I've lost feeling in my thumbs from scrolling this list.
Every line is another reason for Americans of conscience to VOTE 🗳 - don't leave it to others, the fate of the World is literally in your hands.
I owe my Trump-supporting friends an apology. I’ve been critical of the Trump presidency and am still exhausted from the experience.
But to be fair, President Trump wasn’t that bad, other than:
• when he incited an insurrection against the government,
• mismanaged a pandemic that killed over a million Americans
• separated children from their families

As the U.S. faces a tight presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Bisan Owda takes us inside Gaza to hear what people there really think about the election. With over 43,000 Palestinians killed by Israel – most of them women and children – many Palestinians in Gaza doubt that either candidate will bring any real change.
“They are killing us while the world is watching,” a man says. Another adds, “They all cheer for Israel.” Despite the rising death toll and a conflict that’s spreading across the Middle East, both candidates remain steadfast in their support for Israel. While the election is expected to have a global impact, people in Gaza are left wondering: Will this bring relief or just more suffering?

Whichever party you’re voting for, you’ve got to admit: JD Vance has stunning blue eyes. It looked like he was wearing eyeliner for that debate with Walz.
It’s nice to see a 2024 election debate done in a civil, cordial manner that discusses policies rather than a battle of throwing insults at the opponent party like a pre-schooler.

This is why voting 3rd party is effectively voting for Trump.
(Transcript under the cut)
Transcript
“Tell me what you told me the other day about third parties just not happening”
“I understand people looking for a third path.”
“God I wish”
“Government is old and structured. And the two party system sucks. But it is the government that we have right now, and it’s kind of the government that everybody has.
For this particular election, if you are voting for president, because of the electoral college, you can only really choose between Donald Trump or Joe Biden. Because they’re on the ballot in every state and because the first one to reach 270 electoral votes is the winner.
The third party Libertarian, Green Party, Independent, they’re not on the ballot in enough states to get enough electoral votes. Just straight up, the electoral votes don’t exist. This isn’t my opinion, I’m just giving you the nuts and bolts.
If the Libertarian party gets 10% of the vote, or JFK junior pulls some electoral votes away, they will pull them away from Biden most likely.
Or neither candidate gets to 270. If neither Trump or Biden get to 270, the vote goes to congress. And congress will put Trump into office.
So the American public will not have an option because we know based on the states and how many votes the congress gets, each state gets one, we know it leans right.”

Your Guide To Voting in 2024
Yes, you may feel like everything is horrible and hopeless, and you don't want to vote. I'm here to not do that, and give you tips and info on why. Ultimately, I do not care what you actually vote only that you try to go and fill out something.
Make Sure You Are Registered to Vote
Check your registration status. This site has a drop down to select your state, which will link you to the website to check and see if you're registered.
Not registered? Go here. This site will tell you how to get registered in your state and will link you directly to the online registration if your state offers it.
Make sure you have a government issued photo ID. Driver's license, state ID, passport, etc. Many states require to you to present some form of ID to vote. Find out what counts in your state (and exceptions and provisional ballot rules) here.
Know you'll have difficulty making it to the ballot box? Check the rules for voting by mail/absentee voting in your state and see if you qualify.
Look up your sample ballot ahead of time! Lots of places provide a sample ballot which allows you to see what all the issues are ahead of time. Since this will vary by local elections, the best way to this is to look up "[your county name] sample ballot", possibly with the year tacked on to the end of the search. This may not be available until closer to election day, but it is a great way to get prepared for voting.
Other Voting Tips
This is where I get into the bit where it matters more to me that you vote than who you vote for. This is a personal principle of mine: everyone has the right to vote regardless of if I agree with what you choose to do with that vote.
You do not have to fill out every box on the ballot. You can leave some blank! Don't want to vote on President this year? Fine! Only want to vote on President and don't want to research other issues? Also fine. In fact, you can turn in a completely blank ballot if you want, and that is a political action, too. (Tip: parties note a blank box on issues because it indicates to them you were dissatisfied with your options)
You can bring notes with you! Too many issues to keep track of? Write yourself a note, print out a sample ballot and fill it out in advance to copy over, finding a voting guide and print it. As long as it is ON PAPER, you can bring it with you. (I verified this is universally allowed here)
Don't know where to start on research? The sample ballot is a great place to start just looking up candidates, but I also recommend checking out your local chapter of League of Women Voters. They put out a voters guides for each election that list pros and cons to various issues on the ballot.
The most important and most neglected elections are your local ones. Real grassroots change might be possible in your city, if you pay attention. Too overwhelmed by all this? Pick a few local issues to focus on, like the school board or city council. My city passed a trans-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance in a red state because people rallied around a handful of progressive city council members that swayed the vote. Even if everything feels hopeless, you make things better for yourself and your loved ones by actively engaging in your local politics.
Remember it's voting AND not voting OR. I know a lot of people are extremely dissatisfied with their options for this year's election, especially at the national level. Don't stop doing what you're doing. Don't stop protesting and boycotting and donating and talking about the things that matter to you. Get involved in your community. Find ways to make a difference. But also, go vote. Please.
Thank you for reading this. I hope something in here was helpful for you, and if it was, please consider reblogging this so that others can find it as well. If I've forgotten anything important, I welcome any helpful additions and will do my best to reblog those or add them to the original post as needed!

My mom's watching Fox News and they're all like "How dare the Democrats tell women they can lie to their families!!! Of course women can vote conservative! The Democrats just want women submissive! How dare!!"
And I'm in the other room like yeah you know when you grow up in a conservative family where you're told things like "Do you like living here? Then shut up!" and got punished for showing emotion or trying to assert yourself even over tiny things like you know not doing your homework yet because you had to do the laundry first. Like...
These people are delusional if they think growing up conservative and/or living in a house where the person in charge of it is conservative doesn't mean growing up/living with a lot of pressure and control put on you to knuckle under even over traps.
And I know I know "Then just move out!" which would be great if my disabled ass could get a full time job without a driver's license and the housing market wasn't borked beyond repair.

Palestinian Activist EVISCERATES AOC
youtube
Why are people so focused about reporting colloquially on the jokes about "crowd size" at the DNC?
The Harris Walz campaign is taking contributions by the fistfuls from AIPAC, and while a sitting Vice President is working "tirelessly" people are dying at the hands of the Israeli caste system that dehumanizes and brutalizes the Palestinian people. Israel may have the right to defend itself, but not with the shield of US support.
It is, to use one of AOC's most touted words, shameful.

Words from @wizard_bisan1. We know that no matter who wins in the U.S. election on November 5, our work to end this genocide will continue. Because we know this, we declare that we will cast #NoVotesForGenocide — that is, we will refuse to vote for any elected official who despite our constant mobilization over the past year, has remained complicit in the mass slaughter of our people — whether through voting in support of continued arms shipments and aid to Israel, or in accepting blood money from AIPAC and other Zionist lobbying groups. Liberation will not come from any vote cast on a ballot in the belly of this empire. Rather, it will be up to us, the free people of the world and the Palestinian people — to continue our struggle from wherever we are and for as long as necessary, until Zionism is dismantled and Palestine is free.

Finally got my absentee ballot! For awhile there, I thought it had just gotten “lost” because it’s been a couple months since I applied for it online.
We have a BC election on October 19th, and since I’m a registered Canadian voter, they’ve been mailing some of the campaigns to me. I thought it was another one of those BC campaigns but to my surprise it was my “lost” absentee ballot for US.
Time to cheer my party on!
…after my two exams next week.

morbidly curious about the republican primary debate tonight. like I don't want to watch them fight for over an hour about which one of them is the most bigoted conspiracy theorist of them all. but also it's probably gonna be batshit and I just know it's gonna go off the walls
so like. here's some crazy stuff for background info
doug burgum (candidate who just barely qualified) just got hospitalized this morning so he may or may not make the debate
desantis started out as the closest challenger to trump, but has fallen to about 14-15% of primary voters in the polls (fivethirtyeight). meanwhile, vivek ramaswamy, who was initially regarded as a long-shot candidate, has been catching up to him in the past few weeks
trump decided to sit out on the debate altogether, instead holding an interview with tucker carlson on twitter (I refuse to call it x) at the same time as the debate. the media is speculating that with trump gone, the other candidates will focus their attacks on desantis and ramaswamy instead.
despite agreeing to surrender to fulton county jail tomorrow, trump currently has about 52-53% of republican support in the primary polls (fivethirtyeight)
desantis' super pac leaked his debate strategy for some reason, which was to attack ramaswamy and joe biden, and defend trump. a bunch of media outlets have said this is a dogshit strategy, and since it's been leaked, idk if he'll change it or not.
disney just filed another lawsuit against desantis in addition to the first one, which he told them to drop
chris christie is apparently the only candidate on stage who's had experience with presidential primary debates lol
so overall, I'd be surprised if this doesn't end up being a total shitshow. I'll probably just read updates as they come out instead of watching the debate itself. but
