Viv's beautiful blessing in Tefilat Trans formed the initial inspiration & core of this amulet, which will be printed on 2.5" square cards that can easily fit in your wallet, inside a phone case, or whatever you're carrying (i probably can't be the first person to think of making amulets using a print company's business card template, but i bet it's not their usual fare).
planning to have them with me at the upcoming Hanukkah market on a sliding scale / by donation (down to $0!). if you're trans/GNC & Jewish, you're also welcome to just print one for your own personal use! i may eventually make a higher-res download available on my itch.io for that purpose.
these were also visually inspired by historical Jewish written amulets in the Gaster & Gross Family collections, which i highly recommend browsing if you love antique Judaica as much as i do!

Night 8! Featuring my Chanukah nails. (vid has no sound)
It's about time to re-do my nails but I missed shul last shabbat so I'm thinking of stretching these to Sunday to show them off.
Chanukah feels very significant to me as a queer jew. The idea of being proud of who you are in the face of those who seek to extinguish your light is a common thread. I pray we all can weather the coming year and stay proud and bright through it all.
Chag Sameach!

Shana Tova! Here are picks of my Rosh Hashana outfit and matching nails.
Tumblr media
Vid of my nails has no sound.
Shirt and skirt with pockets from @nerdykeppie.
Also, huge shoutout to Kinetic Color Foundry for these fidget rings that are saving me these High Holy Days. These are made by one neurodivergent person with a 3D printer who could use a lot more love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ordered this Star of David design years ago through the custom form if anyone is interested (she also has an etsy but it's better to order through her site if you can):
Close-up pics of nails and more details under cut.
I normally buy a new dress for Rosh Hashana but wasn't able to this year. Day-of I realized that I hadn't worn this outfit yet so I was able to say Shecheheyanu over some amazing clothes designed by a queer Jew.
This outfit also helped inspire these fun Trans Octopus Rosh Hashana nails. I only had one octopus design which I repeated, and I used a koi fish to emulate the eel and create some texture. Super happy with how they turned out. I may do it again in the future if I get a stamping plate with more sea animal designs.

Here they are on a backdrop of the NK skirt.

And here they are on my little design board. I like taking pics on here because it's easy to arrange in a way that the words are readable. :)
Tumblr media
Base polish is One Coat Black from Holo Taco. Octopus design and stamping polishes from Maniology, koi fish from random Amazon set, Hebrew stamping plate was from Etsy and was the only one so no link to share unfortunately.

I know Jews can be antisemitic because I am also trans and I know that trans people like Blair White exist. There are Jews who can and do participate in antisemitism. It's unfortunate, but it does happen.

Help a Disabled Trans Jew Afford Rent & Groceries
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hate to have to keep asking for help, but I’m a few hundred short on rent + groceries again this month, and I still can’t afford to fix my car, so I could really use some assistance.
I’ve been able to do odd jobs & commissions, but I’m still struggling finding more consistent/permanent employment that works with my situation.
anything helps 💙

It’s almost Purim, so it’s time to share this 1845 article about two Jewish drag kings/crossdressers/trans men. I love these two and I want to be their best friend.
Tumblr media
I have no idea why Purim is referred to as the ‘Ram’s Head Festival’; it’s not named but I’m 99% sure this is about Purim based on the date and the description (the masks, and the long-established tradition of crossdressing on Purim). Maybe they got it confused with Rosh Hashanah and it’s an oblique reference to a shofar?
Absolutely incredible use of the passive voice: ‘During their scuffle with the policemen, the fair daughters of Israel were relieved of their gold bracelets and several articles of rich jewellery.’ Relieved by whom? Who can say? I’m very proud of these funky fresh boys for beating the shit out of at least one cop.

I know it's a bit of a joke that so many converts are trans (actually it was to the point where I only started to meet cis converts when I went to shul for the first time), but from my observations, this is often for two reasons:
1. Being primed to recognize when something doesn't feel Right
And
2. Also being primed to accept when you're going to be separated from society in major ways
While being trans isn't inherently about how misplaced you feel in the world, it's such a common experience (dysphoria is irrelevant in this instance - you can feel like this with zero dysphoria). As someone who felt forced into certain gendered roles and whatnot, I understand intimately how it feels when you're not Being, you're just Acting. In the church, I felt like I wasn't being a type of person, I was acting as a type of person, and because I have had so many experiences with that feeling already, it isn't hard for me to recognize it.
Additionally, I've already been socially taught what it's like to feel separate from others because of who you are. I spent most of my life with that experience, too. If someone told me about the weird comments and stares people would make about my kippah, I'd laugh on your face - how is that supposed to intimidate me when I was visibly trans for much of my life? I think what stops some people from converting can be the social factor of the dominant culture recognizing that you are deliberately separating yourself from it - this obviously is a very valid feeling and worry. However, I've found that for me it's like... What's new about that? How is that materially stopping me when some of the worst experiences I had being trans was when I was a literal child?
I think what we're actually witnessing is trans people being pre-primed to react to certain feelings. It's not necessarily that trans people inherently convert compared to cis people, but that trans people have experiences that lend themselves rather well to embracing judaism quicker.
I use myself as an example since I know what my feelings about this are. This does not mean that other trans people or trans converts will relate, and it certainly isn't true that no cis convert wouldn't feel similarly. I don't think being trans and converting are the exact same, but they are cousins in certain specific ways.

"I have always believed that in order for LGBTQ Jews to connect with our God, we need to stop shaming LGBTQ Jews. God made us who we are, and we ought to fully acknowledge and celebrate every aspect of our lives. If we are committed to the theological ideal that all people are created b’tzelem Elohim, “in the image of God,” then we have to include gay, lesbian, bisexual, non-binary, and transgender people. God made us all. Just as we are. Full Stop. When we, as LGBTQ Jews, can stop separating our sexuality from our spirituality, we will live fuller, richer, and more meaningful lives. For me, this is an issue of shleimut—“wholeness” or “completeness.” The Jewish LGBTQ person lives in shleimut when she/he/zee does not have to be Jewish in one place and queer in another, but can be all of themselves at every place and every time. We cannot cut off our sexuality any more than we could cut off being Jewish, and if we have to hide any part of ourselves, we are not authentic to our own souls. Our integrity to live in the world is fully realized when we cannot only acknowledge our sexuality, but celebrate it as a gift from God. We are complete without needing to be changed. We are complete and whole and blessed."

like the reason jkr denied book burnings of trans medical books isn't even antisemitism, it's because she refuses to acknowledge trans people existed in the past.
is it holocaust denial? yes, that's a documented event that happened as part of the holocaust, and she's denying it. but why do you care? because it's about you, it's about her engaging in holocaust denial to deny trans identities, not about her actually denying a part of the holocaust.
some of you don't even care the reasons those books were burned is because they were written by a Jewish doctor and Nazis saw gender affirming care as a Jewish conspiracy to weaken the population, you're only mad we lost years of trans research, and that a terf is denying that.
you don't care about the holocaust, you don't care about holocaust denial, you don't care about Nazi book burnings, you care Nazis burned these specific books that relate to your identity and that one popular terf is trying to say that never happened.
