Khao Sok, Khao Sok, our own little world created by rock, Never did I know I would love you so.

You were the perfect place to visit at the start of our trip, with nothing to do but enjoy your beauty and get to know our fellow travellers. 

One moment I’ll always remember is hanging by the water chatting to the solo female travellers, and hearing how Phoebe had spent the start of the year travelling through Costa Rica (something I’ve always wanted to do). That’s when I realised that this is how you meet like-minded people, travelling doing what YOU want to do. Those people that you are immediately comfortable with, because you understand the world in similar ways. Those people that have the ability to listen, really listen. Those people that aren't afraid, so they hide behind no walls, shy away fro no adventure. Those people, are real people.

Sigiriya Rock (or lion rock) is one of the most jaw dropping locations in Sri Lanka. I have such an immense respect for Buddhism, with it all being about self-improvement and what you can do to make the world a better place. I may still be greatly lacking in my understanding of Buddhism, but that doesn't mean that I don't absolutely love visiting temples and being blessed by monks.

It doesn’t really ever sink in. Noticing... Realising it for yourself. After all the packing...The goodbyes, the tears, the journey, the confusion, the shock... Before finally stepping outside, without a bag strapped to your back, and breathing in a different air, a different timezone, a different culture. For some it takes a day, even a week. Some won’t even realise until they get back to their nine to five routine. And that is if you go back, of course. You make walk into the office and your best friend at work asks you “What’s new?” And you’ll be stuck for words. Because, what you’ve just realised, is what you’ve done these past few months, was more than you’ve ever done in your life. It’s a change, a realisation that we are the luckiest people on the planet. To have the ability to sit in a metal tube for twelve hours, and touch down on the other side of the world. To be able to work for a few months,  and see these incredible places, that some only dream of seeing. The realisation that you’re lucky. You’re lucky that the place you will see, the things you’ll do, and the memories you’ll make, will stay with you FOREVER. And not only that, but you’re lucky that you’ll share all these things, with incredible people from all over the world, who all made the same decision. They packed a bag, they jumped on a plane to a far off place, for exactly the same reason you did... The journey.
