⚠️warning- noisy as hell, turn down your volume for the video ⚠️
Picked up an antique Tri-Ang model set from the UK. How wonderful! She's growly as hell but runs fine. Might get a little quieter when I clean and oil it...
The only big issue is, the Tri-Ang models have huge wheel flanges- sometimes they don't play nice on switches/ turnouts on modern HO/OO track. The only problem child is the dining car, which is the oldest of the models. Might look into replacement wheelsets.
The coaches seem pretty light, too- Might add weight to improve smoothness
Back on the floor again, as the new train table is taken up with a Lionel project. Adds British realism (cough cough Sam's Trains)
timeline of me trying to draw the same thing for several years straight
Figured I'd go through my own old attempts at Joy Ang's style and review them publically; not only would it probably help someone, I get to giggle at how bad my old art used to be! Onwards.
This was attempt no. 1, and it SUCKED. Thin neck, absolutely no chest, overdid AND underdid all of the shading, didn't even get Toad's colors right, FORGOT THE NOSE RING. Beautiful, beautiful stuff.
Attempt no. 2 was significantly better, although the anatomy was deeply fucked and the eyes were massive. There are definite improvements over the other one, but overall the line quality remained poor and the anatomy was horrific.
ATTEMPT NUMBER THREE. This one was so much closer than the other two, but still a swing and a miss overall. The eyes were once again oversized, the shading was patchy and still didn't match Joy Ang's style, and the head was perhaps too angular. There are still a lot more things about this that I like, though, and we can only go up from here, right?
WRONG attempt number four SUCKED. The lines were awful and the face was too short and narrow. I kind of like how I did the bottom jaw, though. Portrays the snout being narrower than the end of the face. Let's try this again.
AUGH oh god those scales why are they so small. And, I see we have reached the opposite problem we had before, with the eyes being TOO small now. Also too far down. <3 Let's take a break from this, for a few months, and then try again.
And, for reference of where we are now, this one. It has its own dedicated post, but I figured it needed to be in the timeline, too.
something something practice makes perfect something something. okay carry on with your day. let me know if you want me to do the same thing with mike holmes' style, there's... actually a lot more attempts for that one
I see this a lot, used in various ways, ranging from being applied to people who express horrific, bigoted opinions to people who have less-popular interpretations of certain characters or plot points. I've also seen it used on people who dislike certain characters heavily (for example, people who call George a "child predator").
However, at what point does someone's opinion fall outside of understanding Umineko, and fall into a misinterpretation of the work? What even qualifies as a misinterpretation - when someone goes against the author's intentions? When someone goes against the general beliefs of the fandom? Then, when people interpret George according to his on-paper age gap with Shannon, rather than the likely-intended, far less horrifying gap, do they not understand Umineko? When people interpreted Sayo as trans, against the backlash and transphobia the fandom was going through after EP7/EP8 released, did they not understand Umineko?
Someone's understanding of a text is not an objective thing that can be measured, but a subjective one. Everyone's understanding of Umineko is different. Ryukishi himself even says "In other words, you can enjoy it even if you don't answer correctly, and I want you to enjoy it." He gives this sort of sentiment multiple times: even if someone hasn't come to the "true answer", if they thought it over and understood it in their own way, that's also fine.
That's why, rather than "you don't understand Umineko" because of a disagreement with someone's opinion, I'd rather approach it differently, and engage with their perspective. If there's something flawed or bigoted in it, I'd rather point that out, rather than focusing on a nebulous concept like "you didn't really understand the text". It's tempting to do so, but there are better and more constructive ways to engage in discussion.
i did it!! this is a redraw of the first ever cats fanart i posted on tumblr!! I'm so proud of my improvement in just over a year :) It is also a redraw of one of my fave platoria images ever <3
Saul really is a fantastic character for tiny!Robin. He brings her out of her shell and we get to see a side of Robin that we won’t really start to see until post-Enies Lobby and post-timeskip. And he does this by simply treating her as she should be— as a child.
Many of the adults in Robin’s life treat her as both an adult and a child. She’s old enough to get her doctorate, but too young to study the poneglyphs. Her aunt treats her terribly, like a live-in-maid and not the 8 year old she is. Saul is the first one to treat her solely like a child, and as a result we get these really sweet interactions between them.
Also, I want to say Saul is maybe the second (?) character we’ve met with the D in his name, and it’s a nice confirmation that the D is not just the Monkey D. family’s name, but part of a wider “family” that is across the world. It’s wonderful, subtle exposition which Oda is fantastic at.
yung notes app ko here sa phone ko puro kalungkutan tots and feels laman kasi tbfh sobrang lungkot ko lately. i know it's important that i go through tough times and not run from them, but damn it, im just so tired of going through it. im so tired. im exhausted. i feel depleted. i just feel so weak and defeated all over.
gaz runs classes, has a youtube channel and quickly becomes one of the most sought after choreographers in the music video scene. soap is his dance partner for his classes, he helps run them and does demonstrations with him
ghost is also a choreographer and he’s gaz’s Arch Nemesis
he's famous for never performing his routines, never doing public appearances without his skull mask and being highly exclusive with who he allows to perform his choreo which earns him his name (since he’s a ghost creator). gaz however is a social media darling, his classes and videos regularly doing huge numbers
they both popped up around the same time and are neck and neck in terms of popularity and skill and they immediately rub each other the wrong way
gaz accuses ghost of not actually choreographing his routines himself bc no one has ever seen him dance and ghost thinks gaz is a clout chaser who's just in it for the fame instead of passion
he became a dancer as a way to channel his rage after years of being an underground fighter, the discipline and physicality helping him more than fights ever did. he hates the thought of someone just using it just to get famous when it literally saved his life
deep down they know their accusations are wrong and they have a grudging appreciation for the other's talent but they'd both rather die than admit it
price is a famous dancer turned director they both work with frequently and they always fight over him; trying to get their routines picked for his music videos. he's also the only one in the industry who's ever seen the ghost perform (before he got famous and before the Incident™)
he finally gets fed up with them constantly being at each other's throats and hires them both to work together and choreograph a joint routine. they're both famous in their own right but this video is for a huge artist so neither of them can refuse no matter how much they hate the other
gaz has a gymnastics background but also a ballet background which lends him to a more fluid style whereas ghost’s style is stronger, more masculine with sharper movements so they naturally end up butting heads
then there's soap who has a completely different style altogether, focusing on a more modern, breakdancer style which makes him see everything completely differently
but it also adds to his self-doubt bc he didn't have a formal dance education, he built his entire repertoire by himself. people see him as inferior to gaz who has that very formal, highly disciplined style. his insecurities about only ever being seen as gaz's demonstration partner and that he can only do gaz’s routines so all his skill is just an extension of him instead of being seen as a dancer in his own right forces him to adopt a rigid - destructive - perfectionism in himself and his body
soap meets ghost before the first rehearsal. he gets to the studio early to practice when sees this beautiful man dancing
he has no idea who he is but he moves so seamlessly, almost better than gaz, and he immediately falls a little in love. the man catches him watching in the mirror and he flusters, getting worse as the man just smirks at him and flawlessly completes the routine
soap tries to save face and asks him to teach him the routine he's doing
the man agrees, introducing himself as simon. the style of the routine is familiar to soap but he can't focus on it when simon's hands are on his waist, guiding him through the steps; his chest pressed up against his back. they work together beautifully, picking up each other's body language and dancing together easier and better than they've ever danced with anyone
then gaz arrives and the vibe in the studio immediately changes
simon's easy confidence becomes hostility, pulling up the skull gaiter he'd let hang around his neck as he practically pushes soap behind him to square up to gaz
soap’s shocked when gaz hits back with the same energy until he realises it's the same way he acts whenever he talks about ghost and his stomach drops
he steps out from behind ghost to side with gaz and the betrayal in simon's eyes hurts more than anything he's ever felt
from there it's romeo and juliet; camp gaz versus camp ghost as they fight over every step of the choreo and soap is the poor bastard stuck in the middle
soap tries to channel that “you’re my best friend’s rival, i have to hate you,” mindset but he can’t forget the way it felt to dance with simon
has anyone done a frankenstein au with sephiroth as frankenstein’s monster and cloud being someone to take him in and teach him the world and genuinely sympathize due to being ostracized from society for some reason or another? because it would slap and if someone else doesn’t do it then one day i fucking will
