Monday, June 10: Mastodon, "Word to the Wise"

Emperor of Sand was a natural continuation of The Hunter, with maybe a couple of the proggy flourishes from Crack the Skye, though most of the resemblance to that record came from Brendan O’Brien’s intuitive production.  But the main story with Emperor of Sand was Mastodon’s ongoing evolution as writers and players, with “Word to the Wise” not sacrificing any bit of heaviness or jamming while still assuming the form of a 4-minute song.  Seemingly everyone took their turn on vocals, the guitars sizzled and let loose with increasingly classy soloing, and even Brann Dailor’s hyperactive drumming felt well-placed and thoughtful.  O’Brien’s recording gave everything heft and might, keeping the track rooted in metal.  This felt like a streamlined version of Mastodon only in the sense that the tune wasn’t 8 minutes long, but otherwise was another fine banger in a discography with no shortage of those.

So this article is old (I'm late I know) but I was googling something about Troy Sanders, and I honestly don't remember what I was trying to google now, but "Does Troy Sanders have tattoos?" came up first, so I clicked it because I didn't know if he did but this one image interested me because it's fucking Phil Anselmo and Troy Sanders
