24-312 Interdependence
, Interdependence “the idea that everything is connected to and depends on every other thing” We take some much of our day-to-day lives for granted…never realizing how much is reliant on our interdependence. For instance, if we want to grocery shopping…well, we need a grocery store…someone else had to create that, which involved all kinds of construction people, equipment and supplies…all…

Finally done with this pinky-peach lady. I love what I did with her hair. I had to go back in with color pencil over the markers to darken the pink and peach colors.💖💖

Hi! Sorry if this has been asked before but I was just wondering what kind of traditional materials you use! ❤️ your trad pieces are always so delicious the colors are amazing
:D thank you!! So my traditional art is p much always acrylic + pencil combo 🫶
I usually, in the past, glued fabric onto a canvas ( so the paint absorbs better ) and then used liquitex and applebarrel to paint and blend and all that. But lately I’ve been really into just acrylic paint markers ( my fav brand is tooli art. They’re like. More finicky than posca if I’m being honest, but I’m fine with that cus the color range is MOUTH WATERING!!!! ) and then going ontop with pencil :)!

You know what time it is.
Tumblr media
This month's menagerie is a varied bunch: three 90s bugs in the usual assortment of colors, a few 90s black plastic critters (including that hilarious wiggly spider), a pair of tooly birds, and an interesting T-Rex: I've seen this mold in unpainted plastic, but not rubber, and the eyes are actually painted. Very nice.
Tumblr media
Here's a surprise: milk caps! Pogs (and their various imitators) were quite the hot item for a few years in the 90s, and here's a pile of no-name knockoffs. Amongst the sizeable stack of 8-ball art (a common theme, alongside "poison" and skulls), I landed a couple promotional caps from NASA, two faux-holo sci-fi characters, and a couple plastic slammers. I never played, but these things are a lot of fun with some poster putty and a little imagination.
Tumblr media
Peeps include two more heads, in bright banana yellow, two distinct quality levels of Gumby, Nega-Pokey, and a pair of vending machine keshi I can't for the life of me remember. I do know the chain dude has no corresponding MUSCLE release, and would therefore be far harder to research, and I feel lazy. They're both old favorites, though.
Tumblr media
Miscellaneous goods are a couple more spaceships (still only one blue, sadly), another few inches for the Madballs String, and Invisible Ink. Nothing new, but nothing bad either.
Tumblr media
Kicking it into high gear, Arts are extra nice. The Skull Pin (and Keychain) are from Zac's latest creation binge, and a fun extra thrown in with this month's boxes. We were only promised one, so I don't know if I just got lucky or what. Either way, these things are recycled plastic, and they glow in the dark! The pins have nice fancy closures, too. Very nice work.
The smilies are hybridized treasure trolls, without their hair. Apparently the final remains of a previous run. I might add some fur myself, I have plenty.
Tumblr media
And finally, I ordered this specifically, but it was in the box too, so meet Hanging Skeleton! Y'know what, mine's name is Oscar.
Oscar is also recycled GITD, and is just a comically large version of the classic jointed skeleton keychain, right down to the slightly oversized ball chain. Glows like a champ, by the way (same goes for the pins), but my blacklight is loaned out at the moment, so no money shot for you.
Well, that's the February box. Mine, anyway, they're randomized. And a big bony boi. Greasy Creeps has you covered at the shop either way.
Peace!

Paint Pen Testing
I’m working on a pretty comprehensive test of nontoxic acrylic paint markers. I could use your help!
See below for more information on what I’m testing, how I’m testing it and contribute to what I should do!
Brands I’m Testing
Below is a list of brands up for my comprehensive chopping block. They run the spectrum from expensive markers like Molotows down to extremely cheap generic brand names. Is there one I should try?
Posca Paint Markers
Molotow - One4All
Pebeo - Acrylic Marker
Montana - Marker Line
TOOLI-ART - Acrylic Pro Color Series
Pintar - Premium Acrylic Paint Pens
Artistro - Acrylic Paint Pens
Zieler - Acrylic Paint Marker Pens
I wont be doing brands with Xylene (See: Decocolor).
Testing Criteria
Here’s my metrics for testing. Anything I’m missing that you’d like to see?
Opacity Test
Price
Availability
Nib Durability
Ability to refill
Ability to mix your own
Color charts (complete)
General usability (doing big art pieces)
Compatibility with other brands
Ease of use
Let me know if you see anything missing.
Contribute
Last but not least, these things are expensive to do exhaustively. You can check out my Ko-fi if you’d like to help monetarily. But you don’t gotta. Reblogging to get more eyes and telling me some other things to look into can help, too!

I'm starting work on my sailor moon violin paint project. I need something to do to stay sane. I gotta fix the shape of the blue stars again ugh. So yeah, getting the first layer of color down so I can start to get the highlight color in there.
Dunno the source for the photo I'm using. If you do let me know.

24-263 Warmth
Warmth “a friendly and enthusiastic quality in someone or something” When I think of warmth I think of someone or something as inviting, welcoming, and a place of respite. Unless it’s genuinely expressed, it can come off as rehearsed, empty, and shallow. I’m blessed to have a couple of close friends who are the epitome of warmth. I always look forward to spending time with them. It’s like a…

This painting was done with acrylic paint markers by Uni Posca and Tooli-Art as well as traditional acrylic techniques. “Confetti Landscape with Birds” is painted on marine plywood and sealed with an exterior grade UV varnish. This image is available printed on household items and as prints in my Red Bubble shop @nocobirds

Painting Rocks – Best Supplies for Painting and Decorating Rocks
Painting rocks is easier than it looks and it’s also quite addicting once you get started. It can be difficult to figure out the best supplies and techniques so I thought I’d create a guide based on my experience. For years I sold my painted stones on Etsy, but now I prefer to share what I’ve learned so that others can enjoy painting rocks as much as I do. This post has a lot of great ways to get started painting rocks. You’ll also want to check out my Rock Art Handbook that’s available now on Amazon for Pre-Order.
You're reading: Painting Rocks – Best Supplies for Painting and Decorating Rocks
THE BEST ROCK PAINTING SUPPLIES (affiliate links are provided for your convenience)
1. ROCKS– The number one question I get is “where can I find smooth rocks.” Here are a few different places to find rocks, but first take a little walk around the neighborhood, you may by surprised what you find. Avoid buying rocks that have a wax film over them to make them shiny. This makes it difficult for paint or markers to adhere to the rock.
Amazon has some great rocks for painting:
Capcouriers white rocks
Capcouriers smooth rocks
Smooth rocks for painting
Landscaping supply stores, stone yards and stone depots often sell river rock rock in bulk. Make sure to bring a bucket!!
Home Depot and Lowes garden centers will often have smooth river rocks in the garden section.
Stores such as Michaels Craft Stores, Walmart and The Dollar Store often have smaller rocks available.
2. PAINT – The best paint to use on rocks is acrylic paint. See my recommendation below for my favorite brand.
Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint – Love this thick paint that’s very vibrant
Mont Marte Acrylic Paint
ARTEZA Acrylic Paint – this is a great option for a variety of colors.
Artecho Acrylic Paint
Martha Stewart Acrylic paint is by far my favorite acrylic paint to use on rocks. I’ve found that this brand is not only bright but the paints are thicker so they are easier to apply and require less coats. You can find it at Michaels craft stores.
Folk Art Multi-Purpose Acrylic Paints are another favorite. I love the bright colors and thick consistency. The paint goes on smooth.

3. BRUSHES – The key to painting details on your rocks is small brush sizes. Below are some of my favorites. You don’t need to spend a fortune on your brushes, the most important factor is keeping the brush size small.
I love this set of brushes. Even though they say they are for watercolors, I’ve found they are the best brushes for painting rocks with acrylic paint. I also usually have several of the 000 size brushes from the same brand always on hand.
Here’s another great set of watercolor brushes that has a variety of sizes perfect for painting details on your rocks.
4. MARKERS AND PENS – Another great option for decorating rocks, especially if you struggle with painting are paint pens and markers. Click here for a complete list of markers and pens for doodling on rocks along with tips and techniques. Below are just a few favorites.
Paint Markers – my absolutely favorite brand of paint markers are Posca Paint pens with extra fine pen tips. These paint markers also come in natural pastel colors as well. They are shown in the pic above.
Another great paint pen option are Tooli-Art Acrylic paint pens shown below for the Halloween rocks. They come in both extra-fine and medium tip.
I also really love these paint markers by Artistro. The fine tips make them wonderful for detailed drawings and doodles.
As you can see these Artistro paint markers are extremely vibrant as well!
Markers – If you want to doodle on your rocks using regular markers these Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens are my favorite. Shown in the pic below. You can see all the different ways I use them in this post. You will need to paint a white acrylic base on your stones if you are using these markers.
Pens for Outlining – For creating black outline around finished designs, I love these Micron Pens. I like having a variety of sizes for different thicknesses. You just need to be sure the paint is completely dry before using the pen or else you risk ruining the tip of your pen with paint.

Chalk markers are such a great option for rocks, especially when crafting with kids. Here are two great options Fun Chalk Liquid Chalk Markers and OOLY Chalkables Liquid Chalk Markers.  NOTE: For the Fun Chalk markers you will most likely need to paint a white acrylic base on your stone first, unless your rock is already a light color.
Chalk Crayons – These chalk crayons are another great option when doing rock crafts with kids.  You can use them to draw directly onto the rock. See the pic above for reference.
5. SEALANT – When it comes to sealing rocks I prefer to keep the matte natural look of the rock as I usually don’t cover the rock completely with paint. I mostly use this favorite spray sealant by Design Masters. This spray sealant will work no matter what you use to decorate rocks. And it will not smear your design as sometimes other sealants might. If you want a glass-like glossy finish, you will love this gloss spray sealant option!
OTHER SUPPLIES
You can read more about other supplies I love for painting rocks in this post about doodling on rocks and this post about creative ways to decorate rocks.
PREPPING ROCKS FOR PAINTING
Before you get started painting rocks you’re probably wondering if you need to do something to your rocks first to prep them. I’ve read lots of different techniques for prepping rocks but I’ve found that you really don’t need to do anything. For the thousands of rocks that I’ve painted I simply wash the rocks outside with a house and let them dry and I’ve never had any problems with decorating them using the supplies I prefer. It’s possible you may need to prep them differently if you are using different supplies. But isn’t it easier to keep it simple if you can!
