Thinking about a ftm person in the maze runner not remembering he's ftm

So this takes place a little before the events of tmr, like he was the greenie before chuck and Thomas

it certainly was a shock when they got the months supplies and the new greenie. It was weird

there was a girl in the box. At least, back then he looked like a girl. And everyone was very confused

why were they getting a girl now? After years of getting just boys? It was definitely weird

But regardless, they pulled her up from the box and gave her the tour, telling her everything she needed to know

She was a little freaked out to say the least. She couldn't remember anything and woke up in a box. Freaky. She didnt even know her own name. The guy who was showing her around, she thinks his name was Newt or somthing, said that sooner or later she would remember her name, but that would be it.

And she did remember...sorta. She remembered A name to be specific.. but it didnt feel like it was hers. It just didnt feel right... so she just kept saying she couldnt remember. Everyone kept telling her it was fine, shell remember soon.

It was about a month now, and she was settled. She had her job, a med Jack, a routine, and aside from being the only girl at the time, she was treated normally for the most part.

But now a bunch of the weird feelings she had been feeling intensified. She hated being a girl. She hated bleeding monthly, hated her breasts, but most of all, she hated being called a girl

It was normal for her to be called girl and she, but she hated it and didnt know why... why those little pronouns bothered her so much... untill one day, she did somthing.

Her hair, at the time, had been getting in her face, and it was driving her crazy. So, on a partially slow day, she took a pair of scissors and cut her hair. And she went shorter. And shorter. And shorter untill she had a cut that would cause the boys to mistake her for a guy from behind. She then looked in the mirror (idk if the med jack hut had mirrors but just go with it please 💀)

And when she looked at her reflection, she was in awe. She looked so, so,.. boylike. And god, she loved it. And then she tried somthing else.

She took some bandages of a shelf and binded her breasts to her chest, then put her shirt back on. And wow.... she loved it

It was then, she realized, she didnt want to be her. she wanted to be him. The boy in the mirror, and that's what He decided he was. And now, he finally knew his name.

Yeah so sorry if its rushed, I'm tired and just needed to get this out of my head 😭

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?

(godsong WIP page with links) (for context, anna is god's specialest girl ever and the main character, and she's a transfemme nonbinary lesbian. errans is a minor side character with terrible sideburns and transmasc unswag)

anna grew up in a city where priests have a special gender and pronoun, and she was designated a priest at age 11 by the gods, so her transness started as sort of an occupational thing; she was like, "okay, i'm priestgender," and then progressed to, "wait, i like this gender stuff." you are allowed to be priestgender and also another thing, and getting to explore her presentation at the temple lead to the realization that her Other Thing was womanhood (nonbinary-flavored). more a sister than a woman etc <3

as for the lesbianism, i don't think that was ever a discovery for him; there's no homophobia in ivander and his parents are in a bisexual polycule, so i think he just always knew his future person would be a woman. (i say "person" because ivander doesn't have legal marriage, but there is a religious equivalent if you want to dedicate yourself to someone long-term; otherwise you can just do Whatever. city that is absolutely bursting with gender and fruitiness)

errans i'm less sure about dskhfkdsfkdsnfsd. i know he came out as trans when he was around sixteenish; i think he knew he was bisexual first, and the image coming to me is errans experiencing the "do-i-want-to-date-that-guy-or-be-that-guy" about someone he probably never actually spoke to. i don't get a vibe like he ever loathed being a woman, more so that eventually he just realized he could simply be a man. for free. and was like. "well this is clearly so much more what i'm supposed to be doing"

now i'm thinking about awkward teenage errans and his awkward genvy crushes. god bless him

20. Have your ocs helped you in self discovery? How?

sigh. well i have to tell the story don't i. POV: you are [max], age 12, working on the first iteration of the story that will become TMR (my on-hiatus YA transgender evil-faerie high fantasy). you give the character who will become moon marigold all of your uncomfortable feelings about your body, feelings that are certainly not physical dysphoria because you are cisgender. about a year or so later, you realize that this WIP is full of cishet white people (i have since remedied this), and you should really add some diversity. hey, moon's got weird body feelings! what if you made her genderfluid? that sounds great! you are not thinking at all about where those weird body feelings may have come from or how this may reflect on anything at all.

POV: you are [max], still age 13ish, and you've got a new WIP (it's my also-on-hiatus NA monsters-in-NYC thing). you are going to put a binary transgender person in it. not for any specific reason. you just wanted to. who can say why. certainly not you. anyway you've never done this before and you are a little nervous because how can you, as a cisgender person, accurately represent a trans character? you muse about how to write dysphoria as you dress up for an orchestra concert, in an outfit that is extremely feminine. halfway through, you get derailed by crying real tears about said feminine outfit, because now the boy who sits beside you in the orchestra will know that you are a girl (because your long hair and name clearly couldn't have tipped him off beforehand). could you draw on this experience to describe dysphoria, you wonder? or maybe that other time you cried in the shower? but that's bad and wrong, isn't it? because you're cisgender. so comparing your own... whatever this is... to dysphoria would be an APPROPRIATION of dysphoria! how villainously cis of you! how horrible! you'll have to figure out some other way to write this character.

...anyway. thank you to moon and augustus for that. my kings my brothers in arms. and they BOTH do arson in their respective WIPs, so maybe i have another plot twist in my future?

21. Free ramble card wee

FREE RAMBLE WEE... hmm, well, since i've already touched on it a little in this ask, one of the most interesting things about worldbuilding for godsong is that most of the major settings don't have homophobia/transphobia/misogyny the same way that our world does. (i say most because ambergris is stuck in misogynyville. it's probably fine and i bet she won't get violent.) i honestly didn't think super hard about this; i just wanted to write a high fantasy world where women and nonbinary people and bisexuals and lesbians can hold positions of (sometimes corrupt) power, or where the chosen one can be a transfemme lesbian whose issues aren't transphobia but how to complete her quest.

except then i realized that not having homophobia/transphobia/misogyny invites so many other questions about the social fabric of a society. i mean, the modern legal concept of marriage is rooted pretty solidly in heterosexual relationships wherein women move from one family to another, right? so if gender relations are entirely different, do these places even have marriage? do these places even have gender? this is something i'm still figuring out (and honestly, if anyone has suggestions for media that pokes at this kind of thing, i'd love to hear them!). the two main cities in godsong are ivander (a theocracy) and farria (a democracy with a new revolution every tuesday), and i've been playing around in my head with some of the differences--for example, in ivander, being trans is generally considered holy, because the city's patron god is many-gendered; in farria, being trans is something nobody thinks twice about, because everyone is focused on Just Getting By. in ivander, there are at least three defined genders (man, woman, and priest) which can all overlap. in farria, gender doesn't define social relations so much as a parallel hierarchy of military and/or governmental power--eg, farria's very own neopronouns marc antony isn't afraid of "emasculation" in the gender sense, because xir gender is "if you like me you're gay," but xe's terrified of emasculation (for lack of a better word) in the sense of being seen as weak/submissive. in farria these things are way less connected than they are in our world. i'm still working out a lot of the details, but it's been a lot of fun to think about :3

So, y'all seemed to like my last TMR OC/idea prompt list thing, so I thought I'd do another one.

But actually focus on OC ideas this time.

Okay, so here are some cool OC ideas because there's actually a lot you can do with this universe, but everyone does the same shit.

And I am here to provide:

A transfer character. Can be used for either the books or the movies, but an OC that starts off in one Maze and then gets moved to another with no warning could be an interesting concept. WICKED has made giant simulation Mazes, monsters, flesh eating floating metal balls and teleportation windows- I don't think it's that far-fetched that they could scoop a kid from one Maze and throw them in another.

So, Thomas and Teresa obviously built the Maze, so prodigy characters are a staple of the series. I think an OC that has a lot of knowledge about anatomy and biology, who could work as a Med-jack or a Slicer, who actually designed and made the Grievers, and obviously doesn't remember it, could be a interesting concept.

More male OCs pls. I love seeing these ladies, don't get me wrong because it makes things more interesting. But I think fanfiction can just be for fun and I love seeing some casual normal guy OCs kicking it around the Glade. (Saying this as someone who has male and female characters for this universe.)

I'd also love to see a trans character.

An OC that snuck into the Maze could also be fun. I feel like I need to explain this one more. Picture this: your character is like Teresa and Thomas and has enough of watching their friends be tortured and killed, so they set themself up to go into the Maze early. So they rock up early, like in the middle of two Greenie days and it freaks everyone out. (This could also be an easy way to make it make more sense for fem! OCs to end up in the Glade.)

OC with a cyborg limp of some kind. WICKED could make it happen, don't tell me they wouldn't.

Also, lemme give some names 'cause there was a phase a while back where OCs had the most random names and people completely ignored the fact that all the characters in the Mazes are named after famous people.

(I have used some of these names for my own characters, but I will not be revealing the name of my main OC because she is too precious to me and I am protective over her name. I may one day post about her if people are interested.)

Mea/Marie - Marie Salomea Curie: A pioneer of radioactivity.

I would love to do this one, and it is certainly my thing seeing as I am nonbinary! I tried to make this as inclusive of all trans people as possible because you didn't specify trans woman/man/nonbinary.

Makes a point to refer to you by your preferred pronouns/name at every opportunity but somehow manages to make it sound natural/not forced or patronizing.

(Side note, this man will wreck anyone who purposefully deadnames/mispronouns you.)

Aris

Gets you your favorite foods and offers to read you allowed your favorite book

Anything to get your mind off it

Ben

Listens to you vent about it, visibly interested and asking questions so he can better understand and help you feel more comfortable

Brenda

Helping you with styling hair and doing your makeup.

If you're trans masc the two of you raid Jorge's closet and try on his clothes (she turns around every time you change, even if you don't ask her to, just to make you more comfortable) and if you're trans fem she the two of you raid her closet instead.

Clint

Tries to be super subtle about it, casually giving you gender-affirming compliments.

“You’re looking exceptionally beautiful/handsome/preferred today”

“That shirt looks very feminine/masculine/preferred on you”

Frypan

Notices immediately but doesn’t comment on it unless you mention it first. Reassures you that you’re passing whenever you start to get doubts.

Offers to do all of your favorite things with you to get your mind off it.

Gally

Gives you some of his clothes to wear so they’re extra baggy/less form-fitting.

Basically babies you and makes sure you’re comfortable and don’t need to lift a finger to do anything all day.

Harriet

Incredibly sympathetic, giving you back rubs and trying to offer up comforting words like:

“I’m sorry this is happening, angel.” “That sounds awful.”

Jeff

Suggests distractions like playing card games or organizing the stocks in the med shack with him.

Doesn’t go very far from you all day.

Minho

Literally threatens anyone who misgenders you or deadnames you, whether they said it on purpose or on accident.

Hours of nonstop talking with you to keep your mind off of it.

Newt

Newt has a whole system. He gets Frypan to make your favorites, spends all day doing your favorite relaxing activities, and is incredibly respectful and understanding if you don’t want to be held/touched during this time.

Teresa

Listens all the way through you telling you how you’re feeling before asking if she can hug you. If you say yes, she holds you gently and kisses the top of your head before telling you your feelings are valid and that she loves you.

Suggests just going back to bed and spending the day together lounging in bed, relaxing.

Thomas

Never tries and tells you you’re wrong about your feelings, instead saying things that reassure you like if you’re transmasc but feel like you’re not looking masculine today he’ll say, “well, you’ll always be one of the boys to me” or if you guys are together “you’re still my boyfriend, no matter what you look like.”

Sonya

Readily avoids gender-specific compliments, instead saying things like “You’re such good company” and “you’re so smart”, basically spends all day praising you for every little thing and making you feel good about yourself.

Winston

Asks a bunch of questions about being trans, and about your gender dysphoria so he can better understand how you’re feeling and how being trans affects you then brainstorms the best ways to make you as comfortable while you’re feeling dysphoric, from sharing his clothes (or getting Teresa to share her clothes) or his blankets, to getting you out of your day’s work so you don’t have to be around all the others while feeling dysphoric.

im really glad to have stumbled upon your writing bc i felt really bad as a trans guy for indulging in TMR fanfic bc ya know,,, but its really comforting to see someone so prominent in the fanfic community be so out and vocal about supporting trans rights ❤️

Ah yeah, I've been there myself, definitely a hard part of engaging with HP at all these days. But it's really important to me that people know where I stand on the topic, and I think being vocal about it becomes really important when you start having a group of people who follow ur stuff.
