LA FUENTE DE INFORMACIÓN DE MÚSICA EXTREMA - ¡EN LÍNEA DESDE EL AÑO 2000!

DEADNIGHT se forjó en el underground de Chicago en 2003. Con sus feroces riffs de thrash de la vieja escuela, gritos de solos de guitarra y una atmósfera inquietante, el sonido ennegrecido de DEADNIGHT es realmente incomparable. Fuertemente influenciado por Sodom, Kreator y Destruction, DEADNIGHT combina la intensidad del thrash metal de la vieja escuela con la atmósfera de Bathory y Dissection.

Con el lanzamiento de Messenger of Death en 2008 (Rotting Corpse Records), DEADNIGHT ha establecido una reputación internacional como una poderosa banda de metal extremo capaz de mostrar muchos elementos diversos en su música. 2011 marcó el lanzamiento de su esfuerzo evolutivo, Riders of the Black Wind, que fue masterizado por Andy Laroque (King Diamond) en Sonic Train Studios. En 2022, después de una pausa prolongada, Canon of Irreverence fue masterizado por Dan Swanö en Unisound AB y lanzado a las masas.

Nel 1996 la febbre da blackmetal era così alta e contagiosa che infettò praticamente tutti (spesso in senso buono). Blackheim dei Katatonia evidentemente ne rimase profondamente segnato; questo lo si può capire dalle primissime foto promozionali della band, che incorporava un personalissimo mix di death, doom e black metal. Benché il loro mood fosse decadente e quasi gotico, le accordature delle chitarre erano aperte verso il blackmetal anziché gravi verso il death. Ad ogni modo sir. Blackheim nel 1993 decide di creare un progetto personale chiamato Diabolical Masquerade dove sfocia tutte le sue voglie più incontaminate di blackmetal creando una narrazione quasi teatrale, da grand-guignol; egli è il narratore di un mondo fantasy personale (un po’ alla stregua di Blashyrk degli Immortal) del quale descrive principalmente il clima freddo e invernale, le peripezie di questo viaggiatore-Sentinella, il riscatto dei mesi autunnali da regalare al mondo di Blackheim, i ricordi di battaglie svolte secoli fa ecc..

Il songwriting di tutto l’album è molto debitore delle chitarre, l’uso del tremolo quasi sempre alternato agli arpeggi ci fanno subito venire in mente i territori di Dance of December Souls ma con una decisa spinta sull’acceleratore (in tantissimi momenti è presente la doppia cassa e i blast-beat). La precisa produzione degli Unisound Studios richiama spesso i lavori del capo di casa Dan Swanö il quale, canta pure in “Under the Banner of Sentinel” prestando in modo forse un po’ goffo e decisamente 80s la voce alla Sentinella. Quindi un certo tipo di black metal fantasy e fiabesco si spoglia di qualsiasi aura satanica e violenta per assumere un tono narrativo che, grazie anche all’uso di synth, volge spesso lo sguardo all’heavy metal, ai raddoppi Maideniani di chitarra. Qualcosa di simile lo avevamo già sentito nel debutto dei Mörk Gryning e i Vittra dei Naglfar Questo è uno di quegli album che se l’avessi ascoltato più di venti anni fa probabilmente non sarebbe minimamente entrato nei miei ascolti preferiti e, forse, non lo è nemmeno ora. La mia è più una voglia di collocarlo, di dargli una giusta posizione. C’è comunque da segnalare l’evoluzione personale e schizofrenica di questo progetto, culminato con una colonna sonora di un improbabile film mai realizzato, sempre attorno alla vita del mondo dimmaginario di Blackheim.

In the absence of Daylight Dies, Mother of Graves kick ass. Where the Shadows Adorn is a brilliant melodic death/doom metal record. Highly recommended.

Grey Skies Fallen Leads ‘Procession to the Tombs’

To continue to feed your riff addiction, Doomed and Stoned is presenting the new lyric video “Procession to the Tombs” by melodic death/doom metal veterans GREY SKIES FALLEN. The song is the first single taken from the group’s forthcoming album “Cold Dead Lands.” The New York-based band will release the album independently on their own label, Xanthros Music on January 24th, 2020. It is the fifth album in the band’s 23-year career.

“Procession to the Tombs” is a telling title. It forecasts society’s imminent doom. YOD Multimedia-Metal Video Maker visualized humanity’s downfall in a post-apocalyptic setting of cities in ruin where humans lives under the guise of gas masks and crows flock to the stench of blood.

Grey Skies Fallen are currently a three-piece. “Procession to the Tombs” was written when the band consisted of five members in 2015. It is the sole holdover from that period. The ending was lengthened for a grander, doomier unfurling. As a three-piece, Grey Skies Fallen no longer use keyboards, which resulted in less atmosphere, but heavier, more aggressive compositions, while still presenting lush guitar melodies and morose moods.

Tom Anderer’s bass and Sal Gregory’s drums form an immense wall of sound. With a running time over seven-plus minutes, “Procession to the Tombs” is quite progressive. Medium paced trudges and down tempo dirges outline forlorn, ringing guitar harmonies accentuated by soulful solos. Although Rick Habeeb presents haunting clean vocals, the band maintains an aggressive stance through agonized harsh vocals through the majority of the song.

Cold Dead Lands was recorded by Keith Moore and produced by Grey Skies Fallen. Dan Swanö (Nightingale, ex-Edge of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath) mixed and mastered the album at his Unisound Studio. Travis Smith (Opeth, Nevermore, Katatonia) created the artwork. Dan Gargiulo (Revocation, Artificial Brain) and Will Smith (Buckshot Facelift, Artificial Brain, Afterbirth) appear as guests.

MEDIEVAL DEMON were formed in Greece in 1993 by brothers Lord Apollyon and Sirokous. Necrochrist and Muerte joined the band and entered the glorious Storm Studio to record their first demo tape, "Night of The Infernal Lords."
