As a Texan, I feel strangely horny for oaks because they grow so proud and beautifully in the sun. Dare i say gluttonous. Texas oaks are particularly full, inviting, and comforting. They have fed people for thousands of years. The shade of an oak is not preferred but necessary for a climate as variable and unforgiving as Texas. Temporary respite from a cruel world. It’s shade is soft.

Live oaks in particular… there is something about them

no you are SO. RIGHT. growing up, a lot of my friends had land (rural things). one of them had this old oak grove on her property—we’d go down there and climb trees for fun.

it was like an entirely different world once you entered the canopy—they were “angel” oaks, with these huge limbs reaching down and touching the ground. super easy to climb, but it also felt so… isolated. the leaves almost muffled the sound from outside, you couldn’t even feel the wind (which blew hard, people living in plains know what i mean). we’d spend hours there and i miss it every day.

one day i’ll write a (horror?) novel about this, lol…

Emergency Roof Repair and Storm Cleanup Commissions

As mentioned in previous posts and pinned @anotherdayforchaosfay , we have just been through a natural disaster. Please read the pinned post on that blog. Updates will be added once we get outside and photograph the damage for our insurance claim.

I have opened commissions three months earlier than planned because we need to raise money to cover our insurance deductible as well as hiring someone to remove the tree from our roof and yard. The tree is owned by a lazy landlordlord who owns the property next door. We have told him repeatedly it needs to be trimmed or there will be damage. His property got a quick install sunroof.

I have four slots available across the board and prices start at $150 USD.

I have made the option of commissioning me for a quilt available. Three finished quilt tops are listed as commissions because they're ready for handquilting. Several people have inquired about one of the tops, so now's your chance to have it done sooner than later.

If you can do only a partial payment right now, DM me. I'll write up a contract for payments, and will require 50% upfront and weekly/monthly installs after that. You will then receive an invoice.

Commissions will begin immediately because we now have power.

I will close commissions when all slots are filled or June 1st, 2024. Whichever happens first (hopefully the former). If slots are filled, I will reopen them again after I finish all the commissions. I work fast and may complete six quilts netween now and then.

Donations are accepted,and there are four listings available in my shop with the option to pay more than my asking price (if you add an extra zero, I may very well cry).

You might think that this close to Christmas, I would have covered every possible permutation of Barbie Christmas item. I assure you, I have not.

In the early 2000s, there was a "Pink and Sparkly Holiday Tree" released under the Barbie brand.

It's kind of difficult to find good photos of, but it did feature not just the tree itself but some baubles to go with it.

I briefly thought that this may have been the only official Barbie-branded Christmas tree (though there are many, many varieties of pink and white tree that are being described as Barbie-themed online even though they weren't officially so). Turns out I was mistaken - from around the same era, we have the Barbie as Rapunzel Christmas tree.

At least, I assume it was from the same era: it uses the same "Pink & Sparkly Holiday Tree" branding, and the box looks very similar, but I can't find a definitive source for a release year. One Ebay listing suggests it was 2002, or a year after the aforementioned Barbie Christmas Tree, but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

Whether you can get a Barbie Christmas tree or not, Tree Trimming Barbie can help you decorate.

Tree Trimming Barbie only comes with a punchout cardboard tree, not an actual prop tree, which is a bit of a missed opportunity, but I think her Christmas sweater is pretty cute.

Barbie and Kelly Pink Holiday has a Christmas tree, but it's vibrant pink from top to bottom and doesn't even have needles.

I mean, it is still pretty cute, but it's not quite what I was looking for.

And a Kelly Club release showed us Chelsie (not to be confused with Chelsea, which is what Kelly renamed herself) as a Christmas Tree.
