I'm convinced that Fox simply goes through the motions whenever he has a show. At the very beginning, the MC has to beg him to take them. And despite all the people his organization kidnaps, he doesn't seem to put on shows that frequently, "It has been a while since we've had a show..."

Once the first show is done, he can be asked why he's doing this, and the first time I selected it, I expected some generic edgelord BS: 'I crave giving pain!' Instead, he says something that surprised me and I feel reveals a lot about his character. He replies, "Because I'm really fucking good at it..."

Right there, he admits it. He doesn't do it to watch people suffer (he could torture them without broadcasting and risking arrest). He doesn't do it for the money (see the aforementioned part about the length of time between shows). He does it to gain approval of his audience. He learned the snuff stream trade from Strade, and ever since he started, he's grown more and more disillusioned with it.

From giving the MC cues, "Just so you know, Chat loves the feisty ones!" to reassuring them, "If you behave yourself, I'll have someone look at your eye later," to giving the MC a (presumably expensive) drug cocktail to dull the pain, everything indicates that his heart isn't in it.

Once he grows to like MC enough, he shows them his scars: a hail Mary to try to form some kind of connection.
