America’s Shame: A Felon as President

It’s incredible that the American people have no shame in the fact that they overwhelmingly voted for a felon as their president. If any foreign leader with the kind of criminal record Donald Trump has—impeached twice, found guilty of fraud, and accused of leading an insurrection—were elected, the American press and government would have a field day, putting that person down in every way imaginable.

But now, European Americans are celebrating Trump’s election as if each one of them just won the lottery. It’s a disgrace, the lowest point the country has ever reached, and the normalization of this freak show is nothing short of obscene.

If the judge in the New York fraud case dismisses it because of Trump’s new job title, what kind of message will that send? It will embolden criminals in high places and make it clear that justice doesn’t apply to the rich and powerful. People seem to have completely forgotten that many of Trump’s crimes were committed before he became president. The real question is whether the judge will follow the law and jail the president-elect or give in to the partisan Supreme Court ruling that protects a president’s immunity.

The public has given up on Trump. They’ve stopped fighting him because they believe it’s a waste of time—every time people think he’s finished, he bounces back. But history teaches us that the reign of every evil leader—be it Napoleon, Hitler, or Stalin—never lasts more than 15 years. Without exception, fate steps in, and they either end up on a deserted island like Napoleon or dead in a bunker like Hitler. Trump is no Napoleon or Hitler, but he is Europe’s excuse to reclaim a lost cause that was never theirs to begin with. And as sure as the sky above us, he will also end up on the wrong side of history.
