Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.
#Consumer has been the worst word to describe people in years because consumption has a sense of finality#Like I get it its for corporate reasons but self identification as a consumer should only be left for when you report to the BBB#Be a patron or enthusiast or a fan or connesuier or lover or appreciator or customer literally anything#Something to indicate your purpose in the transactional nature of the process goes beyond mindless cattle behavior

and then you have liu xiao, who dislikes... cilantro. and fish mint.

#mine musings#liveblogging link click#link click#okay the metaphor thing works out a little bit in that. it's on brand#70% of what we know about liu xiao are implicitly gained from other characters#e.g. how xf and ltc relate to him. how the liu family talk about him. how he thematically juxtaposes other characters like lg and cxs#the 30% are the things we know explicitly from him e.g. he's a rich kid with a sports car. he can hear heartbeats#he wants to merge the parallel lines or whatever#the rest are inferences like. oh okay no parallel lines? he doesn't like uncertainties i guess#the way he talks about friendship with xf and ltc? he values a transactional view of relationships#(maybe because transactions imply a certain level of certainty?)#he's the current favored child of the liu family but he wasn't before#he's a “manipulator” but really that's mostly from marketing stuff and implications from canon#like. we know a lot about him but at the same time we don't#the way we just know his uncertainty -> certainty thing contrasts with lg's certainty -> uncertainty thing#we know his heartbeat hearing implies he knows everyone's level of sincerity and both xf and cxs exist as foils to that#the hunter thing with ltc. why does he believe that?#lots of “bringing the darkness” lines in three of his songs for some reason#so like. i can't say that the show hasn't told us anything. they have but in circular ways#we don't know much about him from him directly but we do. know stuff. kinda. do you get me#all i want from YE6 is veinxiao friendship being shown so i can have new dimensions on how lx views friendship#and maybe like. a hint at what his motivations are. like why is he Like That#<- again funnier if he's just Like That from the womb. even if the liu family isn't fucked up he's still Like That#but that's not this show's style so probably not#lx notes#like the INSISTENCE of writing lx as a point of comparison or through other people's perspectives and very rarely from his own#is fascinating to me

Do y’all ever think about how Vegeta’s only ever mad at Freeza for what happened to his planet and he’s never mad at Freeza for what happened to him because I think about that a lot
#Like I think the anime portrays their relationship as much more abusive but Toriyama seemed to be consistent in the implication that#Freeza treated Vegeta VERY well — even Vegeta talks about his time on the frontline being voluntary and the only time he talks about being#“Worked like a slave” is to describe how Zarbon treated him. In the manga Vegeta implies Freeza usually refers to him with fond greetings#‘my dear’s and the like. Freeza was so quick to offer him a promotion in ResF and coo about Geets’ loyalty — which I think about a lot#as well — especially in terms of how totally fine Vegeta used to be with killing other saiyans but that’s another essay#Point is. I’m a huge fan of gilded cage theory. Not quite Mother Gothel levels like they’re a corporate military but I do always describe#Geets as Freeza’s favorite wardog and I think a big part of the culture shock for Vegeta having healthy relationships with people is#The idea that relationships do not have to be transactional with value based on performance — because if Freeza was always fond of Geets#In the way that King Cold is fond of Freeza (which seems true based on Freeza offering Goku Vegeta’s job right after he dies iirc) then it#For all the fucked up things that it is — was the most supportive relationship Vegeta had up until Bulma (or Gohan). At least from someone#who wasn’t dependent on him like Raditz and Nappa were — which loops back into transactional dynamics even if/though they were sincere.#What I’m saying is#The learning curve was so steep for this man and he still (hesitantly) took the offer to borrow some climbing gear and get to work#And I love him your honor what a great character#dbtag#headcanons

people who are so enthusiastic about the things i make and the fandoms i rep at my booth are THE #1 coolest part of the experience 🥺 i feel like convention artist alleys these days are mostly filled with the same 4 popular anime/mobile games and it's really hard to find less popular anime, let alone things like video games and webseries. you would not believe how many comments I got that people never see things like Team Fortress 2 or Portal in AAs, let alone stuff like Infinity Train or HLVRAI ���� the people who recognize them are always SO excited and then I'M excited and we are BOTH excited and nerding out together. it's fantastic!!!
the hlvrai fandom is definitely still going strong! i still see a lot of fanart and community posts and my sales on my few hlvrai things on my etsy have Not slowed down lmao. i'm sure if covid didn't happen there would have been so many benry cosplayers in 2020. we were ROBBED </3 i've seen You and one benry cosplayer at ACEN last year and that was IT </3 </3 </3

my favourite writing device is having an un-Rei-liable narrator
#rei#volo#cheren#// tikposting#// character meta#the crowd booes me off the stage#forgive the pun XDDD his name is too easy to pun on#the way i write it it's not a conscious choice. it's just how the pov character (rei) experiences and contextualises the world#revealing backstory and personality and mindset through narration !!!!#not necessarily out of malice it's just. how he views things#interpreting new and foreign experiences through the lens of what came before...#conversations which read differently to different people.#in the context of rei that's stuff like unease around authority figures#always choosing his words carefully to project an image of competence (he has to be needed)#distrust and not taking things at face value but also paradoxically a fragile and nurtured sense of almost blind optimism#when it comes to friendships. like volo. Chris’ Long Journey is one of the best episodes of Sonic X
I know Chris Thorndyke gets a bad rap and that’s likely because of the 4kids localization, but he’s just a lonely kid, and also 12 years old and doesn’t think rationally all the time
The entire show up to that point is built around Chris as the core character, and we see that despite that he grows up very privileged, he’s also deprived of the presence of his parents something that is shown to affect him time and time again. and while he understands why, he forces himself to be ok with it.
And it isn’t until he unpacks those emotions that he’s able to let Sonic go
#Sonic X#chris thorndyke#he is what people think shinichis parents did#and like his parents clearly love him! but they are so focused on their work they lose sigt of the fact that they are never around often#and they clearly have a conflict about it but#the onus is put on Chris to be Ok with it#it’s almost transactional in a way and it’s something I relate to with my parents sometimes#he’s just a kid!!! he’s gonna lash out especially when this one guy comes along and changes his life

Because I have received several back to back unrelated donation pleas in my inbox, I need to be clear: I treat all direct unsolicited asks about giving people money as spam. Even if the account says someone vouches for them. They will not get posted and I do not have the money to give you, anyway. It is pointless to send me an ask of this nature, because if it's a lie it will quietly disappear, and if you are in real trouble I may assume it's a lie because your ask came from literally nowhere because we do not know each other.
I'm sure several of, if not all of, the accounts doing this may be non-humans (especially considering the factors it would take for a human to come across my blog). Those accounts will probably not listen. But if you're a real person, with a real problem, and you do not know me (i.e. I don't follow you, we're not mutuals, etc.) then do not ask me in my ask box for money or to post your ask to spread the word, because I will assume you are a spam bot, and it could result in something happening to your account.

I feel like some people might want to crucify me for this but I've found mainline animal crossing games extremely boring and tedious to play personally (esp new horizons) but pocket camp is so much more fun to me cuz its mostly about the thing I find most fun about AC games (decorating) (and the themed items are plentiful and well-designed imo) and also there's the monthly gacha element which keeps me coming back LOL
#Also now that its a one-time purchase games there isnt anymore micro transactions and its a LOT more forgiving#with obtaining in-game currency than it used to be#But I understand why people dislike/d it for that reason lol
