And it would cost anything and be easier to drive it is about 90 miles for someone in our sons waited it's about 80 miles you can't just switch the battery out but some people actually figure out how to do it and they install a different battery and they switch it out it's not really worth it for a son and it looks like it has a quick charge and they don't tell you that it is a quick charge it's a solid battery it's got an enclosure and it blows downwards it is a nice little ditty it's a decent little design the horse on George Washington's cart is one of his but it's like just a bit larger than a Shetland Pony and it was dense and charged up because it's a mutant too when you loved it running around towing them he felt great it's a little **** and he's like Kingsley when he's small kind of a lunatic tried to eat him a little bit he told him to calm down and get him some food like he's talking to our son and she had the same conversation with her horse and they tell them Don't do it are you getting in trouble and they'd stop and it said I'm hungry Mommy give me some food and they they would of course. But this is how it goes people think this is it and there's some things that might be but you can't afford it it costs as much as a regular motorcycle. These are real issues you cannot trust these guys you shouldn't leave it out in the sun or the weather and it would have to be left out there's a lot of issues and it's not too good the one that David used there's a one seater so we're thinking that someone might modify one of these to be a one seater which wouldn't make it much different and we've seen those around and they lengthen it and it goes faster and it's easier to drive it's still too small but it would be enclosed it really needs to be enclosed and once you modify it I guess it might not be worth that much and it's AEV and people don't like to buy them they're hard to sell it might be what it is.

What a Beautiful Wedding Ch. 4: The Shake Up

Summary: The group continues to try and free their friends.

As the shock wave rippled out, all the bubbles felt it. But only a couple were jolted from their haze. Dark in his bubble was mentally ripped out of the sitcom haze he was trapped in. Dream in his bubble froze and was almost tagged in the back with an arrow  as he came to. Ranboo let out a warbled hiss. Thomas stopped mid-conversation with Logan and Nico. And both Karl and Nate collapsed and held their heads right before the group showed up in their bubble.

Ranboo hissed and made little vwoop sounds as he felt like someone was trying to drive a spike through his head.

“Bossman?” Tubbo looked over from where he and Tommy were trying to build “the worst scarecrow ever” and Michael looked at him in concerned confusion. Ghost looked over from where he was with Tommy and Tubbo.

“I . . . we need . . . where’s Techno?” Ranboo looked around in distress. He’d been at a wedding and Techno had come to his rescue.

“Who’s Techno?” Tubbo asked in confusion before he blinked and looked around in disorientation. “Techno? Why . . .”

Tommy blinked, the haze lifting as he looked around. “The [BLEEP][1] are we?”

“Did somethin’ just [BLEEP] censor you?”[2] Tubbo gasped. “No! [BLEEP]! [BLEEP]! Bloody [BLEEP] [BLEEP]!”[3]

“Hah!” Tubbo looked around, trying to find a camera. “Got that one out, you American [BLEEP]![4]”

Shroud and Michael started giggling and Tommy looked down at Shroud in confusion.

“Umm, is that thing mine?” Tommy said as he walked over and Shroud held up his hands. He suddenly started looking more spider-like. He had two extra sets of arms and then he blinked and had eight eyes.

“Awww,” Tommy smiled fondly. “Imma[5] call you: Shroud. Shroud Innit.”

Shroud hung onto Tommy with inhuman strength as Tommy looked around, trying to find an exit but none of the doors actually worked and any “people” besides their little family had mysteriously disappeared. “We need ta[6] get outta[7] here.”

“Now, hold up,” Tubbo’s brain began turning. “Let’s think about this.”

“Think about what?” Tommy scoffed. “This is obviously Dream trying to control us again. You green teletubby [BLEEP][1]!”

“Yeah, but if it’s him, he’s done nothin’[8] ta[6] us,” Tubbo said and pulled a soda out of the mini fridge under the counter. He tapped the can a couple times before opening it. The can sounded like a soda can, the contents even tasted like the real thing. “We have free food, a roof o’er[9] our heads. How’s this any worse than what we had before?”

“Because it’s Dream,” Tommy spat. “Have you forgotten what he did ta[6] us? We need ta[6] escape while we have the chance.”

“We don’t need ta[6] do anything,” Tubbo told him firmly and picked Nichael up.

“It’s Dream!” Tommy yelled.

“Who cares?!” Tubbo shouted at them. “I don’t care if it’s Dream or the [BLEEP][10] space wizards who put us here. We’re safe.”

“Umm, maybe,” Ghostbur started, starting to float a bit and regain his ghostly pallor.

Ranboo was letting out nervous hisses as he approached cautiously. “Hey guys, maybe—”

“Ranboo, let’s go!” Tommy grabbed one of the slender teen’s arms and yanked him over.

“No!” Tubbo grabbed Ranboo’s other arm, yanking him back the other way.

“Guys, stop!” Ranboo yelled out and both the teens dropped his arms. “My head hurts.”

Tubbo inched closer and when Ranboo crouched down the shorter man lightly rested his forehead against Ranboo, their adopted son between them. Ranboo let out a sigh as his headache began to clear.

“Boo?” Tubbo urged gently, almost as quiet as a whisper, waiting until Ranboo opened his eyes to speak again. “Boo, we’re safe here.”

“Come on, Ranboo, we gotta[11] get out ‘a[12] here,” Tommy urged but when he went to grab him again the lanky teen uncoiled himself and stood up.

“I can’t leave Tubbo,” Ranboo decided.

Tubbo let out a hitched sigh of relief and Tommy had a look of betrayal on his face.

A look that quickly turned into anger.

“Fine! I’ll figure out what’s goin’[13] on here without yeh[14]!” Tommy spat and pulled away with Shroud.

“Tommy, wait,” Ghostbur called out as he followed them.

Tommy reared back to slam his body weight against the front door of the Bee ‘n Boo, prepared to destroy it, but right as his shoulder came into contact he felt something open and he and Shroud and Ghostbur were pulled somewhere else.

The door, closing behind them.

Tommy fell sideways into a bank of son, his and Shroud’s clothing turning from casual late summer wear into heavy fur-lined jackets and overcoats. The clothing was reminiscent of something from the early 1700’s.

Tommy quickly realized it was freezing cold.

Shroud began crying in fear and shock.

“Hey, buddy,” Tommy brought Shroud to his chest, wrapping his coat around him. So that Shroud was double layered.

“He okay?” Ghostbur asked in concern as he floated over.

“Yeah,” Tommy glared around, finding that Tubbo and Ranboo were nowhere to be seen. “He’s fine.”

The two looked over to see a well-worn trail cutting towards a town. They followed it to find a city that was nearly completely empty and as they walked in further they could hear a commotion in the distance.

The noise led them to a massive throng of people around an altar of black stone, raised high above the throng. Tommy shoved his way closer, which got him a fair bit of dirty looks as he got as close to the front as the crowd let him. When he couldn’t get any closer but was close enough to see figures behind a dark, almost sheer curtain he turned to look at the people next to him.

“What’s goin’[13] on?” Tommy demanded.

“The Emperor’s prince is about to be born,” one woman said in excitement. “Her lady will grace us with her presence.”

“Sara Jane’s baby, given to the Goddess for this most joyous occasion,” another woman looked like she was about to start chanting and singing and Tommy did not want to be here for it.

But then one of the figures behind the curtain got closer and the crowd began to get excited.

Tommy began to recognize the silhouette, or more importantly the dark wings behind the figure right before Philza emerged from the curtain.

“Hello everybody!” Phil called out as he parted the curtains. Instead of his green ensemble he was in frosty blues and perfectly whole and healthy wings fluttered out behind him. They twitched and gestured as Phil moved.

Techno was right behind him, but he looked more human and his mask was a large bone white boar skull. He was in a matching blue uniform and his red cape was much shorter.

The crowd went insane, cheering and calling out for Phil.

Philza motioned for the crowd to calm down and once it was quiet enough he used a horn to amplify his voice. “I would like ta thank everyone fer comin’ ta this most joyous occasion and fer the Borris family fer their most gracious gift. But my Lady an’ I would like yeh all to meet the newest member ‘a the royal family.”[16]

The talking began to surge back up before Phil took a knee, as a dark shadow of a woman expanded behind the curtains. She was huge and her face was further veiled by darkness.

“Mum?” Tommy froze in recognition. Ghostbur’s eyes wide and sad beside him.

The crowd rushed to kneel, even Ghostbur who seemed to be trying to follow the social cues around him.

But Tommy didn’t, he and Techno were the only people in attendance that didn’t take a knee. Tommy could feel Techno staring at him.

The silhouette erupted into smoke and Phil searched up to reach up to the altar where something had been set down on top of it. It was a squirming baby wrapped up in a yellow blanket.

“I am proud to announce the birth ‘a[12] my son: Imperial Prince Wilbur!” Phil held the bundled up baby boy up where the crowd could see him.

“Quiet on set!” Marc called out before a ripple washed over him and he froze looking around.

Before one of these meetings, Billy had attempted to tell his parents he was a superhero, however his parents had interpreted this as Billy coming out to them. Fortunately they were very happy for him and approving of his boyfriend. Remaining unaware of the boys superhero status, did not last long as the Super Skull blew up their house in order to kidnap Teddy. This ended in the death of Teddy’s mother and outed the boys as superheroes and the dangers of this. Teddy disappeared from the house, prompting the young avengers to attempt to resume him. Using the Avengers Fail-Safe program lead them to a superpowered juvenile detention facility where he met his reincarnated brother, Tommy Shepherd. His teammate, Cassie Lang had pointed out that they could have been twins. They rescued Teddy and discovered he and Tommy’s possible connections to the Scarlet Witch. “Now, would anyone other than the team sociopath care to weigh in?" He and the other young avengers had been arrested during the Civil War, he was forced to teleport the entire prisoner bus to safety. He met the runaways during the events of the civil war, attempting to help them, only ending up in a fight. Moments after the fight had ended, the two groups were attacked by a hypnotised Marvel Boy. BIlly was captured along with Hulkling, becoming prisoners of the Warden and was forced to watch his boyfriend be cut open for the Wardens sadistic pleasure, while he was cut off from hearing himself and unable to perform his spells as a downside. Forced to listen to the sick dialogue of the Warden. Once freed by Xavin of the runaways, Teddy had to stop Billy from killing the Warden“Gee, let me check my super hero manual. Oh, wait, it’s in my other tights”After this, Billy and the rest of the young avengers returned back to Cap’s team in the Civil war. He and Cloak were one of the first to go down, as Spider man and Iron man wanted to knock out the two heroes with Teleportation powers. Billy was captured and kept in Prison 42, but was later freed in the raid lead by Captain America. Billy decided to search for his possible past incarnations mother, Wanda, first going with Tommy to search Genosha and Wundagore and then the former home of the Scarlet witch but found nothing leading towards her whereabouts. Wiccan saved his boyfriend from being execution and rescued him from the Skrulls during secret invasion. "Okay, this completely violates Growing Man continuity." During a battle with the Son of the Serpent’s, Wiccan had an emotionally-driven power overload after his boyfriend’s life had been threatened. This power overload had disarmed a nuclear bomb and knocked out the remaining 20 members of the Sons of the Serpent. Due to this the avengers decided to keep him under supervision with Hulkling in a prison cell. Speed broke them out only minutes after they arrived. Magneto had come to meet the boys, resulting in a battle with the Young Avengers and Magento against the Avengers, saved only by Billy teleporting them away. They met Quicksilver and found out the Wanda he thought was his sister was nothing but a doombot. Billy snuck off on his own to Latveria. "Please don't worry. It's not like I'm planning to invade Latveria, confront Dr. Doom, and rescue the Scarlet Witch tonight. At least that's not the plan." There he found an amnesiac Wanda, who was engaged to Doctor Doom. Doom knew Billy was there and promptly stripped him of his powers and kept him hostage. The other young avengers, Magneto and Quicksilver attempted to rescue him but where kept up by the Avengers. Wanda rescued billy, trying to figure out her past, but they were met with the battle. Right before Logan could kill Billy, Iron lad came back to protect Billy. Iron lad took Wanda and the Young avengers to the past, meeting the Jack of hearts. This made Wanda start to remember who she was and her powers returned to her. With these powers back, she pulled the Young avengers, herself and Scott Lang to the present. Then, finally confirming that Wiccan and Speed were her sons. This lead them back too Doom's castle and Billy regaining his powers. The three magic uses intended to perform a ritual to undo the effects of M-Day, however interrupted by Patriot, left Doctor Doom with Wanda’s powers. “But you show up anyway. You don’t give up. You never ever give up.”Doom had plans to turn the world into a utopia that he ruled. The X-men, Avengers, and Young Avengers worked together to defeat him, and unfortunately losing Cassie during the fight. Doom lost his powers as he overloaded them. Iron lad tried to take Cassie into the future to save her life but Vision refuse to allow hiom, resulting in his destruction. Wiccan tried to stop Iron lad from leaving but Nate left, back into the time stream. After this Billy fell into a deep depression, the young avengers disbanded. Billy stayed in his room for seemily months until hulkling pulled him out of it with a proposal. Captain America called them to the Avengers mansion not long after, and officially made the young avengers official avengers. “Are we about to make out in Avengers Headquarters?” After a while in retirement, Billy had attempted to bring Teddy’s mother back to life, however he brought Mother into their world. Mother was an International Parasite. This was due to Loki’s influence, however, they did not know of this and decided to team up with Loki. Loki’s plan was to control Billy and use him once he reached his destined opimentence as the Demiurge. The couple, followed Loki and escaped Mother for the time being. Soon American Chavez, Kate and Noh-Varr joined them. As their deceased parents joined mother and started to attack them. Wiccan had been coerced into giving Loki his power temporarily, but God had just ran off with his powers, leaving him powerless. (Suicide TW START) Thanks to Loki pointing out that if Billy died, the curse would be lifted, Wiccan attempted to end his own life, only for Loki to stop him just in time. (Suicide TW END) Loki used Billy’s powers to boost the Young avengers abilities and returned them to Billy. They escaped mother and her army, and were told to stay away from any place their parents could be or were they had died. They decided to stick together and travel the universe.”I definitely need a new code name.”Loki trained Billy through the next few months, preparing him to fight against mother, wanting to regain their trust. Prodigy soon joined their team, informing them of Speed’s kidnapping. The young avengers accidently entered mothers dimension and were chased through it. Accidently leaving Prodigy and Hulkling behind. Which lead to Prodigy kissing Hulkling and that made Wiccan Big Mad >:( Finding Alternative, evil versions of themselves to distract mother with they escaped. Not long after, Hulkling left the team. Needing to figure out if he loved Billy or if it was a result of his magic, however during this time, Hulkling was tricked to return to New York and was threatened by Mother, threatening to release the evil young Avengers onto the world. ”Yeah, I’m quoting Project Runway” Meanwhile, Billy was still not strong enough to end Mother’s curse. Loki suggested that he would be able to if he was older. Though hesitant, Billy eventually aged Loki up into a Young adult. Loki’s plan did not work and had to revert to the second plan. Making Billy the Demiurge. Other teenage superheroes were called in to fight the evil young avengers so the Young Avengers could fight off Mother. Billy couldn’t tap into the Demiurge’s power, however once Teddy was able to comfort and repair they relationship, Billy met his full potential. Destroying Mother. ”I’m… Erm… I’m with someone! And gay! Did I not Indicate that?! very, very gay!” Billy and Teddy joined the New Avengers. Combining his powers with his other teammates the team managed to save Paris. Returning to Avengers Island, aliens kidnapped him and Hulkling. These aliens wanted to see if Hulkling was the chosen one and gained the Excelsior sword. The couple were taken to the aliens home, where Billy was possessed by an evil wizard named Moridun. The new avengers and the aliens tried to defeat Moridun, and seemingly did, not knowing that Wiccan has been possessed. BIlly decided to change his Code name to Demiurge, while Moridun began to infect his mind. ”Is that your way of asking if i’m single? Cause you’re really not my type.” Cut to the future, where the Demiurge had been killed from the inside out and had taken over his body. The future avengers decided to go back in time to stop the Demiurge before it got worse. King Hulk, aka Future Hulkling tried to convince present Hulkling to kill Demiurge. However Hulkling managed to get through to Billy and allowed him to defeat the evil wizard. Causing the future to change, to a more peaceful one. Billy, Teddy and Squirrel girl were kicked out of the new avengers as they opposed a decision made by aim to rescue and Shelter Rick Jones. The three remained together and soon recruited Hawkeye (Clint Barton), and helped to fight the Celestial Destructor along with the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. Soon they were requested to help AIM once again, freeing one of their agents.  “Doctor Doom knows who I am.” Billy and Teddy were lead to an empty apartment by Sunspot, only for the apartment to be given to them as a gift. They disbanded the New avengers to focus on their own lives.

Headcanons

Billy’s ears are a no-touch zone after the warden. He did get a piercing at one stage to combat this, which ultimately failed to help, and probably made it worse.If Billy can’t speak or hear himself it makes him really anxious Billy’s gay awakening was Captain America. He has never told Cap this and never will. Billy loves musical theatre, he saves up for months go to a show. He really likes Rent, Wicked, Heathers, My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, Avenue Q, Into the Woods, Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins, Evita, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Producers.  He has a collection of superhero stuff, and he constantly has to hide them whenever people come over, especially other superheroes He doesn’t eat pork. His family are part of Reform Judaism, and even though he’s not extremely religious (he said he was a Lapsed Jew) he still just chooses not to eat pork. Billy's birthday is February 9th. (He’s an Aquarius, if you’re curious.)All his clothes are geeky and nerdy and mostly graphic tees, his friends always tell him he has a terrible fashion sense. Billy will get iced tea whenever it’s available, especially raspberry or mango flavour. He is quite flexible, which, according to him helps with his magic. Billy has a lot of nightmares, done about Scarlet Witch, Mephisto, the war, what happened in the Cube, and his imprisonment. ‘Daddy Issues.’

Now, I’d always associated ‘Daddy Issues’ with approval-seeking behaviour, and projecting a desire for protection, but, during the recent therapy sessions, I did catch myself muttering ‘Thanks, Dad’ in relation to some of my behaviour patterns and coping mechanisms. Much like many of the screws in flat-pack furniture, my need-to-please is rattling around at the back of a drawer somewhere, that’ll be another reason I’m not particularly stable, my skewed coping mechanisms are the human equivalent of that cupboard door, where there’s a knack to opening and closing it.

I’d sent my Dad a message, about the Autism diagnosis, my family dynamic is odd, and my tangential risk-avoidance mechanism kicked in. I’d already messaged my Mum, then it dawned on me that my brother has contact with both of our parents. It was possible, but not particularly probable that my mother might mention the diagnosis to my brother, who might mention it to my father. Unacceptable risk of Dad turning up unannounced to check I hadn’t put my trousers on my head, or taken to swallowing live goldfish. I sent a very detailed message to Dad, and then a short-and-to-the-point message to my brother. ‘Heads up, Dad might ask you to check on me.’

I’d sort of anticipated a laborious hunt-and-peck reply from Dad, you know the ones, where the electronic ellipsis is on the screen for ages, so you expect War And Peace, but end up with ‘OK’, or that damned ‘thumb’ on Facebook. Nope, at some point between two and three yesterday afternoon, my Dad knocked on my door. He’s only known where I live for two out of the last twenty years. Less than ideal, the house is in that particular ‘Oh, Gods, did they take much?’ state, with my son back from uni. We have two of everything, because I set him up for everything, two sets of cutlery, two sets of crockery, two coffee presses, two pestle and mortars, you get the idea. I probably looked like I’d try to fight off the imaginary burglars, and that I might have been eating my dinner at the time, my top-jumper has dropped food, and all manner of dubious ‘matter’ on it, and I was in leggings and fake Ugg boots. Classy. 

“Right, I saw your message. What’s all this about? I didn’t read all of it.”

Hmm, if he’d read all of it, he’d know what it was about. People function in different ways. I have a tendency to type all salient points into a text-message, quite frequently with ‘Information only, no action required’, hit ‘send’ and it’s done. I’m a cow for ‘as per my previous’.  

“Come in, Dad.” (Mad panic, shifting my son’s disgusting desk, so Dad could sit down.)

“I will, just a minute.” (Dad goes back to his car, which is on the road at the end of my empty drive.) “I brought you these, a sort of early Christmas present.” ‘These’ were gin, my Dad can be the very worst Tommy-top-it,self-aggrandising, delusions of grandeur type, but, hey, free gin.

I explained the process that had led to the diagnosis, how I’d always found some ‘normal’ things incredibly difficult, but thought it was just me being useless, as everyone else seemed to cope, when I just wanted to hide behind the curtains. I elaborated, about how much conscious-cognitive effort that had taken, and that the brain injuries massively diminished my ability to filter/screen/mask. I was a little barbed with him when I mentioned that high-functioning females with ASD are often missed, because we’re conditioned differently, small, polite, quiet, ‘good girl’ material. It gets tricky here, because I remember being shouted at, and clouted for ‘having a long face’, and not ‘joining in’. I explained that I’d always found those things exceptionally difficult, and now, with the brain injuries, I wasn’t able to suppress the sensory overload. (See, I’m not ‘just’ being an arse when I decline invitations to family gatherings and such.)

Last year, or possibly the year before, I had a no-holds-barred conversation with  my Mother. We agreed that, with hindsight, we’d both made some dubious judgements, but that we couldn’t go back and change anything. I don’t physically look like either of my parents, but I AM similar in some behaviour-patterns and psychological aspects. The ‘keep going’ pit-pony element is from my mother, I used to run at everything full-tilt, now, I’m more of the tenacious water-on-a-rock. Princess-wing-it is entirely my father, he’s a chancer, and a grifter, lobbing himself head-first into things, without planning how to get out. Perfect storm, I have my father’s bravado, and my mother’s resilience. Both parents have acknowledged that they married too young, and didn’t have a clue what they were doing. In response to me making the same disclosure first. I ‘played house’ for a decade, then the metaphorical rot set in. Relentless, like my mother, and headstrong, like my father, I ‘kept trying’, to show everyone who said my marriage wouldn’t last that I was right, and they were wrong. There was an amusing incident with dad yesterday, where I word-slipped, the word I couldn’t remember was ‘rehabilitation’, I bumbled around the edged of it, recovery, repair, re-adjustment, dad couldn’t find the word, either. 

“That happens a lot, Dad, my mind knows the word, my brain can’t find it, and my mouth throws out the next-best-fit word, and hopes for the best.”

“Well, yes, I understand what you’re saying, and I know I get it wrong sometimes. Actually, no, I don’t.”

We spoke over each other, he said he was last-wrong in 1968, and I said I was wrong in 1983. Little-Miss-Can’t-Be-Wrong. 

I was their pancake-baby. You know how it goes, you make the batter, heat the pan, take one of the connectors off the battery in the smoke alarm, and make a start. It is a truth universally acknowledged that the first pancake is always shit, it’s the dog-pancake, it either burns because the pan is too hot, or soaks up oil like a disgusting gluten-sponge. Subsequent pancakes improve in quality, and, just as you’ve absolutely cracked it, you run out of batter. I was the dog-pancake, and my half-sister, 6ft tall, with a Masters Degree from Oxford, AND conventionally gorgeous was the last pancake from the batch, the perfect pancake. She’s about 24, world at her feet, considering continuing her studies with a doctorate. I have 10 GCSEs, and 4 A-levels, I am the bad pancake. 

I don’t have Daddy Issues in terms of seeking approval or affirmation from others. I don’t have Daddy Issues in terms of looking for a protector, I can catch my own spiders, and change my own light-bulbs and fuses. My Daddy Issues, like most things about me, are slightly skewed. As much as I was conditioned-female, as much as I spent most of my formative years being ‘nice’ and ‘quiet’, and ‘good’, because I was terrified of what would happen if I stepped out of line, I’m not scared of him any more, and I’d rather be productive than ‘nice.’ He’s 68, and he’s frail. I’m as tall as him, as age has taken its toll, I’m heavier than him by 2st, he’s not a physical threat to me, and I severed all emotional ties decades ago. He can’t intellectually intimidate me, because his ‘specialist subject’ is rabbits and chickens, and I have neither, that knowledge is not relevant to me. (I did have chickens, he rambled through an anecdote of one of the well-to-do-Oxford-parents seeking him out, to pose poultry predicaments. I imagine he was sought out as a novelty, he’s an odd looking object. The ‘very posh’ lady had sought him out, he rambled on a bit, before getting to the point, she’d bought eggs to hatch on eBay. “Really, that would never be my first choice, Dad.” “Precisely my point.” “You’d have no idea of the lineage, even if they did hatch, and survive the first 14 weeks, they’d likely keel over and die as soon as they reached adulthood.” He went a bit quiet, and then started telling me how my half-sister ‘worked the computer’ while my step-mother performed veterinary surgery.)

That man caused me physical, emotional, and psychological damage that I live with to this day. I was never-enough, and when I was-enough, I was a try-hard, doomed to fail when my incompetence was uncovered. He told me I was ugly, stupid, useless, but I don’t believe that any more. I don’t ‘need’ my Dad, I don’t want to ‘be’ my Dad, much less marry him. I spent far too many years trying to ‘beat’ him, but all that did was exacerbate the self-doubt he’d instilled in me.

He came from a different time, for all his personal issues, he tried, he had better results from his younger daughter than he did with me, there’s almost 20 years between the two of us. Not ‘better’ results, different ones. She’s amazing because she was a late, very-much-wanted child, with a stable mother, and a father who was at a different point in his life. I wish them all well, but I’m not part of their lives. Unless they’re bringing me gin.
