From spicy curries to delectable street food, Sri Lankan dishes reflect the island's unique culture, history, and fresh tropical ingredients. Whether you're a fan of seafood, vegetarian delights, or sweet treats, this guide will take you on a flavorful journey through the best culinary experiences Sri Lanka has to offer.
1. Rice and Curry – The Heart of Sri Lankan Cuisine
Rice and curry is the staple meal of Sri Lanka, featuring fragrant rice paired with a variety of flavorful curries made from vegetables, fish, or meat. The use of coconut milk, aromatic spices like cinnamon and cardamom, and fiery chili peppers makes every bite a delightful explosion of taste.
2. Hoppers and String Hoppers – Sri Lanka’s Unique Pancakes
Hoppers, or "appa," are crispy bowl-shaped pancakes made from fermented rice flour, often served with a fried egg in the center. String hoppers, or "idiyappam," are delicate rice noodles paired with coconut sambal and curry, making them a popular breakfast dish.
3. Kottu Roti – The Ultimate Sri Lankan Street Food
Kottu roti is a must-try Sri Lankan street food, made from shredded godhamba roti stir-fried with vegetables, eggs, and a choice of meat or seafood. The rhythmic clanging of metal blades as vendors chop and mix the ingredients on a hot griddle is a signature sound of Sri Lanka’s bustling food scene.
4. Sri Lankan Seafood Delights
With its coastal location, Sri Lanka boasts some of the freshest seafood dishes. From spicy crab curry in Colombo to grilled prawns in Negombo, seafood lovers will find plenty of mouthwatering options. Don’t miss out on ambul thiyal, a tangy, slow-cooked fish dish infused with goraka (a souring agent) and aromatic spices.
5. Lamprais – A Dutch Colonial Influence
Lamprais is a Sri Lankan dish with Dutch-Burgher origins, featuring rice cooked in flavorful stock, accompanied by meat curry, frikkadels (meatballs), and sambol, all wrapped in a banana leaf and baked for an enhanced aroma and taste.
6. Pol Sambol and Lunu Miris – Iconic Sri Lankan Condiments
Pol sambol, a coconut relish mixed with chili, lime, and onion, is a staple side dish that enhances any meal. Lunu miris, a spicy chili-onion paste, adds an extra kick to hoppers and string hoppers.
7. Wood Apple Juice – A Unique Sri Lankan Drink
Wood apple juice, made from the pulp of the native wood apple fruit, is a tangy and refreshing beverage packed with health benefits. Locals enjoy it with jaggery (palm sugar) to balance the fruit’s natural tartness.
8. Sri Lankan Sweets – A Taste of Tradition
Sri Lankan desserts like kavum (sweet oil cakes), kokis (crispy fried batter), and wattalappam (coconut custard pudding) are commonly enjoyed during festive occasions. Their unique blend of coconut, jaggery, and spices makes them irresistible.
9. Tea Culture – The Essence of Ceylon Tea
Sri Lanka is world-famous for its tea plantations, particularly in regions like Nuwara Eliya and Ella. Jurassic World Dominion — My Edition — News Reels
After the prologue and the additional scene involving the baby, news reals come up in a montage and show what the world was going through the five years since the eruption of Isla Nublar and incident at the Lockwood Manor.
Dinosaur-caused casualties: Ever since fall 2018, dozens, maybe even hundreds of people were killed by dinosaurs, where the it’d be accidentally scaring herbivorous dinosaurs like Stegosaurus or Brachiosaurus… or intentionally being killed by carnivorous dinosaurs like Compsognathus or Allosaurus if said dinos are hungry or desperate for food.
Dinosaurs eating crops: Several herbivorous dinosaur species start eating crops like corn or wheat, mostly out of curiosity as dinosaurs never ate crops before.
Dinosaurs spreading across the world: From a combination of migration, natural breeding, illegal breeding, overseas transportation, etc., more dinosaurs are spreading across the world.
More dinosaur species appearing: Throughout the five years since the Lockwood Manor incident, more dinosaur species have been appearing, as well as spreading across the world through migration, natural breeding, illegal breeding, overseas transportation, etc.
Dinosaurs suffering heavy poaching: With dinosaurs appearing around the world, illegal poaching becomes a threat to all dinosaurs, herbivorous and carnivorous alike. Ceratopsians and stegosaurids start to suffer from the poaching that elephants and rhinos go through.
Dinosaurs impacting ecosystems: Ever since fall 2018, reports came in on dinosaurs negatively impacting ecosystems with the herbivorous dinosaurs eating much more flora and leaving barely anything for modern animals such as deer and such. And carnivorous dinosaurs were eating more modern animals like deer and such than natural breeding can replenish.
Dinosaurs dealing with invasive plant and animal species: Not all about dinosaurs in the world is bad as large reports of carnivorous dinosaurs like Carnotaurus, Velociraptor, and several others are eating invasive wild boars in America. And marine animals like juvenile Elasmosaurus and even sea scorpions have been observed eating invasive lion fish in the Atlantic. Not to mention pterasours feast on invasive Asian cod in American rivers.
Biosyn’s aid in the matter: Now having the ability to clone and release dinosaurs, Biosyn provides aid in relocating captured dinosaurs to the Biosyn Sanctuary or wildlife reserves. Thus allowing Biosyn to receive billions of dollars in government grants. On top of that, Biosyn aims to study dinosaurs for beneficial purposes for the dinosaurs, modern wildlife and humanity.
Biosyn helping restore forests: Using genetic modifications, Biosyn helps in restoring forests around the world; including the rainforests & mangrove forests of Central America, South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, Indonesia and Australia. And native tree species are obviously being used in these projects, and therefore the trees are native to the areas they’re being planted and grown at.
Biosyn terraforming several deserts: Biosyn is also bringing tropical rainforests and lush wetlands into barren deserts like the northern part of the Sahara Desert, with a good number of plants/trees being cloned from fossilized Mesozoic flora.
Status on Isla Nublar: News on Isla Nublar reveal that most of the island is utterly destroyed, and Mt Sibo is nothing but a large deep crater. That reveals that Sibo’s eruption in 2018 was as large & destructive as Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in 79ad, maybe more powerful. And the huge amounts of ash, fire, and lava have utterly destroyed much of Nublar’s greenery, leaving the island with barren wastelands unable to provide for any dinosaurs.
As an extra, during the montage, several recordings are shown. With one being a flock of (JWE2-looking) Cearadactylus roosting/nesting atop the White House in Washington DC. Another recording shows a mixed herd of Tenontosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus eating a corn field. A third recording shows (TLW) Velociraptors hunting herds of invasive wild boar.
And that’s all the news reals topics regarding the dinosaurs and the changes going world. And yes, i do plan on making & releasing posts talking about several of these news reals, so stay tuned.

Thea Sisters Book Reviews: Part 8
Tropical Treasure, Hollywood Hoax, and Madagascar Madness
Tropical Treasure:
6/10, I actually didn’t mind it! There were some parts that I did like. The girls agree to volunteer at a wildlife center for a research internship, which is in the Bahamas. When they get there and talk for a bit with their new friends, they find out the center is on the verge of closing due to lack of funding. They tend to a flamingo, yadda yadda, then they go to a pirate reenactment show. There, they learn the story of Annabel, a rich, fierce pirate captain who abducted the son of a governor, whom she fell in love with. They find a jacket that could have possibly belonged to Annabel, a map slipping out of it. With that map, they go hunt for her hidden treasure. But it looks like someone else is after the fortune as well.
One big thing that I liked about this story, or rather the potential that it has, is the love story between Annabel and James, the governor’s son. I think it’s cute, and I would love to see a flashback. But anyways, enough about my hopes and dreams, I also liked that the painfully obvious candidate for the villain turned out to be a red herring and that he was actually relevant, unlike Rob from Niagara Splash. The person who actually ended up being the villain was fine. Nothing special. I do appreciate that this book deviated from the usual pattern of mediocrity, but it’s still not the best book in the series. Everything else still felt pretty humdrum.
Hey, this book isn’t a bad read, so if you wanna check it out, go ahead. But you’re not missing anything if you don’t.
Hollywood Hoax:
This is the one, the only, the 1/10 out of all of these original books. Good ol’ IRRELEWOOD HOAX. BECAUSE IT'S THAT IRRELEVANT. So basically the girls are in Hollywood with their friend and her sister, who works at a movie studio. And coincidentally, at the same time, a princess from the royal family has gone missing. And uhhhhh something something shit happens, the film reel for the entire movie the sister was working on was stolen something something private detective protecting the princess’ (who is in Hollywood. Go figure.) identity.
I’m sure you can tell by my enthusiastic summary of the plot that I really love this book. The number one reason I DESPISE Irrelewood Hoax, is that it had SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE COOL. I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE ANOTHER WHODUNNIT LIKE THE OLDER BOOKS. I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA USE COSTUMES AND SPECIAL EFFECTS BUT NO. NO. The culprit. Was a fucking detective. That we never even see before the reveal. And why did he do it you ask?? Because of the FUCKING PRINCESS. GOD I HATE THE ROYAL FAMILY STORYLINE. IT'S SO BORING AND HUMDRUM, AND IT'S LITERALLY THE MOST UNCREATIVE WAY THEY COULD HAVE INCORPORATED IT. Or hear me out, they could have made the book actually about Hollywood, and NOT about some rich white girl who’s sick of being rich. There were no cool concepts, no good characters, no chase scenes or gimmicks or dialogue to give this book a SHRED of quality writing.
Don’t read it unless you don’t believe me about how bad it is. If you wanna read an actual interesting book about a royal hiding among normal people, read Royal Ball from the Mouseford books, it's way better, and it doesn’t have to lead you on in order to get you to read it.
Madagascar Madness:
4/10, Madagascar Madness? More like MIDAGASCAR MIDNESS. Because everything about this book is MID. So basically Nicky and Paulina are invited along with the Thea Sisters by their friends Michael and Emma in the organization of Green Mice to a survival contest. They meet the other competitors, including Ed and Lisa, basically the Goodwill version of Vic and Vanilla, and Lisa’s just as bitchy. Now they have to survive in the wilderness and deal with these snooty ass de Vissen knockoffs. Then they start finding some strange equipment around, even when technology was forbidden, as well as other strange things. Turns out there’s two poachers capturing animals all around the forest, and all the teams left, yes including the bitch twins, have to work together to stop them.
Okay, so as much as I’m gonna hate on this book, I did give it a few extra points for deviating from the usual pattern, which was nice, and gave us antagonists besides the villains, which was also nice. That being said though, the villains sucked ASS. They had zero personality, zero intimidation factor, I don’t even know if they have names. And also, in the big confrontation where the whole group faced against the poachers, they got FUCKING CAPTURED. ALL NINE OF THEM. BY TWO REGULAR ASS DUDES. THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE ANY GUNS OR ANYTHING.
I generally have the same complaints for this book as the other modern books. More forgettable side characters, the book being a complete bore, so on and so forth. Which sucks because the concept isn’t bad at all. But every single character, yes, including the Thea Sisters, is bland and only serves to move the plot forward. Even the antagonists are very one note, until they do a complete 180 off-screen (figuratively of course).
In conclusion, don’t bother. Just read Mouselets in Danger. It's literally this but better.

Part of the Process
Fandom: WoF
Characters: Morrowseer, Mastermind, Battlewinner
CW: Mentions of RainWing torment and torturing (what fun!!)
Summary: Mastermind's just finished up with some work on a project, so he's dragged along Morrowseer to present to Queen Battlewinner.
Word Count: 2.2K
A/N: Oh. Ohoho. Did you think that one post I made about wanting Mastermind to be silly was a one-off thing? How wacky! I miss writing silly characters in WoF so much. Mastermind is very near and dear to me for no reason because I'm completely altered his personality now. He's such a jerk (I love him). I want to rewrite his introduction scene in TDS as well...
It was a rarity nowadays for Morrowseer to drop by and visit Queen Battlewinner. One may chalk it up to how it was quite difficult to get her to speak, considering how she's been submerged in the same vat of lava for decades now, but Morrowseer found himself...busier these days. Between having to assist Nautilus with the Talons of Peace and joining hunting parties to feed the starving populous, it's been a lot. He almost envied his queen. All she had to do was sit there in a pool of molten rock and spout vague three-word orders from time to time.
Regardless, envy is for those who aren't strong enough to do better, and Morrowseer was no weak dragon. The Dragonet Prophecy plan was working. Word from the guardians told them that their precious harbingers of peace were healthy. The stern and haughty rambles from Kestrel about their physical training were a bit much though. That dragon got on his nerves a lot. Thank the moons he had the idea of shoving her into a cave for all of time.
However, the false prophecy was the only part of this plan. No, their grand return to the continent would include an invasion. While the others tried to downplay it, calling it a "takeover" or an "occupying space", there was no question that they were planning for battle.
They were going to take the Rainforest Kingdom for themselves.
The tunnels that the betraying animus made for them once upon a time showed Morrowseer how much they suffered. While the NightWings rotted and withered away from disease and hunger, the RainWings carelessly played with their food. They had enough fruit to spare the wildlife! They would laugh and dance in the treetops and breathe in their fresh, luscious air. Sometimes when life grew too stressful, Morrowseer would risk everything to stand at the edge of the tunnels and breathe in that blissful, glorious air of the tropical forest.
He needed it. The whole tribe needed it. They deserved it after thousands of years of suffering and torture on this decaying island.
But, they needed a plan. RainWings are unfortunately annoying to handle. While the rest of the continent forgot, the NightWings remembered the days when they were feared. When the rainforest dragons would be used as monsters to scare the dragonets, for their deathly venom and ability to disappear into the shadows were their greatest strength. It would be foolish to go running into their domain, even if they've been reduced to half-minded pacifists.
Yet, they figured out a solution. What was it? Well-
"Uhh, excuse me, Morrowseer?" a tenor voice rang in his ears. Morrowseer could feel his associate tapping his scales impatiently. "Are you done brooding by any chance? You've been staring at the entrance for ages. I haven't got all day."
His eyes glanced over to see a smaller NightWing standing beside him. His round glasses sat crooked on his snout, enlarging his dark green eyes. He fidgeted with his scrolls and blueprints in his claws, scowling.
"I suppose I am. Thank you for interrupting me."
"You're very welcome!" It was hard to tell if he picked up on Morrowseer's sarcastic quip or not. "Now then, let's move on. I need to get back to my work."
"Your work," Morrowseer said. "Your work involves you staring at dragons trapped in cages. You do not ever leave your lab unless I drag you out. Half the time when I come and check in on you, you are just sitting there and laughing to yourself while writing incomprehensible notes."
"Research! All research! Trust me, the scholars of the mainland would kill for what I've learned about these dragons. It's all a part of the process."
"Including having a RainWing run on a treadmill for nine hours while threatening to kill them if they don't?"
"That is precisely it, my friend," he said with a smile.
Morrowseer felt his joints stiffen from that mere sentence. He didn't care to be called a friend by this dragon. Their relationship was more one of...forced compliance. Mastermind on the other talon believed it to be more friendly than it truly was. Only natural. Morrowseer is the only dragon who talks to him.
"Now, let's move on. I don't want to be kept waiting. Time is valuable. A minute wasted is a minute you'll never get back."
"You can wait, Mastermind. It wouldn't kill you to learn the value of patience." He unpinned a corner of the map before then, lifting it up. Behind it was not a rock wall, but a tunnel large enough for both of them to comfortably fit through.
"Out of the way." He pushed past Morrowseer, scampering into the tunnel. Irritation flared up in him and he was ready to speak, but he swallowed his words. Anything he said would turn into an argument. Mastermind could never possibly be wrong or inconsiderate.
He trailed after him. As they continued, their pathway only grew smaller and smaller. Finally, a sharp curve. Mastermind trotted over to it, his talons clicking against the floor. "Finally! Took us long enough."
It was a large and spacious room made of marble, streaks of obsidian black flowing through it. It was unbearably hot, with half of the room being floor and the other half being a massive pool of lava.
"I trust you told Battlewinner that we would be here by now."
"I did tell our queen that, yes." He checked Mastermind in the side. "Show some respect for her as well."
He scoffed. "If it makes you happy."
"It's so that you don't end up dead. I wouldn't go around insulting the flaming dragon that can drag you into your scorching and agonizing death."
"Eh, whatever. I don't care." He shrugged. "Besides, she knows I'm the most valuable dragon on this island. Without me, the whole operation would fail."
"Is that what you tell yourself?" He snorted.
"It's true though, you simply don't want to admit that you're not the only one with some power here." He straightened his neck, trying to look as tall as possible.
"Bold words coming from you." Morrowseer snapped. "If you had any sense of decency, you'd know when to shut your trap-" Before he could finish his sentence, the sound of rumbling and bubbling came before them.
The lava twisted and shifted before a pair of claws shot out of it, grabbing onto the ledge. The lava splattered and sprayed, some coming dangerously close to Morrowseer. Moments later, the head of a large NightWing breached the surface, steam and smoke pouring from every scale. She opened her mouth, frigid cold air fuming out. Then, her eyes opened. A dark black with a piercing blue glow that could only be described as the embodiment of frost.
"Ah, pleased to see you, my queen." Mastermind dramatically bowed, shooting Morrowseer a cocky look upon uttering those words.
"Enough with that..." Battlewinner hissed, her voice rough and scratchy, like the bellows of a horn before battle.
He blinked. "Hm, as you wish. Whatever happened to politeness and greeting your queen? To valour and respect and treating your ruler with-"
"Enough!" Battlewinner snarled, her claws scraping the floor. "I grow tired of your voice very...very quickly, scholar..."
"It would be more accurate to call me a scientist, but regardless-" He smirked, "-at least I'm the one who showed honour and respect to our glorious queen."
"Queen Battlewinner does not and should not feel obligated to give you any more attention than you deserve, especially over something as idiotic as bowing and spewing empty praises. If you want to find someone who'll listen to you spout nonsense and arrogance, you should look for the dragon you see when staring into a mirror; they're the only one who can stand to be around you," Morrowseer said.
"Is that what you really think of me? Eugh, to think I have to work with you..."
"Yes, how terrible for you."
"Silence!" Battlewinner growled. "Both of you..." Her eyes turned towards Mastermind, her head following suit. "Explain yourself... What news have you brought before me?"
"Finally! I have been preparing this all week. I believe you'll finally come around to appreciate the work I've done to support our plan."
"My plan." Morrowseer corrected. "Or rather the plan Queen Battlewinner and I made. You have no part in this. Don't pretend you're some great contributor, for your own sake."
The corners of Mastermind's mouth tightened. "Oh, please." He rolled his eyes. "Whatever. I've drawn up a plan. I would've brought more to show, but none of the RainWings felt like accompanying me. They just sat there dejectedly or tried to claw my eyes out, screaming obscenities and madness." He giggled. "Ah, what fun!"
"Make it quick..." Battlewinner rasped. "I don't have all day..."
Mastermind exhaled. "Fine. I can make do with that." He pulled out some scrollpaper, clearing his throat. "So, I've been experimenting a bit. I recall our previous conversation. You told me that you wanted a way to join us on land. Reasonable to want to walk amongst your citizens on the land you've fought so hard to rightfully claim. However, due to your- ahem- situation, it's a bit difficult to do so. I've spent weeks and weeks of countless nights, having to listen to the perpetual wailing of those RainWings. Do you know what it's like? It's enjoyable in the daytime, but at night it's quite annoying-"
"I said make it quick."
He snorted. "Alright. Fine." He presented the paper to Battlewinner. "I've been drafting a suit of armour. A light enough design for you to comfortably walk around in, but with enough space between the plates for one to pour fresh lava to keep you from dying." He pushed up his glasses. "Enough of an explanation to hold you over?"
Battlewinner stayed quiet for a second. "...you're certain it wouldn't kill me?.."
"Oh, definitely. I mean, what kind of royal scientist would I be? To kill my own queen by tricking her?" He laughed, pushing Morrowseer in the side. "Funny, isn't it?"
"The idea of you murdering our tribe's queen isn't exactly what I would call 'humour'."
"No fun. Neither of you. Don't know how to take a joke." He looked towards his queen, who was submerged in boiling hot lava and glaring at him with murderous intent. "But, back to the topic. I'm still working out some of the kinks in order to get a proper design that won't let the lava bleed through and kill you, but the idea is solid enough. Lava is extremely dense. By my calculations, it's practically three times more dense than water. There should be enough room between the plates and your scales for as much lava as is necessary to keep you alive as well as to let you move around freely. Perhaps even fly! Although, it'll take quite a lot of testing."
"How long will this take?..."
"Well, let's see." Mastermind held his talons to his chin. "Combined with the materials and...no, carry the fourteen...adding on that I'm dying of seven afflictions...hm, yes! My prediction is that I will complete a prototype version in less than two weeks."
"I need a better answer than that, scholar..." she grumbled. "I need a final product. I need it now. I need armour to protect me from venom. I need to walk among my dragons once more. I need to lead them into battle and take what's OURS-" Battlewinner cut herself off, going into a coughing fit. She quickly submerged under the lava once more.
"Uhh...she alright?"
"Yes. She tends to get...ramped up. It speeds up the process of the frostbreath. Too much and she needs to warm her body once again."
"Oh, thank the moons. I believed she was furious at me."
"She definitely is annoyed by you."
"Hm. Don't care though." He shrugged. "This is who I am. If anybody doesn't fit it appealing, it's their issue."
"Yes, it really is our issue that you go around talking like an idiot with no self-awareness or humility." Morrowseer glanced at him. "When was the last time you had a dragon nearly kill you? Remind me again. I think it's been far too long since the last time someone had put you in your place."
Mastermind chuckled. "I didn't know you were capable of such bold words! Ah, but I do understand. The wisest dragons shouldn't need to bother themselves with such brutality though. It's much...simpler, fighting and war. Doesn't require half a brain to use your fire and claws. It must be why you're in charge of that department."
"You..." Morrowseer's claws tensed. Before he could get another word out, Battlewinner came rising from the lava once more.
"I accept your proposal, Mastermind..." she said. "I expect you to show me progress soon..." Without saying anything else, she dipped back into the pool.
"She said yes! Aha!! I knew she would!" He laughed. "It's truly a fool-proof plan. I would start to question the leadership and intelligence of her if she had refused." He turned around. "Now! I must return to my lab. I have a suit of armour to build. Finally, something other to do other than poke and prod the RainWings. It's invigorating, but tiring after a while, no?"
"Yes, it gets exhausting to watch the torment of a dragon."
"It does! You get it."
"I was being sarcastic."
"...oh."

Sunday 27th October 2024
The alarm clock was set early today in preparation for our Yellow Water sunrise cruise. Daring the alarm clock to sound early, at 5.30 I sat outside on our decking; sky still black, air silent. Then, just about 5.40, the slightest glimmer of light appeared softly in the east, and almost at that very moment the birds, one by one started to sing, as we jointly recognised the moment of dawn.
The little bus collected us from the Cooinda Lodge and took us the 5 minute ride to the pier on Yellow Water for the two hour cruise before breakfast.
Straightaway on leaving the jetty a crocodile appeared on the starboard bow, a scene to be repeated many times. As the trip progressed, it became evident that the profusion of wildlife presented the hunter and hunted, eating or eaten brigades. Crocodiles defending their territory; opportunistic predators. Sea eagles in their lofty heights always on the lookout. We watched a darter bird catch a long skinny fish and was manoeuvring it to slide seamlessly down its throat, when out of the blue from almost nowhere swept in a whistling duck, grabbed the fish out of the darter's open beak and carried it off as a main course for breakfast. A kingfisher sat on a railing. A female black necked crane (Jabiru) held its head high, looking for breakfast whilst a pelican trawled by the waters edge. A myriad of exotic species in every direction, and all the while the underwater menace, relic of a bygone dinosaur epoc, the crocodile encircling the boat or lies motionless, muddy on the river bank while small colourful wading birds fearlessly taunt the rasor toothed jaws. Two men were fishing from a small craft, and pulling their catch every few minutes. Each time a fish came out of the water, so a spectator croc would appear. Most fish would need to be thrown back. Baramundi between 55 and 90cm can be kept at this time of year. The remainder live another day. What a cruise! We saw the sun climb from horizon to high in the sky, before we were returned to the lodge for a late but very welcome breakfast. Contemplating what we had just witnessed, in this vast region once visited by Charles Darwin, we wonder just where in the evolutionary chain we humans actually do belong, and then take another bite into a defenceless sausage!
After a little downtime we set off walking to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre just 18 minutes walk away from our lodge. What an informative place this is. The problem we find is that to understand a culture so different from our own is far from easy. For example, when a person in a clan dies, they will not mention the name of that person for 2-3 years. Although they had an excellent exhibition, we were not permitted to take photographs. Rocks are linked to spirits and stories are sacred. It is a minefield full of pitfalls that we might fall into and offend somebody. What was useful was that some of what we learned earlier on the cruise tied into some of the stuff we read here. They referred a lot this morning to 'the language ' or indigenous words. It is often said that there are only two seasons here in the tropics; wet and dry. But breaking this down a bit further it is accepted that there could be four. The aboriginies might say there are six. These were referred to in the exhibition. It is fascinating but highly complicated. And this is one region, just a few clans, and many more spread across the continent, all with their own individual languages. So we do our bit, smile and say a very polite hello, and never take their photo unless they are not looking!
We were enjoying a little R&R on our patio when a small golf buggy type vehicle pulled up by our lodge. A young chap got out and headed towards us. Martine? he enquired. Because you are staying a whole week, we have a small gift for you. And he handed over a plate of sweet cake type things and a Cooinda Lodge keyring. For you he said. Thanks very much we said. That sort of correlates with the odd look we received when we arrived, perhaps. As mum used to say, all small gifts gratefully received, big ones grabbed at!
Evening meal tonight is also somewhat curtesy of the management. We bought noodles in Coles before we left Darwin. We sneaked cooked sausages out of breakfast and made a meal up out of it. Great.
ps. I might have put too much chilli in it

Shipwrecked with no memory of who we were before Chapter 3
Summary: In this story, Aziraphale and Crowley have woken up on a tropical island with no memory of who they were before. In Chapter 1 they took the names Asclepius(Aziraphale) and Caduceus (Crowley) when they figured out that they had the ability to heal and Crowley could turn into a giant winged serpent. In Chapter 2 they start falling for each other, again, because romance without roadblocks is why I wrote this fic!
In Chapter 3 Asclepius and Caduceus wake up after their joint healing and find that a great deal has changed. More mystery while they are falling fast for each other. Chapter 3 does end with a NSFW non-explicit, very mature, spicy scene only in Ao3. It ends with a kiss here in Tumblr.
Sendarya's Discord Prompt a week 2024 challenge Prompts: 1) Eden 2)fanart (a beautiful, tender, non-explicit, start of a kiss between Aziraphale and Crowley and inspiration for their first kiss here) https://www.tumblr.com/selene-yoshi-chan/190056389466/cobragardens-selene-yoshi-chan-ineffable-mess?source=share
Work text:
Asclepius and Caduceus lay facing each other, foreheads nearly touching, hands clasped, eyes closed within a glow of almost preternatural health. Their heads rest on something golden while little plants have grown all around them like a green carpet. Black lava beneath Caduceus peeks through the dense growth, creating the look of large black wings while white flowers trail away from Asclepius like bright feathers.
Waking at almost the same time, Asclepius and Caduceus smile at each other.
Asclepius tries to blink the glow from his vision, so relieved to see the golden-orange eyes flutter open, see the healthy color on Caduceus’ cheeks and the muscle filled out on his chest again, says, “You look so well! I feel so well. Did our healing work all the way this time?”
“Seems like it to me, for both of us,” Caduceus admires the extra flush in Asclepius’ cheeks that was missing before, then looks perplexed, “I smell sheep. Do you smell sheep?”
“Sheep?” Asclepius replies, “Well, yes, now that you mention it.”
They sit up in the new greensward of tiny flowers and sweet-scented grass suddenly growing all around them, looking at what they were resting on.
Caduceus points, “Where’d this sheepskin come from? And what happened to the beach we lay down on?” They are laying not on white sands but golden wool.
“My goodness! That’s a golden fleece! Where did that come from?” Asclepius exclaims.
“‘S pretty soft, for gold,” Caduceus pats the fleece, “Aren’t golden fleece thingummies supposed to possess all kinds of health and vitality and share it with all those in the local place, kindof thing?” asks Caduceus speculatively.
Asclepius replies, “Yes, all that and I’m quite certain we would have noticed if we had one before!” he looks down and around, while Caduceus looks up.
Wheeling flocks of birds, brightly colored and raucous are flying over a dense forest that wasn’t there before. High, eroded, green cloaked cliffs with the occasional sparkling waterfall now rise out of the water far down the beach. Dolphins play just off the reef.
“The island got taller,” remarks Caduceus dryly, looking further up what may be a dormant volcano, or, possibly not...dormant that is.
“Ah, and the wildlife got more…wild.” Asclepius states, standing now to look around.
Several turkey-sized gray birds waddle into the undergrowth, Caduceus points at them, "Those are extinct,” he states flatly.
Asclepius watches as the last dodo steps behind a fern, “Not those ones, apparently,” Caduceus huffs, “But yes, they were too delicious for their own good, as I recall.”
They continue to study their new surroundings, noticing the shelter and their supplies are still nearby, unchanged.
In a taking-stock sort of voice, Caduceus inquires, “O-kay… Asclepius, what were you thinking about for our healing, just now? Just out of curiosity, you know?”
Asclepius looking up the mountain replies, “I was trying to bring back our natural healthy state, make us strong enough to heal and weather any more storms that might be on the way in future. What about you?” Asclepius asks conversationally, as rainbows shimmer between the distant waterfalls.
Caduceus shrugs, “I mean, same as before, really. I wanted to fight the wound that was hurting you, get rid of it completely. Destroy that parasite thing on me. It really hacks me off to see wonderful things maimed and destroyed… again! Senseless and wasteful, that! Like destroying a beautiful painting or killing off some incredible species!” his voice is winding up for a lengthy rant.
Asclepius smiles and blushes, “You think I’m wonderful?”
Caduceus stops mid-rant, then turns to Asclepius, and the tight-wound fighter energy, the glib replies, the veneer of confidence all melt away. Vulnerable and open, Caduceus gently touches Asclepius’ hair, brushes his cheek, places his palm over Asclepius’ heart before stepping back, arms and hands loose at his sides. A deep loneliness surfaces in Caduceus’ gaze, his shoulders rounding as he says, “Look at you, you’re gorgeous!” a catch in his voice like part of him doesn’t believe that Asclepius could possibly return his feelings.
Asclepius’ prim formality evaporates along with lingering echoes of harsh ‘standards’ of how one should comport oneself that were just protection from some deep-seated but now untethered fears of being judged and persecuted for acknowledging or expressing his feelings. The constant self-scrutiny burns away like heavy fog as the doors of his heart burst open. Then his brow furrows, Caduceus doesn’t know, doesn’t realize? Is gazing at him as though the only thing he expects is a blow to fall?
“Oh! You glorious creature! You take my breath away!” eyes sparkling with unshed tears, Asclepius shines as Caduceus’ face transforms in unexpected wonder.
Utterly defenseless to one another, they reach out at the same time, drifting forward, eyes closing, their lips meet, an almost chaste brush of lips. ‘How soft, how incredibly soft ,’ Asclepius thinks, partaking of the gentlest of kisses. ‘ How warm, how welcoming, ’ Caduceus sighs. They share featherlight kisses over and over again. Holding each other delicately, tenderly as unexpected tears pour out like gentle rain. Having such deep wells of emotion open up without context disorients them. They cling to one another as their only stable anchor in this ever changing landscape, somehow recognizing that this has been the case for most of their existence. Kissing away each other’s loneliness as haunting wisps of half-remembered pain surface before melting away, they tremble and shake. Finally, they stand in each other’s arms, just resting against one another, feeling a security that wasn’t there before.
Slowly becoming aware of the sea breeze, the sound of waves and the almost tangible growth of the island around them, Caduceus sighs into Asclepius' hair, “That felt like we’d been holding our feelings back for a long, long time.”
“Oh, yes, for ages and ages,” Asclepius replies, resting his head in the curve of Caduceus' shoulder, hand on his own his chest, “I feel so much better now, but so…tender! And you, dear, dear Caduceus?” moving his palm over to Caduceus' chest.
“You have my happiness and my heart in your hands, Asclepius. I love you,” Caduceus says simply as they stand together.
“I love you, too, Caduceus.” Asclepius says, looking into Caduceus’ eyes and then resting their foreheads together gently.
***
After awhile, Caduceus says reluctantly, “I would rather stay here holding you, but I think we should probably figure out if we’re still on the same island,”
Asclepius smiles at him, indicates the island, “Indeed. Well, the mountain and those cliffs are in the same place as ours were, just significantly bigger . Do you think we did this?”
Caduceus looks surprised. “Us? Did we grow the island and all these creatures? That’s rather a leap from collapsing on each other with our healing attempts, don’t you think?”
Asclepius tilts his head, and asks candidly, “Did you keep your promise?”
Caduceus looks confused, “What? Me? Yeah! I was only ‘moderately trying’ to heal us. Everything just fizzed up and kept rolling out from my first try.”
Asclepius looks thoughtful, “Mmm, yes. I was only giving it a moderate effort. I felt it rather run away from me like a horse with the bit between its teeth, so to speak. This is awfully…exuberant.”
Caduceus suggests, “We could test that theory, you know.”
“The island building? How?” asks Asclepius, puzzled.
“We can both make light. We could do that separately and then together. See what the difference is,” suggests Caduceus and putting word to action says, “Let there be light!” producing the same friendly bright orb.
“Oh, I see! And however much the light is increased when we do it together, that’s how much our working together boosts the uh, ‘power’ so to speak? Light please,” Asclepius produces his own little orb, “That felt the same as last night!”
“Right and now together!” Caduceus says, then hesitates before grabbing Asclepius’ hand again, looks up at the, ri-ight, that’s an active volcano, “Maybe we should try producing an amount of light that’s easy to figure out how much more power we make together,” Caduceus suggests.
“Oh, good idea…What’s the least amount of light it’s possible for us to measure, do you think?” Asclepius asks politely.
“One photon. Like this,” Caduceus demonstrates.
“Wonderful! Here’s mine,” Asclepius makes his one photon light (human observers would not have detected anything).
Molten lava flow glows off the back of the island. Caduceus says thoughtfully, “And I can make that little light, say, a kilometer off the island. For a second?” and demonstrates this, too.
“Lovely! “ Asclepius gives Caduceus a mildly quizzical look, “We’re just being overly circumspect and making it easy on ourselves to measure, correct? Only, I have this little niggle…”
“Ye-ah. I see your point. Better make it five kilometers,” Caduceus holds out his hand and grins at Asclepius, “Can’t be too cautious, right?”
***
“I like your hair like this,” remarks Asclepius, lightly, looking at the lightened red-orange highlights in Caduceus’ hair and beard.
“You say that because sitting on the golden fleece healed our sunburn immediately,” Caduceus says dryly.
“Mmm, yes, but at least we know,” replies Asclepius.
“Know what!? That even you won’t sunburn if you lay out on the golden fleece? Oh, and us making one photon each of light together made a flash like a fission reaction go off!!!” Caduceus chokes a bit on his frayed calm..
“Know that we did restore the island and all these creatures when we worked together,” Asclepius explains patiently, leaning over and nudging Caduceus’ shoulder.
Caduceus grimaces, “Handy for getting out of a bind. But, we need some serious practice if we don’t want to overshoot so much in future.”
Caduceus claps his hands against his thighs, standing up off the fleece, offers Asclepius a hand up, “Come on, let's check if we created any rampaging herds of swine or prehistoric beasts that will tread through our camp whilst we sleep. Want to see if I can fly us both around the island?”
Asclepius stands, as well, “Oh, can you!? I'd love to be able to fly.”
Transforming into a winged serpent, Caduceus gently encircles Asclepius. His great dark wings swirling the golden motes that still sparkle in the air, easily carry them both aloft. “You’re light as a feather, Asclepius!” cries Caduceus as they rise above the treetops.
“This is marvelous!” Asclepius calls back over the wingbeats. The great snake’s skin is warm in the sunlight, his scales smooth and polished like obsidian, red jasper, and amber. The strong coils adjust in their flight so Asclepius has no fear of falling. Together, they fly up the shoulders of the volcano, lush and verdant on their side over the lagoon, and rugged and austere with blown out pumice and smooth lava flows on the other side. Bright lava is flowing into the sea, building the island even more while offshore steam rises from an underwater seamount. On the other end of the island, the high cliffs are from a dormant caldera with a broad breach in the rim in which a beautiful valley lies protected on three sides. Streams sparkle within it. Off shore on their side, the lagoon and surrounding reef is larger, brighter.
“It looks like we made the island younger and more diverse!” calls Asclepius.
Cadeus points his head at the protected valley, “That and the stronger reef would make weathering a big storm safer. We’d be out of luck if the volcano exploded, but right now it just seems to be busy building more island.”
“Can you see any more islands or ships?” asks Asclepius.
But even from this height, as far as they can see, they are alone, no ships or islands on the horizon. Nothing flies in the air but seabirds and land birds, and Caduceus, of course.
While scanning the seas, they see a new pod of dolphins enter the lagoon with several showing signs of injury. “Those newcomers look hurt! Shall we see if we can help them out?” Asclepius points.
“I’ll land on the little spit of sand on the reef there. We can enter the water human shaped,” replies Caduceus heading over toward the dolphins. He touches down and returns to human form. It’s an odd but not unpleasant sensation, as Asclepius feels the embrace change from strong coils to strong arms. Turning, he kisses Caduceus’ snake tattoo, sending a shiver down Caduceus’ form and whispering, “You are remarkable,” before turning to the dolphins. Some of the pod has been watching the strange arrival, and further developments. From the little spit of sand on the reef, Asclepius and Caduceus dive in and swim over to the sea mammals who are supporting their most grievously injured member.
“I say! Can we be of assistance? Caduceus and myself, Asclepius, have some healing skills,” calls Asclepius in fluent dolphin.
Caduceus in human mode treads water next to him as he feels the pod look them over with sonar.
“Humans don’t usually speak dolphin, but then, you aren’t humans exactly, are you?” a mature female calls back. “ If you can help, we’d appreciate it. Stanley* can’t go on much longer, even in this lagoon.”
Stanley is easy to identify, with his podmates helping him keep his blowhole above water and with an all too familiar wound in his side.
“We should just do this one together. We already know how bloody difficult it’ll be, otherwise,” suggests Caduceus.
“But just a teeny, tiny joint healing,” Asclepius warns.
“ We can heal every sick or injured dolphin in your group. We just need to all be touching at the time,” calls Caduceus. The female leader and a grizzled old fellow, the least injured, ferry them over to Stanley when she offers, “We’ll keep you above water. You probably can’t heal and try to swim at the same time."
Grasping hands over the backs of their supporting dolphins, Ascelpius and Caduceus touch Stanley and through him, every dolphin in the pod. All are weary or injured in some way, but Stanley is close to death.
“ On the count of three. One, two, three!” This time their healing seems to stay within the pod.
Several male dolphins excitedly caress the healed Stanley* all speaking so quickly that neither Asclepius nor Caduceus can understand them.
(*Of course “Stanley” is just a human version of his name, as Stanley’s name was a series of sounds that humans are incapable of making nor do we have any way of writing them down. Stanley just thought “Stanley” sounded cool.)
“ Our thanks, Healers,” says the female leader.
“You're ever so welcome! We're just delighted to be able to help!” Asclepius replies.
Caduceus asks, “ How were you hurt? Even humans generally revere your kind,” anger sparkling in his words.
“ We do not know. We remember a terrible storm, then we found ourselves in calm seas. We sought this refuge to heal our wounded. What say you?” replies the female leader.
“ Same as you. Storm, injury, memory gaps. Stay as long as you like. Seems like we’ve got plenty of fish to go around,” offers Caduceus.
Asclepius gushes, “ Oh please stay! I didn’t know I could talk to you before today!” The female tenderly brushes her pectoral fin against Asclepius. “ We shall be friends, then. And friends don’t let friends bleed on the reef and attract sharks, so we’re taking you to shore. So say I, Shayla*, leader of this pod.”
( *When told that her chosen human name evokes a warrior queen, Shayla replies, ‘ Of course ’)
Waving at the dolphins, they stand shoulder to shoulder, then their hands find one another and they look out at the lagoon, fingers entwined, gently twisting and touching. Smiling at each other again, they walk up the beach to their shelter. Looking hopefully into the pot, Asclepius’ stomach growls. But they ate everything last night.
“Look!” Asclepius spies a new mango tree with ripe fruit and makes directly for it, hungry and thirsty from their busy morning. Caduceus grabs a basin and a knife and follows after. The tree is covered in luscious smelling fruits from hard green to softly blushing red over rich orange-yellows.
Asclepius has already started picking ripe fruits and looks up happily when Caduceus offers the basin. Filling it with mangos, they take it with them over to the stream to splash their faces and drink the cool, clear water.
Asclepius prepares a mango, cutting out the large oval seed and cross-hatching the remaining halves. Folding the skin inside out pops chunks of mango into a sudden bouquet of edible bites. It looks like a magic trick.
“ Voilà ,” Asclepius hands a mango half over to Caduceus, who takes a bite of the exquisite fruit. The rich scent and flavor burst in his mouth but the juices surprise him, spilling over his lips. He finds himself slurping up the mango pieces off the skin, so as not to miss a drop, not quite realizing all the happy noises he’s making, so intent is he on getting every last piece.
“Aaaa, that was good! How was yours?” Looking up, Caduceus sees Asclepius hasn’t started his mango, but sits staring at him a little flushed, even in the shade.
“Are you alright? If you don’t want your mango, I’ll have yours. They’re delicious! Only the juice gets all over, ya know?” Caduceus is licking his fingers now.
Still gazing at Caduceus, Asclepius brings the mango to his mouth. His first bite closes his eyes ecstatically as the juices run into his beard. Slurping the next piece, and the next, he moans at the delightful flavors. By the time Asclepius finishes his half of the mango, Caduceus has figured out what had been troubling his love before, because he thinks he has the same affliction. Bodies, who knew?
Asclepius opens his eyes, flustered to see Caduceus staring back at him, “You were right, that was a really excellent mango! Would you fancy another one?” he turns to select another mango as good as that first one, not quite sure what to do with his strange new feelings.
When Asclepius turns back, hands empty, Caduceus captures his face and kisses him fiercely. Asclepius tastes like the exquisite mango with a wild undertone.
Asclepius wraps his arms around Caduceus’ back, slips his tongue past Caduceus’ lips eliciting a moan which tastes sweet in Asclepius' mouth, resonates in his chest and reverberates further down....

Aegimius.
The galaxy of Aegimius. It holds, well, everything. Everything we know at least. Anyone who's ever tried to travel outside of the galaxies bounds has never returned, communications equipment immediately failing. Any unpiloted drones would be disconnected, and video feed terminated. Many speculate that nothing else does exist, and that once they explore the entirety of Aegimius, that that's it. Nothing else.
I can tell you right now that they're wrong though.
There is more to the world, there is so much more than they could ever imagine. They just aren't ready for it yet. I know because I control it, tuning the galaxy carefully, like the strings on a violin.
In concept I am not a being. I am everything, everything they know.
I am Aegimius, and I am your creator.
Our story starts on a space station, The 77.
The 77 is the 77th space station built by NxTGen in the galaxy of Aegimius. It's the largest of the bunch, holding an average of five thousand residents, with a ton of extra room for tourists. It orbits around the planet of Itania, home to a native alien species Itanians. The planet is popular for its tropical scenery and hot springs. Many come here for a vacation, and prefer to stay on the space station rather than the planet.
There are 17 floors.
Floor 1: The top floor, reserved only for personnel, and where the bridge resides.
Floor 2: Crew quarters and accommodations
Floor 3: Station-wide accommodations, doctors, gyms, and such
Floors 4-6: Food. Restaurants, bars, anything you can think of, these floors have got it all
Floor 7: The Arcade, not the biggest in the galaxy, but the most popular for sure.
Floors 8-9: Shops!! There plenty of room for residents (or visitors!) to set up their own shops!
Floors 10-11: The atrium!! Takes up two floors, plants and wildlife everywhere
Floors 12-15: Apartments and guest lodging!! Living quarters for anybody who's not crew
Floors 16-17: Storage and shuttle bays
The 77 was originally constructed to be the first ever mobile space station with a warp drive, letting it travel all over the galaxy. But the plans failed after a few runs, and it is now stuck in orbit of Itania, fortunately enough it works out. NexaTech workers have been on board for 2 years, trying to determine the cause of failure, but one has yet to be found.
So what is NxTGen?
NxTGen is the organization responsible for most of what goes on in the galaxy, formed of countless alien worlds, all united in a pursuit of knowledge. More goes on behind the scenes of course, but you don't need to know about that just yet.
There are 3 subdivisions of NxTGen.
NexaTech: Responsible for pretty much everything tech related, from lighting fixtures, to entire ships. Also responsible for all Self-Autonomous Units (like SAURT)
Teranova: The division that makes up ship personnel, and most of our characters. You will notice the organizations symbol on those who do work for them.
X-Corp: The military division. Yeah, they're as bad as you think they are.
Okay. You mentioned Itania, what is that?
Let's start larger. The Manolla System. 7 planets in this system but only 2 hold sentient life, one being Itania, the other being Edyria. Because of the proximity to the station, many of our residents are made up of the two species hailing from these planets.
Interesting… so our residents? What about them?
That's a tale for another time.
#This will be updated as more comes out#But for now here's what I've got#original characters#original universe#intro post
