Forest Hills Bootleg Society

Summary
Anime movies produced by Studio Ghibli are all the rage, especially when you’ve gotten them from some random guy outside of a gas station. However, these aren’t your average Studio Ghibli movies. In fact, they aren’t that at all! Unknowingly Brooke, Kelly, Maggie, and Melissa just purchased a bootlegged copy of the anime Super Love XL - a highly risque robot anime that’s unfit for their highly conservative community in Forest Hills, California. This would be bad
if it meant not making a profit off the local boys who are willing to pay premium prices for it. One thing leads to another and suddenly things get complicated: new relationships, new demand, and new drama.
Justification
This book was chosen because it fulfills the category “Graphic Novel or Manga Volume.” This graphic novel was first published in 2022, and although it has not received any awards, it has received glowing reviews from multiple literary review publications. It has been featured on Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and on Publishers Weekly, which provided it with a starred review. In addition, the duo of writers and illustrators are both highly esteemed and have been recognized for their talents. Dave Baker was nominated for the Eisner Award for his writing and illustration. Nicole Goux does not have this distinction, though she does share with Dave her participation in big comic publishers like DC Comics. Additionally, Forest Hills Bootleg Society is a coming-of-age story that discusses societal issues such as racism and homophobia, which are especially prevalent in society today amongst the political backdrop in the United States with which young adult readers are existing.
Evaluation
For this review, I will be evaluating illustrations, character, and design and layout.
Illustrations
Forest Hills Bootleg Society is a graphic novel for young adults that takes the art styles of other popular graphic novels and mushes them all into one! With illustrations similar to that of Nimona and Lumberjanes, and the monochromatic coloring as Heartstopper and This One Summer, you roll it up and create one incredible graphic novel! The lineart is simple and fluid, which is forgiving to character proportions and body language. The style of character features is also reminiscent of anime, which is one of the primary focuses of this graphic novel. The color scheme of this monochromatic artwork contains a a pale chartreuse, a muted teal, white, and black. The use of the pale chartreuse creates a sense of nostalgia and reminds the reader of glaring fluorescent lights, while the muted teal communicates a air of moodiness and angst.
Character
Brooke, Kelly, Maggie, and Melissa are all highly believable characters that are distinct from one another in all of the best ways. Throughout the book the reader is provided with character introductions through a showering of word balloons that shout-out character names and the character’s defining traits (i.e. “MAGGIE HILCOT” “LOVES PLAYING BY THE RULES”). When reading a typical prose novel, we are either told these character traits directly by the narrator (i.e “I am right-handed”) or observe them naturally through character actions (i.e. “I threw the ball with my right hand.”). There are also in-depth explanations of defining traits stationed throughout the book that provide more insight into why a character is acting a certain way, which provides context but takes away from a reader’s natural instinct to draw conclusions through assumptions. It should also be noted that these characters are believable through the use of emotion, dialogue, personal decisions, and clothing that is worn.
Design and Layout
Forest Hills Bootleg Society takes an interesting approach at storytelling. It incorporates word balloons to include information about a character and why a place is of interest. These are also used for dialogue. As a result of this device being used for multiple things, it can be difficult to see when a character is speaking and when they are not, since the same font is also used in both contexts. However, the distinction between dialogue and infodumping can be seen in the shape of the word balloon’s tail: curved tails are for dialogue and straight tails are for information.

Larger iPad Pro vs Current Models: A Comparison
Tumblr media
A supersized version of the iPad Pro with a display of 14.1 inches has been persistently pushed as part of the rumor mill, and there was a possibility that Apple will really launch this version of the tablet. However, Apple did not introduce this version of the iPad Pro. The rumor mill has speculated on several occasions about the possibility of Apple developing a larger iPad Pro model. However, you cannot buy this version of the iPad Pro just yet since it has not been released to the public. Unfortunately, the corporation has given up on its primary objective, which was to concentrate on the OLED variants, which were scheduled to become available the year after the next.
Apple iPad Pro 14.1-Inch 2023
There has been no official announcement made about the production of a larger iPad Pro; nevertheless, more established reports suggest that the business was testing prototypes with a more competent SoC. This is despite the fact that there has been no official statement made regarding the creation of a larger iPad Pro.
According to a story that was published in Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s ‘Power On’ newsletter, an unveiling was planned to take place this year; however, the firm finally opted not to go through with it. The model of the iPad Pro that is now available for purchase has a screen that is 12.9 inches in size and uses the mini-LED display technology.
This model is also the device that is currently being offered. According to AppleInsider, the company, which has its headquarters in the state of California, has opted to concentrate the majority of its efforts on enhancing the performance of the 13-inch model. This update is expected to be launched in 2019, and it will allegedly contain enhancements to both the OLED and M3 as well as support for a revised Magic Keyboard that will have an aluminum frame and a bigger touchpad. It is predicted that this upgrade will be available for purchase via Apple’s online store.
Regrettably, Gurman has not offered any comments on the future of the 14.1-inch iPad Pro, which indicates that even if it is in the process of being constructed, the Bloomberg reporter has not provided an update on the status of the device.
On the other hand, previous reports and rumors imply that work on the expansion to a larger screen is being carried out in a conscientious way. For example, one urban legend states that the larger iPad Pro would have a size advantage owing to the more screen real estate that it would have. This would allow for a better viewing experience. According to reports, it would also have the ability to concurrently connect two high-resolution monitors and would operate using a modified version of the operating system (iOS) found on the iPad.
According to a separate tale, Apple was said to be testing the bigger tablet with the M3 Pro rather than the standard M3, with the latter most likely being saved for the OLED model with a 13-inch display. The rumor was based on the fact that Apple was rumored to be testing the larger tablet with the M3 Pro. The rumor that Apple was trying out the larger tablet with the M3 Pro served as the basis for this hypothesis.
A version of the iPad Pro that has the M3 Pro would make perfect sense to add since Apple would need to offer the bigger iPad Pro with a considerable upgrade in its specs in order for buyers to feel secure buying it. We will continue to keep our readers up to date on this issue as well as any upcoming updates about other specs, despite the fact that there is no information on the display technology that Apple wants to deploy for this model. This is the case even though there is no information available.

The outfit for today was picked with care and consideration. Hot, as always- you had forgotten your roots, your hoodie and sweats lay hidden in the bottom of your drawer never to be worn on stream again. You’ve changed. Clout really does that to people. Some viewers, naturally, find your hotness near insulting: how dare you rub your beauty in their faces, and so unabashedly, too?! If only you had a twinge of self-awareness, perhaps you would tone it down. But you don’t, and whether that’s by choice or not is the mystery the whole internet tries to solve (ARMY has been working diligently, and you admire their effort, though in the end their tireless labor brings no tangible results).
You went from hot to hotter. In all truth, the fires eating away at California can be blamed on you. You carry this burden in stride, in your platform overpriced shoes some girl scammed you on Depop with, in your fishnets, in your skirt, in your corset, in your rings and necklaces and chains. You woke up today and chose violence. Decided your existence will be a plague to the rest of the populace, and meant it (that, maybe, you took inspiration from a certain faceless Youtuber that so happens to be your boyfriend or whatever). You feel powerful. Like you could step on the world and the world would let you. You decide that it’s the way it should always be.
The smile on your lips informs of nothing good to your quaint, small audience of 40k. You change the lighting in your room from the soft cherry blossom pink to menacing violet. As fitting for a villain.
Perhaps California’s hellish sun has finally purged you of your bubbly, docile nature (arguably, you had never possessed it to begin with); perhaps it’s the forth mimosa you’re mixing as people slowly trickle into the lobby. Who knows?! Not you, definitely. What do all of those boring dead white European philosophers say? Embrace the unknown? Cheers, you’ll drink to that.
In stark contrast to your appearance, your room is a fucking mess. A war-zone of epic anime scale. Everything is scattered, well, everywhere. A perfect representation on what’s going on in your mind, always. You don’t like how people focus on your surroundings-- you’re the main attraction, hello? Are you not enough to sustain them? Must they beg for more?! Totally ungrateful. You shake your head in disappointment, as if a mother scolding her children.
noooooo! mom pls forgive me i will never ask abt anything ever again T_T
yall looking at the room? lol couldnt be me
feels like im five and my mum just told me i cant eat a pretty rock i found on the pavement:(
You can’t contain your sly grin. Eyes twinkle with a purplish hue, appearing all the more menacing. You tricked them once again, oh how absolutely evil of you. In your blind delight you accidentally spill champagne on your lap.
“-Oop, fuck.” You snort.
why does she sound like goofy
The scandalous drunk Among Us stream is about to start. You had been eerily silent through the greetings, and those that chose to approach you were met with a cold shoulder and minimal replies. All on purpose, of course. You wish to plant a seed of unease within them, and so far, it’s working. There are questions unanswered, jokes unsaid, Quackity unteased. It breaks your heart, but it must be done. You look into the camera, all vulnerable and devout, as if to say: I’m doing this for you, all for you.

“Hey, guys,” Corpse’s voices rings in your headphones, and not a blink later his astronaut appears in the lobby in a cloud of smoke, “Hi, Y/n.”
More sharp, excited hellos follow after. You merely hum, though give no further reply. As Corpse strays to your side, Charlie steps in in front of him, “BDA access only. You have a permit, bitch?”
“Y/n is being quiet-she’s being quiet, guys!” Quackity helpfully informs, as if the rest failed to notice your cryptic silence, “Don’t be sad Corpse, man, Corpse don’t be-she didn’t say shit to me either.”
“Y/n has decided to not waste her breath on the SDS.” Charlie voices, “And you know what? I actually agree with her for once.”
“SD-what now?” Dream questions.
“The Small Dick Society.” Charlie explains, noting Dream’s whine of protest, “Oh no, don’t give me that shit, weren’t you bitching about not being invited and not belonging to exclusive clubs? Congratulations, you’re finally part of one.”
“Wait!” Quackity interjects, “Am I part of it too?”
“Guess, Sherlock.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Corpse says. You nod to your audience, like he just spoke the God honest truth, and follow in his example. Your tentative sip unexpectedly turns into a greedy gulp, but you’re not complaining. The only slightly coherent thought that rings in your mind is drink tasty.
“Ignore them,” Rae chimes, “Y/n’s probably plotting something and using Charlie as a cover up.”
“I’d never.” The words slip past your lips before you can stop them.
“Well you sure are very quick to deny it.” You can hear her smirking, can hear the proud lilt in her voice, like she caught onto your silly little scheme, like she has you all figured out. Your eyes narrow dangerously. The night behind your window pools dark, with far away city lights glimmering before they, too, seem to dim.
Your roommate is back on your shitlist. How her name was missed among the rest.
“I’m defending my honor.” You yelp, the playfulness back in your voice along with your sunny smile, “I can’t have my wifey slandering me online. At least do it in private, geez.”
If Rae’s such a good detective, you’ll give her a good chase. Perhaps you’ve been laying it on too thick. Made her too suspicious. She can’t out you yet--not when your plans are so grand, so fun. It would be a waste.
“Why weren’t you saying anything then?” Quackity questions.
“Do I need a reason not wanting to talk to you?” You shoot back. Your friends laugh and he tries to shriek something past their cackle. You lean back into your chair, the tension from Rae’s confrontation finally easing. You wink at the camera and bring a finger to your lips. The roaches swear to secrecy, elated by your wickedness. As appropriate, they spam devil emojis and various renditions of evil hohohos and hehehes. The apple truly does not fall far from the tree. You had raised them well. You raise your glass in solidarity. A few donations fall into your pocket, easily summed up as: make them suffer.
Muting the discord call, you give a single response, “Oh, I intend to.”
i hope this doesn’t awaken something in me
^already too late for me bro
As caught up in wreaking havoc among your viewers as you are, you miss Sykkuno’s entrance, though from what you can tell, Charlie gave a stern warning to back the fuck off to him, too. He’s playing into your plan so beautifully. Truly, you couldn’t do this without him. Back to stalking the chat you go.
Your eyes flicker to the game upon Bretman’s signature drawl and “Hi, daddy.”. You have no time to get offended at Corpse’s sweet “Hi, honey” back, because the next person to join the discord call and the lobby leaves you speechless. You knew, of course, you had been informed of the line-up, but still, you had never expected yourself to be so close to Jomes Chorles himself. You make a weird gesture with your hands, half wave half excited wiggle, as if you’re telling the audience to calm down, when, in fact, it is you that needs calming.
He goes saying his hello’s like doing a public service, name by name, before, lastly, uttering, “Hi, Miss Y/n. Loooove the vids.”
He’s a roach in disguise, who could’ve known?! Your audience is so diverse and unexpected, gosh, you’d shed a tear if the mascara wasn’t so expensive.
“Hi!” You reply with a grin, and it’s genuine this time, a glimmer of your old self, “Hi, I love your videos, too. It’s like, really cool to finally meet you.”
“Oh my God, you too!” Is his enthusiastic reply, “Okay, the energy in the studio today? Love it.”
“Is this all of us?” Quackity asks.
“Sadly.” James says with a note of disappointment.
“HEY!”
“Okay, guys!” Ash chimes, “Let’s do this! Proximity Among Us, round one, go go go!”

Luck does not shine upon you during the first round- you are stuck as Crew Mate, your life cut short by Bretman who had the audacity to bite your head off. You’re positive Ke$ha wrote her hit single Cannibal about him, and if she didn’t, she definitely had a That’s So Raven moment and predicted it. It’s also insanely suspicious as after you are eliminated he sticks real close to Corpse, feigning innocence (and this is a controversial opinion you do not endorse) better than even you. It wounds your pride, having been picked off so casually, so quickly, and now stuck a ghost you roam the halls of the dying spaceship, lost, confused, heartbroken.
Charlie runs past you, not once even glancing in your direction. “Brother...” You mutter sadly, “Do you not see me here? Do you not feel... the loss of your twin’s heartbeat...?" Damn, these mimosas really are making you emotional. You sniffle and take a sip to calm the storm within you. No rage, just sadness. You are still processing your own tragic demise.
Suddenly, a meeting is called. There’s a horrible red X on your astronaut. You are the only one dead so far, and of course the rest won’t vote out the fucker. How bitterly you sit! With your arms crossed over your chest and your glare sharp enough to cut through glass. Fuck the sad shit, now you’re just angry. At the very least, the second Impostor could’ve given you some company!
“I knew something felt off.” Charlie is first to speak.
“Who the fuck killed Y/n?” Corpse questions, and his voice ignites a whole discussion that lasts much too short. The others skip, having no suspect yet. It’s much too soon to start pointing fingers, but you still feel like they should have at least tried. Pouting, you fix yourself another drink.
“Stop drinking!?” You gasp, exasperated at your chats demands, “I’m dead! What else should I do, the tasks?! Nah, fuck that. I’m done. I’m out. Charlie better employ his fucking detective skills because if the Impostors win, I will literally quit the game--yes I will, no I’m not bullshitting, fucking watch me.”
Thankfully, Bretman was caught venting, and you didn’t have to end the stream prematurely. The second Impostor, your roommate (oh, the betrayal, Rae, how could you?!) was voted out due to Corpse’s suspicion. Victory to the Crew Mates! The game restarts and you find yourself back in the lobby.
“Miss Y/n,” Bretman says, “I am sooo sorry for killing you first, baby. It was just too easy. I couldn’t pass it up.”
Giggling, Quackity chimes, “Sister slaughtered.”
“Oh my God,” James groans, “shut up!”
“Yeah, Y/n.” Charlie speaks, and there’s an accusatory note in his calm voice, “Why the fuck did you allow yourself to be eliminated first? Real noob shit, I expected more of you.”
“HUH?!” You frown, “What’s with the victim blaming?! I literally was doing my task and Bretman snuck up on me. It’s not like I had a weapon to defend myself!”
“You have been avenged,” Corpse states, “and that’s all that matters.”
“Thank you, Corpse!” You say, “At least someone cares.”
“Hey, I helped, too!” Dream pipes up.
“No, you didn’t.” Corpse shoots him down, “I was the only one.”
“You were not--”
“Literally was. Isn’t that right, Sykkuno?”
“Uhhhh-” Sykkuno trails off, “Well, we-we all helped!” You can hear his shy smile, and you just know he’s bobbing his head up and down at this exact moment, “We all helped. Team work!”
“Team work!” The rest echo, save for yourself, Corpse, Charlie, and the two Impostors. Silence speaks more than a thousand words or whatever. You pray to any higher power willing to listen to finally assign you the role of the villain, the one you were born to do.
Sadly, higher powers must have either shitty customer service or are in need of hearing aids, and you almost scream in frustration when your astronaut appears along with the others, the bold CREW MATE title chipping away at your master plan.
âœŒă€€ ҉ ă€€âœŒă€€ ҉ ă€€âœŒă€€ ҉ ă€€âœŒă€€ ҉ ă€€âœŒă€€ ҉ ă€€âœŒ
“Hey, Y/n, hey! Hey, Y/n!” Rae finds you in Cafeteria, where you, metaphorically, are eating your feelings. Not that she needs to know, of course. She sounds chipper, a bit ditsy, and that must mean she’s sufficiently tipsy. You store that information for later, and forget about it as soon as you notice Dream and Sykkuno, like her very own personal bodyguards, trailing after her, “Wanna play a game?!”
“Is this Saw?” You inquire, somewhat lazy. You’d be lying if you said the alcohol wasn’t affecting you, it’s just instead of making you bubbly, it makes you mellow. This was supposed to be fun, you were supposed to terrorize everyone and laugh as they perished by your hand, yet here you are, wallowing in self-pity. The roaches start worrying. The donation jingle chimes.

Your fishnets have a point!
“Saw?--No, no, haa, no it’s a drinking game.” Dream sounds like he has had one too many rounds of this mysterious game, and naturally, you are intrigued.
“Where we drink!” Sykkuno clarifies. Right, well that explains everything! If you had any questions, you surely have none now.
“Okay, so, name a category, and you have to, like, say a word associated with it...Or something along those lines.” You hadn’t even agreed and Rae is explaining the rules already. She knows you too well. It’s both a blessing and a curse, “Can be anything! Okay, Y/n, Y/n, Y/n start!”
“Uhh--” If only your brain computed as fast as she spoke! “Song lyrics! Wait--who drinks?”
“You fail, you drink!” She hurries, “Choke me like you hate me but you love meeeeee. Syk, go, go go!”
“Uhm, ah, I don’t wanna feel like this, uh, fuck?” He laughs--it’s a raspy, embarrassed little sound, “I don’t...wanna look like this? Dream, now you!”
“Wait, we’re singing Corpse’s songs?”
“Any song!” You urge him quickly, “Hurry! Or drink!”
“She say I kill her cat like I'm Luka Magnotta--”
“Hey! That’s cheating! You can’t use my song!” Rae protest.
“That wasn’t in the rules!” He counters.
“Y/n! Time’s running out!” Sykkuno exclaims.
“Oh, uh, will-will the real Slim Shady please stand up!”

“Uhh, shit--fucking hell.” Dream laughs, and Rae practically screams at him to keep going, “Alright! Okay! I’m singing--uh, you’re so golden, na na na na?”
“I tell you what a woman loves most,” You chime gleefully, “it’s a man who can slap but can also stroke.”

“I steal a few breeeeaaaths from the woooorld for a minute--”
“Mitski?!” You question, eyes bulging, “Baby, who hurt you?”
Even if you can’t see her, you know she’s waving her arms around and shaking her head, “Not the point! Sykkuno!”
“Uh, I-I, uhm, I don’t--”
“Drinnnnk!” You all chorus.
“It was a good concert,” You say, “Syk, I’ll drink with you.”
“Thank you, Y/n. That’s very kind of you.” He says softly, with a smile lining his lips. You grin.
“Oh, fine. Everyone, bottoms up!” Rae decides, and no one protest. A moment of silence passes, then, “Well, GG, GG, let’s do some tasks?”
Your enthusiastic Ariana Grande-esque “yuh” is cut short by the second meeting of game two being called. The first one to go had been Ash, voted out during a bathroom break as a joke, and you still feel a bit bad about that. Now, you notice Charlie has been eliminated. A sense of righteousness fills you--while you mourn for your brother from another mother and father and family tree, you feel like this is divine punishment for slandering you before the start of this round. Karma. Nothing much is discussed, and the meeting ends shortly with everyone skipping.
You spend a good ten minutes wandering around with Dream, who’s mission appears to be convincing you to join his Minecraft server, and really, there was no need for him to try so hard. You failed to provide him with a concrete answer only because it would've been to humiliating to admit that you agreed instantly upon hearing the word Minecraft.
That’s when things get fucking weird. Another meeting is called whilst you’re in the middle of fixing lights, and once the board with the members appears you audibly gasp. There had been 8 living, breathing astronauts rushing around the map, and now only 4 remain. You, Corpse, James, and Alex.
“What the fuck--what the fuck?!” You screech alarmed, noting Dream being among the perished crew, “I was just with Dream fixing the lights, I was just with him, what the fuck--”
“Okay, no one panic.” James says, “Let’s figure this out. Okay? Okay. Who else is close to Electrical?”
“I’m at Nav.” Quackity says.
“I’m at Cafeteria, but Y/n--” Corpse starts, “kinda weird that Dream died when you were with him?”
“I didn’t fucking kill him, I swear to God, Corpse, why are you accusing me?”
“Don’t be so defensive.” He says smoothly, “I’m just pointing out the obvious. We all have a reason to be sus, no? Considering you were right with him.”
“...It is suspicious.” James agrees, and a part of you dies inside. You understand their hesitance to trust you, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating!
“Guys, I didn’t kill him, I swear. He invited me to play Minecraft, I wouldn’t do that to him, not after that!”
Corpse merely hums, and it brings no comfort what’s so ever. The situation is spiraling, and not in your favor. Trying to salvage your chances at freedom, you try again, “Wh-James, James, you called the meeting, right?”
“Yeah, I found Rae’s body near Medical.”
“So I couldn’t have killed her and Dream at the same time!” You latch onto that piece of information, hoping it will save you.
“You could’ve vented.” Corpse points out, “Plus, there’s no telling how old the body is.”
“Killing five fucking people? It’s the work of one person, or else the game would have already ended. As it stands, I am no way sober enough to think all of this out.”
A brief silence hangs in the air; your lungs constrict from tension, from spilling words so hotly. You grasp your glass, as if for emphasis, and take a shy sip. It taste sweet, a bit too sweet for your liking. Must be your nerves. You drink again to wash the taste out of your mouth, which, surprisingly, doesn’t work. You whine a little, stomping your feet like a child about to throw a temper tantrum.
“...I believe her.” Quackity says. You breathe out a sigh of relief.
“Alex, thank youuuuuu!” You gush, batting your lashes as if he could somehow see you and that would somehow portray your innocence, “I knew I liked you for a reason!”
He mutes his mic, his spill of words lost to your ears, but chat helpfully informs that he’s screaming because you don’t hate him.
y/n out here collecting men like pokemon cards
Now all that’s left is to convince the others. You start with the one you know will work, “Corpse,” You address him in your sweetest voice.
“Y/n,” James warns, “don’t you dare--”
“Baby, I didn’t kill anyone, I’m crew mate, you gotta believe me.”
“She's innocent.” Corpse declare, thoroughly convinced.
“Oh my fucking God, you fucking simp!” James laughs, “She’s obviously manipulating you!”
“No, no, she isn’t. She’s innocent, I agree with Quackity. Now, it’s either you or him.”
“Could be you for all we know!” Alex accuses.
“Guys, time’s running out.” You mutter fretfully, noting the seconds tick by from white to red.
“I’m voting Alex.” Corpse says.
“What?! Fucking traitor! Fine, I’m voting for you.” Alex hisses.
“Ugh, hate agreeing with Quackity, but I’m also voting Corpse. Sorry, hon, nothing personal.” James says. The VOTED icons pop up beside their characters and you panic, pressing your mouse idly but it’s too late, there wasn’t enough time, and you cry as Corpse is thrown into lava. The chat spams F, and it feels like salt on a fresh wound.
In a second you’re back in Cafeteria, shell-shocked and trembling, and Quackity cusses because the Impostor is still among you. His frustration doesn’t last long as you watch in horror as Jams Chortles, beauty guru supreme, murders the only other crew mate in cold blood and all you can do is gape and let his cheerful laughter fill your ears. The screen bleeds red, informing of Impostor victory, the second one being Ash. Looks like you voted her off for the right reason, but little difference did it make.
“Corpse!” You yell past the cacophony of voices, all in varying forms of excitement or anger, beelining for his in-game figure, “Corpse, I’m so sorry, I panicked, I tried pressing the button but I wasn’t quick enough--”
“It’s alright, baby. Don’t worry about it.” He’s so calming, so gentle, you might burst into tears again. What did you do to deserve him? You wish he was with you so you could smother him in a hug. Alas, all you can do now is say “I kith you, mwah!” and rush to the other side of the lobby, as if to hide from such a bold display of affection, even if it was a joke (it wasn’t).
yall say corpse simps for y/n but the reality is y/n simps for corpse harder
queen stop its embarrassing
bhaddies can simp!! i wouldnt but its her choice <3
More deliberations, commentary, and short breaks. Once everyone has returned, the countdown starts. You’re still reeling from the chaos of emotions, the five stages of grief you experienced in 1 second upon Corpse’s unjust demise, that it takes you a moment, a single heartbeat to realize what you’re seeing on screen.
The letters IMPOSTOR hang above your astronaut, with Dream standing just behind you as your newly appointed partner in crime. And suddenly, all the sadness and the tenderness and sympathy vanish with a curt exhale. You slowly turn your head to the chat, muting the Discord call, your soft chuckle of disbelief turning into a full blown laugh.
it’s happening!!!!
omg omg omg omg
VILLAIN ARC VILLAIN ARC VILLAIN ARC
You slap your palm over your lips, trying to contain your wicked smile, to tone down your broken giggles, “N-No, I can’t laugh yet,” shaking your head softly, you look into the camera, “they’re all going to die.”
pack it up light yagami
this has awoken something in me.

The crew mates go their own ways, rushing to do their tasks like the diligent little workers they are. How adorable. Their grim fate is still miles away from them. The shit you’ll pull will be for the history books. Much like your outfit, which you picked keeping in mind your newfound thirst for blood, you had devised your plan of action with care and consideration. You had been mulling it over all day, drawing on paper like the absolute madwoman you are; hell, you even made sticky notes on who to go for first and what to say. Sure, being moderately drunk hinders your memory slightly (an understatement of the century), but you got a feel for what you’re going to do. It’s nothing short of evil.
Dream and you don’t exchange words, you merely nod at him-- which he, of course, can’t see-- but your criminal bond enables telepathic communication. You can hear his thoughts, ones that strangely sound like drink drink, drink drink. And really, who are you to refuse such an enticing offer?! As he fucks off to stalk his victims, or play pretend, you take a sip. The cocktail is still sweet, but this time it’s not the icky sweet you had tasted prior. You glance at your sticky notes, ones the roaches can’t see, and nearly spill your drink for the second time today as you jerk.
“Fuck!” You exclaim, shoving your headphones off and spinning in your chair. You hastily stand up, wobble -- the world is pleasantly funny right about now -- and giggle. Stepping past the mountains of abandoned clothes and pillows and blankets and anime plushies, you maneuver your way to your bedside table and yank it open, nearly taking out the whole drawer with you. In the mess of old diaries and bad drawings, pencils, jewelry, and stickers, you fish out something you should not be wielding in your inebriated state.
It’s a knife.
In midst of teenage angst you had ordered it off of Amazon with your mom’s credit card, all the while whining that it’s not a phase, mom, and it’s what all of my cool kid friends with fried hair have, and don’t you want me to fit in, don’t you want your daughter to be happy?! You think it’s about that time, the time of too much uneven eyeliner and black eye shadow, that she took to calling you little raccoon. Trash rabbit was your personal favorite, but she used it sparingly. When you presented your Macy’s outfit, holding up a fucking butterfly knife, to your dad, asking if it was a look, he glanced up from some boring business magazine all boring business dads read and said, with a bright smile might you add, “It’s a something!”.
Oh, how it gleams in the lilac light. You used to do tricks with it, back in eight grade maybe, and--what the fuck? Why did you parents allow you to buy it in the first place? Well, because you’re the only child, the only one important, of course they got it for you and clapped enthusiastically at your performances, because why wouldn’t they? The whining they’d face otherwise would’ve been harder to endure than a whole dance number to Panic! At The Disco’s greatest hits. Broadway looked so fucking shabby in comparison. Your mom said so, so it must be true.
Stumbling back to your extremely confused viewers, you take your seat, feeling a bit more grounded now that you’re not standing on your platform shoes anymore. Putting on your headphones, you grin at the chat that starts swimming, and not from too much drinking either. You do a quick flick of your wrist, one that thankfully doesn’t end in injury, and the sharp tip of the exposed knife points upwards, glimmering. It’s a rainbow colored one, because one, it’s pretty, and two, you weren’t hardcore enough for the jet-black or straight up military ones the other emo kids had. Cute and dangerous, just like you.
So you just sit there, holding it up, looking somewhat sly as the roaches capture this momentous moment with screen-caps. Someone definitely clipped you trudging past the obstacle course to obtain a weapon of mass destruction. You must be already trending on Twitter, though you can’t exactly log on and confirm your suspicions. You just feel like you might be, like you should be, because your audience wouldn’t let this slide. Thankfully, your friends don’t have time to check social media, or you’d be outed in an instant.
“Y/n?” Your roommates voice booms from your headphones, and you perk up with a stupid realization that you completely forgot about Among Us. Stuck at the start, at the lobby where Dream had left you, you see her astronaut waddling to you, “What are you doing here? Wait--Have you not moved from the beginning?” She can barely finish the sentence without giggling.
You grin, “I was looking for something.”
Your voice is soft, too calm for your usual frantic spill. You gently set the knife down, hand coming to rest on your mouse, fingers idly, slowly, bouncing on the buttons.
“...What were you looking for?” She’s none the wiser, the numerous drinks consumed tonight numbing her sharp mind. She would have noticed. Your eerie composure would’ve given it away in a heartbeat, or at least hinted at something being objectively wrong. But she sounds curious. Poor girl, hasn’t she heard? Curiosity killed the cat.
“A knife.”
“A knife?!” There’s something about her tone that implies a mental clicking, the puzzle pieces falling together, “You have a knife?!”
“Yes.”
“No!”
You think it would only be appropriate that the random sequence of killing animations renders the backstabbing one. You grin, biting your lower lip with a quiet snicker.
i love women
if evil bad...why seggy?
You take your time leaving her there -- in true serial-killer-to-be fashion, you stick around for a bit longer, admiring your handiwork, or more like the chat singing your praises. You joined today with the intent of making an interesting stream. You have no doubt in your mind that now it will be legendary.
You move down the hallway, and you let your imagination wander: you can almost feel the stuffy air of your helmet, can almost hear your loud footsteps echoing in all this hush, can almost see your reflection in the spotless tile floor. It’s not long before your second victim makes an appearance, running circles in Cafeteria. You hear his voice first before you see him, recognizing Alex by his unhinged screech of “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s goooo!”
“And what’s got you so excited?” How cool and collected you are, gosh, you barely contain the quiver of excitement that threatens to slip out.
“Y/n!” He exclaims, rushing to your side like a lost puppy--he’s really making this easy for you, he’s not even trying, “You just missed--Oh my fucking God, you just missed James, he-he called me tall, he called me fucking tall! Let’s go, let’s gooooo!”
“Well, you are tall, aren’t you?” You chime sweetly, almost as sweet as the drink that lingers on the tip of your tongue, “Real 6â€Č3 energy, no?”
“Yes, yes, exactly! You get it, you fucking get it--” Once again, his mic goes mute, and you glance at the chat for help.
hard to transcribe what hes saying but hes taking shots and yelling that he loves you good job mom
hey, queen! girl, you have done it again, constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly
mom plz dont kill alex hes too cute hes all uwu rn
Oh, how you’re about to break his poor little heart. If you had any good left in you, you’d spare him. You don’t, and you’re not taking requests at the moment, so all you do is smile at your chat and they know. They just do. Hive-mind shit, you’re all two-faced little fuckers.
You giggle, and it sounds a tad fake, “You’re so weird, Alex,” You start, and he’s back in the call, a sound of confusion echoing in your ears, “but I get it, you know. You’re weird. You’re a weirdo. You don’t fit it, and you don’t want to fit in. I mean, really, has anyone even seen you without your stupid hat?”
“...Do--” He sputters, bellowing a laugh, “Do you have that whole fucking monologue memorized?!”
“Is it because you’re bald?”
“I’m not fucking bald!” His giddiness is quickly replaced by anger.
You hum, pretend to think, lastly barking a “Liar.” before you kill him. His scream is cut off, leaving only deafening silence at it’s wake. Unlike with Rae, you don’t stick around. You didn’t appreciate how little he enjoyed your recital.
You run into James near Navigation, most likely on his way to Cafeteria. He ends his song mid-note, and you breathe a sigh of relief, “Finally! Someone! I’ve been looking all over, where the hell is everyone?” You question, blocking his way, lest he accidentally stumbles onto the crime scene and easily pins it on you. You’re not done yet.
“Honestly? No clue. I’m searching for them myself, like, everyone’s scattered. I hope no one died.”
You smile. You tried not to, but you can’t contain it, “Me, too.” You echo the sentiment, urging him to join you, and he does. Too trusting. Everyone in this game is too fucking trusting. You lead him back to Nav, feigning that you have a task here. As you pretend to move the spaceship, you can’t help but ask, “Hey, James?”
“Yeah?”
“What’s your favorite scary movie?”
A beat of silence passes, “Oh no, fuck that, I don’t like this at all.” He states, about to spin on his heel and bolt like he should do, but you’re quicker-- killer instincts and all-- and he’s dead before he makes it out the doorway.
“See, after your No More Lies video, I figured you’d only tell the truth.” Yes, this is the part of the anime where the villain monologues, only the hero in this case is an astronaut cut in half, and not exactly alive to listen to you. You hope James’ ghost sticks around, “Case in point, why the fuck did you tell Quackity he’s tall?” You eye the chat, which’s mostly spamming W and comparing you to Ryo from Devilman Crybaby. “Such a shame...” You murmur, pressing the REPORT button.
“What?! How are so many people dead?!” Ash gasps, her kind voice tinted with fear and confusion. Your three kills, like military stars on an uniform of a distinguished officer, are displayed on the board. Dream appears to be slacking, having yet to take a life.
“Someone’s been real fucking busy.” Charlie observes. It’s true, you have been.
“I found James in Nav, but holy shit--” You begin, exasperated, “--what the fuck, guys, how did we miss this shit? Where is everyone?”
“I’m at Electrical.” Corpse voices.
“And I’m with Corpse.” One sentence is all it takes to figure out your next target: Bretman. Revenge for being killed first in the first goddamn round, and for spending so much time with your boyfriend.
Eep!!! Boyfriend boyfriend boyfriend!!! The word even makes you forget your thirst for blood, that’s how whipped you are. Sadly, it’s time to return to reality, to this grave situation.
“And what have the two of you been conspiring?” You keep your tone level, but that alone is enough to set everyone off. The unease you had planted within them before the game started is starting to bloom. However, if they suspect you, they don’t speak up, not yet.
“Fishnets, mostly.” Corpse says.
only partly a lie he was mostly talking abt u queen <3
corpse simping for y/n is the sweetest thing ever
the times corpse used y/ns name when talking abt y/n: 1. the times he used baby or my baby: infinite
“I’m wearing them right nyoooow.” Bretman drawls.
You hum, “What a coincidence. I am, too.”
“Wait--For real?” That seems to catch Corpse’s attention, because of course it does, you picked them with him in mind, after all.
“No peeping.” You tsk, obviously referring to his tendency to hop onto your stream unprompted. Whether he actually listens to your demands is beyond you, “Peeping means cheating.”
“For the love of fuck all, can we get back to the three dead bodies, please? Because I’m about to have a second coming of Christ moment and taste my consumed, digested beer for the second time.” Charlie interjects.
“I mean, anyone have any ideas who’d do this?” Dream takes hold of the conversation. Quiet, disappointed nos greet him. They have nothing to go on, no clues, not even a subliminal message. With everyone scattered, there is no way of locating the actual bodies and drawing a long red trail leading back to you.
You’re too good at lying, and Dream is too good of a publicist. People tend to trust his judgement, which is his main asset (besides his calm demeanor of course). When the Among Us gods chose you as Impostor, they made sure you had every advantage.
“Who-Who do you think it is, Dream?” Ash questions, “I trust you. I do. Just know that.”
“No fucking clue.”
“Y/n?” She tries again.
“Same. I’m a bit worried, though.”
“Let’s, uhhh, let’s skip?” Sykkuno offers. The consensus is to start voting at six. Your new mission is to make sure you dwindle the numbers down drastically before that can happen. You have no qualms about sacrificing Dream in order to meet your goals, either. Absolutely cold blooded.
Back at Cafeteria, there are words exchanged about Quackity’s body just laying there, forgotten. Blame is shifted: how come we didn’t notice sooner? Where’s Rae? And you mindlessly go along with their mourning, not really paying attention. Dream leaves with Charlie and Sykkuno, Corpse requests you stay with him and you sprout fake apologies. Not his time yet. Us girls need to stick together!, you sing, following after Ashley and getting further and further away from him, going deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of the spaceship.
You find yourself in Security with her, her cute astronaut pressed to the cameras, watching the live feed, “Let’s lurk here, okay? Maybe we’ll see something.” If only she saw who was standing behind her.
“Who do you think is the Impostor?” You ask, standing in the doorway, “Or, more like, who are the Impostors?”
“Honestly?” She ends her word with a little sigh, “I think it might be Corpse and Bretman. I haven’t seen them at all this game.”
You smile, raising your brows, tilting your heard, and you sound so kind, like a dear old friend about to deliver a tender message, “...Have you seen me?”
“SHIT!”
Too late. In one smooth motion she joins the afterlife. You cut the lights, venting mindlessly till you spot Corpse and Bretman panicking in Weapons. Your existence is still a mystery to them.
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck--” Corpse mumbles, “Bretman, don’t you dare fucking kill me right now.”
“I’m not Impostor!”
“Okay, I’ll drink to that.”
They rush out of Weapons, most likely on their way to Electrical, and you trail after them like the Grim Reaper itself, biding your time till you can deliver the killing blow.
“Corpse?!” You call out, mild panic ringing in your voice, “Is that you?”
“Shit, Y/n? Where are you?” He questions. Crew vision is so sad, so small, how can he not see you standing almost right next to him? “Where’s Ash?”
“I dunno,” You say, “when the lights went out I ran. Please don’t kill me.”
“I’d never do that, baby.”
Too easy. They’re all too fucking easy. You bite your lower lip, trying to stop the laugh bubbling in your chest, to stop the lightheaded dizziness that overcomes you with a rush of excitement.
“Thanks, pretty boy.” You mutter, and it sounds a bit lower than you intended, a bit darker, something sinister lurking underneath cotton candy words. It instantly clicks in Bretman and he makes a noise, something like a whine, and you see him backing away, “I know I can always trust you.”
Whether Corpse notices the odd shift in tone, he doesn’t show it, “I like it when you call me that.” Is all he says, and you hear the smile in his voice, the appreciation. The trek to Electrical is all but forgotten. You slowly make your way to Bretman, “Where are you? Come here.”
“Just a minute,” You say cheerily, “I just need to kill Bret first.”
“Holy shit.”
“N-” Your victim’s sentence is cut off in a second, and you can’t contain your manic cackle this time, because the screen bleeds red, the words VICTORY splattered on it, depicting yours and Dream’s sneaky astronauts. You’re still laughing as the voices of your fallen friends ring in your ears.
“Y/n, what the fuck, you’re an actual monster.” Dream says, but there’s no actual weight behind his words, each syllable punctured with a laugh.
“I knew the second she asked me about my favorite scary movie that I’d get the chop.” James states.
“Wait, Y/n, did you kill everyone?” Corpse questions.
“She fucking did!” Dream answers for you, “I got Charlie and Sykkuno, and barely at that. What the fuck.”
“I’ve been waiting so fucking long for this.” You admit, giggling, raising you glass, “I toast to you, Dream. My perfect partner in crime.”
“I didn’t really do shit, but cheers.”
Quackity heaves a heavy sigh, “Y/n, Y/n, you don’t actually think I’m weird, right? Right?”
“No, she does.” James chimes.
“WHAT THE FUCK DID I EVER DO TO YOU, DUDE?!”
More commotion, more noise, and you just sit there, buzzed, snickering, reading the chat as the rest agree to play another round. You thank the people who donated that you had accidentally missed among the, you know, murder, reply to a few questions, bow dramatically to the many praises and invisible flowers you receive for such beautiful assassin work. When you look back at the screen, you throw your head back with a maniacal laugh.
Impostor again, only this time it’s with Charlie. Family bonds are often restored when united under a common goal. You’re so happy. So happy. You weren’t done terrorizing your friends yet.

How About Lighter Pixel 6
Google officially unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro this month, after teasing the series earlier this year. According to reports, the California-based tech giant is working on a more cheap version of the smartphone that will be part of the new Pixel 6 series.
Leaked Pixel 6a renders earlier this week revealed that the Pixel 6a will have the same look as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This suggests that the Pixel 6a will have the same camera band that runs across the back of the device and contains the camera lenses, much to the delight of enthusiasts.
Specifications
The SONY IMX363 sensor, which has been used in all Google Pixel devices from the Pixel 3 through the Pixel 5a, is rumored to be used in the Pixel 6A. The Samsung GN1 sensor, which has a resolution of 50 megapixels, has been used in the current Google Pixel 6 series. Because the GN1 is larger than the IMX363, it captures more light.
In addition, the front of the phone has an 8MP IMX355 sensor for selfies and video calls. The smartphone will almost certainly come with a large 4800 mAh battery. In terms of size, the Pixel 6a is expected to be smaller than the Pixel 6, measuring 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.7mm.
According to the Pixel 6a renders, the phone would have a 6.2-inch flat AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 pixel FHD+ resolution. It's also expected to have a hole-punch cutout in the center, as well as a fingerprint sensor built in the display.
On the sides and bottom, the smartphone is said to have a USB Type-C port, two mics, speaker grill, volume rocker, SIM card slot, and power key. Internal storage on the smartphone will be 128 GB.
The renders also use a two-tone color scheme. The volume and power buttons are located on the right edge. The SIM card slot is located on the left edge of the device. A USB Type-C port, two speaker grilles, and a microphone are also included on the bottom. Antenna cutouts can be seen on all four edges, indicating that the phone will be enclosed in a metal frame.
Tensor Chipset
According to the newest report, the Google Pixel 6a smartphone would most likely be powered by Google's Tensor GS101 processor. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, as you may recall, share the same chipset. With this move, it's safe to presume that some of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro's capabilities, such as Magic Eraser and Google Assistant voice typing, will make their way to the Pixel 6a.
The Pixel 6a was previously reported to be powered by Qualcomm's Tensor Lite or Snapdragon SoC.
Google has guaranteed up to five years of software updates for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which are made possible by domestic chips.
Tumblr media
The Pixel 6a will be driven by the same Tensor GS101 chipset as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which means it will include all of the capabilities available only on the Tensor-powered Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, such as on-device Live Translation, Google Assistant voice typing, and more.
By extension, it should receive any additional Tensor phone-specific advances in future Android versions. Android 12 OS is expected to arrive pre-installed on the Pixel 6a.
The Google Pixel 5a was dispatched on seventeenth August this year. Other than that, the Pixel 4a likewise showed up in the long stretch of August. Remembering the past dispatch timetables, we can expect the Pixel 6a to show up during a similar time one year from now.
Right now, there's no data about the accessibility of this gadget in India. Google dispatched Pixel 5a just in the US and Japan. Notwithstanding, it could almost certainly dispatch in India same as Pixel 3a and Pixel 4a - LOL.
The official pricing and availability details of the Google Pixel 6a will be revealed at the time of the launch early next year. However, we expect it to be priced lower than the Pixel 6, which starts at $599 (approx. Rs. 45,000) in the US. So it's actually a great move and at the same time can't assure the built quality of the phone. Tha chances of getting this phone to all countries in the world is high, so there will be so many hands on videos and all. And let's see is it worth or not. We can't identify a great change in the design but still there are lot going on like bezel less screes with smaller camera visor. I'm really looking towards this phone. If this one outperforms the phones of the same price range, market of this phone is going to rock. And this is - Edwin K Jayesh.

Exhibition Proposals: the Basics (in progress)
Who is involved? Describe your intended work
Eleanor DĂaz Ritson -
I will make large, water-based oil paintings on suspended, ‘patchwork’ cotton duck canvas. Painted tapestries (2 artworks: 98.4 x 120 cm each).  I use a non-traditional oil painting style, influenced by raw material, charcoal drawings , woodcuts, and other traditionally water-based media. I am a figurative painter, representing my own image to communicate through gesture and expression.
I explore sociality as a land-space-place; the tangible body as land, and the intangible social culture as space–place. In this way, the outward expressions of force applied in social interactions are likened to the movements of energy that sculpt geological land-bodies. Through evolutionary ‘deep time’, our social interactions sculpt our bodies and minds too.
She exists in an interior landscape. A space where She is:
Dew dripped mountain crag. Squelching, slimy swamp. Beaten and carved cavity. Patient, molten core.
Rippling ash cloud. Salt scarred cliff face. Frozen and glistening glacial shard.
Ruby Wilkinson -
I intend to make paintings from memories, learning more about the unconscious. Memories are constantly changing, moving and evolving in people’s minds; creating endless false realities and recollections. I want to make work about social interactions, experiences, encounters and moments I have personally experienced in my life.
Two large scale paper drawings, 150cm x 100 cm. Using abstract drawing techniques combined with paint manipulation of paper there will be a balance of chance and control.
Steph Arrowsmith -
I intend to create large- scale prints which float in the space between figuration and abstraction and subvert traditional processes of image reproduction. I am exploring the potential for the prints being integrated with strange acid- etched sculptural metal frames.
I am influenced presently by early print imagery which depicts dark religious fantasies of apocalypse and doomsday, and the artificial realities constructed through reproduced colonial imagery of endemic avifauna, flora and landscape. I want to explore ideas around the fragile and intricate biosphere in the in-between space of devastating degradation and utopic regeneration,  phenomena and noumena, and ghosts of past and apparitions of future coexisting as unseen undercurrents of accepted material reality.
Trantham Gordon -
The work that I intend to continue working through explores the redevelopment of image and SPACE. The sculptural object contains the tools to create a reconstruction of the world surrounding it, as the surroundings contain movement, so in turn, does the image.
In reality this object is a camera (built out of several cameras amongst other technologies).
The use of these technologies create a pulsating energy -through delay and feedback loops- which imbue into the image a warmth and life - a result that stands apart from the puppeteering and facade of life created by animation.
I am influenced by a continued exploration of our understandings of SPACE and LINE and IMAGE as well as the existence of time within an artwork. The final work should be able to reproduce a moving image of the world in front of it whilst commenting on the deconstruction and reconstruction of the image shown and seen.
Christian Dimick -
I intend to make medium scale conceptual drawings on wood panel. Through using a range of direct mediums such as oil stick, charcoal and found object I aim to dictate personal idiosyncrasies of perception and memory. The starting point for these drawings is always walking, which translates into experimental documentitive language and then finds its way into a visual form. I am infl]uenced by other artists/writers who use walking as a means of understanding space, time and connecting narrative with objects such as Susan Solint, Richard Long and Stanley Brouwn.
What is the concept for the exhibition? What ideas does it explore, what are its reference points?
Our exhibition could be seen as the creation of a materially represented limbo, a between space neither here nor there, in which time and material solidity loses its hold on accepted perceptions of reality. Memories of past and apparitions of future intermingle in a strange fog. The exploration of this space between nothing and something echoes and amplifies the seething atmosphere of this moment of existence, in which we seem to gaze into a chasm, a darkness which could be full or empty, beneath feet run unutterable undercurrents which disrupt and destabilise.
The work and the intended space cohabitate conceptually in symbiosis. The space is an entrance and exit point, a through- space, a solid, architectural in-between. We intend to explore unconventional lighting and installation , using the limitations of the non- gallery space as an opportunity to break with convention and influence what we create. This space is the mouth to the vast expanse of the great hall, which will be empty and filled with darkness. The acoustics of this space create a dense silence which will be a potent atmospheric facet.

Quotes:
Henry Moore
“The mystery of the hole - the mysterious fascination of caves in hillsides and cliffs."
“One of the things I would like to think my sculpture has is a force, is a strength, is a life, a vitality from inside it, so that you have a sense that the form is pressing from the inside trying to burst or trying to give off strength from inside itself.”
"I admire most a disturbing element, a distortion, giving evidence of a struggle . . . . In great art, this conflict is hidden, it is unresolved. All that is bursting with energy is disturbing - not perfect."
“Turner can create almost measurable distances of space and air
The space he creates is not emptiness; it is filled with 'solid' atmosphere.”
W. J. T. Mitchell - Landscape and Power
“An empty space is not the same thing as an empty place. An empty place is filled with space, as if space were the negative void that rushes in when a place is vacated. It is the spectral absence that “fills” a hollow shell or a clearing in a forest.”
"Landscape exerts a subtle power over people, eliciting a broad range of emotions and meanings that may be difficult to specify. This indeterminacy of affect seems to be a crucial feature of whatever force landscape can have.”
“I aim to change “landscape” from a noun to a verb. (to describe an action, state, or occurrence) It asks that we think of landscape, not as an object to be seen or a text to be read, but as a process by which social and subjective identities are formed.”

Images: what might be shown, conceptual drawings of what the exhibition might look like

Identify the site for the exhibition and whether secured or aspirational. How does the site relate to the concept for the exhibition?
We are all making primarily wall-based, large scale works. This means we require a spacious exhibition area. We recognise all work as boldly individual, while supporting and enriching one another’s expressions through our various perspectives and interpretations.
First Choice: Block 10 Great Hall (10B09)
This space ties together our overarching concepts around sensory and individual perception in relation to space/place/time. The group wanted to use a space that pushed our practices out of the standard gallery setting, in our case the space becomes part of each of our works as they respond to its unique qualities such as size, lighting, reverberation and ambience.
Second Choice: 10A19 This space is also suitable for our group as it is large enough to fit all of our works.
How will the team work? Are there any organising principles? Are there prescribed roles/duties or are you organising yourselves in a different way?
We have no defined ‘leader’, instead we are supporting each other in sharing organisation tasks throughout the process. Concurrently we will  work independently on our own projects,  while frequently communicating our progress and artwork developments to one other.
A timeline: what needs to be done and by when?
Once we have secured an exhibition space, we will be able to plan further (layout, lighting, install).
In the meantime we will continue to work independently.
All works will be completed and ready to be installed before exhibition night (Friday 11 September).

Forge the doctor note to get the night off work. Drive in silence. The car knows where to go. It drives so smoothly in fact it’s almost floating now. Bottle it up one more time and leave no residue until the final destination is reached. Listen to the noise and notice the patterns, Listen to the layers of skin. There is a warehouse filled with ammonium nitrate (2750 tonnes). Untangle the inner threads. Do not feel the need to explain yourself today they will understand. Put some lemon on the crumbed fish and allow the sand to fill up under your fingernails for protection. Share the space you have created but allow it to be tampered. Think about the lotto today, Call your mother. Prepare the surface for one week and allow it to breathe before applying the layers. Think about it again and again. Apply the layer of milk, Let the milk fill the void of silence. Relive the memory over and over in order to pay respect. Allow the memory to become distorted with the following factors; Schemas, Source amnesia, The misinformation effect, The hindsight bias, the overconfidence effect and confabulation. The search for better antivenoms heats up as snakebites get renewed attention
Tumblr media
“It’s a miracle,” Noushad says. Thomas didn’t receive antivenom until three days after she was bitten. It should be given as soon as possible after a bite. Long delays before receiving antivenom normally result in irreversible organ damage or, worse, death.
As Thomas sat propped up on pillows in the intensive care unit of Little Flower, she expressed how fortunate she felt. “I feel I’ve had a rebirth.”
Although Thomas lived to tell her tale, many in India don’t. Snakebites kill nearly 50,000 people there every year. But snakebites aren’t India’s problem alone. Africa’s snakebite-related mortality rate is estimated at 30,000 per year, with sub-Saharan Africa being most affected. In total, more than 100,000 people die from venomous snakebites around the world each year.
In June 2017, the World Health Organization took notice, recognizing snakebites as a neglected tropical disease. Since then, the world body has established a working group of researchers, physicians, and public health experts to create a plan for improving access to treatment and improving the quality of antivenoms, especially in the developing world. It also approved a resolution at the World Health Assembly in May 2018 to create a framework for helping countries tackle snakebites.
Many countries struggle with treating snakebites because they lack the infrastructure or logistics planning needed to get antivenoms to people. For example, many clinics in the developing world don’t have adequate facilities for refrigerating antivenom serum. Also, many rural hospitals are often not staffed during the evenings or are remotely located, leaving victims with no choice but to rush to a traditional healer for immediate treatment, just like Thomas and her family did.
Another challenge is that some countries lack the expertise to distinguish good antivenoms from bad ones, says Jean-Philippe Chippaux, a French physician who has worked in sub-Saharan Africa. The trouble is, bad ones are often cheaper—and more dangerous. They contain high concentrations of preservatives or protein-degradation products, indicating poor storage conditions, Chippaux says.
Government officials generally pick the more inexpensive antivenom when deciding which one to stock hospitals with, Chippaux adds. “If the criteria is just price, it is not a good thing.” Moreover, not all antivenoms have gone through clinical trials and have therefore not been regulated.
Regulatory concerns aside, some snakebite researchers think antivenoms themselves need an update. The method for making antivenom was standardized in the early 20th century. It involves milking a venomous snake and then immunizing animals, mostly horses, with diluted venom. The horses’ immune systems generate antibodies against the venom molecules over a few months. Technicians then take blood plasma from the horses and extract the antibodies to make the antivenom serum.
It’s a long and expensive process, and some companies cut corners, especially in purification. “In Africa, the purification of antibodies is not sufficiently achieved, and we have antivenom with high risks of side effects,” Chippaux says.
Venoms also contain many components, including peptides, proteins, and enzymes. So antivenoms need to counter combinations of these rather than a single component to be effective. And the antibodies in antivenoms come from horses rather than humans. So injecting them into a person brings with it a risk of an allergic reaction to foreign substances, especially if the purification process hasn’t been carried out properly.
Because of these reasons and more, scientists have started to look for alternatives to current antivenoms, keeping in mind the challenges posed by the poor public health infrastructure in countries such as India.
SKIPPING THE FRIDGE
Some attempts to make alternative antivenoms focus on providing a therapy that is easier to use and easier to store. Current antivenoms are not stable unless refrigerated.
“The major gap in antivenom’s utility is that it can only be administered in the hospital, but the vast majority of deaths from snakebites—upward of 75%—occur before victims can get to the hospital,” says Matthew Lewin, an emergency physician and the director of the Center for Exploration and Travel Health at the California Academy of Sciences.
Lewin’s company, Ophirex, is investigating a therapy that wouldn’t have such storage needs. It is an off-patent compound named varespladib, first developed by the pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly and Company, for its venom-fighting properties.
The small molecule counters phospholipase A2, an enzyme that is found in the venoms of most snakes around the world. The enzyme degrades the lipids in cell membranes, causing cells to break down and a range of symptoms to appear, including paralysis, bleeding, and muscle destruction. Varespladib binds to the hydrophobic active site of the phospholipase enzyme and destabilizes it so it can’t go to work on lipids. The molecule also appears to fight inflammation in the victim’s body.
In test tubes, varespladib neutralizes the membrane-munching activity of venoms from 28 snake species, including the black mamba and death adder. Intravenous and subcutaneous injections of the molecule led to a 100% survival rate for rats and mice injected with venom from European adders or Eastern coral snakes (Toxins 2016, DOI: 10.3390/toxins8090248). Pigs that have been given coral snake venom also respond to varespladib. All the animals treated with the compound, either orally or intravenously, survived for the period studied, 120 h. But untreated pigs did not (Toxins 2018, DOI: 10.3390/toxins10110479).
The small molecule offers many advantages over conventional antivenoms, Lewin says. It is inexpensive to make and thus would be affordable in resource-poor parts of the world. It would also be shelf stable in tropical climates. Lewin points out that varespladib is thousands of times as potent as a conventional antivenom at inhibiting phospholipase. “Further, it can penetrate tissues that antivenom cannot, such as muscle and neurons.”
But varespladib’s biggest advantage is that anyone can give it to a victim right on the spot after a snakebite, Lewin says. Only trained health-care practitioners can administer traditional antivenom therapy to patients because the agents typically have to be given intravenously, and their side effects need to be monitored.
Still, Lewin emphasizes that the molecule probably would be used in combination with standard antivenoms. “Antivenoms have a longer half-life, circulating longer in the body, and a broader effect on nonphospholipase components of venom,” Lewin explains.
Lewin hopes to begin a Phase I or Pivotal Phase II clinical trial in early 2020, in time for the taipan snakebite season in Papua New Guinea. “We hope to partner with manufacturing firms that have global capabilities so that we can keep costs down and get the drugs to the people that need them most,” Lewin says.
While Lewin is exploring a small-molecule alternative to standard antivenoms, a team led by Kenneth Shea, a chemist at the University of California, Irvine, is investigating a hydrogel consisting of polymer nanoparticles.
The gel works by exploiting a phenomenon that happens when polymer nanoparticles are mixed with a solution containing proteins. The proteins glom on to the particles, creating what is called a corona. Shea and colleagues previously determined that they could get specific proteins to associate with the particles by tuning the composition of their polymers.
So the researchers developed nanoparticles that would form coronas of phospholipase A2, selectively sequestering the enzyme from snake venoms (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016, DOI: 10.1021/jacs.6b10950). Shea likes to describe the polymer nanoparticles as plastic antibodies because the particles are plastic and they tie up the enzyme, preventing it from acting on cells.
To find their antivenom nanoparticles, the researchers experimented with different combinations of monomers, such as acrylic acid, N-phenylacrylamide, N-isopropylacrylamide, and N,Nâ€Č-methylenebis(acrylamide), to produce particles with different polymer compositions. They tested this library of nanoparticles against different types of venoms, and they chose the particles with the highest affinity for phospholipase A2 for further study.
Shea and his team collaborated with José María Gutiérrez of the University of Costa Rica to test the best-performing nanoparticle in mice. They injected venom from an African cobra into the skin of the mice at a dose that would cause skin necrosis. Mice given several doses of the nanoparticle-based gel at the site of venom injection showed no signs of necrosis after 72 h, while untreated mice did (PLOS Neglected Trop. Dis. 2018, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pntd.0006736). According to further studies, the nanoparticles end up in the liver, where they are quickly captured and cleared from the body.
Because the synthetic polymers are stabler than antibodies, this gel could survive in harsh conditions in tropical regions, Shea says. “You don’t have to worry about refrigeration.”
But Shea says this so-called nanodote is not intended to replace traditional antivenom either. “It could be injected directly into the site of the bite by the victim or a companion,” he says. The gel would help keep the victim in stable condition until they get medical help, he adds.
Before moving to clinical trials, Shea and his team want to test the nanodote against other relevant venomous snake species.
While Lewin’s and Shea’s teams are looking for alternatives to antivenoms, some researchers haven’t given up on antivenoms’ main component: antibodies. These scientists are looking to biotechnology to establish less-cumbersome methods of producing venom-deactivating antibodies. The idea is to avoid milking dangerous snakes or injecting venom into horses.
One such approach involves developing human monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies are genetically engineered proteins that are synthesized by cloned immune cells and are identical to each other in amino acid sequence. Some cancer therapies use such antibodies to target specific proteins on cancer cells. A human monoclonal antibody is capable of targeting a specific venom toxin. An antidote that is a mixture of monoclonal antibodies could target multiple venom toxins to save the lives of snakebite victims.
If researchers could find monoclonal antibodies that target specific venom ingredients, they could produce the antibodies on a large scale in mammalian cells. “Everything can be produced in big fermentation tanks in the laboratory,” says Cecilie Knudsen, a researcher at the Technical University of Denmark. “This is faster than immunizing animals.” The process takes days, compared with the months that it takes to work with horses.
And because the antibodies are human, they are less likely to cause the allergic reactions seen with antivenoms made using horses. “Moreover, monoclonal antibodies can persist in the human body for a longer time—they don’t get cleared out by the immune system the way foreign antibodies would,” Knudsen says.
Scientists generally have two approaches to find a human monoclonal antibody that targets a specific venom protein. Hybridoma technology involves injecting the target protein into mice, isolating the genes for the mouse antibody that forms in response to the protein, then tweaking the gene in specific ways to humanize it. The other route is to use phage display, which won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, to screen a library of human antibody genes to find the antibody that binds a target protein.
Knudsen and her colleagues from Denmark and Costa Rica used the latter method to find human monoclonal antibodies against the venom of the black mamba, a highly venomous snake from sub-Saharan Africa. They looked for antibodies that could bind to so-called dendrotoxins inside the black mamba’s venom. The team made two prototype antidotes and tested them in mice, finding that treated mice survived injections of the mamba venom (Nat. Comm. 2018, DOI: 10.1038/s41467-018-06086-4).
Black mamba venom contains another group of deadly components called α-neurotoxins. Knudsen’s team next wants to develop antibodies against those molecules. The researchers’ goal is to find antibodies for all the key mamba toxins and then mix them together into one antidote.
Meanwhile, Paulo Lee Ho, a biochemist at Instituto Butantan, in SĂŁo Paulo, and his team are also harnessing biotechnology techniques to derive an antivenom against a particularly tricky snake. Their target is the venom of the coral snake Micrurus corallinus, one of the deadliest serpents in Brazil.
“The problem with making antivenom against coral snake is obtaining venom to immunize the horse. It doesn’t have enough venom in the venom gland,” Ho says.
Instead of milking these snakes for their paltry supply of venom, the team wanted to find a way to make the proteins themselves. They examined the amino acid sequences of the venom’s five most important toxins and then mapped their epitopes—the parts of the toxins to which an antibody would actually bind. They then constructed genes that encoded just those epitopes.
The researchers injected pieces of DNA containing these genes into mice so that the animals’ cellular machinery would synthesize and churn out proteins containing the epitopes. The rodents’ immune systems then started to produce antibodies against these epitopes. Basically, the scientists used the pieces of DNA to immunize the mice against the venom—like injecting horses with the actual snake toxins.
The team found that immunizing the mice first with these DNA pieces and then with a booster shot of proteins containing just the epitopes was fairly successful. The animals’ survival rate when injected with the snake venom was 60%. All the untreated mice died.
Ho wants to improve the survival rate. He thinks that the researchers haven’t yet isolated epitopes for all the significant toxins in the coral snake’s venom. “You’ve got to keep in mind that venom is very complex.”
Ho thinks this epitope immunization method could work well for snakes that have limited amounts of venom or highly venomous serpents that are difficult to handle. To produce antivenoms for people rather than mice, the team would have to apply its technique to horses and harvest the antibodies produced after immunizing them.
A LONG WAIT AHEAD
Some antivenom researchers are excited about these alternatives but think it’s still early days in their development. In particular, Chippaux, the French physician, thinks it will take a while for monoclonal antibodies to make it to the clinic for testing against snakebites. The venom of a single species of snake, he says, contains an eclectic cocktail of toxins, and making antibodies against every one of them would be a marathon task.
Julien Potet, a policy adviser for the nonprofit group Doctors Without Borders, says in the near term, these alternatives could work in conjunction with current antivenom therapies. For example, he says, monoclonal antibodies “could be added to the conventional animal antibody preparations in order to fortify them against selected snake venoms that are hard to neutralize with existing products.”
In general, these novel antidotes will have to prove a lot before they’d be adopted in the field, experts say. First, Potet says, other researchers will need to confirm in the lab that the antidotes neutralize their targeted venoms. After that, scientists will need to investigate any possible toxicities of the novel agents. And then large-scale clinical trials will be needed, and those are expensive.
“You need detailed studies that involve thousands of people for these novel antidotes because venom works differently on different people’s bodies, based on individual height, body weight, and amount of venom injected,” says Priyanka Kadam, founder of the India-based nonprofit group Snakebite Healing and Education Society and a member of the WHO panel on venomous snakebites.
Unfortunately, most of the antivenoms that are supplied to sub-Saharan Africa and India aren’t clinically tested. “Like for other neglected tropical diseases, there is very limited funding for the development of antivenoms,” Potet says. “For many producers, the money is just not there to finance the clinical trials. Only a couple of the dozen existing antivenoms intended for use in sub-Saharan Africa have been evaluated in robust randomized clinical trials.” And that doesn’t stop countries with lackadaisical regulatory bodies from registering antivenoms anyway. “It’s a shame,” Potet says.
Meanwhile, Chippaux, who has treated snakebites in sub-Saharan Africa for decades, believes there is actually no need for novel antidotes. Just improving the quality and quantity of conventional antivenoms could significantly help Africans. “There is a need for a greater quantity of good-quality antivenom. While fewer than 100,000 doses are sold annually in sub-Saharan Africa, actual needs are estimated to be higher than 1 million doses,” he says.
Potet also urges antivenom manufacturers to keep improving the current inventory. “This is not rocket science, and the investments that need to be made are probably not very high, but they need to happen,” Potet says.
He points to incremental improvements at all stages of antivenom production, including how the venom immunization mixture is prepared and how the final product gets purified. “Not many producers have focused on these incremental improvements,” he says.
In 2016, the WHO commissioned an assessment of the antivenoms sold in Africa and the facilities, many of which are in India, where they are produced. Manufacturers were asked to submit information about their products to the organization. WHO officers also inspected the facilities to check if they followed best practices of production—for example, they determined whether the horses were kept in healthy conditions. The WHO hasn’t yet disclosed its findings but plans to release a list of trusted suppliers after this assessment. “This will clarify which antivenoms are the most capable of neutralizing the venoms of the different African snake species,” Potet says.
Moreover, Doctors Without Borders is gearing up to host and implement clinical trials of existing antivenoms in sub-Saharan Africa because it wants to find the most effective antivenoms for African snake species. The organization will start after the WHO completes its assessment of African antivenoms. “Once this assessment is finalized, we will be able to select the antivenoms that we’d like to test in our clinical trial,” Potet says.
No matter which of these efforts—improving current antivenom production, developing antivenom alternatives, or creating human-antibody-based antivenoms—is most successful, it’s clear that changes are needed. “Ninety-five percent of people affected by snakebites come from impoverished backgrounds, and they aren’t aware of their fundamental rights, including the right to basic health care,” Kadam says. “These are voiceless victims, and not a priority for policy makers.” She says the developing world badly needs a novel antidote that could reduce treatment costs. “It would be a game changer.”

Recommendation Report for Website Security
Austin Marsh
University of Kentucky
Abstract
This paper acknowledges and displays different ways that website security is weak. There are several vulnerabilities in security that make it easy for attackers to exploit. Using examples from thorough research, I’m going to provide examples from the past to learn from and propose ways to help secure and ensure protection for valuable information on the web.
           Keywords: security, vulnerabilities, attackers, protection
In this day and age, there needs to be a high sense of urgency when it comes to website security to ensure protection to personal information. Over the last several years I understand that Company X has multiple attacks to their website and has been seeking a solution to their weak website security.
According to PandaLabs (2015), in 2015, 84 million new malware samples were taken which means 230,000 malware samples were being produced daily. Shortly after the internet was created, security questions were implemented to ensure access to personal accounts such as an email or banking account. In 2005 Paris Hilton’s T-Mobile account was broken into, in 2008 Sarah Palin’s email was hacked, and just this past year, the Equifax breach gave attackers abundant amount of personal information. These three incidents were all related back to weak security questions- and it does not seem a lot has changed even over a decade. Senior investigator for Quest Research, Anne Diebel, wrote about weak security questions and said, “The answers to many of them are easily researched or guessed, yet they can be the sole barrier to someone gaining access to your account” (Diebel, 2017). Professor Robert Proctor and Athar Ali, and professor Kim-Phuong Vu from California State University Long Beach did a study on web privacy policies and gathered information regarding weak security questions. They searched six financial sites to examine and said, “Moreover, all financial institutions used “mother’s maiden name” as a password security question” (Proctor, Ali, & Vu, 2008). Websites also contain vulnerabilities that trained attackers can exploit and to get into the account or database to steal information. Chief of security for Sentinel One, and founder of WhiteHat Security, Jeremiah Grossman, says, “Additionally, only 63 percent of the website vulnerabilities that security teams find after applications have gone live are remediated. This indicates that many vulnerabilities still go unresolved despite the threat they pose to the business” (Grossman, 2012). A key reason why there are mistakes and so many vulnerabilities is partly because of the lack of knowledgeable security workers and the great amount of information technology there is in security. Robert Lemos, an award-winning freelance journalist who has covered information security, cyber-crime, and technology's impact on society, writes about how security operation centers (SOCs) are having large issues with acquiring skilled workers, he says, “The State of Security Operations 2016 report found that the average maturity rating of SOCs fell over the past year, with 25 percent of companies falling to even score a level 1 on the 6 point-scale of maturity” (Lemos, 2016). Lemos then mentions that by doing surveys and talking with chief information security officers, that the number one issue they are facing is having skilled resources and the companies that do really well are the ones who find solutions and workaround the issues quickly and effectively. Even though these examples of faults in information security seem quite overwhelming, there are many solutions and ways to prevent these things from happening.
I write to stress the immediate attention that Company X needs to give their security because attacks are unpredictable; never knowing where they come from, the speed in which they come, or how they are distributed. There are many solutions to minimize the risk of vulnerabilities being exploited through a security’s defense; thus, ensuring maximum protection for valuable personal information. Since weak security questions have been seen to give a red carpet to hackers for more than a decade, it is time to do something different. Troy Hunt, cyber security expert, says, “The temporary solution is to create false answers and to keep them somewhere safe, whether in a password manager (which can generate and store a random string for each answer field) or even on a piece of paper” (Diebel, 2017). This technique may not be so convenient, and our experiences with this method may take some getting used to, but it isn’t about simplicity and usability, it is about preventing others from hacking into personal accounts. More issues we have seen are high amounts of malware being produced daily and the high amounts of vulnerabilities that companies have in their websites, the two together create a large risk. Research by Grossman (2012) suggests that the IT security and development teams need to be integrated and work together. This will allow the company to fix coding errors before they become vulnerabilities to become exploited. After Grossman did research on website vulnerabilities, he found that it had a lot to do with the coding, he wrote, “Seeing that 37 percent of the vulnerable website code that developers have written and placed on the Internet hasn’t been fixed, organizations can gain much from better security monitoring, testing, and remediation” (Grossman, 2012). The idea is that both departments of the company need to network with one another and to learn more about the other, so they have a more general understanding and can prevent mistakes. This would be very effective in the development stage, that way the development team can use the internet and not have to worry about the company’s security. To gradually strengthen security, Lemos (2016) suggests that companies should continue to create processes where employees are being trained year after year and it is evident that the companies who advance their maturity in security operation centers are the ones that succeed the most.
A reason there is hesitation when it comes to developing strong security system is the cost. Maria Korolov, a writer for CSO, weighs in on the topic of costs of cyber security and says, “The average U.S. company of 1,000 employees or more spends $15 million a year battling cybercrime” (Korolov, 2015). At first glance this can be shocking feelings of apprehensiveness can awaken, but further research by Korolov (2016) suggests that this is a great investment because it lowers defense cost. She writes, “The best-performing technology was security intelligence systems, which, on average, saved companies 3.7 million in cost. That translates to an average return on investment of 32 percent” (Korolov, 2016). At any moment and time, an attack can be launched and without security, a lot of money is put at risk. Investing in a security intelligence system will keep all records safe and increase longevity of the company.
Overall there is a serious problem with companies being attacked and losing lots of money and valuable information. To ensure maximum protection it is important to invest in smart and knowledgeable employees, yearly trainings, higher levels of defense mechanisms, security intelligence systems, and an open mind to enforce optimization. The history of website security involves many defeating stories, but also victorious ones. Either way, they are great lessons that we can take and learn from.
