There Is Pleasure in the Pathless Wood
by George Gordon Byron
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society where none intrudes, By the deep Sea, and music in its roar: I love not Man the less, but Nature more, From these our interviews, in which I steal From all I may be, or have been before, To mingle with the Universe, and feel What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.
Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean -- roll! Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain; Man marks the earth with ruin -- his control Stops with the shore; -- upon the watery plain The wrecks are all thy deed, nor doth remain A shadow of man’s ravage, save his own, When for a moment, like a drop of rain, He sinks into thy depths with bubbling groan, Without a grave, unknelled, uncoffined, and unknown.
His steps are not upon thy paths, -- thy fields Are not a spoil for him, -- thou dost arise And shake him from thee; the vile strength he wields For earth’s destruction thou dost all despise, Spurning him from thy bosom to the skies, And send'st him, shivering in thy playful spray And howling, to his gods, where haply lies His petty hope in some near port or bay, And dashest him again to earth: -- there let him lay.

January Dramione fanfic wrap-up *with links*
FULL-LENGTH:
Waifs and Strays by kyonomiko: very cute fluffy fic where draco is a cutiepie pine marten.
& Obey, Till Death Do Us Part by LongtimeLurker1111: his could’ve been a dark romance, but instead hermione decided to stay with “phin” theo and i just don’t understand it. the worst part wasn’t rapist draco bc he was the bad guy, it was rapist “phin” theo who was supposed to be good smut was nice at first.
Brand New World by NinaBinaBallerina: i loved loooved the beggining of this fic. then after they graduated and she found out she was pregnant i kinda lost the plot. i read until the point draco wanted her to move in with him while he was married to astoria and then i just skimmed until the epilogue.
In Silence And Submission by gillianeliza: this was a cool smutty bdsm fic, it had some nice things but i just think the writing was kinda wonky? nevertheless, very much enjoyed reading this.
The Fever by Flightglow32: this was supposed to be a smutty novelette but the smut happens in the very last chapter and only last five pages and we skim through the smut scenes like we’re a train on schedule and i just don’t understand why? especially because the fic was so sexual in its themes so why was the smut so lackluster??
Draconian by Noelle: It was like a really fluffy wartime with not-so big stakes, at first i thought how stragely whiny and crying hermione was all the time, but then we started to slowly find out what happened to her. I didn’t feel very much towards this story but it was entertaining and very readable.
Uncoffined by lady_of_clunn: it was nice, but due to the dubious ethics i’m quite conflicted of how i’m supposed to feel.
Damaged Goods by slytherin_after_dark: look, i know i had dnfed this when i had read only like one or two chapters, but lemme tell you how much i loed this fic when i picked it back up! it was all i needed - spicy, entertaining, angsty, with toxic but possessive and loving draco. although hermione felt ooc, it didn’t dim the reading experience.
The Politician's Wife by pir8fancier: this was so realistic, the romance was subtle but powerful, the little bit of smut we got was fantastic. also, it was incredibly well-written.
Seasons Pass (To This Ass) by mighbewriting: didn’t love it, but it was short, so i read it in one night. the smut was realistic as in how sex works but it wasn’t great smut if you know what i mean. loved draco’s quidditch player physique.
More Than One Way To Win by scullymurphy: i loooved the fake dating in this one, it was short but had all the scenes, i really liked it, although i wish there was more plot for after they got into an actual relationship.
Safe Home by khakis: cute kinda short kinda omegaverse story with draco as a werewolf but the werewolf part doesn’t play a huge part.
Breed by RoseDeVents: sooo muuuch breeeding.
The Curse of Malfoy Manor by alwaysaclaw11: a nice retelling of beauty and the beast, but it didn't leave a lasting impact on me.
Our Girl by geoblock: hands down the best smut i’ve ever read, and it's hermione x draco x theo x BLAISE
Innocent Monsters by itscometothis: very fluffy, but then draco gets depressed and a lot of attention is paid to his depression which i don’t mind, but it was a bit triggering. so not extremely fluffy, even though on of the tags was “tooth-rotting fluff”.
ONE-SHOTS:
Belladona by NinaBinaBallerina
(What’s a kink?) Between Friends by morriganmercy
Bond by spicyxpisces
Tell Me by GardenAtTwilight
Keep Me Safe by Skyfire2459

Marked as Mine by LilithShade
WORKS IN-PROGRESS:

(all three of these are pretty dark and ansgty and VERY well written, i usually don't read wips)

Hi! I'm looking for this fanfic: Hermione hides her identity because Voldemort is winning the war (or won the war). Draco meets her but doesn't know it's her because she changed her face with a spell. She loses her virginity to him. She stays at his house for a while. One day Draco gets drunk with Blaise and the two have sex with Hermione. The next day, Blaise gives Hermione the earrings as a gift. Hermione gives the earrings to Draco, I think she said something like he should get his share because she sees it as selling her as a whore. Thanks for answers and for this great website.
Anyone?
Edit: Thanks!

Ishmael, for the love of all that’s holy - if you’re going to quote Byron, fucking quote him properly! Your version:
“Roll on, thou deep and dark blue ocean, roll!      Ten thousand blubber-hunters sweep over thee in vain.”
The correct version from Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage:
CLXXIX
Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean—roll!
Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain
Although, now that I’m reading that full stanza - you’re doing more foreshadowing, aren’t you?
the full stanza:
CLXXIX.
Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean—roll!   Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain;   Man marks the earth with ruin—his control   Stops with the shore;—upon the watery plain   The wrecks are all thy deed, nor doth remain   A shadow of man's ravage, save his own,   When for a moment, like a drop of rain,   He sinks into thy depths with bubbling groan, Without a grave, unknelled, uncoffined, and unknown.

I just saw another fic with Manacled vibes and just ugh. The authors go out of their way to 'change' the plot, or choose synonyms for 'high reeve' to not be just like Manacled but with the same essence. People need to let it goooo
It is very popular, so it makes sense that people would try to replicate the tropes so they can market their own fic as a Manacled-inspired fic to bring in the original fans to their story.
But I have read fics that are older than Manacled and they use similar titles for Draco and is a Voldemort wins AU fic, so it's not that they are specifically using Manacled as a reference. If they are going down the whole Handmaid's Tale inspiration, then yeah you can say that they are using Manacled. But a Voldemort wins, dark romance AU where Draco has a special title and is Voldy's right hand man, eh there are a few like that which predates Mancled. lady_of_clunn's Uncoffined for example, which just happens to be the fic SenLinYu got her "high reeve" title from. It is also a very dark romance au, Draco is a powerful death eater, that involves non-con and slavery elements.

Short Dramione fic review (and some spoilers too)
I just finished reading Initially Yours by Hufflepuffmommy for god knows how many days I've been trying to finish.
Although there weren't that many words, I just took my time. I didn't feel the anxiety of missing out on Dramione fics anymore, compared to the beginning of this year, when I had just finished Manacled.
This fic was so fluffy and lighthearted I felt weird. I have read Manacled, Uncoffined, Mudblood(dnf), and Water(dnf), all of which are dark in nature, that I got used to the heart wrenching, gut stretching feelings.
What weirded me out even more was that all of them were partnered. Like, I'm happy for them, and it's like reading this teenage school fic. 😂
Astoria x Harry, Theo x Daphne, Pansy x Seamus, Ginny x Blaise, Luna x Neville.
There weren't that many dramas too. It's so lighthearted I got a bit lightheaded. It was lovely though.
This fic started with not even them being enemies. There weren't fights nor misunderstandings that took chapters. If anything happened, they'd be resolved in the same chapter that it happened.
I'm glad there was still smut in it though.
HEA.

Uncoffined
@a-mag-a-day I'm being Extremely Normal about the tapes today.
[I’m scared? When does the fear go away?... A-Anyway, I’m sorry.]
'Understanding' never was Beholding's strong suit, and much less with an Archivist who was impulsive and reckless and arrogant and oh-so-quick to throw himself out into the gutter for a misguided concept of 'doing good'. He never did give himself enough time to think things through, never grasped that he might need it; the difference between knowing and comprehending. Always too caught up in the big picture to understand the details. I suppose, in many ways, that is the role we play in this particular thread of history, if the wordplay will be excused. We are happy enough to help the Watcher, as long as it will behave and not make trouble.
[Inside of that wooden coffin, there was a staircase. It went down, apparently into the ground below, and seemed to go on as deep as I could see.]
A rib. It was funny at first, and then it was not funny anymore, not when the Archivist actually went through with it and thought it would be enough. Funny for an Archivist to give such importance to matters of flesh and bone. We almost wanted to leave him there, trapped deep below creation, a nifty little solution to set Jonah's plan back at least several years. But he was at least smart enough to take a recorder with him, and Choke did not deserve to have him. He is Ours.
[I can feel the knowledge pushing at my mind, eager to find a way in. But I don’t want it. I don’t want to know. I don’t want to see.]
So tape recorders slowly started to show up in the Archives. In the storage rooms. On the floor. In Cupboards. On the floor. But they never could make it on top of the coffin— never, in all of their threading and playing and spinning and spooling, could get hold of their sibling inside.
[I think he thinks that the distance keeps us safe, you know? Like, like, if he just makes sure that we’re not involved, we’re somehow fine.]
He understood quick enough, the Lonely Spinner, when the recorders began to pile up on his desk, to take them back. He stacked them high and left them running, and sat on the ground, filling the Archives with a thick, heavy fog and leaving the recorders and the wooden floor tear-stained.
[We were speeding towards the scene, but couldn’t do anything but listen to it over the radio.]
Their voices wove together beautifully; the Archivist's and the Hunter's and the Lonely Spinner's and the Detective's. Their web stretched far and below and grasped its threads right around its missing link and pulled it closer within its entombment.
The rib lay inert in a desk drawer. The detective burst into the room— one missing tape spooling away her name on her desk, pulling her and the Hunter ever closer.
[Elias is keeping me busy. Hunting. Takes a while. I’m used to working with a partner... It’s fine.]
The Archivist was left to turn the tape recorders off. Thread by thread he undid the web that had been his salvation.
The last was left running until the end.
[We really need you, Jon. Everything’s – It’s bad. I-I don’t know how much longer we can do this. We – I need you.]
He always was a bit sentimental. He should hold on to it— it might just be what we need.

Spoutaná (Manacled)
Spoutaná (Manacled) https://ift.tt/zUwmHMe by goldenfox_and_emptiness Harry Potter is dead. In the aftermath of the war, in order to strengthen the might of the magical world, Voldemort enacts a repopulation effort. Hermione Granger has an Order secret, lost but hidden in her mind, so she is sent as an enslaved surrogate to the High Reeve until her mind can be cracked. Illustrated by Avendell. Warning: This work is dark. Rape and non-consensual sex are a significant and ongoing aspect of the plot. There are also character deaths, psychological trauma, descriptions of battlefield violence, and references to torture. Reader discretion is advised. Author’s Note: The characters in this story are not mine: they belong to JK Rowling, whom I happen to not be. The initial inspiration of this plot occurred when watching the first episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. In homage there are elements of it maintained throughout the story. The title High Reeve was drawn from Lady_of_Clunn’s use in her story Uncoffined. This story diverges from canon following the conclusion of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. OKAY SO:
She's an emotionally burnt out gifted kid in college that is... not in the best mental state, especially before joining Strega. She put a hit on herself in the revenge website because she was just done with everything. (Literally waited for them on a roof while she had been turned into a coffin before they uncoffined her).
Takaya decided 'hey, she can be useful to us, and her hope in humanity is basically nonexistent, lets have her join' and that's how she joined Strega as their treasurer. She buys the equipment from some shady shops she knows and manages the money.
Depending on the f/o route, after Chidori's death, she can choose to either stay with Strega (which she fights alongside Jin in the tower), or join S.E.E.S (after asking them to kill her and they refuse).
Her Persona is Lucifer, she awakens it with both Chidori and Jin' help and encouragement.
i wanna give her a hug now :<
ohh i did do some p3! Aliza lore + her pov on meeting togo :D

We got paper on the way!! We got ink--and the printer--and tons of mulberry paper, somewhere, for making book cloth out of not-bookcloth.
Then I ordered the book cloth--hell yeah! And because this is a book for reading, not just a lil sketchbookie.........I bought binding tape.............I still don't think I'm going to purchase proper davey board >.>
I even bought a roll of ribbon just for this project, for a fancy bookmark! I have silver thread, I have any cardstock I might need. I'm getting the covers figured out.
I think all that's left is figuring out my end pages. I only have four spreads to work with for end pages and I'm most likely going to use the Avendell art. I love the idea of the last set of end pages being Draco loving his daughter. And the back cover of the second volume has to be what looks like a yearbook photo.
I'm lowkey suddenly kinda obsessed with DraMione right now, so that's going to look weird in the future to whoever gets their hands on my bookshelves. Oooh, speaking of bookshelves, I don't presently own any. I let the ex have the shitty five-dollar ones we bought. They were too flimsy to move and I deserve better.
I'm just going to do a really easy typeset for Uncoffined. It's got me feeling very Libraries of Yore where we have preserved, extant texts referring to texts that were lost. I can't lose the texts, if I can help it.
I wonder if there are other fucked up ships I can get into............. I'm not really a die-hard-to-the-core fan of anything else........I don't really read much these days; it turns out you can train the dyslexia out of your brain, but if you don't keep that part of your brain active, it, like everything else in your body, will atrophy. So reading is really hard for me, especially if I'm trying to enjoy it, not just wring out the information.

There’s this poem by Hardy that I associate very heavily with the Captain called Drummer Hodge, and the main reason I pair the two so deeply is because of the way the poem is discussed in the play The History Boys by Alan Bennett.
The poem itself (which you can read here) is about the burial of a young soldier in a land that was not his own, a soldier named Hodge. In the play a student recites the poem and then he and his teacher analyze it, the two main things they discuss being the name Hodge, and the use of the term “uncoffined.” In regards to the name, the teacher says:
“The important thing is that he has a name. Say Hardy is writing about the Zulu Wars or later the Boer Wars possibly, these were the first campaigns when soldiers... or common soldiers... were commemorated, the names of the dead recorded and inscribed on war memorials. Before this, soldiers... private soldiers anyway, were all unknown soldiers (...) So thrown into a common grave though he may be, he is still Hodge the drummer. Lost boy though he is on the other side of the world, he still has a name.”
Obviously in relation to the Captain this harkens back to the facts that we still don’t know his name (and to a lesser degree his occupancy of Button House). Unlike Hodge, the Captain has lost this identity in death and thus is lost through and through.
As for “uncoffined” they talk about Hardy’s (and subsequently Larkin’s) use of compound adjectives, ’un-’ in front of a noun or verb, and list some other examples. Un-kissed, un-rejoicing, un-confessed, un-embraced. “And with both of them it brings about a sense of not sharing, of being out of it. Whether because of diffidence or shyness, but a holding back.” If that’s not the Captain I don’t know what is.
Anyways, not to write an essay about it, but while I’m pretty confident in guessing that the Captain’s name is not either Hardy or Hodge, wouldn’t it be lovely if it was?
