|You and Matt had decided to relieve yourself of some heat. Matt Sturniolo.
Au: This is my first time writing smut, so I can't promise that it will be good, but I'll make sure I get better. If you have any requests, pls, feel free to drop them down in the comments.
It was 35°C in Arizona, and as the sun blazed overhead, the air felt thick and unyielding, as if it had absorbed the heat of a hundred summers past. The merciless sun bore down, turning the concrete jungle of the city into a giant heat sink. You wiped the beads of sweat from your forehead with the back of your hand, the moisture immediately evaporating, leaving behind a salty residue. This was hotter than you had ever felt since moving here.
You had chosen to wear a flimsy pink tank top and black shorts in a desperate attempt to stay cool, but it was like wearing a second skin. The material clung to your body, the color darkening in the patches where your sweat had soaked through. The shorts barely covered your thighs and the fabric was sticking to your skin, leaving uncomfortable lines that you knew would soon turn into a rash. Despite the heat, you felt a shiver run down your spine at the thought of peeling them off at the end of the day.
The fan in the corner of the room spun lazily, a half-hearted attempt to stir the thick, stagnant air. It's plastic blades chopped at the heat with all the grace of a dull knife, creating a feeble breeze that barely reached the couch where you sat. The noise it made was more annoying than soothing, a constant, futile whirring that seemed to mock your discomfort. You glared at it, willing it to do its job with more enthusiasm, but it remained stubbornly ineffective. You had bought it second-hand at a garage sale, thinking it would be a lifesaver, but now you wondered if it had ever worked properly at all.
The TV droned on in the background, a reality show that you had long ago lost interest in. The contestants squabbled over something trivial, their high-pitched voices cutting through the heat like nails on a chalkboard. You reached for the remote, but the thought of searching for something else to watch was too exhausting. Instead, you let the mindless chatter wash over you, hoping it would fill the void of your boredom. You had read all your books, watched every show worth watching, and even tried to tackle the crossword puzzles from last week's newspaper, but your brain felt fried.
From the other room, the sound of your best friend's laughter floated through the wall. He was live-streaming a video game, his voice a welcome relief from the oppressive silence that had settled over the apartment. You hadn't talked to him all day, and the sound of his voice was a comforting reminder that the world outside your stifling four walls was still spinning. You pictured him in the glow of his gaming setup, surrounded by posters of superheroes and sci-fi landscapes, lost in a world where the heat couldn't touch him. You felt a twinge of envy and wished you could share in his escape.
Deciding to go annoy him, you pushed yourself off the sticky couch and padded down the hallway in your socks. The floorboards were warm underfoot, radiating heat that seemed to come from the very core of the building. You reached his door and, without knocking, swung it open with a dramatic flourish. The sudden influx of light from the hallway was blinding, the stark contrast with the darkness of his room making it difficult to see.
"Yo. Pass to the left. Fucking left," he screamed into his headset, his eyes glued to the screen. The sound of digital gunfire filled the room, and the smell of sweat and nachos hung in the air like a heavy fog. His curtains were drawn shut, blocking out the relentless sun and the outside world. The only light came from the flickering screen of his computer, casting a neon glow on his sweaty face. He didn't acknowledge your presence, his fingers dancing over the keyboard as if they had a mind of their own.
You stomped your feet a little, annoyed by his obliviousness to your misery. The floorboards beneath you groaned in protest, echoing the frustration you felt. "Hey, Earth to Matt!" you called out, trying to be heard over the cacophony of his virtual battlefield.
But he continued to ignore you, his eyes never leaving the screen. His character on the game dodged and weaved through a digital hailstorm of bullets, and his laughter grew more intense as he outsmarted his opponents. You rolled your eyes and took a seat on the floor next to his desk chair, crossing your legs and leaning back against the coolness of the wall. The coldness of the paint felt heavenly on your hot skin, and you took a deep breath, inhaling the faint scent of dust and old textbooks that had gathered in the corner.
You watched him for a few minutes, the colors of the screen reflecting off his glasses and painting his face in a chaotic array of shadows and light. His focus was unbreakable, his hands moving in a blur of button presses and mouse clicks. The air-conditioning unit in the window rattled and hummed, working overtime to combat the heat that seeped in from the outside world. You envied his ability to be so absorbed in a game when all you could think about was the oppressive heat.
Deciding to get his attention, you stood back up and slid into his lap, blocking his view of the screen. He yelped, his hands jerking in surprise, causing his character to spray bullets in every direction except where they needed to be. "What the hell, Ems?" he exclaimed, his eyes finally leaving the screen to look at you. His eyes widened when he saw the look on your face.
"I'm bored," you groaned, your voice heavy with the weight of the stifling heat. "And hot. And sticky. And did I mention bored?"
Matt looked at you, his eyes flicking from the game screen to your face. He paused the game, his character frozen mid-leap, and pushed his glasses up his nose. "Come on, Em. You know I'm in the middle of a raid here. Can't you see?"
You sighed and leaned back, letting your head rest on his shoulder. "It's just so hot, Matt. I can't even think straight."
He didn't reply as he placed his hand on the laptop's keyboard, his thumbs poised over the space bar. His eyes remained glued to the screen, where his character remained suspended in the digital crossfire. The silence stretched out between you, thick and uncomfortable.
With a grumble, he finally turned to face you. "Alright, fine," he said, peeling your arms from around his neck. "Let's do something. But you gotta let me save the game first."
While he hastily tapped away at the keys, you slumped back against the wall, feeling the stickiness of the paint on your bare back. "What do you want to do?" he asked, not looking up.
You chewed your bottom lip, thinking hard. "Truth or dare, but we drink or strip," you said with a wicked grin, watching as his eyes lit up with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The heat was getting to you, and the idea of shedding layers sounded heavenly. Plus, it had been ages since you two had played a proper game of truth or dare. It was time to spice things up.
Matt looked at you skeptically. "You know you're terrible at that game!"
You smirked. "Yeah, but I'll surely get to see you strip," you commented, raising an eyebrow. The corner of his mouth twitched as he tried to suppress a grin. He knew you had a point. The heat had everyone on edge, and the prospect of peeling off layers was becoming increasingly tempting.
Matt leaned back in his chair and nodded. "Alright, alright,"
He said, his thumb hovering over the save button. "But no funny business, got it?" He winked, his eyes still on the screen. You rolled your own in return, already planning the first dare you would give him.
The game was saved, and he spun his chair around to face you. The room was now eerily quiet, with only the occasional distant siren piercing the silence. He leaned back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest. "Alright, Ems. You start."
You smirked at him, the heat no longer a bother as the excitement of the game filled you. "Truth or dare, Matt?"
He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking under his weight, and took a deep breath. "Truth."
The words hung in the air, thick and charged with anticipation. You felt your heart skip a beat. This was your chance to find out something juicy. "Okay," you said, your voice low and deliberate. "Have you ever had a sex dream about me?"
Matt's thumb hovered over the space bar, frozen mid-click. He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed hard. You watched with glee, the heat in the room momentarily forgotten. His cheeks flushed a deep shade of red, and his eyes darted from you to the floor and back again. He was clearly caught off guard.
"What?" he said, his voice a squeak that didn't quite match his usual laid-back tone. He tried to feign innocence, but the way his eyes widened was a dead giveaway.
You leaned in closer, your voice coming to a whisper. "You heard me. A sex dream. About me."
Matt's face grew even redder, if that was possible. He looked like a lobster that had just realized it was in a pot of boiling water. He swallowed again, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. "Ems, that's not cool."
But you were enjoying this too much to let up. "Oh, come on, Matt. It's just a game," you said, your eyes gleaming with mischief.
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Alright, fine. But only because it's so hot in here that my brain cells are frying." He paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts.
"I have," he began, his eyes locked onto yours. "But it was just a dream, you know? Nothing to read into."
You giggled, feeling a thrill run through you at his admission. "Juicy," you murmured, leaning back against the wall with your arms crossed over your chest.
Matt sighed heavily, his shoulders dropping. He looked at you with a mix of annoyance and resignation, peeling off his shirt in one swift motion. The material stuck to his skin briefly before coming away with a wet sound, revealing his toned torso glistening with sweat. He tossed the shirt aside, and the sudden coolness of his bare skin made him shiver, despite the heat.
"Better?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as he took a swig from his beer.
You nodded, unable to tear your eyes away from his bare chest. The light from the computer screen danced across the planes of his abs, and you felt a bead of sweat trickle down your own back in response. "Yeah, I guess," you managed to say, your voice a little breathier than you had intended.
"Alright, your turn," he said, his eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint. "Truth or dare, Ems?"
You took a moment to consider your options. The heat had made your thoughts feel sluggish, but the game was already starting to work its magic, bringing a rush of excitement to cut through the lethargy. "Dare," you said, your voice firm.
Matt leaned in, his grin widening. "Twerk to the sexiest song you can think of," he said without missing a beat.
You stared at him, your eyes narrowing. "You're kidding, right?"
Matt's grin only widened as he took another swig of his beer. "Nope. Dare is a dare, remember?"
"I'm not doing it." and saying that you take off your socks.
Matt's eyes widened in surprise as he took in your bare feet. "Cheater," he exclaimed, his voice a mix of amusement and accusation.
"What, I stripped didn't I?" you said with a laugh, holding up your socks like a trophy. The room felt a little less stifling now that you had peeled off the sticky fabric. You took a deep breath, enjoying the feeling of cooler air against your skin.
Matt chuckled and shrugged. "Fine, but you're not getting out of the next one that easy," he warned.
Au: How was it? I wrote it for two hours before editing it for another one , just to make sure it's perfect.
P.S: Remember to vote at the poll above to tell me how you enjoy reading this so that I can make the next chapter.
Bye My loves.

Issue 33, 12/27/2023 - The Overseer
Issue Masterpost About the Overseer
As Hermitcraft Season 9 has come to a close last week, our citizens are also wrapping up their business in preparation to the move to a new world. We have seen many of the Hermits already leave to take a hiatus before the new Season and the new year (aside from Impulse, the mad lad). Thus, we have brought a couple of recaps of the amazing creations brought on by the Hermits this season. Hope you enjoy!
The Wondrous World of Scarland
By Azure
This year, we saw the construction of Scarland, thanks to the creative mind of Goodtimeswithscar. For him, Scarland has been a longtime dream, and it’s amazing to see his vision take place. After completing his Elven Village, he soon began construction on the theme park. Opening to the public on August 25th 2023, Scarland is one of the most magical places on Hermitcraft.
Starting on June 20th 2022, Main Street was the first area to be completed. As you enter, you’ll see a statue of Goodtimeswithscar himself and Queen Jellie, holding hands and standing proudly as they welcome visitors into Scarland. The Main Street also serves as the first stop for Scarland’s trolley system, and is home to stunning shops and carts where visitors may purchase snacks, posters and even their very own pair of Jellie ears, amongst other things. Most notably, it is home to the Scarland Hotel, and the official hOtguY HQ! Many of the buildings were inspired by different styles of architecture, and the final stores were completed.
Continuing down Main Street, we arrive at the Castle of Scarland. This magical castle is where Scarlands nightly firework shows take place in a dazzling display of color. During the day, it’s just as magical, with its towers on full display, reaching for the sky! It is truly a sight to behold, reminiscent of a fairy tale come to life.
Most recently, Adventureland cleared its vines to welcome its first visitors! Featuring an awe-inspiring volcano that towers over even the Scarland Castle, the jungle is home to the beloved Ellie the Elephant, beautiful jungle landscapes and more.
Scarland truly is a magical place, and though it will never truly be complete, we are amazed by how far it’s come.
Now onto other news under the cut!
Geminitay, Geminislay, Gem the Great
By Roo
Gem Geminitay is wrapping up this season with a total of 34 videos as of the writing of this article, and every single one is a joy from beginning to end.
She began the season with her house in a tree, sparking the elven vibe for the season. She continued this with an archer statue, before taking on the large project of draining an ocean monument and turning this into a farm.
However, we must mention the iconic trio of this season- or, at least, one of them. In the very first episode, Pearl, Impulse, and Gem grouped up to raid a woodland mansion first thing, armed only with shoddy tools and nothing to eat but soup, earning their name- Soup Group.
Soup Group quickly became inseparable, building their megabases as close as hermitly possible, which is to say, with Gem on top of a mountain and Impulse inside it, Pearl across the river. Of course, with the rise of Ren the King, Soup Group took an entirely different approach, quickly becoming anarchists.
This entire time, Gem’s megabase was quickly growing. With the completion of her prismarine farm, Gem could continue her plans, even going so far as to work a mob farm into her base.
Said base quickly shifted from its original elven plans, with the addition of a head room in Gem’s basement, which gave Geminislay a chance to shine. Geminislay got yet another chance to shine at the challenge of Grian’s frog, Champ, who she defeated easily.
Her neighbors contributed to the building of her megabase as well, from proposing messaging systems, to building a redstone smiley face (quickly dubbed McKenzie) in the side of her wall.
The Soup Group did other things, though- Gem participated in the breaking and entering of King Ren’s vault, contributing her amazing PvP skills, no doubt collecting heads for her head room.
After the excitement of all that, Gem completed her megabase, and added a custom taiga biome to the surrounding area, adding countless details and custom trees.
The biome wasn’t the only tree in Gem’s plans- the top of her elven megabase was given a magnificent cherry tree, surpassing her starter treehouse by approximately 284* times its size.
With the addition of the tree, Gem moved on to the inside of the megabase, adding cozy libraries, sitting rooms, and dining rooms, which were quickly house warmed by a visit from Gem’s neighbors, and they broke in the new dining room with a round of soup.
Of course, Geminislay made yet another visit, absolutely demolishing Etho in countless rounds of PvP, making Gem the official holder of the most Etho heads ever.**
And then Decked Out started- giving Gem a lovely opportunity to use her PvP skills against ravagers, wardens, and- wait, the dungeon itself? Please don’t fight the dungeon, the dungeon master will not be happy.
Gem also spent time working on her village down by the sea, redoing many houses, making docks, and building statues. In most circumstances, Gem’s elven village would be voted safest place to live on Hermitcraft, but given the *ahem* murderous tendencies of the local Hermit, it may not be safe if you challenge Gem to a duel.
This article cannot sum up how truly impressive the things that Gem has built and accomplished are, and we at the news office can’t recommend that you all go check out Gem’s videos for yourselves. Despite this only being her second season, it’s impossible to imagine a Hermitcraft without her.
Grian Summed Up
by: Mateo!
Grian’s Hermitcraft Season 9 was established in the very beginning as a season rooted in nostalgia— evidenced by references to prior seasons through things like the designs on Dwayne, Grian’s megabase, the return of Grumbot, or a Hippie Bit.
The season started out with the creation of The Entity, which used the idea that everything sold at The Entity would have a visible indicator on the exterior of the shop like wood (a tree) and copper (stolen half of a water wheel from Grian’s starter base). Next there was a large farm dedicated to trading with villagers, then the creation of the Rift, established earlier as having tasted like grapes and battery acid. The Diamond Ore Race occured, then the Entity grew legs and moved, preparing the way for the megabase
Dwayne, Grian’s megabase of giant rocks both balanced against each other on the ground and floating in the air, had several buildings on it that resembled the architecture and color palette of his Season 8 megabase, as well as farms in several floating rocks, a broken bridge leading to Mumbo Jumbo’s vault, the entrance to the Rift and eventually, a rock dedicated to Resisting Creating A Resistance when Ren took over as king of the server.
Next came the reappearance of everyone's favorite Hermitcraft Robot. Grumbot was a big help in generating content, although he did seem to have a concerning habit of threatening the world if Mumbo wasn’t there.
More buildings were added to Dwayne, with the back of the base unfinished as per the norm, more content was generated by Grumbot (a prank involving the one and only GoodTimesWithScar, his obstacle course, and a charged creeper), and Grian assisted Gem and Impulse in their resistance against King Ren, therefore not directly creating a resistance.
Then… the Rift allowed many of the hermits, including Grian, as well as Grumbot, to visit their friends in the Empires SMP. Grian and Cub collaborated to create a machine that shrunk the Hermits to ‘hermit-sized’, and the entire hermit ensemble created Hermitopia as their temporary home in the other server. Fun was had, like a tea party under the bedrock while sitting on llamas, and LORE! was dropped. Eventually, the hermits made their way back to Hermitcraft but not before several of the Empires players came through the Rift.
The Secret Santa occured, giving Pearl the chance to organize Grian’s chest monster on a time limit, and the Empires friends had to return to their server. A new development with the water highways made transportation faster and led to the iconic Grian Cackles™ as the chaos unfolded.
The Incident, however, was a large change in pace. Grian and Scar messed up Doc’s world eater in a fabulous moment of miscommunication and double clicking a button, which led to the subsequent ban of the two from the Perimeter and the retaliation to the ban as Poultry Man and Hot Guy filled the Perimeter with chickens and created Lag Central. Hippies returned after this, as Mumbo, Scar, and Grian decided that Doc’s daily and nightly messages that ‘This is Doc’s world, you just live in it’ were annoying and needed changing.
The Buttercups, the hippies, created a camp on the edge of the Perimeter and several lovely design elements— ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ in yellow cursive on the side of the wall and a lovely cherry bonsai in a large pot that housed some giant robots that battled Doc and Ren’s robots, which generally caused destruction and chaos and laughter. The Buttercups also completed a monumental task in which they covered the entire surface of the perimeter AND terraformed it, which is a lot of time and a lot of blocks.
There were moments of hilarity strewn throughout the season as with the continuous back-and-forth of hermits messing with each other's copper as it aged, leading to instances like ‘sub[scribe to] scar’ and a large amogus, as well as the secret fools day that had Grian bringing back the infinity room to prank Impulse and Doc unleashing an unholy amount of ghasts upon the main starter base area and Grian and Scar, who were present at the time. The challenge of opening Mumbo’s vault, the trap of which Grian fell for every time and ultimately led to nothing; the episode where sand, gravel, concrete powder, or anvils falling all kicked Grian off of Minecraft; the chaos of Ren’s final day as King and hermits had to face Grian’s challenge, a very easy quiz; Hermits staging an intervention to get Grian to finish the back of his base; The Incident; the return of Decked Out, Grian’s iron golem experimentation room, and every Hermit’s addiction to playing the game.
The season ended with a long episode in which Grian wrapped up loose ends and left lovely messages to each individual hermit, including the sorely-missed TFC. We hope he returns again next season, and hope Season 10 is as fun as every season before has been.

A Review/ Comparison of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and Chungking Express (1994)
By Jacob Christopher
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Critiquing the decay of the American Dream and the horrors lurking beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary society. Tobe Hooper and his film Texas Chainsaw Massacre explores themes of madness, family dysfunction, and the brutality of human nature. For this week I decided to choose and view Texas Chainsaw Massacre along with a group of friends for a frightful festivity. Directed by Tobe Hooper, the film is considered a staple of the horror slasher genre, which creates a significant impact on both pop culture and the utilization of horror cinematography. With a reputation for it’s raw intensity and unique poster child of leather face, how could I not want to give the film a watch.

An original Japanese B2 poster of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre
A review and praise for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, emphasized through the appraisal of the film from respected directors such as Eli Roth and Wes Craven, even given the reputation the film has for it's gore and slasher terror. To this day the film garners positive reception for all its product as a pivotal piece of media within the horror genre.
The story follows a group of young friends who encounter a family of cannibals in rural Texas. Where the group becomes the target of Leatherface, a mentally disturbed member of the family of cannibals who wears a mask made of human skin and wields a chainsaw. As the friends are hunted down one by one, they face gruesome and terrifying encounters. This premise taps into primal fears of isolation, rural landscapes, and the unknown, making it deeply unsettling.
In 1974, nearing the end of the Vietnam War, the United States witnessed pivotal political upheavals, notably the resignation of U.S. President Richard Nixon in the wake of the Watergate scandal. Additionally, the sports realm saw significant moments such as The Rumble in the Jungle, a legendary boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
Archived article about Watergate
Giving context to the period of time, in 1974 the indie film movement was a significant period in cinema history. Characterized by a surge in independent filmmaking that challenged the dominance of the major studios. This movement emerged as a response to the increasingly commercialized and formulaic nature of Hollywood filmmaking, with filmmakers seeking greater creative freedom and the ability to explore unconventional subjects and storytelling techniques.
One of the key factors driving the indie film movement in 1974 was the availability of new and more affordable filmmaking technology, such as lightweight cameras and portable sound equipment. This allowed aspiring filmmakers to produce high-quality films on shoestring budgets, circumventing the need for studio backing
The low-budget filmmaking techniques utilized in Texas Chainsaw Massacre played a crucial role in shaping its distinctive direction and ultimately contributed to its enduring influence on the horror genre. With a restrictive budget of $140,000 USD, creative solutions to technical challenges were implemented. Director Tobe Hooper and his team embraced this constraint, opting for a raw and gritty aesthetic that added to the film's overall sense of realism and intensity. Proving the film to be successful in it’s accumulation of a $30,859,000 USD domestic profit, 220 times the budget of the film.

A video showing the outtakes of the film, giving insight to the process of capturing the shots in Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Chungking Express
Chungking Express by the great director Wong Kar-Wai, a film that defies traditional narrative conventions and captures the rhythms of urban life with unparalleled artistry and emotion. Through its kaleidoscopic lens, Chungking Express invites viewers on a transcendent journey of love, longing, and serendipity amidst the chaotic backdrop of the Hong Kong metropolis almost as another character in Wong Kar-Wai’s films.

Chungking Express tells two separate but still interconnected stories of longing and love. In the first story we follow Cop 223, played by Takeshi Kaneshiro, coping with the recent breakup of his relationship. He frequents a local diner where he encounters a mysterious woman in a blonde wig, played by Brigitte Lin, who is involved in a drug smuggling operation. As Cop 223 becomes infatuated with her, he embarks on a series of eccentric rituals to cope with his heartbreak.
Adjacent to the second story, we meet Cop 663, played by Tony Leung, who is also dealing with the aftermath of a failed relationship. He develops a budding romance with Faye, a quirky waitress at the diner, played by Faye Wong. Faye secretly enters Cop 663's apartment, where she begins to rearrange his belongings and leave small tokens of affection, unbeknownst to him.
youtube
Above is a deleted scene between Cop 663 and Faye with commentary from Wong Kar-Wai. Excluding the scene of Cop 663's restlessness in my opinion creates more subtly for the characters angst.
As the two stories unfold, they intersect in subtle ways, with themes of chance encounters, missed connections, and the transient nature of human relationships permeating throughout. "Chungking Express" is a poetic exploration of love, loneliness, and the unpredictable nature of life in urban environments. Incorporating a sense of humor and poeticism often found within the films of Wong Kar-Wai.
youtube
Like the clip implies, this is also my favorite clip from the film. Expressing Cop 223's unacceptance of his past lover's moving.

At the time of the film's release, Hong Kong was still a British colony, but the impending handover to China was looming on the horizon. The uncertainty and anxiety about the future of Hong Kong under Chinese rule permeated the collective consciousness of the city's residents. This sense of transition and flux is subtly reflected in the film's themes of impermanence and change.
youtube
Above is a in depth analysis and review from Tarantino about Chungking Express
Similarities Between the two films
Both films I've went over are incredibly different in tones, genre and style. There is more to contrast about the differences due to the vastly differing thematic content, however despite the juxtaposition, there are still similarities to be analyzed. Such as usage of space and area, seen through the sets of a rural Texas desert and the densely populated environment of Hong, both backdrops acting almost like a character within their own. Along with the unconventional qualities of story telling both films exude. Chungking Express' fragmented story structure and fun twist on narrative style gives the film an edge and hip odd feeling from the technique. In comparison, Texas Chainsaw Massacre also goes about it's narrative differently, creating a gritty, raw and realistic but dirty atmosphere, assisted through it's handheld camera style also found in Chungking Express. Giving the films a unique visual realness from it's creative choice.

THE TALE OF FOOD
SPRING NIMBUS - PART 2
━
MASTER : Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?
MASTER : Ow... Why am I lying face-down on the ground and talking in such a cliché way?
??? : Pfft! I was wondering how a person could have fallen from the sky and landed on me!
An unfamiliar voice can be heard coming from beneath me.
SPRING ROLL : M-Master! Why do you have so many peach blossom branches under you? Get up already! It's not good to damage the plants...
??? : Peach blossom branches? Heh, are you secretly admiring my beauty, kid?
The person underneath me gets up, pats the dust from his body and looks me and Spring Roll up and down.
??? : I hail from Taohua Island and am regarded as Young Tao the nimble swallow! May I know where the two of you are from and where you are going?
The young man before us is dressed like a martial artist in a Chinese opera with extravagant embroidery patterns on his clothing. He is clearly unique. But what's up with the tone as if he's just come out of a martial arts novel...?
MASTER : So you're Young Tao! I've heard stories about you for as long as I can remember. Pleased to meet you! My name is Master and I am regarded as the diligent Master of Kongsang. I am on my way to seek out some friends.
YOUNG TAO : Kongsang?
The youth picks up one of the prints and glances over it in confusion.
YOUNG TAO : Where did you get this poster from? Do you perhaps know the owner of the tea mountain, Layman Longjing?
MASTER : It was a gift from a friend. Judging from your response, you wouldn't happen to know his whereabouts, would you?
YOUNG TAO : Hmph, but of course!
YOUNG TAO : The terrain here is complicated, and he lives high up in the sky! If you're searching on your own, it'll take you months, and you might still fail!
The youth answers calmly, obviously quite knowledgeable about this. The tea mountain stands tall among others and is surrounded by the clouds. Determining the path forward would certainly prove difficult.
MASTER : Hm. How odd...
YOUNG TAO : What's odd? You haven't answered my question yet.
MASTER : Are you truly from Taohua Island? I have heard the martial arts here are superb, and the people are very agile. If that were the case, how was I able to strike you?
YOUNG TAO : ...?!
MASTER : One should only trust what one sees. And it seems the rumors surrounding this amazing martial art do not ring true.
YOUNG TAO : You... fine! Select anywhere on the tea mountain and if I can't take you there, I'll give the title of "Young Tao" to you!
MASTER : Wow, how straightforward! I'll be waiting then!
We silently traverse the numerous treacherous green hills deftly. The higher we climb, the chillier it gets.
Among the wandering clouds, someone had planted a peach blossom forest spanning the entire landscape.
At the peak, there's an old and small pavilion standing deceptively tall amid the fog. It was akin to a single bird perched in a secluded jungle.
SPRING ROLL : Hey, there's a pavilion! So someone really lives this high up in the mountains...
Does my old friend actually live here? I can't help but feel uneasy at the thought of his unique disposition.
He's a strange one who tells me to savor tea and identify its quality. He is only willing to speak to me once I've given him the right answer.
YOUNG TAO : We- we're here! Get down, you rascals! Master, get your hands off my neck!
YOUNG TAO : Cough, cough-
Right after he lets us down, he starts coughing vigorously. For some reason, Young Tao's face seems incredibly translucent under the shine of the midday sun...
SPRING ROLL : Are you alright, Brother Tao? I brought Grandpa Dumpling's calming pill. Take it.
Young Tao takes the pill and stays quiet for a while. But he seems to have something to say.
YOUNG TAO : Buddha's Temptation, Dumpling, Spring Roll... All except for the Master of Kongsang, of whom I've never heard before, are famous dishes.
YOUNG TAO : You're Food Souls, aren't you?
MASTER : Huh? You know about Food Souls? You mean...
I had been so focused on inviting Longjing Shrimp back to Kongsang to meet Buddha's Temptation that I must have overlooked this person. He might have been drifting in the mortal realm alone....
MASTER : Actually, I'm not a Food Soul. I'm the Master temporarily in charge of Kongsang. My father, Yizhi, founded Kongsang with the purpose of providing a comfortable place for Food Souls. If you'd like to join...
YOUNG TAO : No. I'm... I'm not like you!
To my surprise, Young Tao's face falls, and he enters the pavilion without us, looking slightly forlorn.
I exchange a look with Spring Roll. All of a sudden, I hear a strange, dull thud from behind.
Young Tao seems to have triggered some kind of mechanism, and the peach blossom forest seems to shift. A path eventually forms.
YOUNG TAO : Hmph, as I thought. He's still using the defense techniques from Taohua Island. Well, so long as we can find what we're looking for...
He ignores us and heads straight into the forest. Just as I am feeling confused, he bends down and launches himself into the air.
YOUNG TAO : Argh!
Without a second thought, I jump and grab his hand.
MASTER : Quick, grab me! Whoaa, you're so heavy!!!
SPRING ROLL : Be careful, Master!
A slope suddenly appears from behind the third tree, and in my hurry to grab Young Tao, I lose my balance. The three of us fall into the forest maze below...

Story Concept for Wall Art Painting – Bruce Onobrakpeya’s Urban Patterns and Landscapes
Echoes of the Metropolis
In the bustling heart of a mythical city, where past and future coexist in an intricate dance, Bruce Onobrakpeya’s printmaking serves as the inspiration for a vivid wall art painting. This piece weaves together the rhythmic energy of urban life with the quiet whispers of natural landscapes hidden beneath the city’s industrial veneer.
A sprawling metropolis emerges in layers, each one a tapestry of geometric forms, organic textures, and vibrant hues. The foreground features a network of streets and buildings, their sharp angles softened by intricate etchings reminiscent of Onobrakpeya’s signature style. These etchings are alive, filled with symbols of community, heritage, and tradition.
Between the buildings, hidden patterns emerge—triangles morph into mountains, while winding curves transform into rivers. These subtle hints reveal the land’s original topography, a nod to the coexistence of man and nature.
Artistic Features
Urban Patterns:
The cityscape is depicted with vivid, repeating motifs—rows of windows, grids of streets, and dots representing the hum of city lights.
The patterns have a tactile quality, layered with textures resembling hand-carved prints.
Landscapes Within:
Beneath the urban patterns, the faint outlines of a natural landscape emerge.
Fields, hills, and rivers are hidden in plain sight, representing how nature persists amidst urbanization.
Cultural Symbols:
Embedded in the artwork are cultural motifs—indigenous patterns, tribal masks, and symbolic elements like the sun and moon, grounding the piece in Onobrakpeya’s Nigerian heritage.
Colors and Vividness:
Rich earthy tones of ochre, burnt sienna, and deep green contrast with electric blues, yellows, and metallic silvers that echo the vibrancy of city life.
Narrative
The painting tells a story of transformation. It begins with the land untouched, represented by the serene bottom layer of the artwork. As the viewer’s eye moves upward, the patterns of humanity emerge—buildings, roads, and lights symbolizing the rise of the urban sprawl. Amidst the transformation, nature fights to remain visible, represented by trees growing between cracks in the cityscape and rivers snaking through the concrete jungle.
In the center of the painting, a figure stands a storyteller, etched in intricate detail. This figure represents Bruce Onobrakpeya’s legacy, a bridge between the old and the new, the rural and the urban. Surrounding the figure are spirals and waves, suggesting the flow of stories and history.
Emotional Impact
Wonder: The intricate details draw viewers in, making them explore every corner of the painting.
Nostalgia: The hidden natural landscapes evoke memories of a simpler time, contrasting with the urban vibrancy.
Reflection: The artwork inspires contemplation about the relationship between humans, nature, and culture in modern life.
This wall art painting, inspired by Bruce Onobrakpeya’s printmaking, serves as a visual metaphor for the complex harmony between urbanization and the natural world. It is a vivid celebration of patterns, landscapes, and cultural heritage, designed to captivate and provoke thought in any space it inhabits.

Chicago's Wildposting Revolution: Art in the Urban Jungle
In the bustling metropolis of Chicago, where every corner pulses with energy and creativity, a bold movement is taking root—wildposting. This captivating form of street art and guerrilla marketing is not just about plastering posters; it's about weaving a narrative into the very fabric of the city. As you navigate the vibrant neighbourhoods, you'll discover that wildposting has transformed ordinary walls into extraordinary canvases, each telling a story that beckons the curious to engage.
Picture yourself wandering through the eclectic streets of Logan Square, where the air is thick with the aroma of artisanal coffee and the sounds of live music spill from nearby venues. Suddenly, you are drawn to a striking poster flapping in the breeze, its vivid colours and bold typography demanding your gaze. This is wild posting—a spontaneous burst of creativity that invites you to pause and reflect on its message. Whether promoting a local band, an art exhibit, or a community event, each poster is a thread in the intricate tapestry of Chicago's cultural landscape.
What sets wildposting apart is its raw, unfiltered nature. Unlike polished advertisements, these posters often showcase the city's gritty charm, embracing imperfections that resonate with the urban experience. They embody the spirit of rebellion against the conventional, transforming mundane spaces into lively showcases of artistic expression. This is where emerging and established artists find a platform to share their voice, challenging societal norms and sparking conversations that matter.
As you delve deeper into the world of wildposting, you'll notice how it reflects the diverse tapestry of Chicago's communities. From the murals of Pilsen celebrating Latino heritage to the indie art scene thriving in Hyde Park, wildposting serves as a unifying force, bridging gaps between neighbourhoods and cultures. It encourages collaboration among artists, fostering a sense of camaraderie that transcends the boundaries of race, class, and background.
This fleeting quality compels artists to innovate constantly, experimenting with new styles and messages that capture the moment's zeitgeist. As the city evolves, so does the art adorning its streets, reflecting the ever-changing landscape of thoughts, ideas, and emotions.
Social media amplifies this experience, as locals share their favorite finds and connect over the art that resonates with them. This communal engagement fosters a sense of pride and ownership, reminding everyone that they are part of something bigger—a living, breathing art movement that belongs to the city.
So, the next time you find yourself in Chicago, take a moment to look around. The walls are alive with stories waiting to be uncovered. Each Wildpost is an invitation to engage with the city's vibrant culture, connect with fellow residents, and appreciate the artistry that flourishes in unexpected places. In the wild world of Chicago's streets, art is not just seen; it's experienced, celebrated, and cherished.

Whether exploring an African-American woman's sexuality (She's Gotta Have It) or negotiating the intricacies of interracial romance in urban America (Jungle Fever), Spike Lee has always taken the controversial issue and made it a personal statement. Whether successful or not, those statements, or "joints," as Lee calls them, are always deeply grounded in the immediacy of the moviegoing experience. That sense of immediacy is guaranteed by Lee's collaborator and cinematographer, Ernest Dickerson, ASC.
Lee and Dickerson have collaborated again on a "joint" intended to recreate the life of a man who, according to Lee, "rose up from the dregs of society, spent time in jail, reeducated himself and, through spiritual enlightenment, rose to the top." That man was Malcolm X, and the movie attempts to recreate the landscape of the political and the personal upon which his life and death were played out. The photographic approach of the film is reflected in the publicity poster for Malcolm X: a grey capital letter X against a jet black-background creates an image that is stark, bold, simple — and very powerful.

The air was hot in the 33 Mirror Place. Stagnant and still. Katheryn had forgotten to open a window before she left. Gingerly limping in on sore feet, she silently closed the door behind her and exhaled an anxiety-fueled breath from deep in her stomach. The week was finally over. She could relax… so to speak.
Katheryn slipped off her shoes, one by one wrenching them off with her swollen toes. The aches ran up her legs, sending shock waves into her lower back. Whoever said city life was worth it has never walked home from work. Collapsing into the couch with a huff, Katheryn sat for a moment. She leaned back into the soft material of the sofa, letting her spine decompress and her head fall against the top cushion with a wince. She had the same routine every evening: the horrific snap and ache of her neck so loud she winced. Feet throbbing in pain. Sweat forming on her brow long dried into her foundation. Every evening was exactly the same. The same grueling work, followed by complete exhaustion after. Corporate jobs, amirite?
The apartment was a huge space, spanning the second-highest floor in the building. Vast and very well furnished. Plush, vividly colored furniture occupied every room. Soft string lights allowed for the most aesthetic mood. Plants on almost every table, every corner of the floor untouched by a rug or furniture. Intense painted powder rooms with jungle themes. Art on every wall. Aerosmith and Journey posters framed. The dream apartment for a recently heartbroken woman. All aesthetic, but with the added application. Katheryn loved it here, in her own space with her own vibe. It was a sanctuary that she got to come home to every evening. You can’t knock Zuzu City for its high rise view.
The problem was the motivation. The only reason she has any of this was her job. A corporate nightmare. An office full of men, demanding a “conservative” dress code. Demanding a conventional look. Sad beige. Low heel (of course). Pencil skirt. Muted colors. Submission. Not her thing. Getting hired with her electric pink hair was a feat that shocked her to this day. She was far too headstrong to submit, but for this job? It was out of her control. It was just too much money. More money than she’d ever made, and turning that down was impossible. Sitting alone in her slowly cooling apartment, Katheryn heaved another sigh. She needed to let these thoughts go and disappear into something else.
She stood, taking note of the dulling ache in her calves, and padded her way gingerly to the first closed door off the main hall. Opening the door, the smell of turpentine and incense hit her. She breathed deeply, letting her eyes flutter closed and the smells permeate her soul.
The room wasn’t huge, but it was adorned with stacks of hundreds of canvases. A workbench sat directly in the center. It was nearly overflowing with scrunched up tubes of vibrant oil paint. Brushes crowded in cups lining the shelves on the back wall. Hundreds of paper clippings of flowers, silhouetted women, landscapes, city sky lines were pinned on any empty wall space. Her reference studies. Katheryn smiled, taking in the familiar scene, and took a seat behind her workbench. She looked down at her latest work: a rustic daisy field lining an inlet of the ocean. Taking a moment to recall where she had left off, Katheryn picked up a small round brush and began expertly blending the soft foam of the waves crashing to shore.
Despite her exhaustion, Katheryn painted well into the evening. By the time she returned the brush to its place on the workbench, the painting was nearly completed. The colors seemed alive, contrasting perfectly. Vibrant greens, shocking white, mesmerizing blends of blue and teal. She sighed, content with her progress, and pushed off from the bench. The apartment was dark now, and she glanced over at the small clock hanging next to the door: 2 AM. Thankfully, there was no work to be had tomorrow for her. She raised her arms above her head and heard the familiar crack of her shoulders popping. She clicked off the lights in the room, gingerly shut the door, and went into the kitchen.
It was as if she was the only one awake in the world, but she knew better. Katheryn, holding a freshly steeped cup of hot tea, perched herself in the window seat that carved out the perfect nook at the end of her main hall. This was her favorite spot to sit when her mind was clear. She gazed out over the city, seeing the millions of twinkling lights still on and awake in the night. Steam curled up from her cup, illuminated in the moonlight, bathing her face in an eerie silhouette. She reached out and unlatched the window, pushing it open and letting the cool city air waft around her. She inhaled, absorbing the smells of 24-hour burger places, car exhaust, distant pine trees, the salt of the ocean. It was a beautifully complex scent; a scent that most people associated with industry. Katheryn loved the conflicting nature of the scent. A mixture of high rise titans of human ingenuity, laced with the soft sprinkling of true human nature. It reminded her that not everything is as it seems; that the surface very rarely gives away what’s beneath. She sat there for a long time, drinking in the view and crushing cigarettes into the small ashtray on the window sill. Before she knew it, the sun began to peek over the horizon. Katheryn’s lips curled into a slight grin, a delicate laugh escaping from them. ‘Always losing track of time’ she thought and stood from the window seat. This city had a hold on her, in more ways than one, and simply sitting and admiring it could take hours. She placed her mug, long empty, in the sink and slinked off to bed.
