Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café brings Japan’s best creamery to Manila
The beloved Japanese brand’s first full-service restaurant in the entire world is found in Metro Manila!
Tumblr media
From their best-selling Hokkaido-style soft serve ice cream Cow Cow Ice to their creamy Japanese Cheese Cake and Cheese Cookies, Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory has evolved into a full-service café offering one-of-a-kind Japanese confections and savory creations that will leave you drooling.
Their flagship store at Ayala Malls Manila Bay officially opened to the public late December 2019, while their second store at Estancia at Capitol Commons in Pasig City opened only two weeks ago.
Pro-Tip: If you want to dine at their Estancia branch, make sure you reserve at least three days in advance if you want to dine on a weekend. Weekdays are still packed, but not as crazy as the weekend crowd, so it’s better to avoid peak hours.
Want to find out what makes people wait in line? Here are just some of the items you could expect when you visit the new Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café and their “Savory + Sweet” concept. Hint: These are my personal favorite. Their menu has so much more to offer!
SWEET
Signature Cow Cow Kitchen Milk Pie
Tumblr media
Their signature Cow Cow Kitchen Milk Pie is also a hit in Japan and it’s for good reason. These babies are the lovechild of a cream puff and a croissant, giving you the buttery flakiness of French-style pastry and the creamy filling of Hokkaido milk cream. It’s not too sweet and it’s really light, so be warned: It’s pretty easy to down a couple in just one seating. Milk Pies are P100 each.
Fluffy Japanese Pancakes
Tumblr media
Soufflé pancakes have been around for a while now, but Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café takes it to new heights by using Hokkaido cream. Their decadent toppings include Creme Brûlée, Berries, and Chocolate. The pancakes itself are soft and fluffy and not too sweet. Just take note that they make these fluffy pancakes from scratch, so be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for them to arrive at your table. Best to place your order in advance. Japanese Pancakes start at P210 to P315.
SAVORY
Sweet Corn Tempura
Tumblr media
It’s bite-sized chunks of sweet corn fritter served with truffle mayonnaise. It’s the perfect way to whet your appetite when you start your TMCF experience. Sweet Corn Tempura is P260, good for two people or one really hungry foodie.
Tamago Sliders
Tumblr media
Oh, Japan and their predilection for anything with eggs! Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory’s Tamago Slider features pillowy, creamy tamago (Japanese omelet) with Asiago cheese and truffle mayonnaise in between fluffy brioche buns. It’s served with their homemade potato chips for added flavor and texture. This for me is perfection. Each serving of Tamago Slider comes with two sandwiches for P335.
12-Hour Short Rib Sandwich
Tumblr media
It took 12 hours to make the short rib filling for this sandwich. If that’s not a labor of love, then I don’t know what is! The beef almost melts in your mouth, coating each tastebud with amazing flavors. The addition of tangy parsley aioli and pickled red cabbage gives the savory beef some much needed contrast. This sandwich costs P485 and comes with their house-made potato chips.
Hayashi Beef Omurice
Tumblr media
Again, the Japanese know what they’re doing when it comes to eggs. Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café took the classic Omurice (Japanese omelet rice) to the next level by adding a rich savory topping of Hayashi Beef on top of tomato rice pilaf. While this dish is delicious, I can’t help but imagine how good this would be if it were Japanese curry! Hayashi Beef Omurice will set you back P395 but it’s good for two people or one famished foodie.
For more updates, check out Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Philippines on Facebook and Instagram.
Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café is located at Ayala Malls Manila Bay (G/F Central Garden Ring Area) and Estancia at Capitol Commons (G/F East Wing). For the complete list of their mall stalls, click here.

A Pancake To Remember
A delightful breakfast for me would always comprise of garlic fried rice, a sunny side-up egg with runny yolk and crispy egg white edges, and beef tapa made from the leftover bistek tagalog from the night before. But, an even more special breakfast that would mean that something special is planned for the day comprise of a jiggly and puffy Maya pancakes, cheap maple syrup and hot Milo.
In our family, pancakes served for breakfast is a not-so-common occasion and that’s why it’s always looked forward to. Even though we could easily purchase the instant pancake mix from the nearby sari-sari store, for some strange reason, we never opted to buy it unless it is for something special. Pancakes have always been meaningful for me because of our weird tradition. My love for pancakes grew because of every sweet moment I remember of with my family. And, today, I had a taste of a mind-blowing pancake – one of the best, if not the best pancake there is.
Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory is known for its cheese cookies, heavenly cheesecakes, and milk ice cream. It has more than 10 branches all over the Metro. The dessert shop opened its first ever restaurant in the world (woah!) in Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Paranaque – Honestly, I was shocked when I learned this because I assumed that if it would open its first restaurant, then it must be in Japan. But hey, what is there to complain about, right? We just have to be thankful because now we get to be the first country to enjoy their delightful products in a cozy and cute restaurant.
Tumblr media
Because it’s my aunt’s birthday, we went to Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory in Ayala Malls Manila Bay to try their souffle pancakes, a special menu that you can only buy from their restaurant and not from their stalls. We tried their Crème Brulee Pancake and good heavens, I don’t mean to exaggerate, but I don’t think I would ever forget this because it was just too delicious. The waitress notified us at first that it would take 20 to 30 minutes before it is served. We didn’t mind waiting because we just knew how meticulous it is to create the perfect Japanese pancakes based from all the artful recipe videos that went viral in social media. When it was placed on our table, we immediately noticed its big serving. One serving has two pancakes on top of each other, sitting on a generous amount of milky sweet cream you can dip your pancakes in. It also has a toasted sugar flake on top of the pancakes, hence its name. It is also garnished with a peppermint leaf on top. I think that what sets this apart from other pancakes is its impeccable softness. It felt like slicing through a flan! Devouring this was a really sweet experience for me because I just knew that I was served with good food. There was actually a moment where we just pondered how lucky the Japanese must be because they have impeccable food.
Tumblr media
We also tried their milkshake. Both my aunt and I ordered the Maple Milkshake and it was just as good. The milkshake is sweet, but it is balanced with a bit of salty taste which makes it complementary for the sweetness of the pancakes. The milkshake has maple syrup and is topped with a thick cream – veeery rich and creamy and you definitely get a taste of the shop’s signature cow’s milk freshness. I also liked that it didn’t have lots of ice. I must advise though that you really should blend the cream with the milkshake because when I was finishing it up, I thought that there was still lots of milkshake left but it was only cream. I had to use a spoon because it can’t get through the paper straw as it was thick.
Tumblr media
Overall, dining at Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory is a wonderful treat because not only you get served with great food that is worth your every penny, but you also get to enjoy it in a cozy, serene, and cute restaurant that is instagrammable from every angle.

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory has finally landed in Penang now available in Gurney Plaza on the basement floor. You will get to try some samples of the cheese biscuit, they are expensive but REALLY GOOD. Please skip the soft serve and cream pie, not only they were expensive but seriously DISAPPOINTING. I would rather go for MCD ice cream or pay a little more to enjoy Godiva soft serve. #tokyomilkcheesefactory #tokyomilkcheese (at Gurney Plaza) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6IntI3Jyj1/?igshid=1ixk9m52z3gk

First Ever Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Cafe in the World Opens in Manila
Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory has always been a delightful sight ever since it arrived in the Philippines back in 2016. In fact, their Cow Cow Ice’s soft-serve Hokkaido milk ice cream has always been one of my favorite frozen desserts at the malls. So it was a wonderful surprise when I found out that they will be opening their very own restaurant, the first of its kind in the world, and it can be found right here in Metro Manila.
Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Café officially opened to the public last January 5, 2020, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City. This was followed by the opening of a second branch last January 17 at the Estancia Mall in Pasig. The Hungry Kat was invited to a private event preview at the Estancia Mall branch juyst a day before its grand opening. It was a treat to be one of the first to experience their elevated versions of Japanese comfort food and confections, most especially their signature Milk Pies from Cow Cow Kitchen which just by itself is worth the visit.
You can find the new restaurant at the ground floor of Estancia Mall’s new East Wing. Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory owner Mr. Seigo Kawagoe led the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with Mr. Bryan Tiu, founder and CEO of I-Foods Group, Inc., the company that brought Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory to the Philippines.
The branch can comfortably accommodate around 60 to 70 guests with its casual and relaxing design. This is a great place for friendly get-togethers or to spend quality family time with the kids.
The concept of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory is the “factory filled with creativity and innovation” to create sweets that no one has ever made, using carefully selected milk and high quality cheese, combined with ingredients from not only Japan, but also around the world. The cafe’s all-original dishes are created and prepared in Manila by their Japan-trained team of Filipino chefs and crew.
The signature Milk Pie (P100 per peice) from Cow Cow Kitchen is probably the most awaited item that Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Cafe is finally bringing to Manila. This crispy and flaky pastry is filled with luscious Hokkaido milk cream and there is simply nothing else like it. Imagine the perfect flakiness of a croissant combined with a rich and creamy Hokkaido milk filling. It may be a bit expensive but the heavenly experience is really worth it.
My favorite item at Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory before is actually their Cow Cow Ice (P150-Milk / P170-Cheese). This is made with fresh milk from Jersey cows in Hokkaido, Japan to get that authentic creamy taste. These are also available here at the cafe for dine-in or at their takeout counter, together with other favorites like the pillowy Japanese Cheese Cake made with Hokkaido cream and Cookies made with various world-class cheeses.
For today’s preview, we were given the opportunity to try a selection of their delightful offerings which have evolved from just pastries, cookies, and cheese cakes to a full-sized menu serving lunch, merienda, and dinner options.
We started with some appetizers like the House Potato Chips (P180) which is served with nori aoili dip. There’s also the Sweet Corn Tempura (P260) that comes with truffle mayonnaise. Both of these are great nibblers to share around the table while waiting for your main courses to arrive.
The Crispy Kani Salad (P360) is a healthier starter with its shaved cabbage, kani fries, edemame, caramelized walnuts, and citrus dressing. If you like soups, you can order the Sweet Corn Potage (P230) with its roasted corn, garlic croutons, and parsley.
There are several pasta options on the menu that all look interesting. I got to try the Ebiko Carbonara (P345) which is a beautifully-plated spaghetti cooked with bacon, nama cream, and topped with a soft-boiled egg. Make sure to break the egg first and mix it together with the pasta to create a creamy consistency.
They also have a couple of sandwiches like the Molten Mozzarella Hamburg (P440). This three-piece slider set has brioche buns together with beef patties, hamburg sauce, romaine, tomatoes and a serving of house chips.
I suggest trying the signature 12-Hour Short Rib Sandwich (P485) which packs a meatier punch. This sourdough loaf is filled with tender pulled beef ribs plus parsley aioli and pickled red cabbage, then served with house potato chips. The beef is cooked for 12 hours until it reaches a perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Filipinos love to eat everything with rice, so the Hayashi Beef Omurice (P395) is also a good option. This is a steaming Japanese omelet that is filled with tomato rice pilaf and served together with beef, onions, tomatoes, and egg.
The Pork Mille-fuille Furai (P390) also looks quite appetizing with its golden layers of crispy pork slices filled with mozzarella, fresh basil, tomato sauce, and truffled mash.
One dish I was surprised with was the Salmon Teriyaki Gratin (P485). I was expecting cooked salmon but this one actually comes with cured salmon slices, almost similar to salmon sashimi. It is topped with mozzarella cheese and sits on a bed of truffled mash and teriyaki sauce.
Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Cafe is also a great place to grab desserts, especially with its colorful Japanese pancakes. These fluffy pancakes come with your choice of toppings. Choose the Summer Berry Pancake (P315) which is topped with mixed berry compote and nama cream. Then there’s the Crème Brulle Pancake (P265) which comes with sweet salty Vanilla anglaise plus torched sugar to boot.
The Summer Berry Waffle (P265) is also a treat for kids and families alike with its mixed berry compote on top of warm waffles. This is also served with nama cream on the side. If you are looking for a fun and relaxing time with friends and family, Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory Cafe is a great place to enjoy Japanese comfort food at its finest.
