Indian IT Worker Designs New Eco-Friendly Sewage Treatment Method with the Sacred Cow as His Inspiration https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/indian-it-worker-designs-new-eco-friendly-sewage-treatment-method-with-the-sacred-cow-as-his-inspiration/
Tharun Kumar began to imagine ways to build a better sewage treatment method that could produce good quality water without chemicals.
In 2017, Kumar started ECOSTP with the chambered stomach of the cow as his “bovine inspiration.”
Typical wastewater plants use aerobic bacteria, or metabolism with oxygen, to break down sewage, but this requires the ventilation system that continually runs on energy. Regular sewage treatment also tends to use chemicals, and has the presence of a full-time employee. Kumar has eliminated almost all of these drawbacks.
At the base of the ECOSTP septic tank is a layer of cow dung that provides the bacterial workers. With the water moving via gravity, it enters the second bacterial chamber before passing into the third space which is a filter of sand and gravel. The fourth chamber lies under a garden of select vascular plants which removes suspended solids, pathogens, nitrogen, and phosphorus, the latter two going to feed the plants.
The resulting water is graded by health inspectors as good quality for toilet water and gardening applications. With the aid of a grant from the US-based Biomimicry Solutions, ECOSTP now has 325 clients across 22 states in India, and their septic tanks are unmanned and unpowered, saving thousands in running costs.
“We are proud to have reclaimed 2 billion liters of sewage so far without power or chemicals.”
ECOSTP is now seeing if it’s possible to identify anaerobic bacteria that can remove the harmful compounds of industrial effluent.

simon riley x original character.
trigger warnings: violence, sexual assault, mentions of rape, trauma, sexual themes, swearing, use of alcohol and drugs.
song to listen to when reading this: Carmen: Habanera, Georges Bizet.
abstract: this is what I usually do when I work, which is killing people and getting annoyed at my subordinates. in case you're dumb enough not to have noticed, this is Simon. anyway, technical boring chapter, but a few important informations you should keep in mind…. it's gonna get messy, try to keep up.
'ETA is ten minutes.'
Jude had her arms crossed on her chest, her eyes were scanning the screens. There was a lot to take in. She could see the body cams footage, along with which soldier the camera belonged to. They were sitting in two separate cars, guns below their feet. Some were talking to each other. At some point, one of them turned and the Lieutenant appeared on video. He was looking ahead of him, arms crossed on his chest, silent and stoic. She looked away. She could see the weather radars, and the GPS on the remote control cars that were about to be sent ahead.
'India 0-1, this is Alpha 0-1, whether status check, over'. Alpha was the captain, she had gathered. 'Alpha 0-1, this is India 0-1…' she paused for a second 'weather is stable, nothing to report, over.' She knew by now everyone was listening to what she was saying. She kept a serious tone of voice. 'India 0-1, roger that, out.' Simon thought she was pretty good at this. She sounded like she had been doing it forever. How was she good at everything all the time? The car he was sitting in came to a halt, they prepared the two remote control vehicles to send in before them. Securing the two drones on top, one of his teammates spoke into his radio. 'India 0-1, it's Charlie 0-2, RC cars moving in, out.' Alba adjusted the screen to see it better, even thought it was still blank. There was silence for a few seconds, they were waiting for the vehicles to get in position. 'India, check status with Eagle 0-3 before we sent out the drones, out.' She heard Price speak again out of nowhere, which made her jump in her seat. 'Alpha, I'm checking now, out.' She quickly switched channels to communicate with the airplane. 'Eagle 0-3, this is India 0-1 last check before the drones are sent out, over.' The reply was instant. 'Nothing to report, all clear' that was what they said and what she repeated to the captain. 'Roger that, you should have vision in a few minutes.' She waited patiently, until on her smaller monitor appeared the live video from the drones, which got to the middle of the crater. One was gonna stay at a good altitude, giving her visual of the whole base, the other would slightly come down to try and identify Khorram. She wondered for a second if Arash was there with them… He had vanished, he never came back to the base and everyone assumed he was in the Middle East right now…
'India, you got visual?' She snapped back to reality. Focus. 'Positive.' Simon proceeded to start his climb with Soap and Rabbit. He was on the North side. The crater started getting steep once they approached the top, the air was hot and it had gotten more windy. Sand was in his eyes. He already felt sweat prickle down his back, his mask didn't help with ventilation. 'India 0-1, this is Bravo 0-2. We're in position. How copy?' He waited for Johnny to approach him, they would take down two of Khorram's men at the same time, the ones guarding the perimeter. On the East side, the Alpha team would do the same with the third one. 'Bravo 0-2, copy loud and clear' he heard her sweet voice ring in his ear though the headphones. 'Wait for Alpha team, I'll update you.' He felt a knot in his stomach form for a second. 'They're not in position yet?' he asked. 'They're still climbing, it's much steeper on their side'. He rolled his eyes, positioning himself between two rocks and adjusting his sniper in place with the silencer. 'You still have good visual?' he spoke again. He was just making sure everything was going well, no harm in that. Without the captain, he was the one in charge after all. 'I do', she simply replied, clearly not wanting to be questioned. 'Let me know when they're close…' she didn't respond. 'India 0.1, how copy?' Why do you have to be annoying even when I'm working on the other side of the world? 'Loud and clear, Bravo 0-2'.
He heard a chuckle. She heard it too. In sync, him in the middle of the desert, her in an office in America, they both turned their heads to the source of the laughter. Squatting behind the Lieutenant was Rabbit. She looked at Simon's body cam, which was partly turned towards him. He had a grin on his face. I can get you killed from over here, the fuck you laughing for? 'Sorry, India 0-1… you can say other words apart from loud and clear, you know?' She felt her cheeks go red. She cleared her throat before replying 'I'll say splendid if I'm in trouble.' She switched off, letting out a sigh. I don't even know you, shut the fuck up. She almost didn't pay attention enough to ear Simon tell off Rabbit, telling him to be quiet. Fortunately, Alpha team had reached position. The execution of the three snipers was relatively easy for Ghost and the others. The real deal was getting down without getting caught. 'Alpha 0-1 to all stations, start to climb down. Don't make a sound.' Her palms started sweating hearing Price pronounce those words. She focused on the screens that showed the images of the drones. 'India, tell us what you see', instructed the captain. 'There are three tents on the East side, I count four South side, in semicircle. There is a bonfire in the middle, I count… four men around. Armed.' She tried to be as clear as possible. 'One of the tents on the southern side is bigger than the others. There are two pick up trucks that could give cover to the Bravo team.' She added. 'Our man?' asked an unknown voice, 'I don't see him', she replied. She squinter her eyes to see better, the four men were standing around the fire, which was the only source of light, a part form the headlights of the two vehicles. 'India, status?', asked the captain again. 'They're not moving, they're talking…' she replied 'I see one person inside the pick-up on your right, Bravo team, on the drivers side.' 'Copy that', it was Simon who spoke. He nearly tripped on a branch he din't see. He didn't see it because it was fucking pitch black outside. Now that they were closer to the crater's centre, he could see the fire and the trucks, their engines were on. Staying low, ready to fire his gun, he kept moving. 'India, status?' 'They haven't noticed anything. No one else has left the tents… I think they have two bikes…'
'You think?!' Shit.
'No sir, I'm sure', get your shit together Alba, 'they're covered by a blanket, they're definitely motorbikes. Behind the tent with the snake print, west side.'
It all went to shit extremely fast. He would later learn it went to shit because some dickhead from Alpha team slipped on wet grass and made noise and one of the soldiers heard him. Un-fucking-believable. They approached the truck and hid behind it, ready to take down the driver. It would take Simon a bit of knife work to do it silently. What they heard next sent chills down their spines. 'Alpha team, you got one coming towards you, he heard something.' Jude's words were sharp. They had been compromised. Shots were fired before he could give any orders to his men. Jude started seeing the body cams images getting confused and erratic, they were running and covering the camera with their rifles. Simon realised he had to move when he heard screams in a different language. He quickly took down the driver, preparing to attack. The Alpha team didn't have any coverage, they were far and exposed, still at the side of the crater. 'Use the tents as coverage, Khorram's inside they're not gonna shoot!' He heard Jude's voice over the noise. Preoccupied and scared. Told you this wasn't the place for you sweet angel… He was able to shoot one of the four men around the fire, but things were moving at a faster pace then they'd imagined. 'Bravo team, the tent to your right, something's going on inside', Jude alerted them. 'Ghost cover me!' He turned around to see Johnny peek around his corner, he wanted to go check the tent. Simon quickly did what he asked. He could see the Alpha team peeking out from the side of the tents, they wouldn't last long for sure, they were extremely close to the bonfire.
'Jude do you see him?'
'Alpha 0-3 is down!'
'I see him!' Simon got out of his precious hiding spot right the second Jude spoke. He disarmed one of the remaining men, using his knife to finish the job. Glancing to his left he spotted his teammate on the ground, saw Gaz running towards them. 'Go, I'll take him!' He turned away, 'Jude where to?' he asked. He could see his surroundings better now that the bonfire was close. He didn't wait for the girl to answer him, cause Johnny appeared from inside the tent. He heard an engine start. No… 'The bikes, three of them heading south-west.' They wasted no time, but the bikes were already climbing up the mountain.
You see, they did get him in the end. Rabbit took one of the trucks and provided coverage to the others, he basically run over half the camp. Price was the one who shot Khorram in the shoulder. Two other men died, one was captured. Alpha 0-3, his name was Thomas, he made it alive. They got out of the crater and back to the cars. Jude's voice was in their ears. 'All stations, I see a sandstorm approaching your position, you should hurry up' and 'Positive ID on the target' or 'You got troops approaching from north-east'. They weren't the only ones listening to her. When Thomas was shot in the crater his headphones basically flew away when his head hit the ground. Gaz didn't even bother taking them, he just got his friend on his shoulders to carry him away… Two men were in the crater not even ten minutes after they had left. They saw the fire, the blood. They saw the devastation the truck left and the motorbikes scattered on the ground. Most importantly, they saw the headphones. One of them put them close to his ear, to see if he could hear a conversation. And he could. 'Bravo 0-1, this is Alpha 0-2, we're right behind you, out.'
'Alpha 0-2, status on Alpha 0-3, over.'
'Bravo 0-1, stable condition. India 0-1, word from the aircraft?'
'This is India 0-1 to all stations, you're clear to go.'
The man with the headset turned his head to look at the other. That voice. He recognised her. She spoke again, he couldn't believe his ears. She spoke one last time, he felt rage. Then someone, Bravo 0-1, called her by her name. Four damned letters, a death sentence. You shouldn't have said that, brother…
I know who Jude is.
notes: shit.

The Scottish physician and inventor Neil Arnott was born on May 15th 1788.
Arnott, was born in the town of Arbroath, he  would become a very highly-regarded physician and show an inventiveness unusual for his era.
Misfortunes compelled the father, Alexander, to give up his farm and settle first at Blair and afterwards in Aberdeen. Neil was taught by his mother Ann, and at the parish school of Lunan, and in November 1798 entered Aberdeen grammar school. In 1801 he was entered as a student in the Marischal College, with a small bursary, where he remained during four sessions, and was especially interested by the lectures of Patrick Copland on natural philosophy. He graduated M.A. in 1805, and at once commenced the study of medicine in Aberdeen. He supported himself partly by acting as shop-assistant to a chemist.
By the age of 19 young Neil was a fully fledged surgeon and made two visits to China as surgeon for the British East India Company and then settled in London where his reputation would grow and grow.
He gave lectures at the Philomathic Institution and published these as Elements of physics. Arnott was one of the founders of the University of London, 1836. Within a few years he was made physician to the French and Spanish embassies, and in 1837 he became physician extraordinary to the Queen. He was elected to the Fellow of the Royal Society in 1838. He was a strong advocate of scientific, as opposed to purely classical, education.
Doctor Arnott gifted 2,000 pounds to each of the four universities of Scotland and to the University of London, to promote its study in the experimental and practical form.Of his inventions they included, a  Smokeless Fire-place, Chimney-valves, and “Other Means, Old and New of obtaining Healthful warmth and ventilation”  But is the final invention I find most interesting, he gave us the first form of waterbed. Dr Arnott’s Hydrostatic Bed, as it was known, had been created to help invalids avoid bedsores. A bath of water covered with rubber-impregnated canvas, and a lighter bedding on top, it worked a treat. The modest Arnott, however, didn’t choose to patent the idea, amazingly the waterbed was not actually patented until 1968 by an American furniture designer Charles Prior Hall, but oor Dr Arnott definitely came up with the idea first.
The water bed was first used in aid of medicine. In 1873, when Sir James Paget at St Bartholomew’s Hospital presented a waterbed designed by Arnott as a treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers (bed sores); a condition that was quite common in this era. Paget found that waterbeds allowed mattress pressure to be evenly distributed over the body. Unfortunately, this invention lacked the ability to regulate the temperature of the water.
And so we have another first from a Scot, the waterbed!
Neil Arnott died in London in 1874 but is buried with his mother in Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh.

How does ETO Sterilization work?
What is ETO Sterilization?
Ethylene oxide (ETO) sterilization is a process used to sterilize medical and pharmaceutical products that cannot withstand traditional high-temperature steam sterilization methods. ETO is a gas that effectively kills microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi by disrupting their DNA and cellular proteins.
Tumblr media
How Does ETO Sterilization Work?
Preparation: Items to be sterilized are placed in a sealed chamber.
Exposure: ETO gas is introduced into the chamber, reaching all surfaces of the items.
Conditioning: The gas is held at specific temperature, humidity, and pressure levels for a predetermined time to ensure effective sterilization.
Aeration: Post-sterilization, the chamber is aerated to remove residual ETO gas, as ETO is toxic and potentially carcinogenic.
Monitoring: Throughout the process, parameters such as gas concentration, temperature, and exposure time are closely monitored to ensure efficacy and safety.
Applications of ETO Sterilizers
ETO sterilization is particularly suitable for:
Medical Devices: Such as surgical instruments, implants, and catheters.
Pharmaceuticals: Including drugs, ointments, and powders that are sensitive to heat and moisture.
Packaging Materials: Like plastic pouches and tubes that cannot withstand high temperatures.
Its ability to penetrate porous materials and complex devices makes ETO sterilization indispensable in many healthcare and pharmaceutical settings where other methods might be impractical or ineffective.
Considerations and Safety
While highly effective, ETO sterilization poses certain safety challenges:
Toxicity: ETO is hazardous to human health and requires careful handling. Workers must be trained in its safe use, and facilities must have adequate ventilation and monitoring systems.
Residuals: Proper aeration is crucial to remove ETO residues, which can otherwise compromise product safety.
Regulatory Compliance: Due to its potential health risks, ETO sterilization is heavily regulated by health authorities and environmental agencies worldwide.
Future Trends and Innovations
As technology advances, efforts are underway to improve the efficiency and safety of ETO sterilization processes. This includes developments in gas monitoring systems, aeration techniques, and automation to minimize human exposure.
Conclusion
ETO sterilization plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of medical and pharmaceutical products that are sensitive to heat and moisture. While it requires careful handling due to its toxicity, advancements in technology continue to enhance its reliability and safety. As healthcare and pharmaceutical industries evolve, ETO sterilization remains a cornerstone in the arsenal of sterilization methods, ensuring that healthcare providers and patients alike can trust in the sterility of essential medical products.

India bears a disproportionately large burden of the world's tuberculosis rates, with World Health Organization (WHO) statistics for 2011 giving an estimated incidence figure of 2.2 million cases for India out of a global incidence of 9.6 million cases.
Tuberculosis is one of India's biggest health issues, but what makes this problem even worse is the recent discovery of Totally Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, TDR-TB. This issue of drug resistance began with MDR-TB, moved to XDR-TB and, as of 2021, has grown to embrace the most dangerous form, TDR-TB.
The cost of this death and disease to the Indian economy between 2006 and 2014 was approximately US$1 billion.
Another major cause for the growth of TB in India has to do with its standing as a developing country. A study of Delhi slums has correlated higher scores on the Human Development Index and high proportions of one-room dwellings tend to correlate with TB at higher rates.[16] Poorly built environments, including hazards in the workplace, poor ventilation, and overcrowded homes have also been found to increase exposure to TB
( Their own living situation is causing them death and suffering, and bad wiring is causing summer fires)
It’s a fun fact and a reality check education hour.
I do agree with you. The world is living through a silent pandemic for years and it's the worst in India. We are struggling with it since pre independence era. The first sanatorium was established in 1905 or 1906, if I remember correctly, and even now, if you go to any of the colder places or hill stations, you will find these delepidated buildings which once used to be a sanatorium. One of them is near my college as well.
In 1951, the GOI launched a mass vaccination program for BCG and in 1962, National Tuberculosis Control Project was launched. As a young nation, we did well. Goverment's efforts were commendable. But soon enough, in late 1970s, we realised BCG vaccine isn't exactly working. This should have prompted the government to take an action, but nothing happened. Although, I would like to add here that some say that some data was lost between 1978-1979 (if my memory serves me right) and if we took that in account, the vaccine was working just fine. I would leave this to your discretion.
The world then saw the emergence of HIV in 1984. We too had cases of HIV infection. We did not knew until 1986. Until then, many were infected with HIV and TB was it's most common secondary infection. In 1992, we reported our first MDR TB case as well.
So we were in a hot soup. No vaccine, HIV, increasing population, recession, political upheaval, communication gap between the government and the masses, poor sanitation, lack of knowledge in public, MDR.
In 1993, TB was declared a global emergency and in the same year, Revised NTCP was piloted. We had our objectives clear—85% cure rate and 70% detection rates. And we did it. The catch—it took us 13 years!
Now, time is an asset. Even more so in the case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. There is a whole catalogue of 17000 mutations which may lead to multi drug resistance. Bacteria are quick to reproduce and respond. They are exceptional at defence and time constraints are tight. Safe to say, the devil works fast, but bacteria work faster. Sadly, we did not realise it at that time. In 2012, we then encountered a rather strange strain that was resistant to all the first line and second line drugs—the TDR strain. As if MDR-TB wasn't a nuisance enough. The MDR-TB treatment has a success rate of only 54%. WHO reported roughly 3.4 lakh deaths due to TB in India in 2022 and 1.1 lakh were due to MDR-TB. We had record TB cases in 2023.
But yes, we are working on it. We are a big country with a big population. Population burden is always going to be an issue. We can't run from it. We are working on sanitation, it is taking time, but it will hopefully happen in its due course. In 2023, we became the first country to make a mathematical model to estimate the cases of tuberculosis. According to that, there was an 11 % reduction in the case of TB in 2022 as compared to 2023.
Government has launched NSP for Tuberculosis elimination (2017-2025). We have NiKshay ecosystem (under which the mathematical model has been developed), we have Nikshay poshan Yojana for financial support of TB patients. The scientists are doing their due. Two vaccines are under phase 3 clinical trials. Drugs are being developed. Rifampicin derivatives, BDQ, Delaminid etc.
So yeah, it's an uphill battle and we have made many mistakes. But if all of us do our respective parts, we still have a chance to overcome it.

Volaticotheres of Lemuria
Tumblr media
Reconstruction of the Cretaceous Indotriconodon magnus based on modern extant relatives, by omegafreelancer.
The shadow to the feathered flying lemurs, the volaticotheres of Lemuria are an ancient lineage whose origins stretch all the way back to the Jurassic, with forms like Argentoconodon and Volaticotherium pioneering mammalian flight 70 million years before other mammals took to the air. The latest Cretaceous Indotriconodon magnus is likely a close relative to the extant taxa; genetic studies show that living volaticothere lineages are no older than the Palaeocene. They occur, simultaneously, in the fossil sites of both Maldivia and Marama in the Eocene, flight likely being the reason for their success across both landmasses before they collided. Indeed, prior to the Pliocene they were the apex predators of these landmasses, some extinct forms attaining wingspans of four meters, being the largest mammals that ever flew. Only with the late Miocene climatic changes did these giants decline, giving way to the new apex predators of Lemuria proper: the giant raptors.
Still, the even today volaticotheres occupy the dominant mesocarnivore niches in Lemuria, being analogous to the weasels, mongooses, small canids and small felines of other landmasses. Except, you know, with the ability to fly. Over 45 species occur today in Lemuria, with 6 also found in Madagascar and nearby Indian Ocean islands. Three species occur outside of Lemuria: the African Kongamato (Afrodactylus kogamato), the Southeast Asian Ahool (Pitheconycteris ahool) and the Australasian Ropen (Luminopteryx ropen). The last two in particular are the earliest diverging crown volaticotheres, having diverged from their Lemuro/Malagasy cousins in the Palaeocene and from each other in the Oligocene, likely brought to their current range by the collision of India with Asia; as Indian Ocean winds blow majorly from east to west, most of the volaticothere diversity was kept from flying to Asia. It’s also speculated that the Van Meter cryptid was a volaticothere, but so far no remains have been found in the Americas.
Volaticotheres are among Lemuria’s various non-therian mammal groups, and the only non-therian mammals to fly (flight otherwise occurs in the placental bats and flying lemurs). Their wings are composed of a patagium stretched by a styliform bone, similar to that seen in flying squirrels but elongated and strengthened into resembling the pterosaurian wingfinger; the old mammalian tarsal spur in turn became a structure akin to the bat calcar, supporting the uropatagium. The membrane itself has various muscle and collagen fibers that prevent fluttering, much as with the wing membranes of bats. Of all mammalian flyers, volaticotheres are arguably the most efficient due to their epipubic bones, which support muscle groups that aid in lung ventilation; this has allowed them to produce larger flyers with more endurant flight. They are however less agile than bats and some flying lemurs, seeing as their styliform is not as flexible as their wingfingers. Like other flying mammals the ability to fly demmands an immune system with less extreme inflammatory reactions, and so their cells have similar “self-fixing” programs. This allows them to survive with high quantities of viruses without being infected, but makes them especially vulnerable to other pathogens. The Ropen has however found a symbiotic relationship with bioluminescent fungi in its wing membranes, making it the only bioluminescent terrestrial vertebrate (the same might also apply to the Van Meter cryptid, assuming it exists and is a volaticothere). Their unique metabolic and immune systems also allow for longer lifespans, with some species living almost as long as humans reaching over eighty years old.
Most volaticotheres are nocturnal, using sight and hearing as their main senses, though some species has also an accute sense of smell, particularly dedicated scavengers. Some species echolocate, but not to the extent of bats and mostly just to locate perching sites. Some species are highly social, gathering in large flocks when not foraging, but larger species are mostly solitary.
Like bats and flying lemurs they give birth to highly altricial young, some relatively developed but still dependent on their mothers for several months. Like all flying mammals they can only attain flight when close to adult size, which in some species may take over an year. Several species form creches like bats and flying lemurs, finding safety in numbers while their mothers forage. Others make nests, and in some both parents take care of the young.
The varying diversity of volaticotheres means that different species have different symbolic values to the cultures of Lemuria. Typically though they’re considered the shadow to the flying lemur’s light, and many species are considered signs of bad omens, not helped by their zoonotic diseases. Many however consider them excellent pest control, and some have attained an unique totemic status in indigenous religions, particularly the large and impressive Walamul. Indeed the Vavaitosy (Felipterus aloeri) has been semi-domesticated, allowing to patrol and nest in Sammangal gardens and trained for falconry. Many are endangered due to habitat loss and the spread of fungal diseases, but some have quite adapted to city life, and their ability to fly gives them an advantage over competing introduced species like cats, dogs and mongooses.
These beasts were the first to take to the air, and hopefully will remain fluttering about for millions of years to come.
Tumblr media
The largest living flying mammal, the Walamul (Werer; also known as Avaitosy in Atratra, and various other regional names like Yauava in Lemurian Tamil) reaches a wingspan of three meters and up to 5 kg, though smaller estimates are more common.
It is distributed across Lemuria, though it favours the rainforest regions, where there are fewer large raptors to compete with. Accordingly, its white and black color suits it well when it hunts in low light conditions (it is primarily nocturnal) and its rounded wings suit it well as it flies in the dense forest. It is a fearsome predator, echoing the ancient giant volaticotheres as it pounces on mid-sized gondwanatherians or even elephant calves, but thanks to its ability to fly it can rely on a mostly scavenging diet. It has a better sense of smell than most of its relatives, and its larger size allows it to displace smaller predators and scavengers, aside from the birds of prey.
It is a largely solitary animal, but it can tolerate the presence of two or three members of its species in its territory. Most such small groupings tend to be siblings, or parents and children. Breeding happens every four years, males following females by urine scent and spending a long period of time trying to court them, producing low pitched sounds. After mating the female raises the sole pup alone, usually left in a crevice or tree hollow while she hunts. The juvenile spends over an year being raised this way, and even after acquiring its independence it may stay within their mother’s territory for years.
The Walamul is symbolic of the night itself across Lemuria’s cultures, and simultaneously revered and feared; while this animal rarely poses a threat to people, it may target livestock, though traditionally this is deterred by leaving piles of scrap and unusable carcasses in order to dstract it non-lethally. It most famously appears in The Drama of the Moon, where it is the final challenge for the two competing gods. In western Lemuria, where it is less common, it is seen particularly ambivalently as an enemy of the Sun Goddess, yet also a bringer of rain. In many areas it is a totemic symbol of great importance, and some people claim descent from the Walamul as an ancestor spirit.
Currently, it is Vulnerable due to habitat loss and occasional persecution as non-traditional agriculture declines and prejudices increase. Conservation efforts have been successful in raising its population from a bottleneck in the 60’s, and the animal can even occasionally be seen in urban areas. Cats and small dogs are occasionally targetted, but such urbanite volaticotheres often preffer to attack trash cans.

Addressing H2S in Downstream Processes: Refining and Petrochemical Applications
Hazardous gas management is an absolute necessity in the complex arena of the refining and petrochemical industries.  Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is very poisonous and poses a threat to both people and the environment, making it one of the most dangerous gases around.  Downstream operations, especially in the refining and petrochemical industries, face a significant challenge from hydrogen sulphide (H2S).  Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a highly poisonous, combustible, and odorous gas that forms when sulphur compounds in crude oil break down.  Health hazards, including respiratory difficulties and nausea, have been linked to even brief exposure to even trace amounts.  Safeguarding lives and operations with the cutting-edge H2S scavenger solutions offered by Imperial Oilfield Chemicals – an excellent H2S Scavenger Chemical manufacturer in India.
Tumblr media
Management options that work include constant monitoring, confinement, chemical treatment, and staff education and development.  These sectors protect their workers and the environment from H2S hazards through preventative measures, without sacrificing productivity.  This article discusses H2S and its significance in the refining and petrochemical industries, including its origins, risks, and efficient methods of control.
Understanding the Origins and Hazards of H2S:
The odour of hydrogen sulphide is sometimes compared to that of rotten eggs, despite the gas being odourless and unpleasant.  It is present in several steps of the downstream processes, especially in the refining of crude oil and the manufacturing of petrochemicals.  H2S is produced in large part due to the oxidation of sulfur-containing molecules present in crude oil.  This implies that the possible emission of H2S is a constant risk when refineries process crude oil to produce useful products like petrol, diesel and jet fuel.  Beyond boundaries, beyond H2S threats.  Get started with Imperial Oilfield Chemicals - a top-ranking H2S Scavenger Chemical exporter in Libya for recognised chemical exports!
H2S poses serious dangers in a number of different ways.  Exposure to even trace amounts might cause symptoms like respiratory irritation, itchy eyes, queasy stomach, headache, and dizziness.  Exposure to higher concentrations for longer periods of time can cause serious health problems, including respiratory failure and death.  Because of H2S's high combustibility and explosive potential, strict control measures are required to ensure the integrity of plant safety and forestall disasters.
Effective Approaches to Mitigate H2S Risks:
Given the severity of the risks, the refining and petrochemical industries use a variety of techniques to reduce the likelihood of being exposed to H2S.  The industry's dedication to environmental responsibility is highlighted by these measures, which also guarantee the safety of operations.  Global solutions for local safety.  Request a quote for premium H2S scavenger chemical solutions from Imperial Oilfield Chemicals – a trusted H2S Scavenger Chemical exporter in Gujarat today!
Detection and Continuous Monitoring:  The constant monitoring and rapid identification of H2S concentrations are foundational to effective control of the gas.  Operators can detect H2S in real-time with the help of modern gas detection systems that come with cutting-edge sensors and alerts.  This allows for quick reactions and appropriate interventions to reduce any risk of exposure.
Containment and Ventilation:  Limiting H2S emissions requires careful containment of any activities that produce the gas, as well as good ventilation.  Good ventilation helps get rid of H2S in the workplace, reducing the risk of exposure.
Chemical Scavenging:  To neutralise H2S, chemical scavengers are commonly used.  These chemicals are meant to trap H2S molecules in their vapour phase and neutralise them before they escape into the air.  This has two advantages: it stops pollution and protects people's health.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Training:  The most important step in protecting workers from H2S is providing them with proper PPE, such as gas masks and full-body suits.  Workers can learn more about the dangers of H2S and acquire the skills they need to respond appropriately in an emergency thanks to extensive training programmes.
Process Optimization:  The production of H2S can be reduced by the use of process optimisation strategies at refineries and petrochemical facilities.  Changing the parameters of operation or adopting new technologies that slow the breakdown of sulphur compounds could be necessary.
Final Thoughts:
Ethically and legally, the refining and petrochemical industries must ensure that hydrogen sulphide is effectively managed in downstream processes.  The multifaceted approach taken to mitigate H2S concerns includes detection in real-time, training for workers, chemical treatment, and process improvements.  H2S management techniques, which promote safer operational environments and sustainable practices, will need to evolve as these industries adapt to meet rising worldwide needs.
All parties involved in the refining and petrochemical industries have a responsibility to manage H2S in a proactive manner.  These sectors contribute to a safer and more environmentally responsible future by prioritising the deployment of effective mitigation methods, which in turn reduces the risks associated with H2S exposure.  Maintaining a focus on H2S management is critical to creating more secure workplaces, protecting natural habitats, and laying a solid groundwork for these industries to expand.  Delivering H2S safety across borders – Partner with Imperial Oilfield Chemicals, your trusted H2S Scavenger Chemical supplier in Libya!

Cancer awareness.
So last time someone asked me whether we celebrate Diwali or not I replied that we won't be this year since my uncle (my mother's brother) is on a ventilator. This was 11th November. On 13th November, my uncle passed away due to cancer.
Nobody knew he had cancer before. So let me take you on a journey of about four and a half months of cancer.
–July 2023.
So my uncle had a “wound” around his wisdom tooth. He was in pain and consulted a dentist 1. This dentist has done all the dental stuff in our family/relatives. A really good one. He said that it was an ulcer and it would be fine and gave some painkillers and other medicine to help it heal.
However, that did not work out and the pain only got worse. My uncle changed the doctor and went to the dentist 2. Now, this dentist is a well-known doctor and works in a very expensive hospital. And he has a clinic of his own. He said that they needed to extract the wisdom teeth. And after that, it will heal. So they did that.
The pain did not stop but it only got worse for even worse.
–August 2023.
When he did not get any relief, my uncle went to another hospital (which is one of the top hospitals in India). They did the scanning and we found out that he had stage 1 cancer in his mouth.
The doctors recommended he should get it operated and removed. So they did that. It was a shock for doctors that when they were operating on him, they found that it was not only in his mouth but in his throat as well. It looked like it started in the throat and its roots went towards his mouth.
They declared that it was not the first stage but the fifth stage of cancer.
Then his chemotherapy and radiation began. He was getting weaker quite faster since his upper jaw was operated on and he was on a liquid diet.
The treatment went on. He was fine at the beginning. Doing minor chores or taking himself to appointments. That did not last long.
–October 2023.
His health got worse and he was completely in bed. His breath would shorten even if went to the toilet which was just one step from his side. It would take minutes on minutes to get his breath at a normal rate.
It was around 14th October. We were there. My aunt helped my uncle bathe but things were not good. His breath was way too short and you could see his stomach getting sucked in when he was trying to breathe.
The next day was the day he was hospitalized.
The doctors said that his lungs were filled with water because of some infection which, to date, is not known.
They started taking out the water. They would fill many bottles every day. It was abnormal, to say the least, that there was that much water in his lungs.
–November 2023.
During that time, they took his bone marrow and tested it. Just to find out the cancer has spread in his bones as well. The doctors did another test whose results took almost a week to come back. The doctors said that if this test was positive, they can do another treatment which was basically the last thing they could do to save his life.
The test came out to be positive. And they prepared the injection. They took him to the ICU in order to keep him under observation for 24 hours according to the protocol of that injection.
This injection was supposed to extend his life by 2 years (maximum). This was an expensive injection costing ₹2,00,000 and this was to be given every three weeks.
Things didn't turn out well.
His health deteriorated. He already had a kidney problem for a long. His kidney doctors had asked him to buy a plot just in case they needed to perform a kidney transplant.
His creatinine increased dangerously and doctors suggested dylasis. They did that too. However, nothing worked and finally after two days, on 13th November, he took his last breath.
.
I made this post to share something that happened to us recently. Never have any of us thought this would happen to our close relatives/family. Cancer is a tricky thing.
The main fault was of Dentist 2 that he pulled his tooth out. Cancer attacks faster when it is touched. He should have taken cautionary steps while treating.
What's done is done. He can't come back and we hope he finds peace.
I just want to share this so you are aware of it. Always get proper tests done. Never take things lightly. Even if you see minor symptoms of anything, get it checked. I don't know what to say right now. But at least let's stay healthy and cautious.
Cancer is a sneaky nightmare. It took someone so close to us within a few months. It was a horrible and haunting thing.
I hope nothing like this happens to any of you. I love you guys so please let's stay healthy. Look after your friends, family, and yourself. Life is too short for regrets❤️.

Letters from Watson, Catching Up
The Speckled Band, part 3: The fun bits.  - Holmes’ scruples about taking Watson with him into potential danger - keeping in mind that only two years ago Watson’s health was ‘ruined’ and we can assume that any Maiwand related PTSD is not completely gone - are very considerate.  - People must have had a relatively later schedule in Victorian England if Holmes and Watson can plausibly tell the landlord at the inn that they’re going for a visit at eleven PM, and that they might not be back. Though honestly, I think the fact that it’s a small town is the only reason the landlord might possibly be paying any attention. That and the fact that it might affect things like breakfasts and wake-up calls.  - There are plenty of holes in the wall around the estate, meaning that the village as a whole has a free range cheetah and baboon. Even if Dr. Roylott didn’t make a practice of assaulting his neighbors, they’d probably hate him.  - When confronted by dangerous wild animals Holmes and Watson end up crowded together like frightened kids. Holmes’ first instinct is to grab Watson’s wrist and make sure he’s still there. - Holmes places Watson further from the presumed source of danger, the bed with the ventilator and snake ladder.  - As an official name, “swamp adder” gives me nothing. Neither does deadliest snake in india, since that’s the common krait and it has stripes. Neither Holmes nor Watson is a naturalist however, and there are a couple species in india that would fit the bill.  - I’m not going to bother trying to ID the snake conclusively, given that I believe that part of the case is complete fiction, but based on the diamond shaped head it’s probably supposed to be a viper. Russell’s viper, which would have been well known as a venomous snake in india, has spots. So does the Saw-scaled viper. Frankly, a lot of other vipers, including rattlesnakes, could also be said to look speckled, though rattlers at least warn you before they bite. - Also I am honor bound to tell you not to attempt to pick up a venomous snake using a leather noose. One: it’s a venomous snake and you are a creature susceptible to venom. Two: professional snake handling by naturalists, a thing that I know at least one thing about, takes great care not to compress the snake. The whole animal is just neck and ribcage. If you strangle it and throw it around you can hurt it pretty badly.
