One of my favorite shows for a number of reasons... me and my talented guys and girls had an insane amount of album material to learn before this particular show. There were endless creative and technical details to work out and high obstacles to overcome. My people all stayed down and dedicated to the project. It was a major success. Over 300 tickets sold as an opening local act performing previously unreleased material. Crowd was hype. Me and my Urban Rock Project peoples had a blast. DJ Climax was on 🔥 @partywithclimax ... my friends at @shofilmscinema and @jadomedia Captured the energy. This marked the beginning of the Breath by Breath album era. Special thanks to everybody in the crowd who came out to show love that night. Week 11 // Jeanine Centuori

This week, Jeanine Centuori’s “not a lecture” explored the ever so pressing question of how to practice architecture. I found Centuori’s backstory and inspiration as interesting as her latest works. While not the typical or traditional definition of architecture, Jeanine has worked on several public arts projects with the UrbanRock Center – which she founded. As public projects typically reach wider audiences, Centuori makes sure to always thinking about what the public wants. When treating the general public as her client, Centuori strives to create an experience. Often these experiences are moments specific to the location and perspectives of the site. Capitalizing on the unique qualities of a specific project makes her projects meaningful and worthwhile. Jeanine is yet another great example of using an education in architecture for work beyond designing and building.

Guest Speaker Jeanine Centuori (Week 11)

In the beginning of our lecture class, guest speaker Jeanine Centuori was kind enough to share with us her story/journey. As we learned, Jeanine Centuori is the director of the “Agency for Civic Engagement” (ACE) on campus, and founder/co-principal of “UrbanRock Design”, located at the Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles. Her lecture was fascinating and inspiring for many reasons. Jeanine informed the class that she doesn’t design singular buildings for singular clients, instead, the public is her primary client. Interestingly, her and her artist partner, Russell Rock, have a studio-based art and architecture office, and together have created “public art projects, spatial environments, and public art plans for urban centers around the US and Canada,” stated the Woodbury website. We had the chance to experience again that architecture and art aren’t two separate categories, rather they can be used in conjunction to make engaging projects. Though both sides are valid, when the topic of the public being her main client arose, I took sides with Jeanine. A building can appear to be inserted into an area and compel others to look and maybe enter inside, but in order to build/design a project in a specific community, it would be a great tool to speak with members of the community and do research, since the public will mainly be around the work. Her thoughts about preservation also stayed with me, “move slow and fix things”, because I was taught to live by that motto as well. The time we live in today doesn’t try to make things last, but instead purchases/rebuilds a newer replacement, which is wasteful and less meaningful.
