anytime you both go out for errands, toji is extremely territorial of you. after all, you are the one nice thing to have happened to him in the longest time, of course he's gonna protect you with his entire being

anytimes someone looks at you a way he doesn't like, he just gives them a death glare. he doesn't even have to growl at them, one look is enough, and it doesn't help he's so massive. no one is going to mess with you on his watch, especially not while your cooing over those little fluffy heart socks, trying to find a pair for you and him

but the doctors office? he hates it. hates it so fucking much that now he understands what those little brats are whining and crying about. he doesn't rememebr the last time he's seen a doctor and he's 1000% sure he's never seen a doctor that was actually kind to him.

but he trusted you. after all, he saw how you grumbled over your keyboard, trying to find a doctor that accepted hybrids with a 4.8 out of 5 rating and nothing less.

still, tht doesnt stop him from growling at the woman when she brings in that fucking needle, expecting him to be fine with putting it in his arm. you have to hold his head to your neck, having him focus on your scent as you stroke and scratch behind his ears, his growling growing quieter as he picks up the faint scent of lavender on your clothes and the addicting scent of your perfume, only growling a little bit when he felt the needle poke him. but you easily shushed him, telling him he's being such a good boy and he's just melting into you, a rumbling in his chest at all your attention.

the thing about link click is that despite all the time travel and other action-focused stuff, everything is ddriven by love. platonic love, romantic love, familial love (both biological and not). and cheng xiaoshi is the centre of all of it.

emma's fate was all because she loved her family. the noodle ladies found each other again because they loved each other. chen xiao loved so much - his team, the girl, his mother. liu siwen fought every year to be with his true love. doudou's family hung onto hope because they loved their son. xu shanshan and dong yi were an adorable college romance. li tianchen and li tianxi did everything because they loved each other. chen bin loves his wife and unborn child dearly. qiao ling and cheng xiaoshi protect each other because of love. lu guang is doing what he does because of love.

and at the heart of all this is cheng xiaoshi. he tries to convince emma to live. he delivered chen xiao's heartfelt messages. he brought doudou back. he granted chen bin a little more happiness etc etc. none of link click would happen without cheng xiaoshi as the main character, because nobody has as big of a heart as him, and nobody else can shoulder the weight of so much love on their hands

and that is what dooms him in the end

i know this is a sampo blog but i must ramble, my apologies. that one chat where aventurine is like 'let's play a dice game, i'll tell you about what happened if you win' and then intentionally loses so he can talk about what he went through is SICKENING 😭 i think it reveals a lot of his inner turmoil and conflict: he's lonely and wanted to talk to someone but reluctant to express vulnerability and blatantly admit that. he instead has to frame it as some sort of 'game' in which the other person is 'making' him reveal the information (even though he discusses having nightmares, which is more detail than he originally offered when he proposed the deal). he claims that the trailblazer is lucky to get the full story from him - further framing the exchange as him doing the trailblazer a service - but then indirectly acknowledges that they were actually doing him a favor when he thanks them for helping him. he even displays a bit of insecurity in hoping that he wasn't a bother. idk it just shows that even when he's opening up to someone he still needs to maintain control and have the upper hand to some extent.
