Sorry, but can I ask this question? How do you imagine fell and swap options/versions of tear sans? (swap version of tear sans is not Napstablook! but his cousin Mettaton! Mettablook? Hutstablook or whatever?)
Oh wow. Tear variant/different AU questions already? Consider my answer a headcanon, as I'm not gonna be creating and developing these AUs.
Fell Tear loathes Sans, because canon UF!Blooky loathes anyone affiliated with Asgore/Alphys. But in reality it's somewhat of a love-hate situation. Sans has qualities UF!Tear finds themselves respecting and admiring, but they can't help but hate the guy regardless for the side he found himself on. They pretty much become a Sans to show they can do everything better, while trying to gain said qualities themselves. The biggest one being how Fell Sans gets general respect from monsters. Monsters just avoid ever messing with the skeleton brothers. UF!Tear could be a little jealous that a part of it feels handed over, just because of who their brother is. Even though realistically, Sans had to work for it too. UF!Tear also respects Sanses visual 'scare factor'. Underfell is all about looking edgy and more intimidating than Undertale cast. I imagine that UF!Tear design would likely wear some torn jacket (like their blooky body sheet). It used to be this brand new looking jacket. It ends up badly torn in places from magic attacks in UF!Tear's attempts of 'getting respect'. But because of how painfully honest they are about their opinions and not keeping it to themselves, they end up hurting others. It results in a bunch of fights. They are surprisingly not that bad of a person despite it all, as long as you aren't on their bad side. Might still say some hurtful things to you though.
Swap Tear/Mettaton Tear would just have to be something about entertainment. In Undertale, just like Tear did, Mettaton already acts on their greatest wish. They want to be a celebrity, known in the entertainment industry. Maybe Swap Tear gets their body for the same reasons the game Mettaton got his. Maybe they are in the stage of just deciding to act on their goals and they see this tiny skeleton with oh so much energy. And every time chasing their dream gets hard, they remember Sans powering through everything. And it fuels them to always strive for more, always try that much harder. They need to work harder to become a popular entertainer. And that means they need to pass the barrier to get even humans to watch them. Swap Tear needs to be 'the best of both worlds' to achieve true greatness. But they also wanna be acknowledged and liked by Sans. And what is the closest, not-craftable, monster body to resemble a human? a skeleton. And who are they trying to impress the most? a skeleton. Probably fights the other 'mettaton' on the popularity leaderboards.

Hii, how are you?
Here I bring some old drawings I drew last year of Mars.
These were his first designs, he was trying to create a y2k style alien, 2 things I like very much.
Currently his design I adapted it more to the icy snowding weather.., or rather the Au.
★WARNING LORE★
In short, Mars is a Constellation, hence the old Au name.
I was guided by a constellation that existed in a non-"legal" form which according to its creator was in the shape of a cat, I call this one "felix".
When I read some of the history of this constellation, it occurred to me to try to include it as part of the script.
Gaster, in my Au, is the father of Papyrus and Chara.
He created Chara from a meteorite that fell near his house, he tried to recreate the "human" form that he longed to meet.
Seeing that it had been a success, he adopted it.
Although he was fine up to that point, one day Gaster, while in his study, discovered that on the "star map" there were a series of stars that looked like a cat when put together.
This confused the astrologer who had no idea of the existence of more constellations..., so he became obsessed with the idea of "creating" a new one.
After 2 years, felix, or as Gaster calls it "cosmos", was "born".
He hid him from the others and raised him in his laboratory, in order to create a body for him and thus be able to capture the new constellation on his map.
Even so, he could not get the king to make this constellation approved.
Leaving "felix" as a constellation.... But at the same time no.
When gaster died, anything referring to "felix" was completely removed from the map.
It was not approved because of lack of time not enough data.
Even so, before he died Gaster compressed Cosmos and kept it in a small capsule,
There were the designs that he had planned to create his body, but that he could not finish because of his illness.
Years later, Alphys entered the laboratory of his former boss (Gaster) and there, among the dust and dirt accumulated over the years, he found the small capsule. It had a name but the ink had been erased, like half of the drawings that only arms or an eye could be seen.
Alphys, after a few months, discovered that it was a non-existent constellation, but it was still alive.
This one, I tried to put the drawings together and with that I tried to reference to create the body of the compressed star.
And nothing, something like that is my Au.
Cosmos=Mars, as they didn't know its name and in the drawings alphys confused something else with alien antennas, he decided to call it "mars" which looked nice.
His design changed after 5 years, where alphys designed a better and more suitable for the cold temperatures of that place, besides removing the star-shaped pupils, to make it more "alien".
Also, he was guided by looking at the designs of the sanses of the other Au's, trying to copy that skeletal shape like Papyrus.

Hey! I'm a little confused here, what exactly is the difference between Lusttale and Underlust?
I know you said it's a revamp of sorts but I'm just genuinely confused on what the differences are.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly are the icks you have with Underlust that originally made you want to redo this AU? I've only ever really seen either the decent aspects of it or the fanon versions so I don't really know most of people's issues apart from the... Weird thing about Chara being in.. That kinda clothing.
Heyy! Ill try to explain :3 <3
Differences i wanted were these:
- Make the storyline more fluid and organized, idk felt like the og story rushed through to try and reach certain parts sooner
- Flesh out characters past the sexual deviant who have random, often uncalled for bursts of angst ( or just have ZERO self control )
- I tried to make some characters make better sense. Example, Chara and their trait/design, the reason for Frisk even going, ect - Give background characters a chance to be shown, not saying the WHOLE au with EVERY monster has to be designed, but its atleast nice and feels more detailed ( even Jerry eyeroll )
^ The AU also switched between being owned by the creator, to the creators mutual ( iirc ), to then being a community owned AU since the OG owner left it for mental health reasons. I originally wanted to continue the story, but rebuilding characters in a way it still resembles the original story with a few kind of tweaks helps it feel new, think like Ink Sans's redesign!
These were icks:
- Some characters had almost nothing fleshed out abt them, i totally understand why some dont (hard to flesh out a entire cast, some characters dont give enough to build off of, ect) but its personality stumping if the character is only shown for a sex joke or be background characters to another angst, example Alphys, shown very little unless to comment on MTT's body, or to be the one to help him (MTT one IS important but after that i barely remember her character outside that..) - I know that separating creator from creation is best way to go about some things, though knowing that they heavily shipped Fontcest (which their own AU was prone to have) and had done nsfw Frans art is gross enough for me to wanna not engage with the original au (small non UL related was a Nazi Chara they drew once, shockvalue humor or not why would you?)
- MTT's plot. I really hate how it went. Its not something im gonna remove, but its something i wanna try and do in a way that doesnt feel so abrupt yk? If that makes sense :,D
Other then the few points i can really give, i also just thought it would be nice to give UL a fresh coat of paint. Not like "i took things into my own hands", but just "this made me and alot uncomfortable, the AU is kinda just sitting there, lets try it " !

The mental story that keeps popping up for Swapfell Past is when Black and Alphy are both still tiny lil'tots and just learning lots of things...
Cue Papyrus is starting to hang out with a really bad influenced friend; Said friend comes over, Papyrus has to watch the kids and the friend starts teaching them curse words. Alphy's smart enough to give him glares and ignore him- Black, not so much...
In fact, with the intentions and the fact any negative feels are what Black was designed for to do; He craves it... Reason why he has such a bad baby/toddler stage. So, like to think his cursing habit at such a young age started with that bad friend and...
I got the image of Papyrus legit trying to get his new friend to stop; Said friend says 'fuck off' or something, lil'Black copies said friend; big Daddy Li comes in, just catching that last sentence and he is pissed...
I see Papyrus like 'oh shit' and friend goes; 'oh, mega shit... uh, ima head out?' And maybe something that makes both boys run. Papyrus trips over his own feet and he's like; 'why am i runnin'?! i can port--' and friend latches onto him like 'then fuckin' port us!!' and Pap's like; 'no!! get off, it doesn't work like tha'!' Or something, when really he's not strong enough to do two people, lolol.
Idk, this has just been on my brain for a while now and I keep chuckling. Maybe if Papyrus and friend started doing drugs together in their house, then maybe... So much going on in my brain, man.

Alterspin take stuff
hey all scottme here
anyways a little under a year ago i made designs for an alterspin take and the designs sucked balls so i wanted to change that character personalities below
character idea for my alterspin might change some of these at some point:
papyrus: a washed up has been who never got into the royal guard but does merc missions for them regardless.
sans is sans he doesn't take anything seriously wears a robe around town has a stain on his fairly nice shirt that is heavily beaten up
chara concept for design and personality: to have a machine that resembles porkey's design from mother 3, plays to be more sadistic than undertale's mettaton but really doesn't actually care that much about the conflit between humans and monsters only wanting to support themself and maddie (yes the mad dummy is still in alphys's role because it's funny)
EDIT: potential chara redesign:
more character stuff: asgore and toriel:
toriel renamed to tori was the first human to fall into the underground and met asgore when they were young, over time the two fell in love and eventually got married but their honeymoon was abruptly cut short when asgore taking care of kingly duties gets the horrifying news that the royal guard has found a human and seized their soul. in a fit of rage he attacks every single member of the guard nearly killing them all only being stopped by gerson the then captain of the guard. the guard in a panic decided that gerson would become ruler until they could find a better leader and covered up the kings death in order to not lose hope or have people look down upon his legacy claiming the human was violent and killed the guard members and their king...
many years later, when undyne had become the ruler of the underground and gerson was a person of the past the current royal scientist a ghost inhabiting a dummy was doing experiments with determination and, in order to try and get with the semi recent divorcé undyne tried making her something special a flower arrangement using the golden flowers from her garden and use determination on the flowers to see what would happen and give it to her as a gift...
however, the experiment worked a bit too well and the flowers were all gone.

Octagram
This is his final redesign, I swear.
Bio: Being the son of your entire region's number one tennis coach can be a lot, especially if you're the eldest. PJ here struggles with being expected to live up to his father's model, but he'd rather study other things. For a while, he's been secretly studying Battlemage magic under Nightmare's guidance - Nightmare being their history teacher for third period.
Basic Info Full Name: Paperjam Candy Charcoal Brightwell Nicknames: PJ, CC (by Cocoa Berry only) Age: 18 Height: 5'4" Gender Identity: Demiboy (he/they) Sexual Orientation: Biromantic Demisexual Medical Issues: Autism Spectrum Disorder [ASD], Depression, Anxiety Can't Leave the House Without: Glasses, phone, earbuds, backpack, car and house keys, something with octagons on it
Relationships Error - Father, not as good as either them want it to be Cocoa Berry - Mother, decent Cil - Brother, trying to bridge gaps Lemon Zest - Sister, annoying Undyne - Best friend, basically siblings Hunter - Friend, salty buddies Skrunkly - Friend, yippee kin Wallace - New friend, getting used to the weed smell Romper - New friend, wants to design a logo for their band Papyrus - New friend, always gets sampled secretly Outer - New friend, thinks he's cute BonBon - New friend, she likes their art Starbone - New friend, can't quite understand him... yet Alphys - Acquaintance, they have fun trash talking normal people
Miscellaneous Little Facts - He has the second name "Candy" because of his mother. On her side of the family, everyone has two names corresponding with food, as per tradition. If Error didn't intervene, PJ would've been named "Cake Pop." - The symbol in the middle of his octagram is the symbol for Loyalty, and its color is represented with purple. - PJ struggles with explosive anger. When I say "explosive," I mean that literally. - They play tennis. - He wears mostly comfy clothes, like sweaters, overalls, sweatpants, baggy jeans, etc. - Error wants PJ to eventually play tennis on a regional level, but they don't wanna do that. They see tennis as more of a hobby. - PJ is a pretty good artist. - He has a Rumblr blog where he posts his art called Flowy Paintbrush. - Due to playing sports most of his life, he's endured a lot of injuries. - Although their relationship is a little rocky, Error and PJ still work out every Sunday. This is why PJ is a little more toned compared to his peers. - Charcoal was his grandfather's name (on his dad's side). - He's allergic to dust. - They got into Battemage magic from Nightmare's class. It came up in a lesson and PJ wanted to know more. - PJ's anger issues have given them the reputation as the aggressive athlete type around school, and even in some pockets around town. - When he graduates, he plans on signing up for the "Gates to Education" program, which will allow him to study magic in a whole other Realm. - They're part Fire Elemental. This is from their mother's side, stemming from their Grandpa. This is why their anger is especially explosive. - He sucks at math. - Mac and cheese is his number one comfort food, and that will never change. - Some days after school, PJ goes to work for their mother at her bakery. - In two years, they'll inherit their mother's family recipes. However, they already have a couple of their dad's family recipes. - Yes. You can roast marshmallows over their head when they flare up. They get that hot.

Decadent Society MODERN
So uh, this one i'll have to rewrite, as despite still having the original info stored in my computer, i feel like it would be a lot better if i tried to re-explain some points about the characters (specially since a lot of info that i have saved is in fact outdated, lol)
So, what was the concept of this "modern" version of Decadent Society? I'm not... sure? Like, at first when i was making this new version, i was actually doing it so i could give the AU a fresh coat of paint, i wasn't going to change the main storyline or anything, i just wanted to make the characters look less like a swapfell ripoff, but after a while i guess i gave the AU the concept that, after the monsters got locked up on the underground, Asgore began to start forcing everyone to get prepared for a possible second war he wanted to have with the humans, so a lot of places and monsters were now dedicated to training and getting themselves prepared for when a second war broke out I did not remember this being kinda similar to negativetale, but oh well
So yeah, the AU was meant now to give more focus on the whole war thing Asgore wanted to do, giving some emphasis on him being actually serious this time and shit. I never developed the concept of the AU too much, mostly because i think i was trying to change it for the sake of being different? I wasn't doing it because i had a good idea in mind that sounded better than the old version, i was doing it because i strongly believed i HAD to
So, uh onto all the characters i have developed
Frisk: no info about them that i can remember, so i guess we can say they are pretty much the same
Flowey: So apparently he's somewhat more similar to the original flowey, but due to being so oppressed by the world around him, he eventually grew way too afraid to keep on going on trying to be threatening, as he now only attacks others when he's afraid of them, and constantly tries to hide himself out.
Napstablook: His concept was that instead of being depressed, he's so lonely that he became somewhat insane, or at least a little bit crazy. Simple as that
Toriel: I don't remember her fully, but i believe the idea for her is that she became much more about surviving rather than keeping on going with the motherly personality that she has, sure she will help Frisk, but they will never be her main priority.
Sans: He's depressed and lonely, and has a small mania of trying to call Papyrus several times a day, mostly because of not being able to see him in person anymore after Paps was drafted. None of his calls get answered.
Papyrus: He got drafted, and now undergoes through heavy training in order to be a perfect soldier for when the second war eventually breaks out. He's a lot more quiet and serious than his original undertale counterpart, and always takes his duty over his morals, despite knowing that some of the stuff he's forced to do is wrong.
Undyne: Leader of the army, nothing much to say about her except that she's fierce, remorseless and definitely doesn't question any single one of Asgore's orders, them being shady or not.
Alphys: I guess her concept was that she's a tired scientist forced to produce weapons for Asgore's army, tho her old design indicates that she also had a knack for engineering robots and cyborg like appendages.
Mettaton: I genuinely don't remember what he was about, but i guess he was more focused on the whole television thing? I do remember his old box design had a concept where he only speaks via the programs that he was managed to show on his screen, so he basically had to talk via sentence mixing lol
Asgore: Big bad guy, desperately wants to start a war with humans again, mostly out of spite than anything else.
Asriel and Chara: idk what their concepts were about, i think Asriel was like, a neglected kid because Asgore is an asshole and Toriel was too busy, and Chara was like, his kinda weird friend. Idk how they were supposed to die or something
Muffet: Oh wow, i actually made more characters aside from the main cast. So, the concept for Muffet is that she's a famous movie star and was a main adversary for Mettaton's business. Yeah that was it, the concept was cool but i never got too deep on it lol
Burgerpants: He's a drug dealer, he had to start selling shady shit because he got laid off from his job at Mettaton's hotel for being too incompetent.
Nice Cream Guy: weird emo guy, very anxious and scared about stuff. Apparently there was a concept about him having an abusing girlfriend? Which explained why he had to wear a collar, they were kinky, but the woman was kinda of a bitch to her or something. Idk lmao
Temmie: Also some kind of dealer, tho instead of Burgerpants that just sold straight up drugs, Temmie just sells knockoff stuff, while also giving out temmie flakes.
Monster kid: I remember he was kinda cute, he was actually gonna be a companion for Frisk during the majority of the story, not only through waterfall. He was like, a heavily bullied kid that loved doing art, which was funny since he don't got arms, so he actually learned to draw using his mouth.
And i think that was it? I don't actually have much information i remember about, since i erased a lot of the stuff i've made for the au because i wanted the modern version "forgotten" or something, idk lmao But there you go, this is why you see a lot of people for whatever reason drawing decadent society sans with a blue eye or with a hoodie with camo patterns, it's because of this cancelled version of the AU best way to take this info i provided is to look back at that shitty drawing i made with the main cast + some side characters

Scar's World Synops ;3
Cw: Death, Violence, Cannibalism, Starvation, General Horror Badtimes McGee
Scar's world is Horrortale-Inspired world. I also take some inspiration from Axetale [I enjoy the visceral horror designs/concepts, but as a heads up it is a Frans AU].
I don't have a name for Scar's particular version, or designs n shit for anyone, b/c really just fleshed this out a bit for Scar. :3
Anyway:
The Underground
Neutral Route -
Frisk fought a lot of the monsters in the ruins out of a sense of fear and self-defense despite Toriel's guidance. They have a hard time with Toriel, not just because she's a boss monster, but because it feels bad.
They turn a lot more pacifist as they journey through Snowdin and befriend Papyrus. They don't befriend Undyne though, and struggle between wanting to fight her and running away. So when Undyne faints they leave her.
This all ends with Asgore dying and then the Flowey fight. Frisk does defeat Flowey but dies in the process, and as a result all the determination in Frisk, Flowey, and the 6 human souls gets released into the underground and corrupts it.
All the save stars pop and the Core starts to malfunction.
Post-Neutral -
Undyne takes over and militarizes like Sans says in his message. The Cores malfunctioning makes energy and food difficult leading to more and more rationing and things are looking more and more bleak as it continues to fail. It regularly stalls.
Monsters start falling down but they don't dust as quickly as they should, their bodies lingering for longer. Wounds are much milkier and gooier. After some testing Alphys finds that the monsters have all contracted DT Syndrome - an effect of the ambient DT in their underground.
The amalgamates, already very hungry creatures, escape during a Core outage. Due to their ravenous frenzied hunger they devour Alphys who accepts her fate. Undyne finds her remains and loses her mind, attempting to kill the Amalgamates but they just...reassemble in crude ways. Many consider the lab cursed and New Home is cut off from the rest of the underground.
Without access to the lab, and with Alphys gone, the Core fails.
Undyne does not recover from Alphys' loss and her horrors of fighting with the amalgamates. She returns to waterfall to stalk the swampy waters. She eventually becomes a horrific beast.
Before that, however, Papyrus is distraught over the loss of his friends. Sans, knowing something is wrong, goes to check on Undyne for Papyrus [because he doesnt want Papyrus to do it]. This leads to him getting attacked by Undyne and he barely makes it back to Snowdin where Papyrus manages to keep him alive and looks after him while he recovers.
Waterfall becomes impassable, with Papyrus warning Snowdin away and in general trying to just keep Snowdin and its residents generally ok.
Things fall apart over time as the hunger takes over. Monsters physically change in response to their circumstances, and it gets worse when they fall to desperate violence fueled by the ambient DT. The combination of LV and DT Syndrome combined makes monsters beastly and easily prone to feral frenzies. Their actions get more and more horrific as time passes and their underground decays.
The monsters of Snowdin slowly separate more and more until they're essentially in family units and violent to everyone else [and even to each other].
Scar
Scar is a very close variant of Kelek so you can just...imagine regular Kelek to start with. Scar is a surface monster, a decedent of monsters that didn't get trapped underground and live in hiding on the surface.
For whatever reason he ends up falling down like the humans before [perhaps for unhappy reasons]. The ruins are completely empty when he falls and he lingers for a while primarily because he's very confused on where he is.
He eventually finds his way out but unfortunately the door locks behind him, leaving what little food was left in Toriel's home unreachable.
Since he is in his human-disguise he ends up having a confrontation with the local monsters and he gets hurt. He manages to run away terrified and ends up removing his seal to blend in. While they don't recognize his species Snowdin accepts him well enough.
Waterfall is off limits by the time he's there, and has been since a little before he actually fell. Scar stays at the Inn, helping out however he can - one way is using his comfy magic to help ease the monsters and make some objects. But it gets more and more difficult to use.
He ends up offering his unwanted meat after considering and testing the waters. He recovers from the procedure at the Inn with regular checkups with a resident Snowdin healer/doctor/whatever. This all occurs over a series of months, meaning the hunger is getting worse and worse.
To the point that Scar is betrayed at his last checkup and he loses his eye. He flees to the forest, no longer trusting others, especially after hearing whispered plans of betrayal. Paranoia festers in the underground and Scar is not spared.
He honestly figures he'll die, but he may as well try [perhaps slightly linked to the ambient DT]. Obviously he survives, starting with small shelters. He becomes stronger due to frenzies that force his hand; and as he loses his mind and becomes more beastly himself, his need to defend his territory for safety increases. He loses his left ear when he's almost blinded in a fight, and ends up scaring off his opponent.
He ate his own ear.
He rarely goes to Snowdin for desperate supply runs since it is extremely dangerous. He's gotten decent at making his own tools, and will strip twigs and things to make his own thread but he prefers spools.
He's barely surviving but has ended up fairly strong in his own right, to the point he is feared in frenzy.
His world does not have a happy ending. I imagine when Snaps showed up that Scar's world is actively dying, and Scar would certainly end up dying in the future [either to starvation, the elements, or devoured].
#maybe ill draw this out sometime but i thought id give people a general idea of what i envision#skfhskjfd#this was longer than i planned#and i still think i forgot some deets#but thats the just#skelekins writes#scar#scar's world#scar lore#idk how to tag this lmao

Undertale University AU??
Hellooo I am new(ish) to tumblr and also the Undertale fandom but I just finished the game a few weeks ago (played neutral and pacifist, watched genocide on youtube because i do not want to kill them myself) !!!! And I loved it a lot so I am finally passionate enough about something to be creative with it So I was like why not make an AU-type thing where everyone goes to university? It's probably been done before (?) but whatever I get to do it again I'm currently thinking of maybe doing some comics and potential fanfiction / writing? Anyway so far I have planned out everyone's majors: Sans - Physics I chose physics for Sans because he's aware of alternate timelines in the game, so I think he would be interested in quantum physics specifically. Papyrus - Game Design I had trouble coming up with a major for Papyrus at first but finally decided on game design. Here he can be creative with all of his interests as well as create puzzles for players to solve. He also seems to be online a lot in-game so I think this would be perfect for him Mettaton - Theatre This one is pretty self-explanatory, he likes to be dramatic and will do great in theatre. There is also a cutscene of him acting in-game so I think it fits Alphys - Computer Science (with Biochem as a 2nd major or minor) Alphys very much programs in-game as stated by Mettaton when he talks about her naming programming variables after Undyne, and she builds machines and robots! And Biochem might change but I chose this based on her experiments in the True Lab, I felt maybe those would be considered biology? Undyne - Criminology (potential focus on forensics) Undyne is a cop in Deltarune so I felt like this major fits Napstablook - Music (minor in business) Napstablook seems to be very passionate about music so that is their true passion, but their parents wanted them to become a business major so they could carry on the family business. They were originally a business major to appease their parents but decided to just have it be a minor and follow their true passion. Shyren - Music Obviously Muffet - Literature Muffet talks very properly in-game and is also based on the fairytale "Little Miss Muffet" so I thought this would fit! Toriel - Theatre Professor? Maybe English At the end of Undertale hard mode (where you name yourself Frisk) Toriel reveals she was acting out being dead so clearly she has the ability to be involved in theatrics. But she also gives off English teacher vibes and likes to read a lot so I'm not sure. Maybe both? Asgore - Biology Professor In Deltarune, Asgore grows his own flowers. I also need the professors to teach classes the characters will actually attend so this works lol Alphys will be in his class W.D. Gaster - Physics Professor Specializes in quantum physics and has his own lab at the university where he conducts research. Some people find him a little shady, but Sans works in his lab and does research under him. I'm very excited to work on this more, hopefully I have the time!! I also haven't really drawn much before but I will try my best :P Thanks for reading!

this is probably gonna sound like i'm blindly hating, but i don't like the new cometkid designs. hear me out - it just looks like they weren't thought out a lot? i wish more care were put into them. compare, like... chem, frosty, tella, berry... with jolly and violet and alphie. they don't have any sort of obvious theme about them, which is what makes the other cometkids cool! i wish they were developed more instead of just being thrown in there. it's moving really really fast compared to before and i think slowing down would just... fix a lot of it. because you'd have time to develop things and have more fun characters!
OKAY FIRST OF ALL I NEARLY FUCKING SHAT MYSELF BECAUSE MY TUMBLR SAID 15 ASKS but when i opened it only showed this one
anyway yeah. the earlier(?) cometkids actually seem well thought out and distinct from their parents. see marco, chem, and eve.
i consider these my three favorite cometkids both design wise and character wise, of course they resemble their parents (thats how genetics work) but theyre still remarkable, unique, and stand out. they also have fleshed out personalities; eves a rebellious troublemaker but still genuinely cares for her siblings, chem is a scientist like barry but instead of denying things they dont agree with they embrace possibilities, and marcos an exhausted programmer with genuine aspiration to work for an indie game team. now lets look at the new ones.
okay so here we have Yeehaw Jay, Girlboss Rem, and Emo Lightskin Carrie. i admittedly havent caught up with cometcare (i prolly should, but its moving so fast that im sorta scared to) but from what ive seen, normas personality boils down to Loves Scaring Her Siblings, and judging from how other kids are (levi not shutting the fuck up about crypto, tella being the equivalent of 2019 billie eilish stans, etc) it wouldnt be far off to assume that in the future the others will have one singular trait that dictates the entirity of their writing and design.
cometcares been moving super fucking fast as of recent, constant new panels and arcs with the artstyle feeling more and more rushed with every new update, so i wouldnt be surprised if the designs are also being given this treatment. youre definitely onto something with wanting the newer kids to be more developed rather than having a sole feature about them dictate everything. i feel like taking a breather would help let the creative juices flow in a more productive, captivating way.
cometcare in its current state feels like a content farm to distract the fandom from whatever genuinely emotional moments are coming up in the actual comic. people get so caught up in it that when an actually impactful update drops they act like its the end of the world. and also fans are just... expected to understand every single ship and know every single cometkid? no offense, but as a newcomer to the au, the pacing makes it hard to keep track of anyone but sly and blair, and even thats starting to get difficult. new side characters get introduced all the time and i have to question the relevance of anything that happens, which has made me hesitant towards trying to thoroughly read and comprehend it.

I made an official AU!
This is called DustTale-A side, or DustTale: Changed Timeline, where everyone has the same roles but there’s huge differences to the story. The designs are also canon btw
(P.S-Sorry if sprites are bad quality again, I’m looking into better apps or programs for pixel art)
*STORY*
After falling into the underground for the First time, Frisk began her adventure and freed everyone from the underground. But one day, she got bored, and began to wonder what would happen if she reset the world, Sans was nearby and saw what was about to happen, he tried to stop her but failed. Eventually she woke up in the ruins, instantly realizing that she could do the same thing over and over again, and started to wonder what would happen if she attacked.
She put her idea to the test and began her first Genocide run after 5 resets, after her fifth, she met Chara for the first time. Chara made a deal with Frisk saying “I can help you bring something new into this world…all I ask is that you let me join you”
After thinking, Frisk closed the deal and they set off finishing the run. After over 356 resets, that was when things finally changed… and when Frisk would regret her actions.—————————————————————————————————— *CHARACTERS*
*FRISK*
Frisk in this world is more confident and adventurous, usually getting into trouble or finding trouble. After starting a fifth genocide route, she finally drifted away after making a deal with Chara, eventually becoming partners and committing mass genocide. Frisk now regrets those actions, but she cannot be set free on her own.
*FLOWEY*
Flowey is more careful on hiding his real intentions and plans, and enjoys watching Frisk failing from his traps and fights, he also resembles a buttercup and loves to act sweet and friendly. Flowey is a little more stronger when it comes to strength, specifically with vines and pollen. Flowey can grow to massive sizes and destroy walls if he wanted to, the pollen can act as a poison or make any person tired.
After the genocide run began, he showed more of his sinister side and acts as an alert for Sans, but also acts on his own accord. *TORIEL*
Toriel is more caring in this world and her magic is a bit stronger and the ruins is filled with flowers, vines trees and bushes, and grown by her. Toriel also keeps her old crown in her room, and a golden necklace with her at all times. After being killed by Sans, she returned as a phantom known as “The Burner”, any time you see her or she finds you, she’ll immediately burn on fire and attack.
*NABSTABLOOK*
Nabstablook is less nervous but prefers to be by himself sometimes. He enjoys listening to music a lot and wishes to make his own someday, usually he can be seen hanging out with his cousin Mettaton, or in at Waterfall singing with other monsters.
After being killed from revealing his weakness, he became a phantom called “Siren”. If you hear whistling or humming with no one around, run and hide.
*PAPYRUS*
Papyrus is more eager and energetic in this AU, his traps are more complicated and his puzzles are bigger, but fun though. Papyrus still wishes to become a royal guard, and tries to prove he is more than ready for it.
After dying, he follows Sans around wherever he goes, along with the other phantoms. He’s usually trying to calm Sans whenever he has a break down, and acts as his body guard. His traps are more violent as well.
*UNDYNE*
Undyne is more tactical and strong willed, including when it comes to battle. Undyne’s armor is tougher but somewhat lighter too, still has difficulties when entering HotLands however. After her death, she becomes “The shadow knight”, and will hunt Frisk down and attack when cornered or in complete darkness.
*ALPHYS*
While trying to help fallen monsters and keeping their bodies together, she caught an unknown illness and nearly died because of it. Alphys was in a panick one day after finding out her soul started cracking, and without thinking, injected herself determination, hoping it will mend her soul. It did, but at a cost however. Her body began to slowly melt, and the more stressed she got, the worse the condition. Undyne and Mettaton were there with her the entire time while it happened.
Eventually they both made a cure for Alphys. Whenever Alphys feels scared, stressed or angry, her body begins to melt and the worse the condition gets. After Sans’ rampage, she ran to the True Lab and broke down completely. Almost her entire body melted and now shows signs of mutation. She is one of the only ones Sans never killed.
*METTATON*
Mettaton loves to bring drama and excitement to the audience, and puts on a grand show every time. He also includes Nabstablook and other friends in different episodes, with Frisk being on one too. After death, Mettaton became “The beast”, and can be seen around at The Core, Alphys’ lab or with Sans. His soul is replaced with teeth, and a large eye on his chest, including two sharp tentacles that are attached to his back.
*ASGORE*
Asgore is more relaxed and did his best to fix his mistakes. Giving the fallen children a proper burial, the next day he found six beautiful flowers fully grown in front of the tombstones, along with the souls freed from their capsules. The souls are still in the castle, but now wander wherever Asgore goes, and love to chat with him.
Asgore and the children found peace.
But after his death, he became “Thorns”, his magic is stronger, and can be able to create his own vessel, which resembles his body, but he’s no longer the same. The children still stick with him, and worry that he may go too far and may die again.
*SANS*
Sans is the last one to talk about, in this world, he is more anxious and tired. But after the genocide runs and resets, he finally snapped, and began his own run.
He forces himself to stay awake whenever he feels tired, but it makes it worse and harder to use magic, which is where the phantoms come in when he must rest. After becoming the murderer, he also got more anxious, and even has panic attacks, or powerful meltdowns. He wishes he could turn back time, when everything was ok, but it can never be the same.——————————————————————————————————Welp, that’s about it for the story and Designs, hope you all enjoyed it. I’ll be posting more about the AU on here and with other sprites too. See ya next time ^^

What do you do when there’s not much to an AU? You make up your own stuff, ofc. And as is per usual when I make Character Designs, I make up a shit ton of lore too.
The ramblings under the cut, but what I’m really interested in, is what you guys think. Do you guys have any headcanons/ideas for this AU? Let me hear them! Also, if you don’t wanna read on tumblr, here’s the Google Docs link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/151yshHxnb_--P6eMKkwkI2dee9xC_Llb/view?usp=sharing
Before I get into the characters’ roles, here’s some general facts and backstory of their town:
- Basically, it’s Undertale meets Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley. Well, kinda. I at least used that approach for coming up for the jobs for the characters. You know, how there’s always a general store, a doctor, a smithy, etc.
- The usual story of a HM game is that you come to a town that’s way past its glory days and you, as the player/farmer, help them get back to that. The “backstory” of the town is that that already kinda happened. I’ll get into it more in the character description, but basically when Asgore was still mayor, the town got really popular. Then yadda yadda, a certain tragedy happened, two kids died, and the town suddenly got very bad publicity. There was a lot of stuff going on back then, bad reputation being spread and also a lot of law stuff, cos, you know, supposed child murder ‘n all, so Asgore made the decision to shut off the town to ppl from outside. This was in the interest of most monsters living there, because as fun as it is to have a lot of people coming there, most just wanted to live a quiet life. Not everyone was happy with that though, so many moved away from town and some others are trying to get the town back on its feet. But more on that later.
On to the characters:
I’m just gonna start with the skelebros, cos it’s their fault in the first place I got so invested.
Basically, they are what the player is in hm/sdv. They just showed up one day, took over the abandoned farmhouse and began their life there. The two came to town way after it was “closed” and since then a new mayor has opened the possibility for new residents to move in. Their farm helps the economy of the town a lot and the mayor, like usually in hm games, is trying to use that to make the town more known again. The skelebros aren’t really working towards that goal however.
So, now a bit more detail on them individually.
Papyrus:
- The design is mostly based on what’s “canon” in this au.
- He works mostly on the fields and is in charge of the crops. Their fields aren’t spectacularly big, but still big enough to plant a few dozen rows of veggies.
- Paps also helps out a lot in town when he has the time. He helps Asgore with his plants, he goes fishing with Undyne, helps Toriel carry crates around and so on. This is inspired by the part-time job mechanic in HM ToT.
- Unbelievably, in this AU Pap is not an absolutely awful cook. Since he helps out at Muffet’s and Grillby’s a lot, they tend to show him some tricks to cooking. Even though Pap’s not a big fan of the greasy or overly sweet cooking those two do, he picks up a lot.
Sans:
- Again, design mostly based on the “canon” look. Maybe a bit more baggy.
- This is finally an AU this dude gets to rest. Since there are no resets and he doesn’t have to see his bro die again and again, for once in his life, he’s not a sad ball of depression. He’s just a chill and lazy dude that loves to make puns. Though, since he’s not too experienced with the feelings of loss, helplessness or grieving, he still tends to hide behind puns and fakes smiles if he does feel bad.
- Sans is in charge of the animals on the farm. Papyrus begrudgingly gave him that role since Pap’s loud demeanour and hectic movements usually scare the animals. Sans’ relaxed attitude draws the animals to him naturally and even if Pap mostly finds him sleep against a tree, in a stack of hay or on one of the sheep, the animals are always fed, healthy and relaxed, so Sans seems to be doing his job.
- Sans always has a small chic sit inside his hoodie or hat. Is it always the same one? Who knows, maybe.
- Sans also, somehow, can produce eggs out of thin air. Grab into his hoodie pocket, in his pants pocket, in his hat, in his slipper, there’s suddenly always an egg there. On good days he can even make butter or cheese appear.
Gaster:
- He’s literally just a scarecrow in this. Though, if you ask any of the bros why they designed their scarecrow that way, they won’t have an answer.
Frisk&Toriel:
- Frisk is mostly based on what I wore myself as a kid in summer. Just a loose shirt with a cappy. Toriel basically has her ut gown, just with an apron on top.
- Frisk just appeared outside the “magical” forest one day. Napstablook and his cousin found them and brought them to Toriel, who has been taking care of them since.
- Toriel runs the general store in town, but also often takes care of the few kids that still live there.
- Frisk usually helps out in Toriels store, plays with the other kids or sits around at Asgore’s. They’re notorious for nabbing small snacks, mostly from Asgore’s plants. You’ll always find them munching on something.
- Frisk was in town before the skelebros. Since they’d moved in, Frisk often went to spy on their farm. After a small incident with angry chicken, Frisk got to know the two better and now they see them as something between brothers and uncles.
- But Frisk honestly gets along with everyone. Just like in UT, they’ve not only been adopted by Toriel but literally everyone.
- Toriel and Asgore’s relationship is not as bad as in the main game, since, you know, Asgore didn’t kill literal children, but there’s still tension between them. Back when Asriel and Chara died and the whole thing with the bad rep for the town began, Toriel felt betrayed by Asgore focusing more on the town than giving their deceased kids the grieving they deserved. They’re not divorced, but Toriel still moved out and said needed space to think. Now that Frisk is in the picture though, the both of them are slowly coming to even ground and may even be able to talk things out and clear up the uncertainty of their decisions.
Asgore:
-Asgore has his UT Ending / Deltarune clothes, just with a gardener’s belt.
- He’s the previous mayor of the town, but after all the crap that happened, he stepped down from the position. Now he has his own little shop and sells seeds, saplings, homegrown veggies and fertilizer. So, basically what e.g. the Marimba Farm is in HM AP
- His main customer is Papyrus and they’re on friendly terms. Asgore is worried about how much and how hard Pap works, so he often gives him a discount.
- Since his family’s past tragedy, Asgore is kind of nervous around kids. So, when he first met Frisk, he hoped they’d not visit him too often. But to his chagrin, Frisk took an instant liking to him and spends a lot of time at his shop (and steals eats the fresh grown veggies). Now, he’s really grateful for that, because for one, he loves Frisk as dearly as he had his own children, and also because now the tension and mistrust between him and Toriel seem to grow smaller day by day.
Undyne&Alphys:
- I gave Undyne a pretty basic fisher’s outfit. Alphys basically has Elli from HM’s outfit, just a bit more doctory stuff added. She still has her canon lab coat too.
- In essence, Undyne and Alphys have 2 completely different jobs. Alphys is the resident doctor and Undyne runs the fish market.
Two things. Yes, I know Alphys is more a mechanic than a doctor, she fits the aesthetic though, so she’s the doc now. And no, Undyne being a fisherwoman is not cannibalism, think of it more as a shark hunting smaller fish.
- The reason I lump them together is because they act as the local “smithy”. Alphys is still really tech savvy in this (I mean, Mettaton is still part of this AU), so she takes on most problems with electronics and stuff. For Undyne, I didn’t want to lose her Royal Guard’s Captain image, so she’s really good at handling tools (and weapons, but Al doesn’t let her make them anymore). So basically, if there’s a broken tool, you can be sure that either Undyne or Alphys can fix it.
- As for relationships, those two are still an item. Alphys is still really shy and a shut-off, but since Undyne and Pap become best friends, she gets to know the skelebros better. She and Sans especially get along well, since most of the time Undyne and Papyrus are let loose, they sit back and talk about science-y stuff. (no, Sans doesn’t have a background in science but he’s still into sci-fi)
- Alphys has a bit of a strained relationship with both Asgore and Mettaton.
Back when Chara and Asriel died, it was because of “illness” (maybe poisoning?). Alphys feels awful because with her back then limited knowledge on medicine she couldn’t help the two. Asgore doesn’t hold anything against her but Alphys can’t help but feel guilty.
Alphys still built Mettaton’s body in this one. The two had a really big disagreement, because Mettaton hated the fact the town was going to close, and he couldn’t understand how Alphys could feel otherwise, even more so endorse the idea.
Mettaton, Napstablook, Mad Dummy/Mew Mew:
- Napsta and Dummy are pretty self-explanatory, they got straw hats. Mettaton’s outfit is a bit of a joke cos it’s a play on “work at the top and party at the bottom”. The tie has two different sides, one with the yellow red pattern, the other completely red. His “top part” is the business part, because when he’s on tv or in the mayors’ office, you don’t usually see his feet. The bottom is his party/dance part, cos his dancing/entertainment channels mostly feature his legs.
- Mettaton, still a robot, Napstablook and Mad Dummy are all still cousins in this AU.
- Originally, they all lived and worked at the Blook Farm, the Animal Farm of this AU. Mettaton, however, despised that simple live and after befriending Alphys and her building him a body, he left the Farm to pursue bigger things.
- Mettaton runs the local tv network. From weather to game shows, he does it all. He also runs the tailor shop in town that sells his designer clothes and merchandise. After Asgore stepped down, Mettaton also took over the role of town’s mayor and now works towards making the place more known again. Not everybody is happy with him doing that though.
- One of those people is the Mad Dummy. He can’t stand people anyways and he always claims that history would just repeat itself.
- Since the whole family is made of ghosts, they have different dummies and scarecrows they can use to take care of the animals. To mock Mettaton and kinda get back at Alphys for giving MTT such an opportunity, Mad Dummy found the blueprints for the Mew Mew robot and now modelled one of their scarecrows after it.
- Napstablook isn’t fond of taking over obejcts like his cousins do, so he mostly takes care of the snails. Somehow, he can interact with them even when incorporeal.
Muffet&Grillby:
- The two of them run the Inn together. Muffet cooks in the daytime and makes desserts, Grillby manages the bar in the evening.
- The two still can’t really stand each other but working together like this benefits them both because their rivalry just spurs them on more.
- Even though Grillby is a patient person, somehow Muffet is the only person who riles him up enough to retaliate. (Well, maybe except for Sans, he’s a strong second).
So, basically everything between those two is a challenge in some way. Even if Papyrus doesn’t notice, even his cooking lessons are a challenge for them.
- Even though they’re constantly bickering, after working together for so many years, there’s a strange level of respect and trust between them. Even if back when they first started this business, they’d pour salt into an already open wound, nowadays they’d know better and just take a step back from the other or even comfort the other (on very rare occasions only).
Asriel&Chara:
- They be dead. Kinda.
Some Characters that’d live in that town too but that I haven’t made designs for:
- Gerson is the original smithy of the town. He’d grown up in a family of smiths, but he’d always had an appreciation for the sea. That’s why, when the town became more deserted and Undyne had a good enough skill level as smith, he took up the Captains hat and now mostly spends his days out on sea. He also ferries people to places if they need him to. Oh, and just like in canon, Undyne learned most of her skills from him.
- Burgerpants is a poor dude Mettaton basically kidnapped when he was trying to get fame in the city. Now Burgerpants works wherever MTT needs him to, be that as cameraman for the tv shows, cashier in his tailor shop or his slave secretary in the mayor’s office.
- MK is Frisk’s best kid friend. MK’s parents are in charge of shipping the goods out of town and paying the individual people. MK’s the one that usually collects the goods at the end of the day.
- Other than that, there are only a few people in town. I’d imagine the older folks or the really young families stayed in town after it was closed. I think the librarby dude would still run the library. Some Snowdin residents like the stone family or the dogs also might still live there.

Underlust Reimagine Frisk Bio (Tomo)
🤍 They don’t remember anything about their life on the Surface, or how they fell to the Underground in the first place. The fall may have caused this amnesia.
🤍 Overall, Frisk seems to be a very whimsical and carefree individual, even despite the fact that they could have died on their fall and don’t remember anything at all about their life.
🤍 Somehow, it seems that they have a natural talent for reading the room and knowing exactly what to say to make someone feel better when they are down.
🤍 Frisk has a great sympathy and empathy for the monsters of the Underground, which is something they definitely are able to use to both their and others’ benefit.
Other Information
🤍 Birthday: April 6th
🤍 Age: 19 (after the Fall)
🤍 Gender: fem agender
🤍 Pronouns: they/them
🤍 Height: 5′5″ / 165 cm
🤍 Orientation: panromantic, asexual
🤍 Likes: ice cream, mac ‘n’ cheese, trying new things, making friends
🤍 Dislikes: awkward silence, bright lights, sandpaper, being sick
Design Notes
🤍 Little about Tomo’s design was changed from the original UL design. In fact, this is part of what inspired me to use flag designs for the rest of the characters’ color palettes.
🤍 Their nickname comes from the Japanese word “tomodachi,” meaning “friend.” This is supposed to reference how they are far more interested in making platonic connections rather than anything else.
🤍 Their role and personality is actually a bit inspired by Tooru Honda from Fruits Basket! Just a little bit. ULR isn’t a shoujo manga and there’s no intended canonical ships or anything.
Canonical Relationships
🤍 Toriel (Ash) - Tomo likes Ash a lot and is very thankful for the home that Ash had offered them, even if, in the end, they turned down the offer to stay in favor of trying to find a way home.
🤍 Sans (Ace) - Tomo has a fair understanding of Ace’s internal frustrations and has attempted to talk them out with him, but it only makes Ace upset. Tomo, however, remains patient with him.
🤍 Papyrus (Duo) - Duo is probably the closest friend Tomo has made during their time in the Underground. They spend a lot of time travelling and talking together!
🤍 Undyne (Pearly) - It takes Pearly a bit to warm up to Tomo, considering Pearly is a bit more hostile towards humans given her job as a Royal Guard, but the two end up being notably close.
🤍 Alphys (Ally) - Tomo believes most things anyone says flatly, so they didn’t initially realize most of the things Ally was telling them were flat-out lies. Nevertheless, Tomo is relentlessly forgiving even as they discover the truth.
🤍 Metacrit - Tomo remains pretty calm and happy around Metacrit despite how hostile and rude he is towards them. However, this patience ends up being to their benefit, since Metacrit eventually decides to become friends with Tomo.
🤍 Asgore (Myriad) - Tomo doesn’t even flinch as Myriad attempts to take their life, and immediately instead tries to offer their help, despite what seems to be his silence and frustration. Who knows how that will turn out...
🤍 Chara (Arrow) - Tomo has seen them a few times and wonders what they could do to help Arrow, since Arrow never seems happy.

A collection of Undertale AUs that I’ve thought up based on characters neglected by the fandom, but don’t really have the time or energy to focus on making a detailed fanfic or comic. I might do concept art, doodles, sketches, or short comics, but no promises. You can make fanart or whatever of these AUs, but please credit me for the concepts and if you use my designs, thanks--
Toriel-Centric AUs
-Pre-canon AU where Toriel is pregnant with another child when Chara and Asriel die. Asgore is also aware of this, due to how he continues to age even after Asriel’s death. The child eventually befriends the next human to fall, to the point where they and the second fallen human leave the Ruins together. Tormented by memories of the last time something like this happened, Toriel is forced to remain in the Ruins grieving, or chase after them through the Underground.
-No Mercy AU where a dying Toriel calls for help, and due to her bond with them the six human souls answer her call, allowing her to be the one to take the seventh human soul. Now she has the power to break the Barrier... but knows doing so will only cause more bloodshed, because the monsters are still demanding vengeance and war. After rejecting power and responsibility for so long, will she try and create a good ending for everyone, including Asgore and his subjects, or will she try and punish them?
Not to mention, the possibility of discussions between her and the seven souls, and trying to understand why Frisk did what they did...
Mettaton-Centric AUs
An AU in which Mettaton, for whatever reason, never gets his ideal body, and takes up a habit of spending time in the Ruins, where there’s less of an anti-human sentiment than the Underground proper. Upon meeting Frisk he’s instantly starstruck, and decides to accompany them throughout the Underground, taking on the role of Narrator.
-Roleswap AU where Mettaton is the Caretaker of the Ruins, trying to give humans who fall a good life, while a depressed Napstablook who rules the Underground has given up entirely on ever leaving, which leads to a quiet, subdued, and emptier Underground rather than a vengeful one.
Alphys-Centric AUs
-I one wanted to make an askblog for an Error Alphys once, once located at @newcore-askblog, but it was very short-lived. She originated in a Queen Alphys ending where she returned to Determination experiments, but an accident landed her in the Anti-Void, where she glitched out while grieving the fate of her subjects and her world, destroyed by a human’s rampage.
As Error Alphys, she created a new area similar to the Omega Timeline known as the New Core. It was a very dystopic and dieselpunk-inspired area which was filled with defensive traps and the ability to rearrange and reconfigure itself, like the normal Core, but which also functioned as a home for No Mercy-run survivors. Despite this, food and power were always concerns for the New Core, so they’re always making connections with other AUs to feed their population.
In order to circumvent an Error’s inherent memory problems, Errorphys was always making notes and recordings in the New Core’s databases. Despite genuinely wanting to protect and do right by her subjects, she was also a very emotionally unstable and erratic personality, with an incredibly deep-seated paranoia and loathing directed towards humans. While any monster was welcome in the New Core, any human she came across would have their soul taken to act as a battery for the enormous machine. Not even Core!Frisk would be able to escape this hatred from her, but she wouldn’t be all that more affable towards Error!Sans, viewing him as someone untrustworthy, irresponsible, and childish.
Undyne-Centric AUs
-Hadestown/Undertale crossover AU where Undyne is the bright and idealistic-to-the-point-of-unreasonable Orpheus, Alphys is the more depressed and cynical Eurydice, Toriel takes Persephone’s role, and Asgore takes Hades’ role. At the climax, rather than singing a song to melt Asgore’s heart, Undyne has a really over-the-top anime duel while screaming about the powers of love and friendship.

4 or 9 for the rant? Those are my fave numbers lol 👀 lovin these rants btw
Mettaton is number 9! Someone else asked for number 4 so that one will go in that ask. Thanks for indulging me c: It's been a while (like 2 months?) but trust me I've got the energy for more. I left the links to the old ones too if someone is new here and doesn't know the context.
Warnings for mentions of Mettaton's neutral death.
I always accept requests! I just had to take a break from writing stuff like this c:
So, Mettaton was my favorite character the first time I finished the game. I mean, I loved everyone but Mettaton was jus so awesome to me! He is far from my favorite type of character but his charm just works well with me. He made Hotland extremely fun.
Anyways. So there was this time that I was thinking. "Man, besides a few accidental killings, it's not exactly easy to kill. Why would you try that with Mettaton, for example?"
So I did, and not only were his last words heartbreaking, or Alphys's reaction bad enough. But there was a very uneasy feeling I felt aftwerwards. I realized that Mettaton got to be himself but nobody got to meet him, really. He got the chance to live freely as he intended to, but the player cut his life short. Getting only one performance for himself.
But it's not just that. I think his boss battle is interesting in many ways. One is that it's designed to be easier to spare than attack. Many actions make the ratings go up, even stuff like hitting his core. You can attack, sure, but it's still easier and faster to ACT.
The second thing is that out of every boss battle, it's the one that gets the most visibility out of everyone. It's his final show! Everyone's watching him and Frisk fight and cheering him on. And yet... for most people it's only a performance. And Mettaton is willing to commit to it until the end, not to let people give up hope. When you go back to the MTT resort in a neutral route after killing him, you hear people missing him already, talking about how emotional his last show was and the quality of his acting. The guy, always present, always nagging his staff, left a mark in people, he was soon to be missed. Sure, people like Burgerpants had every reason to dislike him. But it hit me at that point, that it's incredibly likely that not many people actually thought Mettaton was a real monster? Or maybe, that he wouldn't or couldn't die as a robot? Or well, that everything he did was just acting? After all, if you do defeat him, instead of his EX body, you're left with a broken version of his box body. He doesn't "dust" in the regular way.
(Image has alt text)
How does it feel to be Alphys and not be able to grieve? How does it feel to know you've lost someone but you can't even explain what they mean to you if you want to respect their wishes?
And coming back to Mettaton, how would it feel to know you were loved, deeply, but that in some way, nobody realizes what happened to you even though everyone witnessed it?
Yeah... In theory, this allows Frisk to move on to New Home without being held accountable for their actions. But the "ambiguous" nature of Mettaton's neutral death still hits me. Hard. A celebrity who is loved, but not known. People know who he is but they don't know him. A robot and a ghost, not "alive" on their own but pretty much still alive.
I dont even know how to end this but well. It's something i've never seen others mention, but that still resonates with me.
Links to my other disorganized thoughts.
