Hybrid Cafe Yans

A list of the hybrid yans since it's been a minute-. The first name is their real name and the second is the nicknames reader has given them. The only exclusions are Saber and Wistera who haven't been nicknamed yet, and Doc and Trick who have never been official named

Saber [he/him] - Model/Influencer Catboy who got saved from the ran by Cafe reader on their first shift. Very snobby and feels entitled to most if not all of reader's time being their first customer

Clyde/Spot [he/him] - A lonely delivery rabbit. Shy and Sweet. Bounced around in the foster care system as a child and has severe abandonment issues steaming from it which later on resulted in him dying his fur white to be more appealing to others. His nickname comes from Reader finding a spot on his ear since it had been a while since his last dye job

Shanna/Bo [She/Her] - Reader's sheep girl coworker. Extremely clumsy and timid, but also plays up the act to lean on reader's shoulder. The daughter of a local club owner who is still coming to terms with her recent coming out.

Pauline/Belle [She/Her] - The ex head chef at the cafe. A hot headed cow woman with a soft spot for reader who's what keeps her crawling back to the city from her cozy new life on her farm

Robbie/Honey [They/Them] - A bumble bee who as their name implies is sweet as can be..... on the surface. Robbie is one of if not the most willing to beat others into submission for Reader. Their mother is the head of a massive company who gifted them the entire apartment complex they live in. Later moves Reader into one of them who pays next to nothing for rent

Trick [They/Them] - A tired Crow enjoying early retirement/hiatus from their work. Greatly enjoys relaxing with a cup of tea and gifting reader presents from the various regions they've traveled to over the years. Works as a teacher as a secondary occupation which slowly drains them as it reminds them of the empty nest they have at home

Asher/Prince [he/him] - Hyperactive Hyena boy ready and willing to throw hands for reader. Their kindness helped him get over his fear of humans after years of bullying for having a human parent and a shorter stature because of it, and being wrongfully arrested when attacked by bullies and choosing to fight back

Wisteria [She/Her] - Plant woman of unknown origin. Owns a flower shop not too far from the cafe and supplies it with bouquets for their displays which she uses to eavesdrop on reader. Soft spoken and formal

Doc [They/it] - Leech Hybrid med student. Extremely giggly and carefree. Always tries to give Reader check ups which certainly aren't ploys to obtain vials of their sweet, sweet blood. Has difficults walking on land and wears leg braces for the weak muscles in their legs

Scout/Bear [he/him] - Wolf hybrid. Doesn't like to talk much about himself, but lived with his grandmothers and dogs in the wilderness before they all passed away. Stoic and grouchy, but weak to soft praise and touches

The manager - A deer hybrid mentioned briefly in the Christmas special. Not much to them now, but I'd really like to use them eventually

some extra details - I highly recommend MorbidGamer's spreadsheets for keeping track of everything, you can find them linked in the Google Doc for the challenge; I am not starting in 1300, so I deleted all of the cells in my copy until 1890 - I'm making minor changes to IllusoryThrall's rules as far as their gameplay settings, but I am using their holidays - Likewise, I'm making some small changes to cutecoffeegal's standard rules for personal preference towards storytelling, so I might allow an heir to be a woman depending on the story I wish to tell

Headcanons on if you like with 049,035 and 106?

I know you said you wanted headcanons on these three as roommates, but I did an ask on them as roommates a few months ago, so to mix it up, I'm going to do some on them traveling together post-roommate situation!

-All good things must come to an end. In this case, the end came when the mask contracted what was for him the equivalent of a bad flu. It caused him to secrete so much corrosive black fluid that it was impossible to keep the house from sustaining serious damage or to hide their supernatural nature from the neighbours. Once some loud cracks made them fear for the house's structural integrity, they decided to flee the area to avoid any massive bills and strange questions their landlord would no doubt provide them with.

-The old man's pocket dimension comes in great handy during their travels. The trio were able to take all of their things with them as they left because they could all just be carried in the dimension. It's also possible for a person to be carried within it, if you don't mind the horrid smell and the sound of screams. The mask traveled this way while shaking off the last of his illness.

-While the old man provides the storage space, Doc provides the human resources. Able to sniff out the ill with ease, Doc is able to build up a small following of people who are desperate for cures to what ails them, even if it means doing the strange trio some favours first. This is very important as none of them can really exist in polite society without being at best stared at (the old man in particular gets denied service a lot because his rotting smell is unpleasant to other customers).

-Doc is unofficially their leader for the sole reason that he's the only one of them who cares where they go. Doc has a goal in mind, but since the other two just want pleasure and safety, they're happy to follow anywhere so long as they're around people for the old man to torture and the mask to use as a body. They're less happy, but willing, to follow Doc's arbitrary rules such as "don't harm my followers without permission," and "don't appear in front of intoxicated campers as a prank."

-The mask is the pragmatic one of the bunch. He's had to drag Doc out of areas high in pestilence because it's been a few days and the foundation could catch up to them like this. Since Doc is more focused on curing than their freedom and the old man barely cares now that he's stocked up on people in his torture dimension, the mask often feels like the only voice of reason.

-Despite their differences, the trio are all glad to have each other. All three have gone through long periods of having to travel all alone, and they've bonded quite a bit by now.

1. what is the character's go-to drink order?

definitely something fruity.. can’t think of anything specific rn but it’s definitely cold and with fruit in it. she’ll nearly always get a cold drink, even if it’s snowing outside.

2. what is their grooming routine?

she takes care of herself really well most days- washes her face with nice-smelling soap, uses leave-in conditioner for her wavy hair, etc.. the only times she slips up in her little daily routine are when she’s in a depressive episode after burning herself out or is in a place without running water.

3. what was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go?

two pairs of glass daggers.. they’re Very Nice. she commissioned them from a blacksmith she met while traveling with adonis and lorne.

one pair has greenish glass with a silvery hilt and a leaf motif. the other pair has bluish glass with a gold hilt and a star motif.

she began courting cordelia by offering her the blue/gold set. they got along super well and became girlfriends <3

eventually, the two of them had to travel a long distance apart. they swapped one dagger with each other to feel close while apart. even after they reunited, they’ve kept their pairs mixed :-)

while the daggers aren’t enchanted, ivy can channel dark magic through them. they glow and look like uranium glass when she does it!

here's a quick rough draft of what the daggers look like :O using the skyrim glass dagger as a base for now until i come up with something better. the daggers aren't super practical tbh.. but since ivy fights with magic and cordelia fights with a greatsword, they don't have to worry about their practicality that much lol

7. describe the shoes they’re wearing.

hmm… the post-apoc equivalent of doc martens lol. tough and nice-looking. they’re usually a little muddy from exploring old ruins and traveling.

8. describe the place where they sleep.

ivy’s bedroom is cery cozy and cluttered! she’s got a bed in the corner that’s covered in a heap of blankets (which she usually sleeps on top of instead of under).

there are shelves with all her books, trinkets, and gifts from her friends and family. ivy also has a desk in her bedroom that she studies at. there’s about a 50/50 chance of her falling asleep at the desk instead of in bed tbh

the lighting is very dim. during the day, it only comes in through a window which is almost always covered by decorative curtains. at night, she keeps a lantern lit over her desk.

chai! lorne grew up in a place where it was basically the most common/popular drink around. iced or hot, doesn’t matter, he loves it. bonus points if it has aromatic herbs & spices.

it’s pretty simple- he brushes his hair with his fingers, washes his face with water, and puts on a little sunscreen (he’s got that redhead complexion). if he has a lot of spare time, he’ll take some time to stretch- gotta take care of your body when you’re a swordsman!

3. what was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go?

lorne’s most expensive purchase was his prosthesis (left lower leg. i used to have it that he lost his forearm, but changed it to his leg in my latest story rewrite). he got it custom designed and had it built to be extremely durable.

well-worn boots with a steel toe and metal shin-guards.

8. describe the place where they sleep.

lorne’s bedroom is surprisingly empty.. he’s used to having to travel constantly & fitting all his belongings into one or two bags.

even in a permanent home, lorne keeps it pretty bare, only using a small shelf on the wall to display a few of his keepsakes at a time. he keeps a box under the bed with the others and swaps them out when he feels like it. he makes his bed about half the time. there’s a desk in his room like ivy’s, but he doesn’t use it very often. adonis uses it more than he does tbh wbsbwkf

It's quiet, and Otto hasn't really expressely enjoyed the quiet in a very long time, considering his mind used to be occupied by four, self-contained AI-voices. When he ventures out in public, he's learned to hide his Actuators, something he'd gotten quite Good at when his mental fortitude had been tested by the AI. He's gotten it down to a science, though these days he finds the huge coats and draped leather to be cumbersome. In defense of Blutch: Family or lack thereof

So they take him to an orphanage where he gets mistreated by the people working there. The orphanage is actually one of Doc's few remaining customers as the children there get injured so often (implied child abuse). When we see Blutch again he's in solitary confinement, which he uses as an opportunity to bury the headmaster alive

From this point on he travels with Doc, and Doc acts as sort of a really bad father figure as they travel West to California in hopes of finding gold. This isn't really the story of Blutch's life though, it's about his family, or lack thereof, if you want to know the full trials and tribulations of his childhood read Vertes Années it's a really good album.

Anyway, Doc continues being a drunkard who can't keep a job and barely pays attention to Blutch or his well being. Blutch runs off after being severely mistreated in a railroad construction job Doc got for them.

He then goes on to raise himself as he doesn't trust any adult figures in his life to take care of him. He sees Doc three other times in his life after leaving. The first time, Doc makes Blutch buy everyone at a bar alcohol and Blutch leaves by morning. The second time, Blutch trusts him enough to go prospecting with him again and shows Doc how much gold he's found. Doc not only steals his gold but uses it to buy everyone at a bar alcohol. The next day everyone is panning in the area Blutch found the gold in and the two don't see each other for years. The third time Doc decides he needed to do better and breaks Blutch out of jail so like, good for him there. Closest thing he had to a father figure.

In the album about Chesterfield's cousins, he's asked about how it feels to not have a family (or more like if it sucks to not have a family). Blutch responds along the lines of "You get used to it! And there's less to worry about!" I suppose he means he doesn't have to worry about how anyone he cares about is doing because I guess there just... aren't any.

Interestingly enough though, he actually has an identical twin brother. Remember how Blutch was abandoned with a doctor in Missouri? Blutch's twin brother was abandoned alone in a carriage in Texas. He's found and raised by Comanches and the two run into each other by pure coincidence.

They spend the album bonding despite not being able to talk to each other, making an effort to get points across with charades when there's no translator present.

We even see a moment where we learn that Blutch isn't actually 100% okay with how he was raised. He sees his brother with a stable adopted father and loving family and thinks about how all he had was a drunkard who could be anywhere. Chesterfield in a gesture to be nice says that he's not alone because he's there for him.

Although Blutch actually... rejects this gesture in the next scene by calling Chesterfield dead weight holding him back; I feel that's largely in part because he doesn't want to change their dynamic. He's found a balance he can live with where the two are joking/fighting but constantly together and if Chesterfield starts trying to be someone who openly cares about him he wouldn't know how to handle it. After all, he said earlier he's used to not having a family and not worrying about other people.

Well, who's ready to put a much earlier scene into new context? This scene in particular where Blutch gets mad at Colonel Appleton for being willing to let Chesterfield take the fall for his son. Remember how Blutch says there's "less worries" without a family? It's a two way street and he knows that means there are fewer people who worry about him. You really think Blutch saw Colonel Appleton's preference for his son and didn't think about the fact that he doesn't have a father figure? As of this moment the last time he saw Doc he stole his money and screwed him over. Chesterfield has loving parents, they're looking after Blutch's bar when this goes down. bdubs’ car is a POS. he loves it to death but it fucking sucks. he got it secondhand from some punk writing it off, ““fixed”“ it and now it barely beats walkin’. She’s got rust holes and leaks and the seats smell so strongly of weed he’d be taken in for dealing if hermitcraft had cops. He also doesn’t understand the limitations of his own car, he thinks it goes fast and every time the fuel gauge dings he tells her to calm down. Somehow he’s never crashed and Somehow (possibly through sheer cartoon force of will) it’s never failed him. I think he’d own a v8 commodore sedan or something similar, and he estimates his boot space with how many bodies can fit in there (a lot).

there’s nothing technically wrong with etho’s car it’s just really old. It was made in the awkward era where no one really knew how to make cars but they were trying their best. He bought it new, learnt how to care for vehicles and has kept it in good nick. Every time he goes out he has to crank the engine to prime it even though he’s rebuilt the damn thing to keep up with the latest technology. (it’s an Etho job, so who knows how that thing works.) he doesn’t remember what model it is and he took all the branding off it so he wasn’t advertising for free. it still has a cassette player.

doc has an R32 GTR that he spent ten years hunting for. It has a candied green apple paint with a custom insignia (the G.O.A.T. symbol) on the hood and he’s only had to get the shocks replaced on it. This is what he tells literally everyone that asks about his car because goddamn is that a nice piece of metal and he knows it. Despite this he drives like an old grandma and is overly cautious about fuel consumption. he mostly uses it for long trips and prefers walking. has a custom-made screw on muffler in the boot that he puts on in crowded areas and takes off on the open road. He also has a second car he’s building from scratch to be “more G.O.A.T.-like”, whatever that means. beef has a jeep :) and on the outside it looks like any normal car to ever exist. But this mfer can Go and boy howdy does he make it Go! Full new engine and only a 25% chance of catching fire next time he starts it! He likes it a lot because it makes going between hermitcraft and his other worlds comfortable and simple. he’s not very good at parking but he can drive offroad excellently after so much practice. and yes he knows the jokes. he has bumper stickers (custom made) all over it. he calls it the jeef. beef’s jeefs.

mumbo owns a car, maybe? honestly he isnt too sure these days. He knows he got one at some point and he thinks it looked like Grian’s one (he remembers buying it because it had funny flip-up headlights like Grian’s does.) it doesn’t really matter because he also owns a motorcycle (hayabusa) and he can just borrow someone else’s car if he needs to.

Grian stole mumbo’s car. he didn’t really mean to but it’s not like mumbo was using it and Grian likes it. It has cute little flippy headlights and everything! (its an MR2, painted blue and then badly repainted red after grian stole it. he keeps adding paint to try to make it look better but it just isnt working) Iskall has a hoverbike. no one is quite sure how they have a hoverbike but they’re all jealous. i dont have much more to say except im also jealous

zedaph has a DeLorean! he’s not sure if it’s A DeLorean or if it’s The DeLorean. it’s surprisingly difficult to tell if you’ve traveled back in time when you move worlds so quickly. he likes the beep boop noises it makes though.

tango has a 240SX hatch. he got it for the flippy headlights and then realised mumbo and possibly grian also had a car with flippy headlights. then he decided he was gonna own the headlights and now the car has 75% more flipflops, beepboops and doodads than before, and also drives fast enough to kill god. it has flame decals.

xisuma drives a vauxhall chevette and it’s so small he has to bend in half to fit in it. (this is literal. look it up. they are so fucking small.) everyone on the server makes fun of him for having such a small car but he likes it. also if he has trouble parking (because he can’t move to see over his shoulder) he can just pick it up and move it himself. he thinks it’s kindof like a puppy and he’d be very upset if he had to get a new vehicle (because he’d be favouring one over the other then)

evil x drives xisuma’s car but every time he does he puts a skull sticker on the windscreen. it fits them much better but they wish the seat covers weren’t floral print.

scar’s car? you all saw season eight

TFC has a WB ute, with sun visor. it’s a reliable car and it does its job. he’s not much of a car guy. most of it’s white but the hood is sunfaded blue and one of the doors is highlighter yellow (seriously, who painted a car that colour?) from incidents.

Impulse has a mustang. everyone pretends they don’t really care but he knows better. he put a muffler on it and abides “speeding laws”, thereby completely ruining the entire point of getting a mustang.

cub has a sandman ute. he likes it. he wouldn’t get another car. he’s one of the few hermits that actually waxes their car instead of wondering why it gets so dirty so often. he only really uses it to go surfing or offworld driving, and a lot of the other time it has a special spot safe in one of Scar’s swaggons. hes also one of few hermits that puts their car in a garage instead of wondering why it gets so dirty so often.

Diluc/‘Angel’

After his father got bored with the wine industry, he passed the whole company off to Diluc on his 18th birthday in order to shift his focus to mining. Diluc found himself swamped with all kinds of business decisions while just barely being an adult. He expanded the company and hired some very trustworthy people to handle things for him so he could finish college

When the business was given to him, Diluc and Kaeya had an explosive fight over it. Kaeya felt like he deserved to have some say in what happens to the business, he’s still a part of the family! But Diluc refused to let him in on any decisions so Kaeya packed his bags and left (not before cussing him out in front of their father, staff and business partners). He was just in a silly, goofy mood. They’re fine now, not on the best terms but they do chat and meet up for lunch on occasion.

He is filthy rich, he couldn’t spend all of his all of his money if he tried, so he doesn’t really need the job at the cafe! Kaeya got him the job because he knew his brother was stuck in a weird, antisocial funk and needed some fun in his life

Diluc loves this job, he has a great time, but it isn’t his main job. His priority will always be the family business!! If he has to quit his job at the cafe, he would in a heartbeat

Kaeya

Kaeya was going to go into the police academy but was scouted out by a modeling agency. They had seen him at Ragnvindr company events and thought ‘well damn’ so they gave him a pretty generous deal

Kaeya makes a good living off of modeling, the tips and paycheck from the cafe. He rakes in cash pretty quickly just cause he knows how to get it. That, and his dad sends him checks every other month as well. Kaeya thinks of it as ‘I’m sorry’ money. He isn’t wrong

He doesn’t travel much for modeling, which he doesn’t mind, so he kinda just hangs around the city with a lot of free time on his hands between photo shoots. That’s why he got this job at the cafe! It gives him something to do and it’s fun as hell ;)

Albedo

Bedo is one busy bunny. He finished college early and is getting his masters degree online. He works most days at the cafe and on the weekends, he tutors other college students in bio/chem/science related subjects

(He was actually Xiao’s tutor back when he was failing chemistry!! Xiao is very thankful for Albedo’s help!!)

His dream is to become a biochemist, he’s always been interested in cells and what makes up living beings. So having a career in that field would make him the happiest man alive

His mother and sister live outside the city in a more rural area so he spends a lot of time FaceTiming the two of them! Klee is always so excited to hear about Albedo’s experiments or the people he’s met while working in such a bustling, fun city :)

Zhongli

Zhongli is a simple man! He’s a bunny waiter and an artist

He creates intricate pieces based on folklore from different cultures, focusing mostly on dragons. His favorite medium is paint, he loves painting on glass and layering the panes in order to create a 3D piece

He sells his works to galleries, shops and anyone who wants them! As long as they appreciate the story behind the artwork. Sadly…He undersells his work. He could def be making more money but he just does not desire money or material goods the way others may

So he got his job at the cafe in order to help out his dear friend Ningguang, not for money, he only planned on working there for a month or two until she got more bunnies but…he ended up really loving the people he works with :’) he looks forward to working with them now and texts/calls them outside of work to meet up for lunch or bowling (such an old man thing to do omfg)

Dainsleif/‘Sweetie’

Dain was a bouncer at another bar before leaving to come to Celestia’s! He’s good friends with Beidou, they belong to the same motorcycle club so when she was talking to him about the lack of security at the cafe/bar, he stepped in to help out

Little did he know…he’d actually become a bunny…And like it

This is his full time job now, he doesn’t have another for the time being. While he is a bunny at the cafe, he still keeps an eye out for any threats to his coworkers and has access to the offices upstairs (Ningguang’s office and the security office)

When he isn’t waiting tables, he’s upstairs in a tank top and sweatpants keeping an eye on the security cameras and talking to the other security guards through their ear pieces

Ajax

Ajax is a student who doesn’t really have much time on his hands

He mows lawns in the summer and he’s quit his job as a cashier to come work at the cafe! He mostly works night shifts his cause he’s still going to school aaaaaand he’s on his college’s swim team! He’s about to graduate so he works close with his coach to help train the others on the team

He doesn’t really want his family knowing that he skips around in a skimpy bunny outfit and fucking customers most nights but I mean…They’re bound to find out if they see him in pictures people post

Xiao/‘Tofu’

Xiao is an art student!! He wants to be a tattoo artist :)

He’s already got one sleeve of tattoos, it’s unfinished but you can’t really tell just by looking. When he isn’t at the cafe, he’s either in class or shadowing Ganyu, his best friend and tattoo artist. Their art styles greatly differ, she focuses her craft on cutesy, colored tattoos, but she is skilled. And Xiao looks up to her

Xiao admires Zhongli too, they met at the cafe and when Zhongli found out Xiao wants to be a tattoo artist he told him that once he’s licensed, he wants to get a tattoo from him :’)

Baizhu/‘Honey’

Baizhu is a (mostly) full time pharmacist, hence why he isn’t usually at the cafe

He also has a niece, Qiqi, who he babysits often. He loves her very much so he has no problem watching her! Baizhu will even bring her to the pharmacy with him when he’s swamped with work. In the break room, he has a play kitchen, coloring books and a bunch of puzzles to keep Qiqi occupied while he works :)

When he’s not at work, he’s at home resting. He has chronic pain flare ups in his back and shoulders that can make life miserable :( he has plenty of good days that outweigh the bad! And as a pharmacist, he has access to any medicine he needs to make his life easier!

Dottore(Alain)/‘Doc’

Alain’s an oral surgeon who’s a little bit….too into his job

He isn’t phased by blood or gore so he’s easily able to conduct procedures that would make other squeamish. He’ll pull teeth, put in dental implants, remove rotten tissue, any of that without even flinching

Outside of that, he works at the cafe. He wears a mask in order to avoid being recognized even though at his job as a surgeon, he’s usually wearing a medical mask anyways. It’s just a precaution

This has nothing to do with his career but he used to be a tap dancer and actor so he’d join in on local theatre shows! He helped build sets when he wasn’t rehearsing. He doesn’t have time for that anymore (which kinda makes him sadddd) but he has all kinds of theatre playlists on his phone and in his car that he’ll sing along to

Scaramouche/‘Boss’

Scara’s job at the cafe is his main job! His side job is something you may not expect from such a grump

He works at an animal shelter! In fact, he brings cats home to train so they have an increased chance of being adopted. Someone is more likely to adopt a potty trained, socialized cat than a feral cat who doesn’t know what a litter box is. So Scara brings them to his apartment for some one-on-one socializing, training and cuddling

One time he offhandedly mentioned working at an animal shelter while he was working at the cafe and sure enough, three separate customers from the cafe came by to adopt!!! Only one actually took an animal home but he was still surprised that those people had listened to him and cared enough to come by

Scara is a jerk most of the time but when he’s at home…by himself…With a lil kitten sleeping in his lap while he plays games on his PC…Yeah, he softens up a bit

So as you can see, we have a very diverse group working at the cafe! They’ve all learned a lot from each other, come to appreciate each other’s friendship and come to help each other out when one of their coworkers is in need or upset.

"Dr. Holligay's Big Book of Everything" - a life skills educational show in which the titular Dr. Holligay (our host) offers simple, easy to digest pieces of important life knowledge for kids as a foundation to be built upon, including things like "the names of car parts," "you may be too small to cook a full dish but here's how to crack an egg at least," etc., with the occasional wildlife/animal safety segment from Dr. Jill. Obviously this would work best in conjunction with the universe where you've also added home ec and shop class and other practical skills into the American school required curriculum, but I imagine it could be very useful on its own too!-- @wouldntyoulichentoknow​

YES. I get so frustrated with people sometimes, not always in a fair way, about not knowing stuff that I consider BASELINE, and if Sesame Street is there to help teach basic literacy, and Mr. Rogers there to teach basic empathy, I will be there to teach basic life skills. I would love it if no kid went to kindergarten not understanding how to make a grilled cheese and how the gas goes in the car. 

I can't think of a title, but I would actually love to see you do a Torah discussion and Jewish history/culture show for kids. I feel like, even though I did go to an evening/weekend Hebrew school as a kid, reading and discussing the torah (which I would have lapped up like a sponge) really wasn't their priority compared to singing songs I hated and telling super sanitized stories that I found boring. I understand that things do need to be age appropriate but I definitely think that the THREE DIFFERENT SYNAGOGUES I eventually was at all being dull pointed to there also being an issue in engagement. -- @dancinginredshoes​

An advantage or disadvantage Midge will have, depending on who you ask, is I am going to be a lot of her formal Jewish education, because we can’t afford a full time rabbi anymore and so have a rotating cast of students. I very much have my own ideas about how kids should be taught to engage with the Torah, and nice songs aren’t NOT a part of it, but I think past a point you have to be taught the level of questioning that Judaism is, at core, about. Luckily my community is pretty into this--last week, we had a little girl going around grilling the adults about what WE think God wants from us, and why God didn’t make EVERYONE Jewish, and why does God WANT us to be Jewish? And everyone was very much “What a great question! I think...” so I have some hope ALL THIS TO SAY YES, as Midgie gets bigger I may be taking over as the children’s educator (lol pour one out for every Jewish child in our radius) despite not growing up with a lot of formal Jewish education, so I have MANY thoughts on this. 

Holigay's Histories! This is an edutainment show similar to Bill Nye, only covering history. Two major things set this show apart and make it an instant smash hit: 1. At least a whole month had passed since the three of them had come to end up in a somehow even more scrungy apartment based in the heart of New York City and despite the chill of the air Douxie had snuck outside onto the balcony in dire need of something a bit fresher than the mustiness of inside to be alone with his thoughts. Despite all the filtration wards that had been set up to make Nari that little bit more comfortable they barely seemed to be making a dent and the second he realised he was fidgeting more than focusing on the paper sitting on the coffee table outside seemed the wiser course and so here he was.

Stupid as it might sound life of late was feeling disturbingly monotonous in how it was get up early (UGH), grab something quick to go because there wouldn’t be a chance to eat until the first shift was over, hopefully get a snack before heading to the second job then if really lucky have enough time to crawl back here to collapse somewhere with no energy left for much else except on those scarce days off eked out when the stars aligned right. On top of that as someone who adores travelling staying put for long usually drove him stir crazy after a few months he was already showing signs of it happening here too. In comparison somehow Arcadia never did, maybe it was because it’d felt like a home much like Camelot had done once? Part of the reason was definitely the fact Zoe could be a constant for the first time ever compared to the days, weeks or months scattered over the centuries whereas now they were once again forced apart by both wrong end of the continent stuck with phone calls or laughing at one another over the camera only. He misses the bookshop so much work had been put into, the customers that came into Benoit’s always asking how he was doing, the novelty of not having to pretend trolls didn’t exist even if the whole Akriridon thing was a surprise not to mention the apocalypse round two that came with them. It was a good normal and one he was felt a bit lost without.

Leaving also meant that certainty of Merlin was out there somewhere waiting for his moment to pop back up really was gone, something that had been a constant reassuring thought and it’s almost like being a moored boat just one wave away from drifting to parts unknown. Much like the explosion some things that happened still didn’t seem real, more like they were more this weirdly vivid nightmare that forgot to let him wake up so was stuck in a golden haze with no way out.

Glancing through the door he can just about make out Archie perched next to Nari on the armrest having grabbed the sofa for herself and looks to be marvelling at something on the TV making him smile softly. It’s likely one of the David Attenborough docs she seemed to have become quite taken with particularly in how the camera could ‘travel’ between all these places faster than even she could. Neither had the heart to say it was clever video editing, even the magical deserved a bit of sparkle in their lives. This’ll just be for him then and that’s fair enough.

Grabbing one of the two shoddy white plastic lawn chairs he’d picked up dirt cheap with the added bonus of easy cleaning he sits down and pulls his favourite guitar into his lap. Taking a deep breath to try and dislodge anything that might be rattling around his throat that shouldn’t be he begins to strum a few testing notes and making a few minor adjustments to get things about how they’re needed. There had been words banding through his head the past twenty minutes and if they weren’t going to let themselves be written down then going straight to testing will have to do he supposed. Using the staff was an option but… Maybe when he is more certain that he won’t be spit balling something terrible, on the fly usually fell one way and not always in the positive.

Grazing the strings once then a second time, the wizard begins to quietly sing not at all caring who might hear.

As the last few words leave his lips he is not ashamed to admit that tears had started falling probably about four verses back and are still coming so he tries to rub the evidence away on a sleeve. Unfortunately all it ends up doing is smearing salt into blue eyeshadow leaving him even more of a mess than he’d started plus an aching chest. It hurts so damn much but it is a good hurt, a reprieve.

“Some grand tribute, huh? Still can’t do much without it all setting me off again.” It is said half sighed while leaning back where he is barely able to make a single star out because of all the lights that blare well into the night unknowingly snatching away another source of comfort. But they’re still there he knows, watching as they have his entire life. Nothing is forever in the world of magic nor in life, not as long as somebody is still there to talk about it.

Isabel of Aragon’s letter to her father, Fernando II of Aragon, in which she tells him about her life in Portugal, and expresses her feelings and worry about her parents and her sister-in-law following her brother’s death.

Isabel of Aragon was the firstborn child of the Catholic Monarchs, born in Dueñas, on 2 October 1470. When her parents ascended the throne of Castile in December 1474, she became the Princess of Asturias, sworn in as such during the session of the Cortes in April 1476. During the said session her hand was also promised in marriage to Ferdinand, Prince of Capua, the grandson of Ferdinand I of Naples, formerly having been engaged to Dauphin Charles [future Charles VIII of France]. After her brother Juan was born, on 30 June 1478, she became second in the line of succession. The negotiations with Portugal to end the war of the Castilian Succession began at the time, and according to the Treaty of Alcáçovas, signed on 4 September 1479, Isabel was to marry Alfonso, the grandson of Alfonso V of Portugal, the only son of Prince John of Portugal and his wife Eleanor of Viseu. It was also stipulated the infanta had to move to Portugal in order to live with her betrothed in the Castle of Moura, in the custody of Beatriz of Portugal, Duchess of Viseu, her mother’s aunt until 1483. The marriage was contracted by proxy in Seville, on 18 April 1490, and was ratified in Évora, on 27 November. One year later the prince fell off his horse and died. Isabel was claimed back by her parents. She was devastated, starved herself and plunged into depression, determined not to remarry. At first her father agreed not to force her into new marriage, but when John II of Portugal died in 1495, and Manuel I succeeded him, Fernando changed his mind, considering the new king had declined his proposal to marry his younger daughter, María. Manuel I was determined to marry Isabel. It cost the Catholic Monarchs a lot to persuade their daughter, and although she eventually agreed, she demanded something in return; the expulsion of Jews from Portugal, although it is being debated by scholars whether she had a definitive say in Manuel’s decision on the matter. Isabel's second marriage took place in Valencia de Alcántara, on 30 September 1497. Her brother, Prince Juan, died four days later, and shortly afterward his widow, Margaret of Austria, suffered a miscarriage. Those unfortunate events made Isabel and her newly-wed husband the new princes of Asturias, sworn in as such at the Cortes of Toledo, on 29 April 1498. Unfortunately, Isabel died in childbirth in Saragossa, on 23 August 1498, while she was waiting to be sworn in as the Princess of Girona by the Aragonese Cortes. Her son, Miguel de la Paz, died on 19 July 1500.
