but also i really enjoyed how it forced people to examine my face like i think theyd identify me by my hair cause it was bigger than me and collicky nd then theyre looking at my hooked boxer nose and my jawline and my cheekbones and noticing the scar on my face ... Ive been like trying to grow my hair back for a year now and I cant do it lol i love this look

I moved the catnip inside temporarily for 2 reasons. The first is because we have fleas ✨🥳✨ and learned that they don't like mint, and I didn't want to spray peppermint oil in my room because of the cat and essential oils being toxic to cats, so I just have the catnip plant in here to hopefully help. We also have diatomaceous earth scattered around (I was choking on it yesterday) and Rookie is now wearing a flea collar. Apartment pest services were also already scheduled for July 26th, so we should be clear of fleas by the time we move out in August. I'm not looking forward to packing (I hate moving), but thankfully unlike my parents homes, we've kept this place pretty clean and it's fairly small so cleaning every room when we go should be pretty easy. The non-packing chore I'm looking forward to the least is changing the shower head back to the landlord's, because it was hard enough to get the old one off and now the current one is just smooth. even if I use the pipe wrench, it's going to be hard to get enough friction to remove it . I don't know how I got it on, to be honest. At least I still have Teflon tape so I won't have to buy any new supplies.
The second reason is to give it a break from the heat since as you can see it's withering a little bit. I might have left it unwatered for a day longer than I should have by accident. I really, really want to put my plants in the ground where I can water them daily and they can freely put down roots :( darn this apartment life.
It will go back outside after a few days of acting as a flea repellent and monitoring for plant health.
The lavender, wand flower, basil, and wildflowers are all dead. The thyme is basically dead but I keep watering it because there are some green sprouts somehow hanging on. Leaving just the cacti, which are doing just fine in the heat. There's also a couple stray sunflowers still kicking in the wildflower box, I'm still watering them too.

"I wish I was that rose..."
Eyyy 👀 More stories! With Farmer Myra (@seharuuchan) and Hestia (@g0atmama). Isaac here too! This was dedicated to the old Vine. Hehe...
The Stardew Valley Floral exhibitionl was perhaps one of Lewis's best ideas for the new holiday, as not only local farmers, but all Valley residents who know how to care for flowers and plants can show off the fruits of their labors in floristry. Not to mention the large flow of tourists, which will definitely raise the image of Pelican Town and the major itself in the eyes of the whole Republic. So the idea appealed to everyone without exception (even Sam, with his allergy to pollen).
The time for the event was chosen immediately - early autumn days, when the flowers of the cold season were just beginning to bloom, but everything was still decorated with summer colors.
And so - the day came. People from big cities and distant lands hurried to get off the bus to be the first to see the exhibition stands, the sweetest aromas of exotic plants (and delicious food, special thanks to Gus) wafted in the air, and the variety and splendor of flowers in pots and vases amazed even the most experienced florists. The valley was rich in the gifts of nature, and many would not miss the opportunity to see it all.
Even though for Isaac attending the flower festival was something akin to a vacation or a day off, the adventurer still couldn't understand why Camilla had sent him here as support and a gesture of goodwill from the Castle Village. He could understand the meaning of his presence at Spirit's Eve, after all Isaac was one of the main monster catchers for the event, but why flowers?
Alas, the thoughts of one of the most talented witches in the entire republic were unfathomable to anyone, so Isaac had no choice but to accept his fate and think about what he might do at the festival today. Not that he didn't like the flowers, but the crowd, the incessant noise, and the intoxicating scent of pollen were weighing heavily on his mind. So Isaac thought of nothing better than to walk slowly toward the smoke from the grills where Gus was preparing his famous barbecue, eager to savor the local roast meats and ales.
There were a lot of stands with floral displays and other various goods for sale, each of the exhibitors had done their best, but the most beautiful and unusual, in Isaac's opinion, were the three stands lined up in a row, with three of the most famous and chaotic farmers in Stardew Valley behind them. Farmers who were also his colleagues in his work as an adventurer, two of whom he was more or less on friendly terms with, but the third farmer.... It was a little more complicated than that.
Julian, if the scarred adventurer's memory served him correctly, was more interested in mountain flowers, so it was not surprising that his booth was overflowing with various displays of lavender, chamomile, heather, geraniums, and others flowers. There were also many vials of essential oils and handmade soaps, which the young man with heterochromia made himself. Isaac remembered this at least because he had delivered those same oils to their local healer in Castle Village when Julian had generously given oils to them out of the goodness of his heart.
Hestia's exhibition stand was probably the most unusual among the others. Her whole exposition could be described in one word - lilacs. Many, many lilacs. There were branches of this fragrant plant sticking out almost everywhere. But all over the violet-haired girl's table were small crystals of various shapes and cuts, and inside them were elegant little flowers of the same lilacs. There were also crystals with camellia, forget-me-nots, violets and gypsophila. Near the stand - a real full house: children are tugging at the sleeve of their parents, asking to buy them beautiful crystal key chains with flowers, and young couples choose a romantic gift for each other, with a rather tender and a little clichéd phrase: "my love for you will end only when this flower fades". Hestia was just glad that with her crystal magic she was able to make a lot of people happy while earning herself money to buy expensive seeds.
Some might call Myra's stand old-fashioned, but the classic floral displays that the girl had created with love and care would make even the most picky person gasp with delight. After all, it was a flower festival, and she had plenty of flowers. As if taken directly from a Renaissance painting, beautiful bouquets of chrysanthemums and gladiolus adorned glass vases, and potted orchids stood nearby. But Myra's favorite was the rose, the queen of all flowers. The girl herself was almost invisible behind the huge bouquets and pots, which contained many kinds of roses, shades of soft pink, yellow, scarlet to burgundy, purple....
Isaac himself didn't notice as he slowed his step as he passed Myra's booth. The girl had her back turned to the man, completely engrossed in picking another bouquet of ruby-red roses. A second - and the adventurer's footsteps stopped altogether...
"Didn't think I'd see you here," Julian's welcoming voice brought Isaac back from his reverie to reality, and made Myra and Hestia turn their attention away from their business and toward their guest. "How are you?"
In his usual fashion, Isaac only snorted quietly and bowed his head slightly in greeting. Julian nodded to the taciturn adventurer in return.
"Hey, Isaac," Hestia finally finished with the last buyer of her crystals and waved a hand to Isaac.
Myra, noticing the familiar adventurer, smiled widely, causing the cloaked man to look away slightly. The long-haired girl stepped out of her booth as lush bouquets of roses blocked her view.
"We're glad you were able to come to our festival. Everyone did such a great job with the floral arrangements," still holding the bouquet of red roses, Myra couldn't help but inhale the fragrant scent of the flowerbud.
"I wish I was that rose..." The realization that Isaac had said those words out loud made him abruptly sober up from all those spicy floral scents and panic beyond belief.
"What?..." Myra asked.
"I said you're all gross!" If there's an 'idiot of the year' nomination in the world, Isaac would definitely be the winner. The astonished looks of three farmers were fixed on Isaac, which made the man blush even more furiously. With a flick of his hand, he pulled the hood of his brown cloak over his head and quickly walked away toward the grill. He didn't care about the meat anymore, Isaac was going to drink ale first, and the stronger the better.

Fandango for the asks :3
ohhh thank you!!! <33 i have totally not been putting way too much thought into this (caveat i am Not a mixologist)
Fandango -  If YOU had to mix a phantasy mocktail (or cocktail, go wild), what would you make? @phanniemasquerade
okay so FLAVOUR-wise, i'd want to combine dan's penchant for bitter things with phil's sweet tooth.
starting from the bottom up, i'd do a honey mix with [as local as i can get] raspberry jam, ooh maybe saskatoon berry too if it's in season. the density of the honey would hopefully keep it as a bottom layer, and at least a raspberry mix would get a red color; combining this with another layer (preferably green - can be flavored or not. matcha could be a decent candidate but a) idk if it would mix well with honey and b) whether it would fuck up the taste) would give you a colored base. i'd put some citrus peel (orange, most likely, maybe lemon) so that it settles in the honey as well and gives a good mix of sweet and bitter.
on the side (in a shaker?), i'd do the main mix of pinot gin (because i'm biased), tonic water (more to the Bitter), and flavourless black dye, poured down the side of the glass so i (hopefully) don't disturb the honey layer(s). the only thing i'm layering on top to Complete the look (other than Maybe one of those gay lil cocktail umbrellas) is edible multicolored glitter, enough that it's relatively noticable against the black.
yeah i'm gonna be That Bitch and call it the "hits different"

Can birds use essential oils without risk?
Essential oils are getting more and more popular as a means of treating certain medical issues and relieving anxiety. These strong oils have long been used in aromatherapy and are occasionally seen as natural alternatives to conventional medicine. People are also utilizing them more and more in their houses for a range of purposes; however, is it safe to expose the birds you love to these oils? It all depends on the oils they use, the way you use them, and, above all, what your veterinarian has to say. The simple answer is probably not likely yes or no. Read More...
