Rompere un'amicizia è sempre una cosa spiacevole, a volte anche molto spiacevole, ma qualche volta può addirittura sfociare in un vero e proprio dramma, specie se si vive su una sperduta isola di un arcipelago irlandese. Ci troviamo nel 1923 (non è fatto da poco che nemmeno esistessero né i social, né il web ad alleviare la pesantezza del vivere) e, come si è già detto, sulla remota isola irlandese (immaginaria) di Inisherin, accade che Colm (intepretato da Brendan Glee) decida all'improvviso di interrompere la frequentazione di Pàdriac (Colin Farrell) il suo più caro amico, senza nessun plausibile motivo, almeno all'apparenza, mentre Pàdriac non sopporta il rapporto danneggiato e il mutismo dell'ormai ex amico. La vita sull'isola continua prevedibilmente a scorrere monotona, tra il pub sulla scogliera, la chiesa e il porto dalle acque grige e tempestose di quelle latitudini. Ma Pàdriac non si rassegna e, come il più molesto degli stalker, non molla la presa di Colm che, uomo burbero e scontroso, decide di tagliarsi un dito di una mano ogni qual volta Pàdriac gli rivolgerà la parola. Detto fatto, il (povero) Colm si ritrova senza tutte le dita della mano destra. Colm è un violinista-compositore e il suo gesto appare ancora più masochistico, ma darà anche luogo successivamente alla rappresaglia contro Pàdriac, con l'uccisione della asinella di quest'ultimo. Pàdriac, a sua volta, brucerà la casa di Colm che tuttavia casualmente resterà incolume. Naturalmente il focus di tutto il film è centrato sulle motivazioni che spingono Colm, parrebbe insensatamente, a rompere l'amicizia con Pàdriac. Perché Colm si chiude in una sorta di autismo nei confronti dell'amico? In realtà è lo stesso Colm a spiegarlo anche piuttosto esplicitamente: l'amicizia di Pàdriac, ormai, non è più in grado di offrirgli nulla e quindi preferisce di gran lunga la composizione musicale e il violino alla compagnia di Pàdriac, uomo gentile, ma di quella gentilezza un po' asfittica ed appiccicosa di cui si può benissimo fare a meno, anche se con una certa dose di cinismo. Quanto c'è in noi di Pàdriac e quanto c'è di Colm? Al di là delle piccole storie dell’isola irlandese e delle sue inquietanti presenze, è proprio questa domanda che rende interessante la pellicola di un regista disincantato e crudo come Martin McDonagh (suo era il magnifico "Tre manifesti a Ebbing Missouri"). Ognuno potrà rispondere secondo una propria tavola di valori : Pàdriac reclama di essere un uomo gentile, Colm risponde che la gentilezza non trapasserà nei ricordi dei posteri, mentre certamente arriverà la musica, nella fattispecie quella da lui composta. E allora la domanda investe noi tutti: vale la pena dedicare il proprio tempo coltivando una affettuosa, ma asfittica, amicizia o meglio spenderlo coltivando i propri interessi anche a scapito dei rapporti interpersonali?

Trama:

Ambientato su una remota isola irlandese, il film racconta la storia di due amici di lunga data, Pádraic (Colin Farrell) e Colm (Brendan Gleeson), la cui amicizia si interrompe bruscamente quando Colm decide di non voler più avere nulla a che fare con Pádraic. Questa decisione inaspettata sconvolge profondamente Pádraic che, con l'aiuto della sorella Siobhán (Kerry Condon), cerca in tutti i modi di riconquistare l'affetto dell'amico.

Uno dei film più intensi degli ultimi anni è senza dubbio "Tre Manifesti a Ebbing, Missouri", di Martin McDonagh, un regista che ho già apprezzato molto in "In Bruges" e "7 Psicopatici". Al contrario di questi ultimi due, però, la sua ultima opera non ha personaggi così sopra le righe.Il film parla della voglia di giustizia di una madre, caparbia, dura, decisa, che affittando tre grossi cartelloni pubblicitari lungo una strada, tra l'altro neanche tanto frequentata, scrive un messaggio in cui chiede, appunto, verità sul brutale omicidio di sua figlia, accusando la polizia locale, e soprattutto il capo, di non fare abbastanza per trovare il colpevole.
