About guns…
Maybe I love guns too much.
Here I will tell you about Wesker's guns, and there's a bonus at the bottom.
In re5 Wesker uses two guns. One is his main one, this is Samurai Edge, the second is a backup, and he is unknown. But I assumed it was a modified Beretta 92FS or Beretta M9A1 (leaning towards the former).
Tumblr media
And...
Wesker's spare gun is only used in the airplane scene, where he has two different guns for some reason. Funny moment: during the game, when he shoots at the player from Samurai Edge, this is his regular version without modifications. But it is in the airplane that this gun has a laser designator. A mistake?
Tumblr media
In re4r Wesker uses the XM96E1 gun, it's a modified version of the Beretta 96 Vertec Inox. I originally thought the backup 92FS from re5 was the prototype for the XM96E1, but upon closer inspection I realized it wasn't.
Tumblr media
In re4og, Wesker's weapon is a standard handgun, which is also available to Leon and has the name "Silver Ghost", Wesker uses it in Umbrella Chronicles complete with a silencer. In the remake, this gun was changed and is now called "SG-09R", Wesker cannot use it, he was lucky enough to get something of his own, his XM96E1. Although it's a pity that it's not Samurai Edge. The game versions of the Silver Ghost and SG-09R are based on the real H&K USP, with the addition of parts from several other H&K guns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a misconception that Wesker's XM96E1 is one of the prototypes for the final version of the "Albert System Weapon" guns, but this is not the case. The guns from this series (Samurai Edge AWModel01) are based on the Beretta 92FS, while the XM96E1 is based on the Beretta 96 Vertec Inox. There are similarities, and it is the similarities that make people get confused about these guns.
Bonus: during the Re Showcase (January 2021), the first version of the Deluxe Edition was shown, in which we can see that initially "Samurai Edge AWModel01" was called "Albert01 Chris". By the release of the game, it was renamed Samurai Edge AWModel01 to match the name from re7. However… this is a strange phenomenon. They planned to change the name of this pistol for the re8, hinting that it mattered, but then they abandoned it. What could it mean?

Good morning. This is what fascism looks like.
Lucian K. Truscott IV
Oct 26, 2024
It crept in overnight, while we were sleeping.  Fascism showed its face not with jackboots and concentration camps…not yet, anyway…but rather as just another day in Capitalist America.  Two major media companies, the Washington Post and the LA Times, made decisions to capitulate to the man they fear will be elected president before a single vote has been counted.  They decided not to run editorials endorsing their preferred candidate for president, Kamala Harris, because the owners of the companies, Jeff Bezos and Patrick Soon-Shiong, are afraid if they anger Donald Trump, he will hit them where it hurts:  In their pocketbooks.
Bezos sees himself as particularly vulnerable to the wrath of Donald Trump.  Before he left office in 2021, Trump appointed a puppet to run the United States Postal Service (USPS):  Louis DeJoy, a long-time Republican fund-raiser and major Trump contributor who was appointed as one of three deputy finance chairmen of the Republican National Committee shortly after Trump took office in 2017.  The USPS prioritizes package delivery for Amazon and sets the price it pays for the service.  Trump has threatened Bezos with jacking up his Amazon delivery prices before, in 2018.  The Postmaster General was then Megan Brennan, appointed during the Obama administration, who resisted Trump’s demand to raise delivery prices, but such resistance is unlikely to happen if Trump is elected and DeJoy is there to carry out his wishes.
This is the way it happens.  An autocrat like Donald Trump, with his history of impulsive decisions and threats against perceived enemies, has two billionaires cowering in fear, and he didn’t even have to pick up the phone.
Fascism is not an all-at-once transformation.  We’ve already had our Brownshirt day, on Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump’s MAGA army stormed the Capitol waving Confederate and Nazi flags and assaulting police officers and attempting to hunt down and kill Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence, all of it, we now know, with Trump cheering them on from the White House.  Fascism uses symbols – MAGA this time, Swastika last time – to rally followers, and then it feeds them fear and lies and the demonization of minorities and others perceived as not like us.
I don’t even know that you can name the period of fascism we’re in right now.  Giving it a name doesn’t matter.  What matters is that it is happening right in front of our eyes, and little if nothing is being done about it, other than fascism finally being called out by political leaders such as Kamala Harris and other Democrats, and some news organizations have at last crossed the Rubicon of using the “F” word of fascism and the “H” word of Hitler in the same sentences with Donald Trump.
What can we do?  We can all vote for Kamala Harris and whatever Democrat is running for whatever office in your district and state.
Journalists everywhere, but particularly at the Washington Post and LA Times, have a crucial role to play right now.  It is journalism about Donald Trump’s crimes and political extremism that has revealed him as not just a totalitarian politician, but as a man consumed with a fascist lust for absolute power.  It has been people like Timothy Snyder and Heather Cox Richardson who have put Trump’s rise in historical perspective and compared what is happening right now in this country to what happened nearly a century ago in Germany with the rise of Hitler, when German corporate titans of the day bowed down to him in fear.
Now the reporters and editors at the Post and the LA Times can help show the world what contemporary fascism looks like by refusing to countenance the craven subservience of their owners.  There are leaders at the Washington Post, in particular Bob Woodward and Eugene Robinson and David Ignatius and Ruth Marcus and Karen Tumulty, who can show the way for their colleagues by leading a newspaper-wide walk out.  With what we are seeing every day from Donald Trump, they can call it a “Strike Against Fascism,” or “A Call to Arms.”
You might accuse me as a freelancer of not taking seriously the possibility that people at both papers might lose their jobs for leading or participating in a walk-out.  But people have already resigned in protest at both papers.  This isn’t a time to show fear.  It’s a time to stand up to power. The writers and editors have a lot to lose, but they have already been treated as expendable, and they’ve been told they are in danger of losing their jobs anyway.
The guy Bezos put in as publisher of the Post, former Murdoch hitman Will Lewis, bluntly told Post staffers when he was appointed, “We are losing large amounts of money. Your audience has halved in recent years. People are not reading your stuff. I can’t sugarcoat it anymore.”   He could have been talking as well to the staffs of the New York Times and the three major television networks and cable news like CNN and MSNBC.  All of them are in an existential crisis at this crucial moment in our history.  Newspapers are closing across the country.  Television networks and cable news shows are hemorrhaging viewers.
The arrival of Bezos and Soon-Shiong to “rescue” two major American newspapers has shown us how hollow were any hopes that billionaires will or even can make a difference in today’s economic and political climate.
But workers can make a difference.  With ten days to go until the election, let’s see if a day with no newspaper in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles can make a difference.  Maybe a strike will teach reporters and editors and the rest of us that we are beyond the point of being able to affect our lives and the lives of others.  Or maybe rallying against the fascism that has been stealing our national politics will help to send more people to the polls to vote for Kamala Harris on November 5.
I do know this:  When you are bullied, you STAND UP or you lose your self-respect and your dignity and your right to life. The fascism of Donald Trump would take away all three.

Apologies to my comics friends here but this is ridiculous:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just the photo for folks who like to ZOOM!
I've been handling guns since I was 6yrs old. These are obviously not real pistols. You can tell by the screw holes in the frames, the mold/assembly lines, the undersized magwells, and the VERY clear airsoft magazines. It's a specific mix of contemporary guns too, including at least 7 H&K USPS, which cost about $1,200 each, assorted Glocks, "tactical" 1911s, and generic S&W/ Beretta autos. They're some of the most common airsoft guns. The guns that aren't obvious plastic reproductions show no wear, and "custom" features that you wouldn't see on say, smuggled military weapons being carried around by local militia in a region that is absolutely littered with cheaper older Soviet hardware. Even looted American weapons would more likely include a bunch of very beat up Beretta M9s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus a random Winchester 92? Is John Wayne's ghost backing HAMAS?
This is my favorite part though:
Tumblr media
THAT appears to be a PILE of Knights Armament PDWs and only KAC PDWs. That gun is an "experimental" rifle w/ a $3k price tag. It chambers a proprietary 6x35mm round or 300 Blackout. Not standard ammo for any major military on Earth, making it a terrible choice for guerilla fighters. 500rds of 300blk will cost you as much as a basic S&W M&P (a civilian M4 clone) in .556 if you can find it in the US. The KAC PDW is also a popular airsoft rifle since it's rare, expensive, and dripping with tacticool features. There are almost certainly more airsoft versions than real ones in the world, but I can't say for sure because I can't find a number produced online.
There are NO AKs, M4s, M16s, FN FALs- guns that might conceivably be available in numbers for insurgent militia in the region. It's not uncommon to see fighters in the Middle East still fielding WW2-era weapons, but the only other long gun I can even try to ID on that table is essentially a cowboy gun! 🤠
A refugee camp had a baker's dozen of these though. 👇
Tumblr media
A niche gun, so unused in any real number that the sum total of its service history on Wikipedia (gun guys religiously, lovingly maintain gun Wikis) is this:
Tumblr media
There are at least 13 of them in this picture, so either that's nigh $40k sharing a table with rusted hunting guns and toys or ALSO TOYS!
Tumblr media
(I still prefer LEGO)
10 minutes of searching on my phone was enough to prove this shit isn't real. And I am very very sleepy today. Writing this post took longer than tracking down that rifle by its features. I know this might not be as obvious to people who haven't handled real guns but for anyone remotely familiar with them, this looks like a joke.
This makes American cops posing around a ziploc bag of weed look good by comparison. That weed might be real.
This is extremely lazy misinformation work. It's a pathetically low effort ruse from an army that could easily have just planted real weapons. The only reason someone would post this for the world to see and claim it's real is if they're very, very stupid, think we are, or are well beyond trying because they know they hold a position of such untouchable privilege that they're cool doing the bare minimum of covering their asses. Like the cops!
All of those options make me real sad. So I'm going to just post this and never check on the comments.

Birthplace: Carlsbad, NM
Current Location: Tucson, AZ
Nationality: Scottish-American
Physical description: Normal build, Blue eyes, (White, sunburnt skin), Shaven hair, Two scars on right forearm, Scar near upper abdomen.
Bio: It would seem that he's done with being a petty criminal. For now.
Just a normal dude like everybody else like him in his country.
No traumatic past, just a normal, carefree kid.
His parents divorced in late 2013, but they're still on good terms.
He's a bit Introverted, and as such is usually silent and doesn't feel all that comfortable out in public.
He considers himself an Agnostic.
Sometimes communicates using hand gestures or body language.
Doesn't like speaking in length, but can if he wants to.
Not a person to let bygones be bygones.
This particular Henry hails from a timeline where he hated toppats and other associated organized criminal groups.
Has substantial knowledge of other timelines, even remembers experiencing a temporal phenomenon well before the botched bank robbery attempt.
Frequently has vivid dreams (or nightmares) about bizarre things, and sometimes about things in the past or the other (less fortunate) timelines.
Has a diary to write down whatever happens in a day or what he's just experienced.
Has been keeping diaries well since mid 2016.
Knows about his extraordinary luck.
Doesn't know how many superntural abilities he possesses.
His knowledge about what happened in those timelines has made him pessimistic, a bit depressed, and hate himself for existing.
Has contemplated on the possibility that he might be living in a simulation, but has since dropped such "bogus crackpot conspiracy bullshit".
A light smoker. One pack is enough to last 2 weeks, and he rarely smokes.
His notoriety has died down since the beginning of 2019.
Sometimes asked if he is the real Henry Stickmin by passing pedestrians.
Has accounts on Reddit, Twitter and YouTube, all under the alias HS1214 and Twitter handle TheHenryHStickmin.
Has a close relationship with Ellie through their shared hardships.
He and Ellie bought a home together using both of their Gov't' monetary compensation.
Sold his old home too.
Both have lived normal daily lives, so far.
A novice home cook.
Has a large amount of friends/accomplices/confidants, ranging from high school and university classmates, members of the Goverment/Armed Forces, members of several police departments, and even an ex-CCC contractor, as well as from countries as far and obscure as Honduras, Australia, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Turkiye, etc.
Knows a lot of languages, most notably Spanish, Scottish Gaelic, French, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, German, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Russian to name a few.
Keeps a roster of his notable confidants/accomplices on paper.
Knows Charles and Dave only to some degree, despite having met them on more than one occasion.
Never ashamed of being a former petty criminal.
Has an H&K USP Compact and an M16A2.
Likes wearing the same set of basic clothing every day (T-shirt, Trousers, Boots)
Recently started wearing boots more often.
Has a taste for clothing, loves thrifting and milsurp gear.
Sometimes, he will wear all black, balaclava included.
Other than his scooter, he also owns a Honda CR-V, which both he and Ellie drive.
Keeps all of his trinkets somwehere in his bedroom, even his Teleporter.
Puts some of his "spoils of war" (a number of various items from previous criminal acts) on display in his parts of house in a show of bravado. Including an empty money bag and the bumper of a police cruiser, license plate included.
Now just trying to live a more righteous life and stay away from crime.
Watched one too much news on TV and is probably plotting something daring against the remnants of what was once the Toppat Clan.
At the same time he only wishes to live a normal life and probably reverse his past mistakes temporally.
Doesn't know whether the CCC is onto him or not.

having a better day today. i woke up early, earlier than my alarm, and spent the morning listening to an audiobook (gay cowboys! "His Fresh Start Cowboy") and knitting.
my copy of Salt for H got here last night. i'm excited to go through it and mark my favorite poems.
this morning i got dressed and went to PT, arrived on time. i wasn't rushing like i normally am. my pain was at a 4 when we started and it dropped down to a 3 afterwards. i can't express how grateful i am for PT and my PT specifically.
after that, i stopped at starbies as a treat. i also forgot my water, so i needed something to sip while i was out. i made my way to Michael's and bought 1 yard of fabric to make something for H when i see the gals on friday. then i went to the dollar store to buy candy for K's care package. i may have also bought some kit-kats for myself. >_>
now i am home, in pajamas, feeling good. my cousin got a job interview and he used the resume i made for him when he applied. KP got a 2nd interview with the library and i made the connection for her with the HR person. i called the aging/caregivers services place to see if i can be my dad's paid caregiver. and i ordered more (free!) shipping boxes from USPS to get ready for the holidays.
today is a much better day than yesterday and i am super grateful for that. tomorrow i have to take my dad to a doctor's appt, but that's the only thing we have on the books.
okay, time to write and/or knit. i'm wearing my finger splints, so everything i do depends on how i work with them on. i need to have them on at least 2-4 hours a day. i'm on hour 1. T_T
i hope y'all are having a good day, too. <3

CW: Deep gun nerdery, James Bond.
So, a question someone posed recently was "what gun do you think Bond will have in the next film."
Given we'll be on a new Bond actor, and so potentially a redone take on Bond, we have some options.
I think it comes down to which Bond we get. Because we've had several different aspects of the character.
James Bond, actual practical spy guy.
In the first couple of movies, Bond's equipment is very grounded. The PPK, and it's slightly bigger brother the PP, was at the time a very reasonable, practical pistol for people who needed a compact, concealable sidearm.
And following that logic, the most likely choice would be...the Glock 19. A solid, dependable pistol of a type that is issued to a lot of forces who need a compact, concealable sidearm.
Other candidates would be: one of the other Glock compacts (G26, 43, 43X or 48), the Sig 225/8/9. the H&K USP compact, CZ p-07, or any number of other compact carry pistols.
But my top tip still goes to the G19.
But we haven't really seen that Bond in years, so......
James Bond, Gadget guy
Bond likes gadgets, and that should be reflected in his pistol right?
Well, at that point, we're going for gadget factor.
Now, realistically, I don't think it really matters what the base pistol is, because most stuff will just kinda look like a pistol. The cool inbuilt stuff like rotary barrel systems, is a bit too gun nerd only. Unless he gets something really wild like a Laugo Alien (Which seems unlikely, as a large full size competition pistol, although it would be cool as hell)
So we may well go back to that Glock 19. BUT.
Unlike the above, where he would have a very plain pistol, this pistol is going to be all manner of tricked out. Some kind of compact light laser unit. Or even some kind of underbarrel launcher a'la kingsman. A micro red dot sight, or even some kind of movie magic thermal/night sight. A compensator that still lets him use a supressor. Maybe even something more wild like fingerprint recognition or ammo counters.
James Bond, Luxury goods haver
James Bond has expensive, luxury goods. Fancy cars, high end watches, expensive suits.
So his sidearm should reflect that yes?
At this point, I think we can sidestep pretty much anything polymer framed, it's just not fancy. We are very much in the world of machined steel and alloys.
The downside is that this is predominantly the world of fancy, custom/semi-custom 1911 variants. Any one of which frankly blows, being an extremely American thing.
Outside of that, I can't really think of anyone doing anything from scratch that suits. Most of the other really high-end pistols are over large, because they're more competition pistols than carry guns.
Maybe something custom modified from a more standard pistol like a tuned P225/8/9, CZ75 compact or something.
But, in my opinion, we won't actually get to see any of these three bonds. We'll see:
James Bond, "icon"
James Bond hasn't actually really been a character in years. He's a vehicle for nostalgia. He's a property. A formula. An "ICON".
And James Bond carries a Walther PPK.
Doesn't matter that it's extremely out of date as a practical sidearm. That it's been superceeded basically everywhere by more modern pistols, and that as far as I can tell, the only reason they still make them is, at least in part, because it's "the James Bond pistol". Same as why we keep seeing him drive the Aston Martin DB 5.
Because we live in the world of remakes, and of vicious fan backlash to actual fucking changes being made to established cannons.

After seeing this post, I decided to use my last two braincells to share my thoughts.
After an hour spent on wikipedia's list of pistols, I eventually decided that Chuuya's gun is most likely a Heckler & Koch USP Expert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
H&K USP is semi-automatic and uses 9x19mm Parabellum bullets (aka 9mm), which are known to be pretty deadly and can penetrate the skull just fine.
Now, shots to the head are kinda unpredictable and surviving them is more often than not a lottery. While I tried my best to find out what would've most likely happened in Dazai's situation, I wasn't able to find much because of how unusual it is.
Tumblr media
(I tried my best to align it as accurately as I could)
The part of the brain we want to look out for is the brain stem, which controls autonomic activities such as heartbeat and respiration among others. While in the picture above the straight trajectory of the bullet just barely misses the top of the brain stem, the actual damage will look much worse if the bullet goes through (Look up ballistic gel tests for reference) and most likely will injure the brain stem. If Dazai survives the injury, he can suffer from locked-in syndrome, memory loss, paralysis, severe breathing problems, strokes or brain death. If bleeding in the brain happens, Dazai will need to undergo an immediate operation. 25% of people make a full recovery through surgery and rehabilitation while 30% will die from their injuries.
Now to the reason I came up with this in the first place: there's no exit wound. Meaning the bullet is still inside. Bouncing around. Scrambling his brains as we speak. The skull is very cramped, belive it or not, and a bullet bouncing around in there does not do it any favours. The damage from the permanent cavity (the bullet track) is bad enough on its own, but the damage temporary cavity makes things a lot worse, as the shockwaves cause often irreversible damage. It doesn't help that Dazai jerks his head around quite a lot after being shot in it.
Tumblr media
(Also yes, staying conscious after being shot in the head is possible, it has happened to real people before, head shots are unpredictable.)
If Dazai is very lucky however, the whole brain stem injury can be avoided. You see, the bullet trajectory I showed you is inaccurate. This is due to the fact that the skull is a hard, curved surface, which can affect the actual trajectory of the bullet. With a bit of luck, the bullet will avoid the brain stem, which will then suffer minimal damage (or yk it could bounce the other way and destroy his brain stem completely jkjk unless). The problem of it bouncing around and scrambling his brains still remains tho. Plus hemorrhages. Also the smaller the bullet, the higher the chance of scrambled brains.
The reason Dazai's case is so hard to predict is because of how unusual it is. First of all the distance. Literally who shoots like that to kill, also it will burn your flesh. The effective firing range of H&K USP is 50m. Then there's the fact that he was shot in the forehead. The frontal bone is considered to be one of the strongest parts of the skull, with the pterion being the weakest. Most of the gunshot wound tests focuse on the rest of the body, while the tests that have been done for the skull focus on the weak parts. Last but not least, Chuuya, hun, why are you using a gun in the first place. You can shoot bullets by throwing them. What do you need the gun for.
TLDR: Either dead or brain damaged imo
You guys I hate to break it to you but if there's no damage on the wall from the head bullet then there's no exit wound, which means the bullet is still inside, probably scrambling Dazai's brains

Hello there. I have a question, or rather a doubt, regarding long arms specifically. Are bolt-action rifles more powerful than, say, semi-automatic ones since they use the entirety of the energy to propel the bullet and send it downrange instead of redirecting the gasses to cycle the action and chamber the next round? And would it be useful or feasible at all to have a precision rifle that could work as a semiauto/straight-pull bolt-action by choosing its operation at will? Excellent work, BTW
If I just take the question, “are bolt action rifles more powerful than semi-auto rifles?” Not really, but that comes with a lot of caveats.
You do lose power from the gas tap. But, the power loss from a semi-auto rifle can be more than compensated for by mounting a slightly longer barrel. More than that, and this is really important to remember, it doesn't matter. If you take a high power rifle round fired from the next zip code over, it will not matter if it was coming from a bolt or a semi-auto, it will still wreck your day. When you're discussing the amount of power behind a bullet, you're really worried about how far you can throw a chunk of metal, it's not like the gun does less damage on impact.
Similarly, bolt-action rifles often have a reputation for being more accurate, and again, this is kind of true, but it's a little misleading. As with the power loss from bolt to semi, the accuracy loss on a precision semi-auto not particularly significant.
The central differences that results in larger discrepancies, is that, with all things being equal, bolt action rifles are lighter, and cheaper than semi-auto ones. (Technically, the, “cheaper,” benefit comes from them being mechanically simpler, which also results in a more reliable rifle, as there's less that can go wrong.) This means, you can mount a heavier barrel, which in turn can support higher pressure rounds. (Either, larger caliber, or just hotter variants of the same rounds.)
For example, the Barret M82 is a semi-auto .50 cal anti material rifle, it weighs about 30lbs. The Barret M95 is a bolt-action equivalent, and weighs slightly over 20lbs. And, when mounted with their standard 29” barrels, they have roughly the same effective range (slightly over a mile.)
While you're sitting here thinking about the relative accuracy and the value of a bolt action, remember that the record for longest range sniper kill set in 1967 using a scoped Browning M2 (at 2500yds) stood for over 35 years until it was unseated by someone using a Tac-50.
There's a real danger with firearms in thinking that the relative differences between gun designs are far more extreme than they actually are. In the Vietnam War, a sniper sitting on a machine gun, set a world record for their long range kill that stood until 2002. When we you're seeing someone saying, “x is more reliable than y,” or, “x is more accurate than y,” understand that these are usually incredibly minor differences.
Now, when you start talking, specifically, about sniper rifles, then you get into a situation where those tiny accuracy and power differences start to become more significant. When you're looking at sending a round more than a mile away, yes, an almost imperceptible difference in accuracy can become the difference between hitting or missing a human sized target. Of course, at those ranges, inclement weather, and the rotation of the Earth can throw off your aim, so there is a lot to consider, and there is a reason why the Tac-50, in spite of being a bolt action, is still a fifteen-thousand dollar gun.
As for your solution, those exist. Technically in two different forms, with very different intentions behind them.
What you're not talking about (nor explicitly interested in) are semi-automatic firearms designed with the ability to lock the bolt closed. The Makarov PB and some prototypes for the Mk23 SOCOM (which would eventually become the H&K USP) come to mind as immediate examples. Notably, these are both handguns, intended for clandestine use, and the reason the bolt can be locked closed, and then manually cycled by the user, is to reduce the noise made by the pistol when firing. (As a general rule, it's harder to suppress a handgun, than a rifle, because of the shorter barrel. You need to deal with more unburnt gas trying to escape), so locking the bolt, and preventing gas from venting out the action is one place you can cut the sound dramatically. I could swear there's a late Soviet era rifle with a similar design, but I can't remember what it is (and I'm relatively sure it's not one of the 9x39s. Though, I might be thinking of an AS Val or VSS Vintorez prototype variant that never made it into production.)
Hybrid-semi auto/bolt action rifles were experimented with in the first half of the 20thcentury. The only specific example I can point to off hand, is the SIG SK-46. This was a semi-automatic rifle, with a visible bolt. When the bolt was lowered, the rifle operated semi-automatically, while rotating the bolt up would lock the bolt... into the bolt... yeah, conventional firearms terminology stumbles a bit here, because most guns don't have two separate bolts. So, bare with me. Locking the bolts together would, engage a gas cutoff, and at that point the rifle would function as a straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
My understanding is that there were Italian and Swedish experiments with hybrid-semi/bolt action rifles, and I suspect there were other experiments with this idea, that are far more obscure.
I don't have any concrete explanation for why these rifles never saw widespread use, but I can guess. Remember that two of the major advantages for the Bolt-action rifles were their lower weight and mechanical simplicity. In the case of the SK-46, it's actually more complex than a contemporary semi-auto rifle. So, it amplifies the disadvantages of a semi-auto rifle of its day, without really replicating the benefits of a bolt-action. It's important to remember, there were less than 20 SK-46 prototypes made, so I'm looking at a video of Ian McCollum taking one apart, somewhat obviously, I've never even seen one in person. (And, judging by the content of the video, it sounds like this is one case where he doesn't have much background either.)
These hybrid rifles existed, but as far as I know, none really made it out of experimental testing. As I said earlier, I can guess why, but as far as I've ever seen, most of these experiments weren't particularly well documented publicly. This suggests, to me, that the experiments did not provide any meaningful value, and were quietly scrapped.
As a fun aside, if you're a sniper, you probably do not want a straight-pull bolt-action. The reason is, these have a bad habit of the bolt kicking into your face if you try to cycle it while maintaining a sight picture. You need to pull your head away from the rifle to cycle it, meaning you lose sight on the target. (Or, you can let the bolt bash your teeth in. That's technically an option as well.)
The short answer is that, first the differences aren't that extreme, and second the hybrid rifles did exist, but never made it out of prototypes.

Fantasy Seattle Subway in the style of the New York City Subway.
by u/TheDogPill
This map I created is of a fantasy Seattle metro area subway in the style of New York's metro. When I say style I mean in both the map style and the way the subway lines have main trunks that go through the downtown area of the city, branches that extend into the suburbs, and heavy interlining to create many different interesting service patterns.
NYC is my home city and it has always been my favorite subway system. The ability to have say the E service to be rerouted via the sixth avenue line at any time when there are service disruptions is something that really only the NYC subway can do regularly due to how interlined the system is. Not only that, but I always loved how detailed the map is, showing all the lines and services in bright colors and even including things like roads and other geography.
This map is heavy inspired if not almost completely identical to the style of the NYC subway map. I kept most aspects of it while left out a few things that I found weren't necessary. I also made it "better" overall since I found parts of the NYC subway map to be quite sloppy if you look close enough. I would say that the map I made has anywhere between 95% and 99% accuracy to the style.
As for why I chose Seattle, I found that its geography was very similar to New York's in that the city is surrounded on many sides by water which is always more fun to draw maps with than cities like London with a single river defining the geography. This a map of an alternative universe where Seattle grew to have a population as large as New York's and started building their subway around the same time. Because of this, the subway far extends outside the city limits to other towns like Bellevue, Redmond, and Issaquah.
I don't have much for a history for this network but I believe it went something like this. The first subway company, the West Seattle Railway, opened their first lines which are the modern day A, B, and C lines. A rival company, the East Seattle Railway, opened their first lines, the modern J, M, N and the Seattle portion of the K lines. The two competed and opened more lines as time went on. The WSR opened the Bellevue Railway which now consists of the E, F, and G lines east of Lake Washington. The ESR meanwhile opened the southern portions of the L, M, N, and P lines and also built the first outer-city line, the Mercer Island or H line from Sand Point to Mercer Island. They eventually ran out of money and the city government took over and began operating the railways under one company known as the Lake Washington Subway. The LSW also opened new lines during this time like the yellow Q, R, and S lines and the purple U and V lines. The city went through many hardships going into the latter half of the 20th century and new construction slowed down. Recent construction projects include the K tunnel to Bellevue connecting with the Route 520 line, the E and H extension south to Renton, and the Bellevue Way connector project which has the new W line run from Downtown to Issaquah using the new subway track to the I-90 expressway subway.
That is pretty much all I have to say on this map. I worked very hard and long on it and if you have any comments then please say them below. I will also leave links to higher quality versions of my map to view and download below. Thank you.

2020.08.26 Kaito: After streaming the gameplay of "Detroit become human" on my channel, I started wanting to watch/read stuff involving androids, so I started watching "Mahou sensei Negima" S: wwwwww you linked it like that? K: And I started reading a manga called "Ponkotsu ponko", a robot maid manga, and also "Boku no tsuma ni wa kanjou ga nai (my wife doesn't have feelings) " S: wwwwww you've sort of... Develop a taste for this... Introducing manga and stuff K: I've actually been doing nothing but read manga, recently, they're soo interesting S: *searching up about the two manga* Ahhh I thought this was interesting! K: It was sooo good, the reason why I am always reading manga is that... A lot of our recordings are done in smaller groups, with social distancing S: Yeah K: So the recording duration becomes really short S: Yes K: We'll end up having 1-2 hour breaks S: Breaks yeah K: In that 1-2 hours I can either go home or wait in my car, I'm always torn between those two S: Ahhh having a car is so convenient K: It's convenient but... Makes you want to go home too S: ahaha K: So I realised that once I start reading manga, time passes really quickly, so I like finished reading "Negima" and "UQ Holder!" S: hahahahaha, that's quite many volumes! K: I think there were nearly 60 volumes S: hahahaha, that's super fast! You're so addicted K: hahahahaha, mannn, manga is great! Japanese manga! S: No doubt about that! Ah yeah we should do a show where we just talk about manga for 30mins K: We totally could Writer: You're already doing it! --- K: Please stay in your air conditioned room and read manga! The important part is the air condition! S: that's really. Important! K: It's our lifeline --- S: My favourite Pocari Sweat has actually released a drink around 2 years ago, that cools your body from the inside, but I haven't tried it. It has something to do with the osmotic pressure, it cools you down from the inside once you drink it K: Amazing! S: It's not recommended to freeze the normal pocari Sweat drink, I don't know the details but the melting of the molecules won't be homogeneous, so the best way to absorb them by drinking it as it is K: Yeah, there was a Q and A on it which said, "Don't ever freeze it! ", online S: Yeah yeah yeah, so I read that they recommend you to drink this new type that cools you down from the inside, instead. It's important to cool down right K: Yes, don't accumulate heat! Just like a PC! S: Hahaha, totally! K: Yes, Computers are human, androids are human S: Hahahaa wow! You managed to link it back! K: Hahahahaha, by force --- K: Congrats Yuma kun!!! (On his single release) *claps* S: It's his 6th single right? He appeared on TV too K:Yea, he really promotes his music a lot, yeah I see them as I get alerts from his Twitter account. Uchida Yuma is really awesome, please support him! --- Q. When I look at my photos from 2 years ago I find them really embarrassing, especially when I wear stuff that were in fashion at that time, but when I look at them now, they become things from my dark past, do guys feel that too? S: I always say that but, that photo from high school K: pfffft S: Yeah, that was the coolest guy in Yamanashi K: M shaped bangs S: Yes... K: Tanned from being in the mountains too much S: Yeah yeah K: From mountains or from grapes S: Hahahaaa from grapes?! It's been brought up too much but yeah, I always think about this but, rather than being embarrassed, I think that was something good, to tell people K: hahahaa it has matured within you S: Like after 10 years K: I guess after 10 years it becomes a good memory S: Yeah, so I don't.. Really... Have any... K: Hmmm.. Dark history due to past trends huh... Not trends but I have tons of stories... S: True... Mine has nothing to do with trends, it was just me... K: Yea.. So I don't wanna talk about it.. S: I once drew a chart of an RPG kind of storyplot in school setting. I shall just say the title ok? ...'Infinity' K: That's so possible.... S: And at the last part I wanted fo write 'the end', but I was such a kid I wrote 'te end', there,  there was no 'H' K: Wow S: The protagonist was named 'Raguna' K: that's sooo possible! S: He could synchronise with beasts and fight K: Ahhhh kids would dream of that right? S: Yeah, I want to forget about this but I won't... I will present it to the world if the opportunity comes K: Then I shall do game commentary for that! Hahahaha---Q. K: Yoshitsugu san asked me recently, 'are you okay? You keep saying ahhh, ahhh, are you alright?' S: that's true K: I say that? That's like kaonashi isn't it S: No, you say it clearly. But you talk to yourself a lot too K: Ah I talk to myself when in my car all the time S: No no no! You do that in the recording booth a lot! K: I do that? S: You do! K: What do I say? Give us an example! S: You go like, ' Ah! ah! ma! un! My voice idnt coming out well...' K: That's just giving excuses
S/K: Ahahahha
