sorry if this is a weird question but what was the deal with castiel's vessel having a weird sigil on it in the trapdoor. it's recognized by asmodeus but i couldn't find if any character had expanded on it or not. if this is a future thing my bad, i am just curious if i missed something.

in apocalypse world, in 13x11*, Cas jumps out of his vessel and possesses Dean to protect him from Apocalypse!Michael. While Cas & Dean run off body-sharing, Apocalypse!Michael keeps Cas's meatsuit. He takes it to his lab to do experiments on it. The sigil is one of those experiments.

The sigil appears again in 11x17*, when it's used by Asmodeus to fuck with a different former angel vessel. I think the implication is that this sigil somehow accesses the "power"/energy source that makes certain humans functional angel vessels. What that power/energy is, we do not know.

the main purpose of the sigil is to be a physical trace of what happened to Cas in that missing time. something bad happened to both him & Dean in that time. Dean both tries to ignore and tries to untangle what happened. Cas is much more determined to ignore the whole thing and pretend nothing went wrong. So, he acts like the sigil scar is no big deal; Jack tries to heal it, and Cas lies and tells him it's all good (their relationship in a nutshell). But the wound is serious, and it almost kills him. It is meant to concretely represent Cas's tendency to ignore serious problems until they go away, while instead they fester and get infected. (See: Jack situation, strained relationship with Dean, fight with Dean, etc.)
