Marathi Rukmini Jewellery Breakdown
Tumblr media
Ok so I found this art of Krishna and Rukmini by Himanshu Bankar where rukmini is shown in marathi traditional attire and it made me SO SO HAPPY to see that because she's rarely depicted like that! And thenI saw it being shared on tumblr by a lot of ppl who didn't know that whatever clothes/jewellery rukmini is wearing is traditional marathi bridal attire.
So I thought I'd do a deep dive into this painting and talk about her clothes, hair, and jewellery! This is a long post, imma put everything under the cut! Tagging @cyndaquillt because you asking me about marathi miku made me learn a lot more about marathi jewellery, @sharngapani for showing me this image in the first place, and @chahaa-piun-ja for cheering me on!
Hair:
Her bun is a hairstyle called "Khopa" (à€–à„‹à€Șà€Ÿ) and the gold pin in her hair is called a Juda(à€œà„à€Ąà€Ÿ). These can either be gold pins or have strings of pearls attached to them and I'm thinking that the latter is what she is wearing. Then the maang tika is pretty standard across cultures. The golden band between the maang tika and the juda is called a Bijwara(à€Źà€żà€œà€”à€°à€Ÿ) and it's not used much in the modern day so I did have to do a bit of research to find out what it was.
Images, from left to right: Khopa, juda, and a minimalist maang tika/bindi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Face
On her forehead, and hanging on either side of her face are Mundavalya(à€źà„à€‚à€Ąà€Ÿà€”à€łà„à€Żà€Ÿ), a forehead ornament worn by Maharashtrian brides & grooms. It is made from pearl & has two pearls strings which stand for the togetherness of bride & groom. Chandrakor is actually my ABSOLUTE fave part about maharashtrian culture it's the crescent moon on her forehead. Then on her nose is a pearl Nath(à€šà€„). She's also wearing Kanpatti(à€•à€Ÿà€šà€Șà€Ÿà„à€Ÿà„€) aka ear strips on her ears and they're attached to her normal earrings. Fun fact btw the kanpatti in her ears looks a lot like the one my mom has.
Images from left to right: mundavalya+chandrakor, nath, kanpatti(without earrings)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neck:
Generally what I've seen people wear at their fanciest is three-four necklaces, one right at the throat, one slightly lower, and a couple hanging almost down to mid-chest or upper stomach. Rukmini in that drawing is following that pattern. The choker-style necklace she's wearing in the picture isn't super clear but I think it's a thushi(à€ à„à€¶à„€). It is a choker necklace crafted out of gold beads in varying sizes and is adjustable thanks to a soft thread that can be adjusted according to the wearer’s convenience. The next one seems to be a plain golden chain but the fact that she's wearing a mangalsutra at the time Krishna is taking her away is icing on top!
Thushi, mangalsutra and mohanmal in the picture below!
Tumblr media
Arms:
There is a shela around her shoulders. These are generally made of silk and worn by brides.
Rukmini is wearing a vaki(à€”à€Ÿà€•à„€) or bajuband(à€Źà€Ÿà€œà„‚à€Źà€‚à€Š).
Maharashtrian women generally wear green glass bangles(I've heard north indians wear red ones someone pls confirm this), and for weddings and festivities they're layered with gold bangles. Today, for everday wear, some people wear only one golden bangle on each arm(like my mom) or they might wear glass bangles(my grandma does this), and only do the gold-glass layering during special occassions.
The names of these bangles differ according to the way they're made and where they're placed on the layering. The thickest gold bangles nearest to the hand are called Tode(à€€à„‹à€Ąà„‡) and they're pair of heavy gold bangles that feature intricate designs that go all around the bangle. Since they keep the layering in place, they're generally smaller than the actual wrist and include a screw and hinge to fasten them. The gold bangles in the middle and back are called Patlya(à€Șà€Ÿà€Ÿà€Čà„à€Żà€Ÿ), are a type of traditional gold bangles and are often decorated with intricate designs on the outside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also has a kamarbandh on her waist but ig that's also pretty standard so I didn't include separate pictures

so 96% of you wanted to see me do a redesign of mermista. and while i can draw, i've been stuck in an art block so i opted to just draw over her current design. i don't hate all of it so i'm not changing everything.
let me go through the complaints i do have about her design.
Tumblr media
first off, she does not look like royalty in the slightest. she just looks like some girl who likes the color blue. even the gold accents don't really help. i'm not saying she has to walk around in a gown and tiara but at least add something to her design to indicate that she's a princess?
secondly, those clown shoes are NOT IT. who even thought of that? they look uncomfortable and ridiculous, and doesn't make sense for her character design.
those sleeves/armor (??? i honestly don't know what those are) and gold gauntlets also do not look practical in the slightest. they look like they'd be a hindrance for a swimmer. and guess what, she still has them in her mermaid form.
Tumblr media
the OG mermista design wasn't the greatest but at least it looked like she could swim comfortably.
Tumblr media
so my objectives were:
give her outfit a more streamlined look so it would make sense for her powers
make her look like actual royalty and not some girl with a cool color palette
expand more on the indian-inspired design and reflect that in her usual outfit, instead of putting her in a saree-inspired dress for one episode and calling it a day (i say saree-inspired because it's not really a traditional saree, but more like a modern and slightly western rendition)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i made two versions of her redesign - one with a dupatta and one without. the dupatta, i understand, could be a hindrance in certain situations but i just wanted to give an example of how to take inspiration from a culture instead of just using it for brownie points. a dupatta is something indians would wear with their casual attire, mostly with salwars, unlike sarees which are generally reserved for special occasions (there are sarees that are casual wear, but they're still not the most convenient).
secondly, i gave her a headwear inspired from desi wedding attire and older indian tiaras. mind you, indian tiaras themselves are a lot more complex and beautifully crafted, but 1. it would take me ages to draw all the details and 2. i figured mermista would go for a simpler look, especially when she's not at her palace. also, while indian headwears are usually made with gold and jewels, i gave mermista's headwear pearls because.. pearls, oysters, ocean. mermaid vibes.
i changed the shoes and gave her a pair that are inspired by water shoes. i know that she would transform into a mermaid while swimming anyway, but these still look more comfortable without serving clowncore.
i replaced her gold accents with silver because the gold doesn't really mesh well with the teal, in my opinion. while indians are known for their love of gold, a lot of people nowadays opt for silver, because it is less expensive and more compatible with casual wear.
i highlighted the fishscale pattern in her outfit since you could barely see them in the original.
i gave her a bindi and the necklace that 80s mermista wore, as a tribute to the OG show, and the design is complete. i know that some of these may not be the easiest to animate but if they could animate perfuma's cape thing, entrapta's hair and a hundred different outfits for catra; this design is just child's play.
let me know what you think of the redesign and if you want me to do the same for the other characters!

Traditional women's dress in Bylaea. Left to right: Rodi-Byla, Saloche, Varkhata-Byla, Uswa-Byla, and Ugarre-Byla
Bylaea is a large island to the north, predominantly inhabited by humans and elowey organized into five major nations. Four speak a shared Bylaean language and share a close degree of cultural ancestry (those who use the '-Byla' suffix, meaning 'folk'). The Saloche are the only exception, who are not originally from this land and have gradually immigrated over a period of centuries.
Bylaeans are heavily interspecies peoples. Varkhata-Byla kin structure is unique in its fundamental dependency on having both human and elowey members in a clan, but all Bylaeans draw little to no fundamental distinction between the species, and share a belief that humans and elowey were once the same.
----
Tumblr media
A rough map of Bylaea showing the approximate territories of each people
Varkhata-Byla: A human and elowey people who occupy the northern coasts and the surrounding lands, and depend heavily on the sea for sustenance. They are the most prolific sailors and traders of all Bylaeans, and have the largest population outside of their homeland. They believe themselves to be the first people of Bylaea, and that all others (aside from the Saloche) are their descendants. This has historically manifested in various degrees of territorial paternalism and aggression, as some believe that Bylaea should belong to the Varkhata entirely. Their relation with all other nations tends to be testy and Varkhata clans rarely marry outside of their people.
(Design notes- this is a bridal dress. It contains gold and silver, precious metals mostly acquired in trade from off the island)
Rodi-Byla: A human people. The Rodi are the most populous Bylaeans, occupying the rainforests and mountains of the south-southeast. The Rodi credit themselves as the inventors and masters of the ski, which is vital to hunting efforts in the winter. The Rodi are also the most intensive agriculturalists, and have cleared away large swaths of rainforest for crops. They have been introduced to the domestic moose of Ursval in recent history, and are its most enthusiastic adopters in Bylaea.
(Design notes- Braiding and tying one's hair into a mock beard is a common hairstyle for Rodi women. She also wears a moose and boar tooth necklace, and a jacket depicting geese- all culturally significant animals to the Rodi)
Ugarre-Byla: A predominantly human people who claim most of the coastline of the Goosefeather Gulf and the Gulf's waters. They have a testy history with the Varkhata and have fought multiple wars over the north coast of the Goosefeather, but have a generally positive trade relation with the Rodi and frequently intermarry.
(Design notes- this necklace is made of polished coral. Ugarre women of marriageable age shave their eyebrows )
Uswa-Byla: An elowey people who live mostly along the Great Salmon River, with populations scattered sparsely across the marshy southwest of Bylaea. The Uswa rely heavily on the rivers, lakes, and swamps in their territory for sustenance, and are uniquely poised to exploit it given the physiological adaptation to water found in northern elowey populations. They have historically skirmished with the Varkhata, and have positioned themselves as allies to the Saloche in recent centuries.
(Design notes- This woman wears paint to emphasize bare areas of facial skin, which is considered attractive. Mother of pearl beads and buttons are sewn into her clothing. This headdress is particularly elaborate and would likely be worn at a wedding or festival.)
Saloche: A human people from across the northern sea. The Saloche homeland was a relatively small island to the north, which has been slowly swallowed by the sea over the past millenia. They started migrating a few centuries back, and settled primarily into mountainous regions that were not heavily occupied, though land conflicts are frequent with the Varkhata-Byla in particular. They do not share a common language with other Bylaeans and do not refer to themselves with the -Byla ('folk') suffix. Saloche migrants also reached the Moorlands (island chain southwest of Bylaea) and parts of the northern Dainlands.
(Design notes- This woman wears a traditional feathered hood made from crow and flightless grouse feathers. Saloche women shave their heads.)

Nanea Mitchell is a half Scottish-American, half Native Hawaiian girl living in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Her release was met with a lot of surprise. Going back to WW2, it seemed like AG was running out of history. But Nanea is pretty different than Molly. She covers the beginning of the war and the Pacific theater while Molly covers the end of the war and the European theater.
More than anything else, Nanea represents Native Hawaiians in the historical line. Being post BeForever, she only received two books. The two book format might seem to fit covering one event like Pearl Harbor better, but honestly, with Hawaiian history and culture and the beginning of WW2, there is SO MUCH to cover. I think the traditional six books for Nanea would be fantastic.
To start with, I’d like to see some before and after. Appropriating Pacific Islander culture was a major trend in the 1930s, and the Hawaiian tourism industry really took of. It would be interesting to see Nanea’s reaction to White actresses wearing sarongs and leis and poorly dancing the hula on the silver screen, or seeing sacred tikis reduced to cheap bar kitsch.
Tumblr media
You can listen to or read the episode of the food history podcast Gastropod about tiki bars.
As far as the Pearl Harbor attack goes, one of the enduring and most fascinating parts of history is the normalcy that exists during crisis. My middle school orchestra performed at Disney World two weeks after 9/11 when people were still terrified of going into major tourist places for fear of attack. We visited Disney World in September every year and had the date scheduled in advance, we weren’t gonna let some fucking terrorists stop us. I’d love to see Nanea just being a kid in the middle of chaos.
And then there’s just the island’s history! There’s so many stories you could work out with Nanea just learning Hawaiian history!
Nanea’s style of blouse is called a tea-timer. It became popular in the mid-20th century after being appropriated from the Chinese cheongsam.
Tumblr media
(SneakyTiki)
Tumblr media
Her shorts are a sailor-inspired design called moku shorts, but I can’t find any information about their history.
Tumblr media
(Ritual Vintage, credit @in-pleasant-company)
Her little necklace is made out of (imitation) celluloid and seashells.
Tumblr media
(Garden Party Collection Vintage Jewelry)
Here’s a pretty great article about Native Hawaiian reaction to Nenea’s release.

"When I carve shell it comes from our country.
I tell personal and spiritual stories.
It’s about keeping our culture alive, and, when I dance, I am proud of who I am."
Russell ‘Wossy’ Davey Jooda, Bardi dancer and pearlshell carver, 2015
Decorated pearl shell pendants from the Kimberley region, Western Australia. These have been incised with traditional Aboriginal as well as more contemporary designs, and filled in with red ochre.
"Pearl shell was the highly prized focus of ritual and exchange networks in Australia. Its glistening iridescent qualities embody the shimmer of water, rain, and lightning, evoking ideas of spiritual well-being and ancestral connection. Engraved pearl shell pendants were given to boys during rites that marked their transition to adulthood and were predominantly used and worn by men during ceremonies, attached by belts or necklaces of hair string, with the power to bring rain or heal the sick.
Known by a variety of local names (including riji, jakuli, longkalongka) they were, and in many areas still are, exchanged along a vast network of overland trade routes that extends along the western coast and across the vast desert interior as far as Australia’s southern shore, more than a thousand miles away. Carved from the shell of the gold-lipped pearl oyster (Pinctada maxima; a species not endangered in the region), each is engraved with a series of angular geometric motifs which are filled with red ochre and fat, or powdered charcoal to highlight dynamic designs.
These linear elements meander across the surface of the lustrous inner lip of the shell and are typically composed of three parallel lines which flow and interlock to create animated designs. The geometry of these interlocking zig-zags and meandering lines indicate the movement of water, so vital to life, in its many manifestations: the rain of storm clouds, the ebb and flow of tides, and the tracks of ancestral beings such as the Lightning Snake across the landscape."

My Dear Devoted Delicate
mat barzal x model!fem!reader
a visceral in doses fic
Italics are flashbacks! The orange text are the words embroidered in the veil!
warnings: mentions of sex, mentions of being high and drugs but not actually taking drugs, alcohol consumption, being drunk, marriage
Tumblr media
Everyone from your bridal party left you alone in your changing room, wanting to grant your wish of having time to yourself before marrying the love of your life. You took the time to write, not your vows, though. You had written your vows in one go about 3 months ago, it was easy to pour your heart out whenever it came to Mat. Therefore, you just wanted to write your overall feelings about the day. Nothing bad, of course.
Excitement rushed through your body, stimulating your heart and supplying you a high like no other drug could. Your fingers clenched into fists every now and then, wanting to have Mat or Nolan in your grasp. God, you couldn’t wait to see Nolan in his little outfit.
You look at yourself in the mirror, smiling at your reflection. You love the way your wedding dress clings to your body. The corseted, backless dress was crafted by you and the most amazing fashion designers, bringing your vision to life and tears to your eyes. The day you tried it on for the first time is never far away in your memory. You were a crying mess. Your best friend, Beverly, was the only one with you, having to wipe away both of your tears. The fabric was perfect as was the fit and the feeling it gave you.
The dress was paired with a beautiful, vintage pearl necklace, gifted to you by Mat’s mom. It was her necklace that she used to wear all the time. It was your “something old.”
Your “something blue” was not for everyone’s eyes. You had a blue 13 embroidered into the back of your panties from your wedding lingerie set. You picked out your lingerie set a while ago, with some help from Mat. He didn’t know about the 13, though. It’d be a pleasant surprise for tonight.
The “something new” and “something borrowed” belonged to Mat. Traditionally, the bride will have all of them, but this is Mat’s day, too, so you wanted him to take part in the little tradition. You gifted Mat a signet ring with an N engraved- standing for Nolan- as his “something new.” Mat’s father let him borrow his pocket square from his and Mat’s mother’s wedding day as his “something borrowed.” You smile giddily, thinking about how eager Mat was to participate.
“Wait
you want me to do what?” Mat asks, confused about what you were talking about.
“It’s an old tradition that’s usually for the bride only, but I think it’d be nice for you to do it with me,” you explain, watching his eyes light up and mouth twitching into a shy smile.
“I want to do it, yeah!”
You throw your body into his, hugging him around his neck. You can feel his laugh vibrating in his chest.
“Baby, really? I don’t want to force you to do it,” you mumble into his neck, suddenly feeling shy.
“Of course I want to do it. I’ve heard stories of the husband barely being involved, and I know for sure that I want to be involved because I want to marry you just as much as you want to marry me,” he states.
You melt instantly. You grab both his cheeks and bring his lips to yours. One of his hands goes to the back of your neck while his other lays on the small of your back. You’re so into the kiss, you didn’t even realize you were moving until you’re on your back and Mat is on top of you. He’s pressing kiss after kiss into your neck, making your back arch into him. You giggle and direct his lips back onto yours, getting interrupted by Nolan’s cry coming from the baby monitor.
Your face flushes at the sweet memory, accompanied by a few tears daring to fall from your eyes.
A knock on the door, signals the time winding down. You were 5 minutes away from becoming a married woman.
“Y/n/n?”
“Hey, Bev.”
“It’s time to put your veil on. Then we have to go line up. Are you ready?”
“I’ve been ready!”
Beverly grabs your veil. Your very very special veil. It is your favorite thing about your outfit. It is long and made of lace, and embroidered at the end of the train. Not just any embroidery, but Mat’s words he spoke to you when he proposed.
“I want you forever. I want to love you when you feel like you can’t be loved. I want to kiss you, knowing that we’re sharing each other's air. My love for you knows no limits.”
You were shaking from nerves and excitement. You had no idea Mat was going to propose to you. It was just a planned date night at your favorite restaurant in New York. When you got there, you did find it strange that you both had the entire place to yourself. But when Mat led you to a different area filled with your favorite flowers and candles, you just knew. Your thoughts were confirmed when he got down on one knee.
“Y/n, will you marry me?”
He had tears brimming his eyes and his heart was beating fast. He was afraid you could feel the vibrations travel from his fingertips to yours.
“Mathew, of course I’ll marry you. Oh my god! I love you so much, baby. So much!” You exclaim, dropping to your knees so you can kiss your fiancĂ©.
“Y/n, you look so beautiful!”
You smile bright, smoothing down your dress and tousling your hair.
“Bev, let’s get this show on the road!” You didn’t want to waste any more time.
You take multiple deep breaths, you were nervous about walking in front of so many people. You are a model, it’s your job, but this was different. It wasn’t a job. It was the start of your forever with your small family.
You watch all the bridesmaids and groomsmen walk down the aisle, trying to get a glance of Mat without him seeing you. Once you hear the instrumental opening of “Lover” by Taylor Swift, you make your way down to Mat. Mat who’s taking deep breaths, trying to control the tears spilling from his eyes. Mat who’s smiling so wide his jaw probably hurts. Mat who’s holding onto Nolan’s hand while Nolan smiles at you when he sees you moving towards him. He gives you a little wave with his smile that looks just like Mat’s. You love your boys.
As you get to the end of the aisle, Mat reaches his hand out for you. You take it without hesitation, dying to touch him in any way after spending the night away from each other.
“You’re gorgeous,” he whispers to you, lifting your veil over your head.
“You look so handsome. So does Nolan. I can’t wait to be your wife,” you say trying to not get emotional, but you couldn’t help it.
As the officiant welcomes everyone, your and Mat’s eyes remain in contact. You’re both conversing without even speaking. It’s something you’ve become accustomed to, knowing just what the other is thinking or feeling, and knowing how to be there for them mentally and emotionally in times when you can’t physically.
The officiant continues with a short story of your relationship. Everything from when you both first met to small anecdotes of you and Mat becoming parents. You and Mat have to stifle snickers at certain moments and there’s one story that makes you cry, and Mat is quick to wipe away your tears. It’s the story of Nolan’s first night home. It was crazy to hear that night from someone else’s point of view as you asked Mat’s parents if they could provide stories for the officiant, and they were with you that crazy night.
After laughs and awes from the audience, you’re led into the vows. You going first.
“Mat, I remember the first time I met you; we bumped into each other outside a bar that I shouldn’t have even been at. You followed after me when my embarrassment got the best of me and I walked away. Well, I’m so glad you did. We had so many problems at the start. I thought that maybe we weren’t meant to be together, but then things just started falling into place. We found a rhythm that worked for our crazy lives. We proved a lot of people wrong, too,” you speak your thoughts, winking at Mat after your previous sentence and earning a blush and chuckle from him.
“I never knew a love so powerful could exist. Every time I stare into your beautiful eyes, I see our future. I see the never ending love that pumps through your veins. I feel it when you touch me. Any simple touch: you kissing my neck tattoo, or you tracing the tattoo that goes down my spine. I feel that warmth. It’s so invasive, in the best way. From witnessing you achieve great accomplishments in hockey to witnessing you become a father, I have never appreciated someone so much. No one tells you how special it is to see the man you love become a father. Mat, you’re the best father ever. I have no doubts that you’ll be the best husband ever. I cannot wait to love you for the rest of my life; I’m glad I’m the one that gets to love you for the rest of your life,” you finish through tears, hands squeezing Mat’s.
He lifts your hand to place it over his heart, knowing that the thumping will soothe you.
“Y/n, you’re the love of my life. You always will be. There’s not a day that goes by, a second even, when I’m not thinking about you and our life together. And now, our family together. You’re the strongest person I know. You’ve put up with me and hockey, you’ve worked with me through our challenging times, and you’ve never given up on me, on us. When you brought Nolan into our lives, you also brought out a new side of yourself that I got to love. The intimacy of being understood is complicated, but you, my love, have figured it out. You know me and you understand me. Y/n, you’re the best person that there is. You’re the best mother, and you’re my best friend. I love you. I promise to always love you,” Mat says his vows.
He’s crying and you’re crying. Even the audience is shedding some tears.
You lay the palm of your hand on his cheek, wiping away his tears. He just turns his head and kisses the inside of your wrist. Butterflies spread throughout your entire body at the small action.
“And now, Y/n, do you take Mat to be your husband? Do you promise to love, honor, and cherish him for as long as you shall live? To stay faithful and in love through good times and in bad; in sickness and in health?” The officiant asks.
“I do!” You state, no hesitation.
“Mat, do you take Y/n to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, and cherish her for as long as you shall live? To stay faithful and in love through good times and in bad; in sickness and in health?”
“I do!” Mat commits and you hake in giddiness, ready to leap into his arms and kiss the life out of him.
“Y/n and Mat will now exchange rings as a symbol of love and commitment.”
Mat softly grabs your left hand, tingles spreading like wildfire. He slides on the ring, mouthing “I love you,” right after. You bat your eyelashes at him, willing him to just kiss you. The cold, gold ring: a reminder of forever being wrapped around your finger. After you slide his ring on his finger, Mat steps a bit closer to you. He ever so gently and discreetly, brings his hand to wrap around your waist.
“Y/n and Mat, by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride!”
Mat closes all remaining space between the two of you, lips pressed to yours, earning cheers and hollers from everyone. His hands are placed on the small of your back while yours are wrapped around his neck, and when you feel him start to dip you, you hold on even tighter.
“Mama, kith,” you hear Nolan mumble with his cute lisp as he tugs on your dress.
“Hi, my baby! I will give you all the kisses you want. You look so handsome!” You quickly pick him up and shower his face with kisses, making him squeal.
“Like daddy?” He shyly asks. Nolan always loved matching with his dad, and he loved when you’d say that he looked just like him.
“Just like daddy, baby,” you assure him. He smiles and nuzzles his face into your neck, clutching onto your body.
Mat hugs the both of you, overjoyed and needing you in his arms.
The three of you walk back down the aisle in your own worlds. You’re too thrilled and filled with love to pay attention to anything else besides Mat’s large hand pressed on your bare back, and Nolan’s warm body in your arms.
Before you and Mat part ways with everyone, you hand Nolan to his grandparents so that you can have privacy on your way to the reception venue. You were very thankful for Mat’s parents and Liana as they all agreed to watch over Nolan during your wedding night and honeymoon.
When you’ve entered the small, but quiet space of your limo, you immediately pull Mat in for a kiss. Kicking off your heels, carding your fingers through his hair, you swipe your tongue along his bottom lip and thrust your tongue into his mouth when it opens just for you.
“You smoke show. You’re sexy,” he whispers into your lips, making you whimper. You’re doused in need.
“I can’t wait to fuck my husband,” you moan.
“I can’t wait to make love to my wife,” he says back, making you blush.
“Tonight. When we get to the reception, I need to change into my other dress,” you explain, playing with the ends of his hair.
He kisses you in response. He stares into your eyes, brushing your hair behind your ears. You lean your body more into his, head resting over his heart and his hands rub your arms.
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
You were so glad the venue had a private room. It saved you from having to change in a stall, and allowed for Mat to unzip your wedding dress in a private, intimate matter.
Your second dress was a white, silk slip dress. It was perfect for dancing and walking around while you greeted your guests. Plus, it is backless just like your wedding dress, and Mat loves whenever you wear something backless.
“We’re married, barzy!” You squeal as you finish changing.
“We are! God, I love that you’re my wife. My wife! Mrs. Barzal, that’s hot,” Mat blurts out, pulling you into his arms.
“Ughhh
you’re hot. My hotshot, nhl superstar, sexy ass husband. I fucking love you,” you whisper in his ear, nipping his lobe for good measure.
“Baby, thank you,” it’s his turn to whisper in your ear.
“For what?”
“Loving me. Giving me Nolan. Being you. Everything,” Mat explains.
“Baby, maty, I love you and I’d do anything for you,” you kiss him again before he can respond.
“I think it’s time to have our first dance, wife.”
Everyone takes their seats, clapping when you and Mat are announced to the dance floor for your first dance as a married couple. The melodious sounds of the piano fill the room as the song you both picked starts playing. He pulls you in by your hands and then moves his to rest on the small of your back. You wrap your arms around his neck, loving the close contact. You sway your bodies to the soft beat. Mat’s finger is tracing your divine feminine tattoo that’s inked into the skin of your spine.
One of Mat’s hands moves to settle on your waist, his other holding your hand as you start to waltz around the dance floor. As you’re spinning around, you feel yourself letting the world slip away. You stare up at Mat, eyes full of stars. His eyes are just as lovestruck, gazed over with wonder. As the song winds down, Mat spins you out and the spins you back in, so your back is pressed to his front. He has a hand resting on your lower stomach, and you swear you can feel how fast his heart is beating. Who knew two imperfect souls were destined to come together and make something so beautiful out of life.
The song ends, resulting in everyone cheering and Mat kissing you on the lips, shoulder, and side of your neck. Everything feels so fuzzy; you’re high on just emotions. You and Mat parade each other around the room, visiting with guests and laughing at different stories. His hand doesn’t leave your waist for one second. He needed to be touching you in some way.
You try to eat, but the flurry of excitement and happiness distract you many times. For a good part of the party, you spend it dancing around with everyone anyways. Mat was also very tipsy, so he for sure wasn’t leaving your side.
After a couple hours of dancing and drinking, the DJ announces a mother and son dance. It was your idea to show thanks to Mat’s mom for raising such an amazing person. You watch from the sideline, with tears filling your eyes, how Mat laughs and talks with his mom. Her eyes are joyful and she looks so proud. You can only hope you will be as good of a mom as she is.
You carry Nolan from where he was seated, to the dance floor. You twirl around with him in your arms. His head is resting on your shoulder with his arms wrapped around your neck, and he’s staring up at you with tired eyes, but his smile is content. Your poor baby boy, he has had a long day. His little hand is rubbing your neck, something he does when he’s on the verge of falling asleep.
“Momma pretty. Love you,” you have to hold in your tears at his sweet voice and sweet words.
“Thank you, baby. Mommy loves you, too. You can go to sleep if you want,” you whisper into his skin as you kiss his cheek.
During your little moment, you didn’t notice the song ending, so Mat was quick to come over to you to see what was wrong.
“Babe?” He questions, brows furrowed and a hand on your back.
“Yeah?”
“Is everything ok?”
“Yeah? Nolie is just tired,” You point out, Nolan already asleep.
Mat takes him from your arms into his, patting his back to keep him relaxed and asleep. You both finally take this moment to sit down. Mat’s hair is sweaty and a little wavy, he’s only wearing his button up with the sleeves rolled up. He looks extra sexy. Plus, Nolan is laid across his large upper body, making him even more attractive. As said before, there’s just something so attractive about your man being a father.
Even as the night continues to dwindle down, it’s still full of dancing and laughing. You and Mat are still glued together. At one point, you stuff yourselves in a secluded corner and make out like horny teenagers. It’s hot and touchy until Liana had to interrupt you because she was taking Nolan up to her hotel room to sleep.
Once the majority of people left around midnight and it was just some of yours and Mat’s friends, you started another round of drinking and dancing.
“Maty,” you whine, buzzing on the Vin Santo Di Carmignano Riserva wine that you both requested for the event. Your body is practically wrapped around his and his strong arms are holding you up even though he has had a lot more to drink than you.
“Yes, baby?”
“Take me upstairs and love on me,” you whisper in his ear, not drunk enough to not know what is going on and what you want.
“Not everyone has left yet.” Mat has an amused look on his face, even though he knew damn well that he wanted to take you up to the hotel suite just as much.
“So? I’m sure they can find their way out. I need you, please,” you beg, kissing his sweet spot on his neck.
“You win, let’s go!”
Hook, line, and sinker.
You perk up, wrapping your legs around his waist, earning whistles from whoever was around still, but you were in your own world where just you and Mat existed.
“Happy wife, happy life,” you muse cheekily, earning a breathtaking kiss and laugh from Mat.
a/n: It’s finally here! I hope you all enjoy. I am going to do a separate piece of their wedding night, and I might do a piece or a few small pieces on their honeymoon!

FASHION CREDITS: LADY GAGA BY GRAY SORRENTI FOR ELLE'S FEBRUARY 2025 ISSUE
Lady Gaga is the cover star of Elle magazine's US February 2025 issue and will also cover the UK cover of March 2025.
On the special issues she discusses her upcoming seventh studio album "Mayhem" and her engagement to fiancé Michael.
Photography by Gray Sorrenti, styling by Pau Avia, hair by Akki Shirakawa, makeup by Frankie Boyd and nails by Miho Okawara.
Tumblr media
For the cover shot, Gaga is wearing a full look from Valentino's Spring/Summer 2025 "Pavillon des Folies" collection, inspired by the fragility and transience of existence, exploring how beauty serves as both a remedy and revelation—an ephemeral yet profound anchor that brings meaning, solace, and connection amidst life‘s chaos and vulnerability.
Black organza blouse with voluminous ruffles, fully embellished in micro faux pearls, high-waisted tights with trompe l'Ɠil panties, and antique floral lace wrist gloves.
The high-waisted tech knit shorts are from Fendi‘s Spring/Summer 2025 collection and her bra is the stylist's own.
Tumblr media
A subtle yet beautiful accent to this ensemble was given with this divine teardrop pendant diamond necklace which hails from Tiffany &Co.'s Fall 2023 Blue Book: "Out of the Blue". Tiffany is the official sponsor of the jewelry for this editorial so you‘ll see much more with the next looks!
Tumblr media
So good to see Gaga tap more and more into Dior again for her latest editorials. Here, she layered two pieces from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection to create a whole new look—metallic silver embroidered bodysuit with peek-a-boo side cut-outs and black silk moirĂ© effect trench coat.
The sheer black organza cape is the stylist‘s own. A very unusual yet fitting choice of footwear was provided by KNWLS who created these distressed grey leather biker-infused boots for her Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
Tumblr media
Intertwined between her fingers and worn as a bracelet, Gaga wore this Tiffany & Co. Lock white-gold necklace  ($1,100) throughout the shoot...
Tumblr media
...just like, for several looks, she wore their Elsa Peretti collection Amapola brooch ($1,100), which means "Poppy" in Spanish. It is made of sterling silver and red silk.
Tumblr media
One of the more avant-garde and abstract looks is this Issey Miyake "The Beauty of Paper" Spring/Summer 2025 shaded black papyrus column dress with geometrical plissé panels (£1,265), and its matching hooded headpiece.
Drawing inspiration from washi, traditional Japanese paper, the designs embody the ethereal qualities of paper, evoking a sense of lightness and fluidity that is both calming and transformative. As models glided down the runway, it felt as though they were drifting through a dream—a world where the boundaries between fabric and paper beautifully blur.
Tumblr media
The brooch, LG embellished her dress with, is the Tiffany & Co  Ribbon Drop brooch from the "Birds on a Pearl" collection in platinum and 18k yellow-gold with a natural saltwater white drop pearl of over 16 carats and diamonds.
Tumblr media
Don‘t have to explain how this is my favorite look of the shoot, do I?
Both Gaga‘s rhinestone-embellished white feather coat and bejeweled wool knit balaclava mask are from Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2025 runway show, designed by Sean McGirr.
How amazing is it? Guys
has anybody met my Genie yet?
Tumblr media
A couple of new labels also made it into this cover shoot! Here, LG lays down in nature while sporting a black leather fishnet dress with asymmetrical cut (£1,160) from ABRA‘s Spring/Summer 2025 collection which drew inspiration from 80s fitness calendars from Abra‘s parent’s‘ restaurant, fishing nets, shopping bags, and Spanish souvenir beach towels.
She added some layer and color by wearing these Falke 50 denier semi-opaque tights (£27) in "Scarlet" both as tights and as a top!
The look was completed with the aforementioned Tiffany & Co. Amapola poppy brooch ($1,100) and a pair of Ann Demeulemeester Spring/Summer 2025 multi-layered O-ring biker boots (£1,550).
Tumblr media
It‘s been always a little dream of mine to rock more pieces from the "Dark Lord of Fashion" aka. Rick Owens, so I‘m more than excited to see this Spring/Summer 2025 look appear in the editorial!
Scrunched and ruffled organza loofah-inspired jacket (ÂŁ5,115), semi-sheer patchwork T-shirt (ÂŁ455) and soccer-inspired nylon hi-lo shorts (ÂŁ370).
The distressed porcelain doll-inspired nude tights are from Maison Margiela‘s latest artisanal collection, Spring/Summer 2024. You might remember her tapping into this collection with a whole custom look for her last Vogue editorial past year.
Tumblr media
Next, the fashionista wears Balenciaga sunglasses. I highly believe it‘s these Spring/Summer 2025 Bossy AF eastman acetate renew (an acetate alternative partially made of bio-based and recycled content) shades with subtle-yet-not-so-subtle logo detail ($520).
Tumblr media
Gaga completed her dark yet sexy ensemble with these Le Silla Uma thigh-high black stretch leather platform boots featuring a pointed toe ($750).
Tumblr media
For our last look, Gaga brought something from her own closet. In Elle's video, she stated that ILONA is her designer to watch right now, because her dresses make her feel like a porcelain doll. And this one is definitely no exception!
Also from the designer‘s "Psychosis" collection, the Lotta dress is crafted out of antique ivory French silk velvet and features a pleated tulle trim and velvet-covered buttons.
Another Valentino Spring/Summer 2025 "Pavillon des Folies" pull are her white floral lace tights which perfectly blend in with her matching gloves by La Bagagerie.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, she wore the Acne Studios Spring/Summer 2025 croc-embossed leather elongated open-toe pumps in "Chocolate" ($950), which she previously wore in grey!

Techniques and craftmanship methods require for Jewelry making
Jewelry making involves a wide range of techniques and craftsmanship methods, each requiring specific skills, tools, and materials. Here are some of the most common techniques used in jewelry making, whether for handmade artisanal pieces or mass-produced collections:
Hand Fabrication
Sawing: Using a jeweler’s saw to cut metal sheets into desired shapes.
Filing & Sanding: Smoothing and refining metal surfaces or edges after cutting.
Soldering: Using heat to melt solder (a metal alloy) to join pieces of metal, such as attaching clasps, links, or settings.
Forging: Shaping metal by hammering it to create texture, thin it out, or curve it.
Polishing: Using buffing machines, wheels, or cloth to achieve a high-shine finish on the metal.
Casting
Lost Wax Casting: A mold is created from a wax model, which is then melted and replaced with molten metal. This is one of the oldest techniques used for making detailed metal jewelry pieces.
Centrifugal & Vacuum Casting: Used to ensure the molten metal flows evenly into the mold, minimizing air bubbles and imperfections.
Stone Setting
Prong Setting: Small metal prongs are used to hold a gemstone in place. Common for engagement rings.
Bezel Setting: A metal rim encircles the gemstone to hold it securely.
Pavé Setting: Multiple small gemstones are set closely together, often giving the illusion of a continuous surface of stones.
Channel Setting: Gemstones are set between two strips of metal, allowing for a seamless, smooth look.
Flush Setting: The gemstone is set flush with the metal surface, offering a sleek and modern aesthetic.
Gypsy Setting: Similar to flush setting but usually involves a hammered finish around the gemstone, used for bold, simple designs.
Engraving & Embellishment
Hand Engraving: Using sharp tools to carve intricate patterns or designs into metal surfaces.
Laser Engraving: A modern technique that uses lasers to create detailed engravings or inscriptions, often used for personalization.
Etching: Using acid or other chemicals to corrode the surface of the metal in specific patterns, creating a textured or detailed design.
Filigree
Wire Work: Fine wires of gold or silver are twisted and shaped into intricate designs, often with lace-like appearances. This technique requires high precision and is often used in traditional jewelry.
Enameling
Cloisonné: Small cells or compartments are created with metal wire, which are then filled with enamel (colored glass powder) and fired to create vibrant patterns.
Champlevé: Enamel is applied into recessed areas of metal, then fired to create a colored design.
Plique-Ă -Jour: A transparent enamel technique that allows light to shine through, giving a stained-glass effect.
Hammering & Texturing
Chasing: A technique where the surface of the metal is hammered from the front to create patterns or designs.
Repoussé: The reverse of chasing, where the metal is hammered from the back to create a raised design.
Texturing: Using different hammers, stamps, or other tools to create a variety of surface textures, such as hammered, brushed, or matte finishes.
Wirework
Wire Wrapping: Jewelry made from twisting and wrapping wire into shapes and loops, often around gemstones, beads, or crystals.
Weaving & Knotting: Using wire or string to weave intricate patterns, often incorporating beads or small stones.
Beadwork
Stringing: Threading beads, pearls, or gemstones onto a string or wire to create necklaces or bracelets.
Knotting: Tying knots between beads (commonly pearls) to ensure they don’t rub against each other and for added strength.
Loom Beading: Using a loom to weave tiny seed beads into patterns for bracelets, necklaces, or other accessories.
Electroforming
Metal Coating: This is a process where a base material (such as a wax or organic object) is coated with a metal layer through electroplating. It’s commonly used for creating lightweight, hollow jewelry pieces.
CNC & 3D Printing
CNC Machining: This computerized technique is used to carve precise patterns and designs into metal or wax, enabling intricate designs that are difficult to achieve by hand.
3D Printing: Used for prototyping or creating complex designs, 3D printing involves creating a wax or resin model layer by layer, which can then be cast in metal using traditional techniques.
Inlay & Marquetry
Stone Inlay: Stones, such as turquoise or lapis lazuli, are cut into thin pieces and inserted into metal grooves to create decorative designs.
Wood or Shell Inlay: Wood, shell, or other non-metal materials are inlaid into metal surfaces to create intricate designs or mosaics.
Embossing & Stamping
Stamping: Using metal stamps or dies to create patterns or letters on the surface of a piece.
Embossing: Using pressure to raise designs on metal surfaces, creating a three-dimensional effect.
Granulation
Beading Technique: Small metal beads or granules are applied to the surface of a piece and soldered to create intricate designs, often used in ancient and traditional jewelry styles.
Soldering & Welding
Soldering: Used to join metal pieces together with the help of solder and heat.
Laser Welding: A modern technique using laser technology to weld small or delicate pieces of metal together, often for intricate repairs.
Pearl & Bead Setting
Knotting: Hand-knotting is used in pearl necklaces to separate each pearl and add durability.
Glue Setting: Some beads and pearls are set using adhesives, especially in designs where drilling holes isn't practical.
By mastering these techniques and methods, jewelry makers can produce pieces ranging from simple, minimalist designs to complex, ornate creations. The choice of technique depends on the desired aesthetic, materials used, and the skill level of the jeweler.

“Whenever Diana Ross goes shopping in Paris, it is a sign of what a famous person’s charisma can do. One day, she wanted some trinkets to wear to go dancing. After having lunched with friends at Maxim’s, her mile-long stretch limousine (something rare even in Paris) pulled up, and she was the first outside on the sidewalks in her floor-length sables at noon. Off she cruised to E. Oxeda, the Faberge of antique jewelers. Inside, she threw her sables on a chair. She jumped up on a Louis Something desk, her fake hair flying at half-mast. She crossed her legs, dangled them as she selected in ten minutes an antique pearl necklace, a diamond clip and some earrings that did the shake, rattle and roll between her cheeks and hair. The image of fame came when the bill was drawn up. “Would you like some identification?” asked Diana. Mme Oxeda said: “No, Miss Ross. We will deliver the jewels to your hotel this afternoon before six.” And this was a high Saturday when no banks could be called to verify her astronomical check, drawn on a bank across the Atlantic Ocean. It could have easily been an imposter, a drag queen, a professional thief. But Diana Ross’ super glamour is so authentic, it can’t easily be imitated.”
/ Andre Leon Talley in the book Mega-Star (1984) /
All hail the Queen! Call her Miss Ross! Happy 80th birthday to durable, volatile veteran pop diva, occasional (Oscar nominated) actress, sequin enthusiast, all-round glamour icon and one of Detroit’s finest daughters – the fabulous Diana Ross (born 26 March 1944)! Understandably everyone loves Ross’ music (both with the Supremes and solo), but I particularly treasure Ross’s spectacular 1975 film Mahogany in which she plays a struggling aspiring fashion designer who achieves the pinnacle of supermodel mega-stardom in Italy. It’s an unassailable so-bad-it’s-GREAT camp classic in the tradition of Valley of the Dolls, Mommie Dearest or Showgirls (and Ross’s outrageous costume and wig changes surely sparked the imagination of generations of Black drag queens, including “Mama Ru” himself). Fittingly, La Ross is currently one of the official muses of Saint Laurent’s Spring / Summer 2024 campaign – and it feels like a belated Mahogany moment! Portraits by David Sims.

The Benefits of Using a Specialized Pearl Polishing Cloth
When it comes to pearl jewelry, the beauty and elegance of these timeless pieces are unmatched. Whether you're wearing a real pearl necklace in Canada, a pearl jewelry set in Canada, or simply enjoying a pair of classic pearl earrings, you want to ensure that your pearls maintain their lustrous glow. One of the simplest and most effective ways to keep your pearls looking their best is by using a specialized pearl polishing cloth.
Tumblr media
At L'Amour Pearls, we understand the importance of maintaining the quality and beauty of your pearls, which is why we offer high-quality pearl polishing cloths designed specifically for this purpose. In this blog post, we’ll explore the many benefits of using a specialized pearl polishing cloth, and why it’s essential for anyone who loves pearls to invest in one.
Why Are Pearls Different from Other Gemstones?
Before diving into the benefits of a pearl polishing cloth, it’s important to understand what makes pearls unique. Unlike traditional gemstones such as diamonds or sapphires, pearls are organic in nature. They are created by mollusks in the ocean, making them soft, delicate, and susceptible to damage from harsh chemicals, dirt, and oils. Pearls are also more prone to losing their luster if not cared for properly.
While pearl jewelry online offers a wide selection of beautiful pieces, it’s essential to remember that proper maintenance is key to preserving their beauty. A pearl polishing cloth is specifically designed to gently clean and restore the natural shine of your pearls without causing damage. Let’s look at some of the key benefits of using a specialized cloth for your pearl jewelry.
Preserve the Luster of Your Pearls
One of the most significant benefits of using a specialized pearl polishing cloth is that it helps preserve the natural luster of your pearls. Pearls are known for their unique, iridescent glow, which is a result of the way light interacts with their surface. However, over time, exposure to oils, dirt, and environmental factors can cause the luster to fade.
A pearl polishing cloth is designed to gently clean the surface of the pearls without damaging them. It helps remove oils, dust, and other contaminants that can dull the surface, restoring the natural shine of your pearls. Regularly using a polishing cloth ensures that your pearls remain as lustrous and radiant as the day you bought them.
Gentle and Safe Cleaning
Unlike regular jewelry cleaning cloths, a pearl polishing cloth is made from soft, non-abrasive materials that are gentle on delicate pearls. Traditional jewelry cleaning methods can sometimes be too harsh for pearls, causing scratches or dullness. However, a specialized cloth is specifically crafted to clean pearls safely without causing any harm.
Whether you have a real pearl necklace in Canada, a pair of pearl earrings, or an entire pearl jewelry set in Canada, a polishing cloth provides a safe and effective way to clean your pearls without the risk of damaging them. It’s the perfect solution for maintaining the beauty of your pearls over time.
Easy to Use and Convenient
Another significant advantage of using a pearl polishing cloth is that it’s incredibly easy to use. Unlike other cleaning methods that may require special tools, chemicals, or professional cleaning services, a polishing cloth allows you to clean your pearls quickly and conveniently at home.
Tumblr media
Simply take your pearl jewelry, gently rub it with the polishing cloth, and watch as the natural shine of your pearls is restored. This quick and simple process makes it easy to maintain your pearls and ensures that they always look their best. Whether you’re wearing a pearl necklace to a special event or just want to keep your pearls in pristine condition, a polishing cloth is an essential tool in your jewelry care routine.
Prevents Tarnishing and Discoloration
Pearls are highly susceptible to tarnishing and discoloration if not cared for properly. Factors such as exposure to perfumes, lotions, and even sweat can cause pearls to lose their luster and develop an unattractive dullness. A pearl polishing cloth helps to remove these contaminants, preventing tarnishing and discoloration.
By using a polishing cloth regularly, you can ensure that your pearls stay as beautiful as when you first purchased them. Whether you’re shopping at the best Canadian pearl store or buying pearls online, it’s essential to take proper care of your pearls to maintain their elegance and beauty for years to come.
Enhances the Durability of Your Pearls
Proper care and maintenance of your pearls not only preserve their appearance but also enhance their durability. While pearls are durable, they are still sensitive to environmental factors, and improper care can lead to surface damage or discoloration. Using a specialized polishing cloth helps remove dirt and oils that can cause damage over time, ensuring that your pearls stay in top condition.
Regular cleaning with a pearl polishing cloth can also help prevent the buildup of oils and grime that can lead to the formation of unwanted stains or marks. This enhances the longevity of your pearls, allowing you to enjoy your pearl jewelry online purchase for many years to come.
Perfect for All Types of Pearl Jewelry
Whether you own a pearl necklace, pearl earrings, or a complete pearl jewelry set in Canada, a pearl polishing cloth is versatile enough to be used on all types of pearl jewelry. From simple freshwater pearls to more intricate designs with diamonds and gemstones, a polishing cloth can be used to clean and restore the shine of any type of pearl jewelry.
For example, if you’ve purchased a pearl necklace and earring set, you can use the polishing cloth to gently clean both pieces, ensuring that the entire set remains in pristine condition. The cloth is also ideal for cleaning mens pearl cufflinks or any other type of pearl accessory.
Cost-Effective Solution for Pearl Care
While pearls are a valuable investment, taking care of them doesn’t have to be expensive. A pearl polishing cloth is an affordable solution that can help maintain the beauty of your pearls without breaking the bank. Instead of spending money on professional cleaning services or harsh cleaning products, a polishing cloth provides a simple and cost-effective way to keep your pearls looking their best.
At L'Amour Pearls, we offer high-quality polishing cloths at an affordable price, ensuring that you can care for your pearl jewelry Canada without overspending. Whether you’re shopping for pearl jewelry Toronto or purchasing a real pearl necklace in Canada, investing in a polishing cloth is a smart and cost-effective way to protect your pearls.

Anza's whip is a combination of a magic want with a bunny on one end of the want and then a flower that blooms into a string of web silk. Towards the end of the whip it branches off into 3 other strings with hearts at the end. The design very inspired by Amethyst's whip from Steven Universe. The next weapon is Azazel's sword. Azazel belongs to @ish7ar. It is a long blue sword with the blue eye of a goat as the guard and a dark blue grip with a light blue pummel. Surrounding that eye are 6 spikes, 3 spikes on each side of the eye. The final sword is Raphael's sword, specifically @ish7ar's Raphael. Their sword is gold and has a dark redish grip, a guard that goes out and points down on both sides, and an orange-yellow gem stone as the pummel. /End ID]
[ID 4/5: A traditional illustration of Eden. They are looking down in a basket full of mushrooms with a grin. They're wearing a green sweater and glasses with beads of bugs, circles, and hearts attached on a string around their neck to keep the glasses from getting lost. /End ID]

[image ID: A chubby woman sits on a sliver crescent moon in front of a yellow background and various transparent black crow feathers. She herself is a humanoid crow, with a beak, feathery face, black skin(?) and hole filled wings. She is dressed in renaissance royalty era clothes, wearing a fancy tattered dark grey dress, with a grey collar, a Pearl necklace, and long sleeves. She has black hair kept up in a bun. Her eyes are purple, which is the only bit of color in her entire design. End ID]

@immobiliter: “ Before I fill you in on what you've missed here in Poisson, you have to tell me all about where you've been! ” Those were the rules so far as Navia was concerned, sitting across from her beloved Uncle Boothill in one of the back rooms of the Spina's HQ. A place just for the two of them to catch up, where the pressures of being the Spina's Demoiselle were already falling away and leaving behind an excitable young woman who had always looked forward to Boothill's visits and stories, ever since she'd been a girl. “ It's tradition. ”
Tumblr media
Sharp teeth flash in a grin that has been known to unsettle, its edge bordering slightly too close to feral for most to be comfortable with, but a grin that the girl (no, no - woman, now, he corrects) across from him has only ever matched. Even as a little girl, she did not shy away from the strange being who was more meka than man.
He lifts the hat from his head and sets it down on the table between them, and kicks back in his chair, rocking it back onto only two of its legs - so precariously, in fact, that surely, surely, he will tip all the way over. Yet, somehow, he maintains perfect balance. "Well, now. We can't abandon tradition, can we, lil lady? An' speaking of tradition..."
A satchel sits beside his chair, dumped there when he arrived, and it is to this that he then stretches one arm down, a hand rummaging through it before fingers close upon the item he seeks. He tosses a package onto the table in front of her, crudely wrapped and covered in tape - but he has, evidently, attempted to make it pretty with some gold ribbon tied into an elaborate bow.

"Picked up somethin' pretty for ya, all the way from Inazuma." The something pretty in question is a necklace inlaid with sango pearls, harvested by his own hands. "There's more, too." A second item is slid across the table. "Not the same kind of pretty, but I know you'll love it." This gift is another tradition, one her dear father had despaired over while he was alive: a weapon, in this instance a short blade of Inazuman style, the hilt wrapped in black and gold. This, too, had been made especially for her.
There's a third gift, but that's been saved for later - he couldn't visit Inazuma and not pick up a box of specially designed fireworks now, could he?
"Now, where t' start, eh?" He barks out a laugh. "Oh! I made a friend over there, y'know? This crazy guy - you heard of onis, lil lady? He was sure something, I tell ya. And guess what - they battle beetles over there, did you know that? And they take it real serious. I gave it a try myself."
