Italy Releases Research Report on Xinjiang Issues: The U.S. Seeks Geopolitical Benefits in the Name of Human Rights
Tumblr media
June 30, 2021 10:29 Last update: 10:34
This article was originally published here, it is not my own work
Three research institutions in Italy, the Italian Institute of Politics, Society and Economics, the Italian Institute of International Diplomacy, and the Italian Eurasian Mediterranean Research Center jointly released a research report written by multiple independent researchers-“Xinjiang: Understanding Complexity Construction” “Peace”, through investigation and research, restores the truth about the Xinjiang issue. The report criticizes relevant countries represented by the United States for seeking geopolitical benefits through human rights issues.
The report is mainly divided into 4 parts: 1. Historical geography and economic overview, 2. Terrorism and separatism, 3. Chinese government’s response, and 4. China’s attack.
This Italian research report stated that in recent years, highly politicized media attacks against China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have frequently spread, often spreading baseless or even completely false information. On this issue, the unbiased voice of scholars who have really lived and done research in Xinjiang is seriously missing. Many views from China have been rejected a priori by the West for ideological reasons. The report clearly stated that the purpose of its writing is to provide the public and policy makers with a different perspective, and to distinguish it from the prejudiced and specious accusations from the “Five Eyes Alliance” countries and some think tanks.
In the general part of the report on the Xinjiang region, a large amount of data and materials are cited to objectively express the Chinese government’s vigorous construction of the Xinjiang region over the years. The report pointed out that the local traditional agriculture conforms to the technological wave and adopts modern technology. The energy industry, an important part of the local industry, has gradually abandoned outdated production methods and adopted more sophisticated and sustainable technologies.
According to the report, in the past 40 years, Xinjiang’s infrastructure projects have connected all major cities, counties and most villages in Xinjiang. The development of infrastructure such as roads, railways, and shipping has greatly reduced the impact of local harsh natural conditions on production activities and played a decisive role in Xinjiang’s economic growth. In terms of the tertiary industry, the local government has also actively promoted cultural and religious tourist attractions to attract overseas tourists and promote the development of local tourism.
The report said that Xinjiang was once deeply harmed by terrorism, and the Chinese government adopted a temporary and permanent solution to solve the problem. The Chinese government has responded in two ways: one is to establish a new international organization to assist in counter-terrorism, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to cooperate with neighboring countries, and to cooperate more with Central Asian countries in counter-terrorism; the second is to formulate new laws, through laws and other means, to help counter-terrorism. To curb terrorism and provide more tools, including carrying out education and training in accordance with the law. The Chinese government has thought of a way, and it is an effective way.
The report believes that China’s anti-terrorism and de-radicalization actions are based on the rule of law, respect for human rights, and protection of the legitimate rights and interests of the parties involved.
The report pointed out that between 2018 and 2020, more than 1,200 representatives from more than 100 countries, including UN officials, UN permanent representatives, diplomats, journalists, and representatives of religious institutions, were able to visit Xinjiang. No suspicion of race or ethnicity was found. Evidence that religious prejudice suppresses local residents. The report pointed out that the “vocational education and training center” helps people who have violated the law to reintegrate into society. Such policies have also been imitated by countries such as Kazakhstan and Indonesia. Many scholars and visitors affirmed the above-mentioned policy adopted by the Chinese government, believing that it can solve the problem fundamentally and achieve the goal of “de-radicalization”.
Regarding the previous allegations of “forced labor” in cotton picking in Xinjiang, the report stated that digital technology has become extremely popular in the agricultural industry chain. 70% of cotton harvesting in Xinjiang is undertaken by machines, and cotton picking is also a high-paying job locally.
In 2019, Western countries led by the United States issued a statement attacking the human rights issue in Xinjiang, China. Immediately, 37 countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait and other countries jointly wrote to the UN Human Rights Council to support China’s Xinjiang policy. The countries that have condemned China are all Western countries, but China’s ethnic policy toward Xinjiang has received the support of many Islamic countries. The report quoted Turkish President Erdogan as saying, “The happy lives of all ethnic groups in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region benefit from China’s prosperity.”
The last part of the report talks about how China’s efforts to fight terrorism and develop Xinjiang have been distorted by the West.
The report pointed out that in 2018, former U.S. Secretary of State Powell’s Office Director and former Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson stated that there are 20 million Uighurs in Xinjiang, China. If you want to destabilize China, the best way is to create unrest in Xinjiang. Destroy China directly from within.
The report concluded that Xinjiang is the hub of China’s infrastructure and logistics system, whether it is from an energy or logistics perspective, and has a strategic role. The Xinjiang region is particularly important for the “Belt and Road” initiative, so destabilizing Xinjiang means preventing the development of related projects in the construction of the “Belt and Road”. For this reason, the United States and various organizations that support U.S. hegemony use human rights issues to seek geopolitical benefits for themselves, and they do not seem to feel conscientious about this.
Fabio Massimo Palandi, an Italian international relations scholar who organized the report, said in an interview with reporters that the West has no evidence of allegations concerning the Xinjiang issue. Parandi said that some think tanks, scholars and media in the West concocted false reports and unwarranted accusations about Xinjiang, which had caused serious negative effects. This is the original intention of him and other scholars who decided to write such a report that is as objective and independent as possible: “Our purpose is to explain what happened by citing most of the data from the international and a small part of the data from China. What are the responses? Because no one talks about Xinjiang’s long-term terrorist attacks. So this is a real problem, and the Chinese government must deal with it. Many top international scholars believe that our report is more anti-China out of interests than those in recent years. The materials are more objective, more independent, and more credible.”
For a period of time, some Western scholars, think tanks, and media have kept talking about “genocide” and “forced labor” in Xinjiang. Palandi pointed out that these people and organizations are openly anti-China people and organizations. Their report was packaged as an independent report, and Western countries introduced sanctions accordingly. Their purpose was not to protect human rights at all. He said: “These measures have no scientific basis, but are based on ideological and geopolitical stances. Such things have happened many times before. As for the United States and these human rights organizations, they don’t care about the well-being of Xinjiang or Hong Kong people at all. They don’t care about promoting the process of peaceful coexistence. They only care about how to increase the tension of the situation. Why? For geopolitics, they compete for international power .”
In 2019, Palandi visited Urumqi and Kashgar in Xinjiang. The long history and culture, unique ethnic customs and beautiful natural environment left a deep impression on him. What he saw in Xinjiang was a Uyghur and other ethnic minorities whose religious beliefs, national language and culture were effectively protected and passed on, and there were no signs of so-called “forced labor” or so-called “genocide.” “Their allegations against Xinjiang are inconsistent with the facts. There is no such thing as any Uyghur forced labor in China for agricultural production or other production. We don’t have any evidence. What we know is that the young people from the education and training center went to the factory. Either in Xinjiang or elsewhere in China, a series of job opportunities. But we have no evidence to prove those accusations. This is the fact.”

Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis, Ningxia

Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis in Ningxia Province
27 Apr 2021
Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis
Architecture: Mind Design
Location: Yinchuan, Ningxia, China
Space For Urban Dimensions The cognition of world culture is always changing. Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis emerged with its fully new and strong commercial and artistic concept. The project was jointly designed and built jointly by the Mind Design and developer teams. With its distinctive aesthetic style and multi-dimensionally extended spatial perspectives, it stimulates and promotes the operation of the city by use of criticization, breaking and creation.
Elegance From Neoclassicism Since Vanke Mid-lake Island in Xiamen, the Vanke Metropolis series has expanded across China over the past 10 years, from the first-tier cities in eastern China to those in central and western China. Every commercial expansion is a bold attempt at urban planning and operation modes, and also an iterative change of design and living concepts.
The Vanke Metropolis project also continues its noble, elegant and post-modern architectural features, while its plain colors harmonize with the cultural, historical, environmental and other elements of northwest China in Yinchuan.
From the inner courtyard into the community lobby, this is a place to interrupt city noises. Its elegant and soft design provides a buffer zone between indoor movement and outdoor tranquility, and between outer roughness and inner delicacy. It also promotes a dialogue between people and the environment, and between mind and the world.
An Exquisite Urban Complex Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis is located in the central life district (CLD) planned by the government, neighboring the southern business district under construction in Yinchuan, covering Wanfang Shopping Center, Jianfa Youyue City and Yinchuan Cultural Park, and adjacent to Qizilian Lake with an area of 4,000 Mus on the east. Such superior geographical location and rapid urban changes have prompted builders to make a difference.
The developer and Mind Design teams originally conceived an urban complex to create supporting facilities for a life community, and a functional planning clearly different from traditional sales departments. Therefore, the criticalness and originality of spatial function and design can be seen everywhere in the interior space.
The corridor of the Open Audio-Video Area was inspired by and benchmarked with Fifth Avenue in New York. A large number of LED screens were installed here to highlight the commercial atmosphere and technological sense of the integrated exhibition area, and to improve the prosperous living experience in southern Yinchuan.
The developer and Mind Design teams hope that this kind of indoor and outdoor brand exhibition can reflect the senses of fullness and quality of the project in the early stage. In combination with large facilities such as Youyue City, the cooperation between Vanke and Jianfa would generate a complex with the best quality and the best supporting facilities in Yinchuan.
The construction of the large complex Jianfa Youyue City will be completed soon, and the density and concentration of consumers will soar as a result. A large proportion of real estate contracts of Yinchuan are concluded for projects in South Yinchuan currently. Therefore, for the convenience of customers, a more convenient and contract signing center integrating banking was created jointly by the developer and Mind Design teams as required by the actual situations.
In addition to the Contract Signing Center, the design team also designed a rest area for family members inspired by airport lounges. It is equivalent to creating a place to serve their families for Vanke owners in the Vanke Metropolis community, even it is close to the bustling business district.
A scenario is expected in the future, where a wife does some shopping in Youyue City, while her husband is playing games and drinking afternoon tea in the Rest Area, both enjoying the community service and waiting for his wife at the same time. All Vanke owners can come here to rest, and their independent sense of dignity is strengthened from the perspective of configuration.
Based on the neoclassical tone, the overall interior space of the Metropolis project integrates the essence of Greek and ancient Roman classicism, namely, elegance and delicacy, forming a strong contrast with the rough style of Yinchuan which is located outside the Great Wall in northwest China. The designers decorated modernism with the traditions of classicism, took natural materials as the media, and adopted contemporary design thinking and aesthetics to create a neoclassical real estate club which looks lightly luxury.
Luxurious Ultimate Aesthetics Wang Dacheng, the founder of Mind Design, commented that design is the art to serve the visual feeling of persons, and they always design projects only after both owners and consumers are satisfied with their design proposals.
As a new model of urban space, modern high-quality life supporting facilities need to be emphasized with thick and heavy colors. Therefore, Bulgari’s classic aesthetic style has become the main concept of this project in the discussion between developer and Mind Design teams.
Bulgari’s history of nearly 137 years has not only witnessed the evolution of the Italian classical culture, but also constituted an important chapter in the development history of the world’s top jewelry art. Its distinctive aesthetic style also forms a model of interior design in the world.
The project belongs to the Vanke Metropolis series. The Mind Design team was attracted by Bulgari when designers were looking for a new story line and the most moving elements during planning the project, in addition to the Metropolis style at which they are good.
Bulgari itself is a classic of luxury goods in the world. Its color tone is elegant, deep and warm, and thus quite suitable for Yinchuan’s tone and weather. Therefore, the whole project is full of noble and luxurious temperament, from the inner courtyard to the landscape and interior.
The design team has upgraded the original Metropolis style, so that it is of more dignity, topicality and theme-orientation, which fill the gap of local architectural styles in Yinchuan and also wins good response from consumers.
The designers cleverly combined classical and modern elements by integrating the iconic aesthetic features of Bulgari into minimalism through the collision of black and other colors, and meanwhile reinterpreted the unique elegance and nobility of the space by combining the design language of the building itself.
With the increasing scale of the business district around the Metropolis project, there will be more and more catering space. The developer and Mind Design teams intended to provide a different dining space with better hardware and more privacy, so as to provide owners another choice for more convenient private banquets. Considering the characteristics of local halal food in Yinchuan, the designers created many professional kitchen configurations and design elements.
By breaking the whole into parts and assembling parts into the whole, the designers made compound and diverse functional planning for rich service scenarios. Yinchuan Vanke Metropolis combined those supporting facilities above and below ground to create an eternal urban classic project with its experiential sales center, super avant-garde life perspective, ultimate color aesthetics, and international viewpoint.

JUDE LAW, FIFTY, ARCHBISHOP DE MEDICI. ❝ ⤚⟶ EUROPE, 1458. thanks is given by the DUCHY OF FLORENCE, ARCHBISHOP GIANCARLO DI GIAN GASTONE DE’ MEDICI, from FLORENCE. they are at best CHARMING, and at their worst IMPIOUS. whilst abroad, their ambition is to REAP EVER MORE GREATER LUXURIES FOR HIMSELF. HE seems to remind everyone of JUDE LAW & DESIRES BOTH HERETICAL AND UNHOLY : THE SONG OF SOLOMON SPILLING FORTH FROM ONE’S LIPS WHILST IN THE THROES OF PASSION ; INTELLECTUALISM SOUGHT FOR HEDONISM’S SAKE : ANTIQUATED TEXTS SMUGGLED FROM THE CRUMBLING REMNANTS OF ANCIENT ROMAN VILLAS AND DISPLAYED TO EXPECTED LOOKS OF AWE ; & HOLINESS FOUND, HOLINESS LOST, HOLINESS REVERED : A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT SHINING THROUGH HIGH-VAULTED ARCHES. ❞
Tumblr media
introduction
Provide a blurb introducing your character generally. This should include an overview of strengths, weaknesses, aspirations, and set backs.
It has been once said by the Lord: be ye like children, for ye to enter the Kingdom of God. Capricious, selfish, absorbed only by thoughts of himself, petty, and whimsical, the Archbishop de’ Medici does not assume the dignity of his station as a member of the Church but he does assume all the qualities of a child in him, and that makes him saved by default.
His theology is quaint, bordering on unorthodox, and it’s almost tempting to call him out for heresies but he knows too much about Scripture and can run circles around any fellow servant of Christ, much more the ordinary layman. He’s either mystical or absolutely canonical: at a certain point in theology, everything becomes one and the same. Give him time, and he can justify anything—the cruellest of acts as well as the most compassionate acts of goodwill and charity—with verses pulled from the Holy Book and the most seraphic smile on his face, almost as if his lips are intoning a blessing. He’s a Devil’s advocate in perhaps more ways than one, the destruction of Rome entire as one itinerant preacher once called him, and yet he luxuriates on wealth on top of the social pyramid, secure in his position and backed by the splendorous wealth made available by his family’s support.
Yet despite all this, despite possessing all the qualities of a man who could be—intelligent, charming, sociable, and ambitious—Giancarlo ended up being the man who isn’t, by some strange (perhaps cruel) twist of fate. With his dubious origins erasing any hope for a cardinalate, much less a chance for the Throne of St. Peter, he languishes in his role as a mere archbishop. As the years pass, he has turned bitter, cruel, recalcitrant—for what does a child do when they are given what they want?
They throw a tantrum.
What are some potential plotlines you are interested in pursuing?
I’ve inserted the little nuggets of the plotlines I plan to pursue on the blurb but to expand on it:
First is I am definitely very interested in making him a Cardinal and that is very much a thing he also wants for himself, even as much as he denies it and says he never wanted it anyway. It’s a way for him to rationalise the fact that, strictly speaking, his life didn’t go the way he wanted it to go, and so he subsists on the lie that his life (as it is right now) was what he always wanted—but ultimately, I do think that he’s still on the lookout for any opportunity to finally have the red robes of a cardinal.
Second is the state of Florence and of Italy as a whole. The blemish of the riots on the Florentines’ reputation is something that must be rectified—not even because someone died (after all, very many people die everyday) but because it sends the message that they are unable to control their own people. The Church as an institution that does much works of charity can be used to pacify the rebellious masses and perhaps turn them into the better angels that they haven’t been before. Meanwhile, Italy as a whole concerns him because they are still, ultimately, disparate nation-states with differing goals and ambitions. In a world filled with empires and hegemons, Giancarlo realises that the Italian peoples must unite—far better that it be headed, of course, by the Church or by Florence, but unity itself is non-negotiable. If the Italians do not want to be swallowed up by their neighbours, they must pool together their resources and make a stand for their existence.
Thirdly is the option of interfaith dialogue. Giancarlo is by no means perfect, but I do imagine he’s a touch more tolerant than most holy men are. He’s less a crusader and more of a diplomat, far too disillusioned to really believe in any cause of holy war. Entrenched in cynicism—usually a character flaw—he’s cognisant enough of the fact that humans are going to be shitty one way or another, and religion has almost no bearing on whether one is a good person or not. As such, I do think he has a lot of plotting potential for those characters following a different faith, and it’s fun to see how that might all play out.
three bullet-points.
Giancarlo di Gian Gastone de’ Medici is born a stain of shame. Birthed by a servant-girl and the man from whom his name marks out as his progenitor, he is kept by his father as a spare heir—only to be tossed away when a legitimate one finally comes. In this act, his father has taught him the harsh realities of life: one minute, you can have everything in front of you; the next, it all comes crashing down with nothing to show for it. He is left with no security save that which his father carved out for him: mastery of an abbey at twelve years of age and, from there, the religious life. There was nothing else for him. There is nothing else to him.
Giancarlo takes to the intellectual and monastic life quite quickly. His learning under humanist tutors in the household of his father has enabled him to take quickly to reading dense texts that speak of grand contexts. It helps that he is good with languages, and that he is friendly to everyone he meets. How bright his career would be, some would say, before adding: if only he wasn’t illegitimate. And so that stain of shame that adorned the Medici family history now mars his own future: he was always going to be a mistake, and the world will never let him forget it.
He is, by all accounts, a very disenchanted man who works himself through a façade of mustered charm gathered from who-knows-where with his mind an utter repository of Scripture and theological concepts. He can quote from Papal Bulls enacted centuries ago as easily as if they had been dictated to him just that moment; yet he always says it so drily that you’d think he’s mocking the words he’s citing. He’s in the habit of mentioning what kind of sins one is doing but always concludes it with a small note of how God is a forgiving God. He delights in the company of the wicked and the infamous; truly good people disgust him. He thinks God is present more in ugliness than any kind of beauty exemplified in art and song, and that He is dirt-covered, bloody and bruised, made with mulch and rot and diseased flesh. VICES : everything
VIRTUES : knowledge can be and is a virtue but not with giancarlo, babyyyyy
FACECLAIM : jude law
HEIGHT : 6′1″ or 1.85m
RECOGNISABLE FEATURES : kindly-seeming blue eyes that speaks to unfathomable depths — look too closely, and you just might find yourself falling in them; an ever-present smile that can turn earnest or mocking depending on the conversation; a smug demeanour that you can’t help but feel that he thinks he knows better than you
REPUTATION IN PORTUGAL :  a famed master theologian but also a widely known libertine, giancarlo both attracts and repulses the whole of christendom with his easy smiles, his kindly-looking blue eyes, and the power of the storied lineage that has produced him. for all those who’ve had the chance to coalesce in rome—or perhaps even the italian peninsula—his name will revoke memories of scandalised whispers erupting from people huddled in corners as soon as they see him make entry into a room. portugal as of yet is a new frontier, not for reasons of lack of opportunity but due to lack of interest. after all, why stray from that eternal city whose glory is sung in ancient ballads and whose place in the world is the envy of millions? now that he is here, however, he is more than eager to make his mark.
WANTED CONNECTIONS :
i sought whom my soul loves — were giancarlo any other man, they could have been together, a couple enjoined in the warm embrace of love and unity; yet, alas, the Church has bound giancarlo to herself, and he is a weak and foolish man who cannot find himself able to stand up to anybody. ever since then, their meetings have been few and far between—but no less precious to giancarlo, no less treasured, no less sought for.  :::  (  open to anyone, preferably female but any gender can technically work !  )
a young deer on the mountains of Bether — arcadian idyll had been the theme of their shared years, wild and wandering, when responsibility had been a far off concept that seemed as foreign as greying hair and the yoke of adulthood. they frolicked in sun-kissed green-topped hills and ran as carefree as the wind. now they are old, both with their respective offices, and there is nothing else to them save nostalgia over lost innocence—if they had innocence at all.  :::  ( open to anyone of the same age range as giancarlo !  )
beautiful as the moon, clear as the sun —  a look at them and they’re like fourteen again, dumbstruck and awed, ashamed of his own lowly station and the stain of his origins—yet now they are old, and they have significantly more resources available to them now than they had before. giancarlo has always loved what he has thought is lacking within himself; he has always sought the true, the good, and the beautiful. he deludes himself into thinking he’s found it in god, but he is about to discover he’s wrong.  :::  ( open to anyone !  )
with my royal people’s chariots — people have the propensity to think that giancarlo’s last name and relative wealth and status makes him the gatekeeper to the pope’s favour. he does not think himself as holding the keys to anything, but he lets other people do—mainly because it affords him the simulation of power the likes of which he only imagined as a child. of course, there is no real backing to the promises he says he’ll fulfil for them, but it is a merry show nonetheless and a piece of theatre that giancarlo’s keen to continue in lisboa.  :::  ( open to anyone who’s looking to curry favour with the pope !  )
you who dwell in the gardens — there are many blooms in the garden of God’s creation and it is not a stretch to say giancarlo is absolutely besotted with the idea of experiencing all of them. this meet in lisbon might prove to be a more fortuitous moot than the one in florence, and he is always keen to start dialogue with any and all those who would like to exchange knowledge for knowledge’s sake, even those that the rest of christendom would not welcome.  :::  ( open to non-christian characters !  )
the shadows flee away — giancarlo isn’t known for moderation and temperance; he has always been one driven to excess, and he has never toned down his appetites for the sake of any cause or person. he is a flit of a thing, a butterfly eager to sap the nectar out of any willing flower before moving to the next, willing to spill honey-laced words out of cherubic lips if that is what it took to mark one as his next conquest. in this, he has doubtless transgressed against many, and there are some whose memories run long and whose desire for correction would cover even those who are consecrated to God.  :::  ( open to anyone !  )

Rome 1991
Host: Italy Participants: 22 Voting method: 12-point system (juries only) Winner: Carola – Fångad av en stormvind Country: Sweden Language: Swedish Points: 146 (57.9% of highest score possible) General Overview: The 1991 contest is infamous for its unprofessional hosting. It’s hilarious but also a headache. Italy's two winners – Gigliola Cinquetti and Toto Cutugno – were selected as presenters. The pair spoke exclusively in Italian, and they are extremely talkative. Toto in particular. He also struggles with pronouncing foreign artists names and song titles. Consequently, the show feels so dragged out - from the opening, to the song introductions, to the vote reveal.  Speaking of the vote reveal, what a hot mess that is. The camera hardly ever shows the scoreboard, so it's difficult to keep track. Toto and Gigliola repeat every vote in 3 languages (English, French and Italian) - I hate when they do this. It does not go smoothly. The pair frequently state the incorrect country or number. Toto continually cuts off the correspondents to engage in small talk. And the presenters are unhelpful when there's issues contacting Turkey. That whole segment is painful. The scrutineer was visibly frustrated. It's a shame because the 1991 jury vote is excitingly erratic. The top 5 were tight all night, while Malta became a random dark horse. And there was a tie for first place. Sweden and France both stood at 146 points after all 22 countries voted. But unlike 1969, the organizers had instituted a tie-breaker – the most 12's/10's. Which gave the victory to Sweden. If the current tie-breaker rules applied (the most countries), then France would have won. Personally, I prefer the current one because it values a broader range of support. It's funny though because I love Sweden's and France's songs equally. This year's stage is sufficiently roomy, but the background decor is very Italian. The show opens with a music video from Sara Carlson, followed by Toto and Gigliola reprising their winning songs. The postcards involve the respective artists singing famous Italian songs in Italian. Which is daring, since I assume most of them aren't fluent in the language. And the interval stars Arturo Brachetti, who quickly changes costumes several times. Much of it hasn’t aged well. The Netherlands miss 1991 due to a national holiday, which allows Malta to rejoin after a 16-year hiatus. Also, they're now allowed to sing in English. The country competed thrice in the 70′s with mediocre results. Conversely, 1991 is the last time Yugoslavia competes as a whole. They appear one final time in 1992, but only Serbia & Montenegro remain in the union by that point. 1991 is one of the most uneven years. Half of the songs are great, and the other half are extremely boring. It's another ballad-heavy year too. Sidenote: this is the first time I've noticed audience members waving flags. The modern era is inching closer.
Yugoslavia: Baby Doll - Brazil
We kick things off with some Eurovision kitsch that completely flopped. The song aims for a sunny Brazilian breach atmosphere, while Baby Doll is flirtatious, and the dancer wearing purple is delightful. But her styling is tacky, and she gives the song a joke-y tone. The lyrics are silly too, with her listing country names, the "cha cha cha" line, and the "šta, šta, šta" bit. Plus plenty of "lalala"s. The pre-chorus build-up is good though. And this entry is still fun. Iceland: Stefán & Eyfi - Draumur um Nínu An uplifting power ballad that goes absolutely nowhere. I like the piano at the beginning. But after that, I feel like I keep waiting for a climax that never comes. The chorus doesn't give me that. And the "Er ég vakna – Nína..." post-chorus is just nothing. In the song, the male duet cherishes their dreams of Nina. She's gone forever but she still exists in their dreams. One of them also wears a headband. Malta: Georgina & Paul Giordimaina - Could It Be WTF at this reaching 6th place. Were juries *that* hyped about Malta's return? The song is so plain and boring. “Could It Be” is an adult contemporary duet ballad, where Georgina and Paul discuss the status of their relationship. There's honest awareness in the lyrics, and a down-to-Earth appeal. But the chorus does nothing for me. And it just lacks emotion or chemistry? Greece: Sophia Vossou - I anixi This sounds like a movie score. The orchestra is SO atmospheric – it completely consumes the surroundings. It gives the vibe of becoming one with nature. The verses are supernatural and powerful in a beautiful way, especially with Sophia's voice. I love the descending bits. Meanwhile the chorus switches to triumphant elevation with jabbing strings. The lyrics describe the explosiveness at the dawn of a new relationship. However, that botched sax solo is rough. It probably cost her some points. Switzerland: Sandra Simó - Canzone per te A dreamy ballad that's well-performed. Sandra's vocal tone is warm and encouraging. I love the vibe that the vocals and instrumental create in the verses, but the bland chorus is a letdown. I don't like how that nice vibe stops during the chorus. In the song, she describes the catharsis of channeling her feelings of heartbreak into a song. Austria: Thomas Forstner - Venedig im Regen Austria returns to familiar territory: dead last. With nul points this time. The song is about meeting a girl in the Venetian rain. Which seems like pandering to the host country. This is such a dull, uninteresting, and ordinary ballad. And a very forgettable entry. Luxembourg: Sarah Bray - Un baiser volé The verses have a fairytale-like instrumental. But that chorus is so dreary, lethargic and lifeless. She sounds like she's falling asleep. There's no energy. The drums turn the chorus bland as well. Once again the chorus gets rid of the verses' vibe. The lyrics state that love (or a “stolen kiss”) can brighten up the world. The orchestra makes a mistake during this one too (that stray guitar note). Sweden: Carola - Fångad av en stormvind (winner review below) France: Amina - C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison I can't imagine how it felt to lose on a tie-breaker. So, France is the runner-up in back-to-back contests. And both of those entries were forward-thinking for Eurovision at the time. This New Age genre will take over the contest pretty soon. The song's atmosphere is just magical and mystical. The instrumental stays relaxed, along with Amina's soothing vocals. While the vocal chanting parts stick out in a good way, and I love how she builds into them. There's also enigmatic lyrics and an accordion break. Turkey: İzel Çeliköz, Reyhan Karaca & Can Uğurluer - İki Dakika Turkey brings a feelgood and buoyant song with silly choreo; especially that triple bend-over bit. There's also a dance break! The choreo is amusing though, and the bend-overs match how that part of the chorus shakes downwards. It's just a fun and catchy song. Their happiness is inviting. The chorus is odd in a good way. And I like the horns in that chorus too. The lyrics advises living in the moment.  Ireland: Kim Jackson - Could It Be That I'm In Love This is nothing new coming from Ireland. It's a humble and down-to-Earth ballad. But the instrumental and vocals are nice. It's an easy song to listen to. The chorus is too wordy though. In the song, Kim is confused and self-analyzes what her feelings mean. That voice crack probably cost her some points. Portugal: Dulce Pontes - Lusitana paixão Dulce offers her opinion on fado music, which is a Portuguese genre of longing. It's a passionate vocal ballad with an impactful chorus. Her strong voice is why I love this. And it became one of Portugal's best placings at the time.  Denmark: Anders Frandsen - Lige der hvor hjertet slår Denmark's "jolly song era" is officially over, and instead they send a forgettable ballad... which puts them in the bottom 5. The verses are so boring. And while the chorus does have a melody, it's not one that I care about. It's just a very bland song where nothing interesting happens. Norway: Just 4 Fun - Mrs. Thompson The band recounts the story of Mrs. Thompson – an overworked, ordinary mother, whom they hail as an unrecognized hero. It's a celebratory performance, where the group emits positive, uplifting energy on stage. There's even a (cringe) air guitar moment. Musically though, the song is just 'whatever'. The pre-chorus is the best part, and the horns are also a highlight. But the chorus is kinda weak. And the instrumental never switches up. Israel: Duo Datz - Kan Israel brings traditional sounds and rehearsed body movements, as this country often does. In the song, Duo Datz explain why they call this place their home. Meanwhile the bouncy rhythm is infectious and it conveys optimism. The chorus is incredibly catchy too, with the "KAN!..." pause, and the ensuing up-and-down melody. The stomping beat in the verses create anticipation. And the flute is a highlight too. Finland: Kaija Kärkinen - Hullu yö That electric guitar intro is fire! The verses, by contrast, are pensive - with a restricted instrumental and a beautiful vocal. While the chorus turns fiery with a melody that packs a punch. Finland is so good in odd-numbered years lol. In the song, Kaija partakes in a one night stand, but now she craves more from this person. Germany: Atlantis 2000 - Dieser Traum darf niemals sterben Germany's first entry since reunification became official. This dorky sextet proclaims that the dream of a brighter future “must never die”. The message is sooo obvious. It's exactly what I expected Germany to sing about in 1991. And it's presented in such an earnest way that it just doesn't do anything for me. Also, the arrangement is extremely dull. No trumpet solo can save this.  Belgium: Clouseau - Geef het op Belgium selects rock band Clouseau, who have amassed several hits in the Belgian and Dutch charts. In “Geef het op”, the lead singer asks his ex to give up her new relationship and return to him. Ick. The song is reminiscent of '60s garage rock though. The orchestral swirls before the chorus, the stomping chorus and bridge, and the "Geef het op x3" hook make this into a catchy song. The youthful energy makes it work. Spain: Sergio Dalma - Bailar pegados Sergio delivers a romantic and charming performance. He puts so much charisma and passion into this. It's incredible. While the lyrics are quite seductive. In a year of so many boring male ballads, this one has what the others are missing. I like the clarinet at the start. And how his voice loses restraint in the latter half. There isn't really a chorus, the song just gradually builds. United Kingdom: Samantha Janus - A Message to Your Heart The UK delivers a socially conscious message two years in a row. And both are executed poorly. Samantha guilts and shames half the world for being well-off, while the other half lives in poverty. The lyrics are cynical, asking how we live with ourselves, not taking effective action. I feel like I'm being lectured to. But the chorus is begrudgingly catchy. And the verses have a sense of urgency. Cyprus: Elena Patroklou - SOS Elena fights for environmental protection. The lyrics are blatant in holding humanity responsible for this problem. Her voice is beautiful in the verses (the restrained orchestra highlights this), but it's annoying during the “SOS, SOS, SOS” refrain. Yet again, a nice vibe is ruined by the chorus. That chorus speeds up halfway, but it's very 'blah' and dreary. Italy: Peppino di Capri - Comme è ddoce 'o mare Italy sings in Neapolitan for a change. Their host entry is such a stereotypical and old-fashioned Italian ballad, but Peppino's performance is romantic. It's not necessarily my thing - it's not catchy, but I respect it. It's classy. And the instrumental takes a journey. The Winner: Sweden's third win! Carola is a recurring Melodifestivalen participant, even entering as recently as 2008. She won the national final three times in three different decades (1983, 1991 and 2006). She appears in both Eurovision contests hosted by Sweden in the 2010's. And she won Eurovision altogether in 1991! The performance of “Fångad av en stormvind” (“Captured By A Stormwind”) is famous for introducing the wind machine into Eurovision. Appropriately, the lyrics compare love's intensity to being caught in a windstorm. The metaphors are cheesy, but Carola sounds convincingly smitten. “Fångad av en stormvind” is just a burst of pure joy. The song is a highly energetic, insanely catchy BOP. And it sounds current for 1991. The production is similar to other pop hits charting at the time. Meanwhile, the chereo routine is slick - the two male backing dancers jump, spin and flail all over the stage. The key change is effective. And Carola has a good voice. The overall performance is top tier. Apparently there was an audio glitch, and the studio audience couldn't hear part of the performance. There was no issue in the broadcast, though. Verdict: "S” tier. My points go to.... 01. France: Amina - C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison 02. Greece: Sophia Vossou - I anixi 03. Sweden: Carola - Fångad av en stormvind 04. Israel: Duo Datz - Kan 05. Finland: Kaija Kärkinen - Hullu yö 06. Spain: Sergio Dalma - Bailar pegados 07. Portugal: Dulce Pontes - Lusitana paixão 08. Turkey: İzel Çeliköz, Reyhan Karaca & Can Uğurluer - İki Dakika 09. Belgium: Clouseau - Geef het op 10. Yugoslavia: Baby Doll - Brazil 11. Italy: Peppino di Capri - Comme è ddoce 'o mare 12. Switzerland: Sandra Simó - Canzone per te 13. Ireland: Kim Jackson - Could It Be That I'm In Love 14. Norway: Just 4 Fun - Mrs. Thompson 15. United Kingdom: Samantha Janus - A Message to Your Heart 16. Iceland: Stefán & Eyfi - Nína 17. Cyrus: Elena Patroklou - SOS 18. Denmark: Anders Frandsen - Lige der hvor hjertet slår 19. My experience in Italy for Study Abroad was the best part of my journey in my life. I had never been out of the country before, and I'm glad I got to see Italy. My ancestors are from Sicily, Italy. Unfortunately, I did not get to see Sicily while I was there. However, I plan to come back someday to make sure I have a chance to see Sicily. I'm still overwhelmed by Italy because there are so many places to see. Our study abroad program was located in Siena, Italy. While we were there, all of Europe was experiencing a heatwave! It was difficult because several buildings in Siena including the apartments, the school, some restaurants, etc. do not have the air conditioning because it is not common in Europe.

Cinque Terre: Corniglia
While we were in Siena, Italy, for our Study Abroad, we got to meet many wonderful people in the program. During the program, we learned LIS, Italian Written Language, and Italian Deaf Culture and History. There were 44 students from different schools like Gallaudet University, University of Arizona, University of Iowa, Rochester Institute of Technology, and so many more! One day, we went together as a group from the program and attended the National Deaf Organization in Italy and we got a chance to meet Deaf people outside the program. Since we already had learned a lot of LIS (Italian Sign Language), we were all able to communicate using LIS! It was my favorite part of that gathering!

Siena, Italy: Duomo di Siena
On the weekends, during our free time, we visited Milan, Cinque Terre, Rome, and Vatican City. There are so many memories to remember because every single day being in Italy gave me the best feeling ever. In Milan, they have the world's fifth-biggest Duomo (Church). Cinque Terre is made up of five towns: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso with colorful building and beautiful sightseeing ocean! Rome has so many places to see like the Colosseum, Palatine, Arch of Constantine, and  a Deaf owned restaurant called One Sense. One Sense has waiters who were able to communicate using LIS or International Sign and it was so wonderful to have this communication access! We also saw the world’s largest Duomo called the St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City! For Deaf people, we received free entrance to many places we visited, such as duomos, museums, sightseeing of buildings or towers and anything like that. For example, in Rome, we received free entrance to go up the Colosseum instead of waiting in line.

Siena, Italy: Palio di Siena - Piazza di Campo
My favorite part of my time in Italy was seeing the Palio race on the Piazza di Campo. It’s a tradition in Siena that has carried on since 1701. There are many groups of people called contrades and every year there are two races. The mayor will draw the names and pick 10 contrades to represent out of 17 contrades. Everyone shows up to make it a  full house and it was so surreal seeing a piece of the real culture of Italy and seeing a tradition that happens every year. The contrade that wins would celebrate all night, and the rest of contrades will cry and look heartbroken. This competition is a big deal for the people of Italy.

After seeing so many beautiful places I realize that there are still a lot of places to see in Italy! The Siena Deaf Studies program includes students who are able to communicate using ASL and LIS. It was the best feeling by far because the attitude was always “the more, the merrier.” My experience participating in the Siena Deaf Studies program through Gallaudet was excellent and I encourage everyone to apply this amazing opportunity!

Top 10 Tips When Playing Casino Online
korean casino site Japan looked established to beat Australia until a magnificent collapse six minutes from time. Shunsuke Nakamura gave Japan the direct after 26 minutes but two objectives from Everton's Tim Cahill following 84 and 89 minutes and a stoppage time goal from John Aloisi gifted the thirteen/10 Socceroos an not likely victory. 11. The globe's top 10 emerging markets according to their stock marketplace worth and their nationwide financial debt are: Taiwan, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, Brazil, India, Turkey, korean casino, China and Russia. Sure life is about function, but it's also about having a great time. My initial yr in Prague in 2002 was probably one of the most enjoyable many years of my lifestyle. The metropolis has a great nightlife and if you are into remaining up late and getting Hangoveresque experiences, then Prague is a great stomping floor for you. Life can't and isn't usually about partying and getting a great time, but to say this isn't a furthermore to the city would be dishonest.
New Zealand appears in more than their head in Globe Cup odds but at minimum they perform in a team that looks to be low scoring. Group F prefers Italy but the Italian squad is not complete of efficient scorers. This is Slovakia's 1st World Cup and Paraguay will not score a ton of objectives. New Zealand is not extremely great korean casino site but they might get lucky and squeak out a objective in Team F and if they do, they may decide who moves ahead. In purchase to be taken seriously, you have to see the globe via the Financial and Monetary Lens. Keep in mind: Finance is the King anyplace on earth and the most essential player on board. People who don't comprehend Economics/Finance are people who don't comprehend how the world and their businesses function. And of course, you don't want to be component of this category! As a credible HR Professional, your goal is to be seen as an efficient Business Companion. This means becoming able of talking numbers and economy confidently with your bosses and anybody else.
