I think the Uncle Marvel concept was amazing. Just going off of wikipedia, this weird old man just pretends to be Captain Marvel's Uncle hoping to get famous from them. Captain Marvel/Shazam sees through him immediately, but still humours him and lets him accompany him. That's such a weird concept, but I love it. It's so funny that I can't not love it. Just this powerless old man pretending he's a godlike superhero. That's genius.

It's interesting how things change in over time and in adaptations (Marvels).

Looking at some of the old comics, and of course, Billy, Mary, and Freddy did not spend much time together at all at first. Freddy and Mary were spinoff characters in other titles, and you could easily perceive them as just not very close. Obviously I know later the Marvel Family title would come out (but I haven't gotten to those yet).

I also plan on checking to see when Billy and Morris got so close. They certainly weren't the day the met, but I don't know if it happened overnight or only developed later.

Dudley wasn't used many time in the old comics, really, but he was used in adaptations and Edgewise wasn't. I'm not sure if Tawny and Dudley ever met (haven't gotten to Tawny issues yet on this re-read), but they are buds in some later versions.

Do Freddy's stories about poverty survive later on (I'm reading though Mary's Wow Comics at the moment) - after he moves into Mrs. Wagner's boarding house? There's a large tonal range over the years these comics were published and in the different titles.

I'm trying to nail down which parts work well together as whole and make a reasonable narrative for my headcanon reboot - I'm a little concerned that I find it easier to work in an anthropomorphic talking tiger than Dudley. But classic Dudley is so associated with company, the company's associated with money, and that complicates things. Plus, if you'll forgive me for saying, right now he's still just the same joke over and over. Kinda feel similarly about Brian and Pinky (so past tired of the lack-of-food jokes). And it would have been nice if Pinky had had a real name (I haven't noticed one, anyway).

So here's a half-assed Idea for that community post

I couldn't recall correctly but I remember Golden Age Billy would encourage children to stay away from joining criminal gangs and encouraging then to become good citizens, I'd like to think that he'd personally fund these kid's education with the amount of money he makes on WHIZ radio if their situation is desperate enough

If he has too much on his hands and couldn't help these kid criminals, He'd send them to either Uncle Marvel as a worker for shazam Inc charity, or Freddy because he is used to converting former kid criminals into Newsboys [See the case with Jolly rogers], this is usually Billy's second option.

so yeah, that's all the half ass ideas I have :p

Billy casually making the lives of his fellow kids better🥰. I have something like this in the fic I’m writing, but instead of making them newsboys, Billy has them as informants or assistants to various magic lands.

Anyway, Dudley would be ecstatic to have so many willing workers for Shazam inc and Freddy is just in his element with the newsboys conversion!

I was too busy worrying about Billy that I forgot about uncle dudley's safety. Oh no-

To be fair Billy is in a LOT more danger.

Uncle Dudley is going through it for sure, but he's not being actively tortured. It's more of a self-destructive sort of situation because of what he knows (and doesn't know). That's kind of cryptic, but you'll see what I mean soon enough.

see i thought billy's school janitor tracking his apartment down and helping him cover up the fact that he lives alone was already kind of a creepy origin for dudley but then i read the classics and he just shows up at mary's house one day pretending to be her uncle and that's just even weirder.

Huh. Learn something new every day. I go to look up DC animated movies and shows, I see what I missed since I dipped out of that sphere in 2015 or so. And then I learn Sean Astin is now one of the voice actors for Shazam. And that John Astin (Gomez Addams in the 60s, and The Riddler in one or two episodes of the 60s Batman) got to do Uncle Marvel for one of the animated tv shows. And just...wow. I can actually approve of that. John Astin always seems like a great guy, and I can actually sort of see him doing that role well (even if i haven't actually watched the performance). And I also just love that Sean Astin wasn't even his biological son, but John Astin just stepped up and raised him as his own son when he married Patty Duke. Both of them are great actors.

Would be awesome if Billy had to go on an epic quest and find twelve worthy people to be the Champions of the Olympians and wield their powers on Earth. Obligatory Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman guest staring issues. Other, some very obscure, characters from the DC pantheon stop in too. Ends with Billy and the New Olympians gathering on the Rock of Eternity.
