Spring 2024 - Week 11 in Review
Hello folks, and welcome back to Wrong Every Time. This week I’m riding high on the back of another successful DnD session, as I lead my players through a post-campaign island adventure with a clear Indiana Jones coat of paint. It’s becoming a tricky thing to provide meaningful challenges for my party of heroes; DnD is reasonably well-balanced from around level four to level twelve (the point…

Paul Burke: Alia Shawkat's Cool Grandfather
Paul Burke: Alia Shawkat’s Cool Grandfather
Fans of actor Paul Burke (1926-2009) may object to the title of this post, but I submit it in the calculated spirit in of my earlier Anne Gwynne: Chris Pine’s Cool Grandmother, which is within the top of 1% of all 7,000 Travalanche posts in terms of readership. No hook, no readers, and a contemporary angle is a hook. Best as I can, I try to make connections between Then and Now: it’s kind of the…

'Twelve O'Clock High' – Gregory Peck faces the pressure of command on Criterion Channel
‘Twelve O’Clock High’ – Gregory Peck faces the pressure of command on Criterion Channel

He believes that Davenport is too emotionally involved with his…

Building #Godskingdom takes #tenacity and #courage. Just like our #veterans
This past summer Bob and I enjoyed visiting my parents in their beautiful Midwest retirement community—it’s like a college campus for the over-60 crowd.  They’re incredible!  Interestingly, we were also roaming around the California Redwood Forest just few weeks prior to that, and in my mind, there is a striking resemblance between the two in more ways than one, if you get my drift.
Now a retired…

10 Movies To Watch Before Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Can you feel it? The arrival of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is so close that you can almost see the comforting sight of paragraphs floating through space. It’s pretty surreal to think that we’re currently living in a world where we’ll be treated to a new Star Wars opus every year for the foreseeable future, but knowing that we’re on the cusp of witnessing the eighth episode of the main story arc is…

Memorial Day - 2015
Memorial Day – 2015
It’s Monday, 25 May, 2015; Memorial Day here in the United States. This is the day we remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.
Today, I remember my grandfather, Lt. Herbert David Edelstein. He was a navigator aboard a B-17 bomber (no known nickname or nose art), 367th Bombardment Squadron – Heavy, 306th Bombardment Group (“The Reich Wreckers”, tail insignia “Triangle H”),…
