ppl saying oh well ruby/Meg/sultry conniving harlot of the week aren't WOMEN they're just unknowable evil entities POSSESSING women so it's not bad to call THEM whores is quite interesting to me. bc I think a big reason the trope of sexy evil girlboss is so prevalent in spn is bc unlike the pure vulnerable mother-wives destined for the fridge (more common in the early seasons but relevant throughout), the hellbitches are capable of violence and cruelty and strangeness, these are women who aren't REALLY women which means you're allowed to hit them and they're allowed to hit you back, without tarnishing the image of the poor sweet blonde gf/mommy we have to Protect to keep the wheels of heroism turning. but like. these characters, (ruby, Meg, abaddon) move through the story wearing women's faces. they experience misogynistic humiliations. they enter heterosexual relationships. ultimately it doesn't matter to the camera whether they're made of black smoke or not. when Dean calls ruby a whore for the millionth time, that's a gendered exchange!!! - the show is saying something ABOUT WOMEN.

I need to know that everyone knows how ridiculous of a statment this is. How absolutely farcical.

The UK has thousands of actors. The majority of whom are in Equity because that's the UK's Actors Union. Equity has 50 thousand members. Granted not all performers are screen actors and even less are older women. But thats still A LOT OF ACTORS.

Yes the UK has like 20 actors with star power and 50 who get all the big roles. But there are so many people here trying to make a living off their art. Many of whom would kill to have a small role on Doctor Who or similar.

There are lots of actors who would fit the description of all of Susan Twist's characters. Especially considering most are small parts with minimal screen time/lines.

Doctor who is not short on actors. They are not isolated. They have experienced casting crew with lots and lots and LOTS of connections. There will be dozens of agencies scrambling to get their actors into auditions for every role made available!

The idea they couldn't find 4 different older women to play roles with only a few lines is absolutely, hilariously, patently false.

This is possibly the funniest excuse he could have EVER made okay. I need everyone to appreciate that. This isn't "haha probably a lie but possibly believable". This is the bold faced lie of a guy who isn't telling anyone SHIT.

The Joost Klein Incident. The Dutch contestant, Joost Klein, has been disqualified by EBU, hours before Eurovision 2024's Grand Final, after Swedish police investigated 'backstage incident' in which the artist had allegedly made 'unlawful threats' against a female production team member. This last-minute disqualification is unprecedented in Eurovision's 68 year long history. And has occurred in the midst of the controversy surrounding Israel's participation in Eurovision after qualifying into Grand Final under the shadow of the ongoing Israel-Hamas War. Despite EBU statements that this incident did not involve any other artists or delegations, rumours have been speculating that this may be connected to Israel delegates. Joost Klein's entry, Europapa is one of the favourites to win the 2024 Contest and their sudden disqualification has caused outrage among fans, the Dutch delegation and other participating nations.

UPDATE: The Dutch broadcaster, AVROTROS has released statement explaining the incident between Joost Klein and a female camera operator. An agreement had been made prior to his Semi-Final 2 appearance to not film Joost Klein after his performance. This was not respected. After asking repeatedly to not film him, Joost Klein made 'threatening movement' towards the female camera operator but did not touch her. This then led to EBU disqualifying him. AVROTROS finds the penalty very heavy and disproportionate. The investigation is still ongoing.
