       he knows when it goes off. it’s not like he’d been paying that much attention to it--- he knew, of course, that it would go off today, that he’d meet that person today--- so he hadn’t known exactly what time it would go off, but he knew as soon as he walked into the choir room that the little timer on his wrist hit 00:00:00. whoever it is, whoever is supposed to be the person he’ll settle down with, grow old with, is in this room. there’s a frantic beating in his chest as his heart goes wild, and his green eyes slowly scan the length of the room. that gives him, what? 12 people to sus out? unless the other person also felt that little twinge of feeling in their wrist and felt so inclined to let him know about it. there’s also, of course, the insecurity inside him that makes him concerned they won’t let him know. then what?

       he sits beside rachel because that’s where an empty seat is, and he offers her a slow, crooked smile. he’s not as confident as he was when he’d first walked in, but it comes off charming enough.

        “congrats, you know, on getting the lead,” finn says, and although he sounds genuinely happy to say so, there’s almost a bit of hesitation in his voice. it’s not hard to tell why it’s there--- you can practically feel rachel seething across the choir room. “looks like we’re gonna be working together a lot.”
