It was an honour to play the role of the Moon Princess at the World Heritage Site, Ninnaji Temple🌙 Have always been drawn to the moon and its mysterious powers. Yes I’m a big Sailor Moon fan too😙 So you can imagine the excitement!
A big shoutout to my make up artist Kenya too!! He did an amazing job in such little time (and with no wig!!)
The show will be aired in November! Such a magical setting featuring brilliant artists from all the world over - Hideki Togi (gagku musician), Sergei Polunin, Benjamin Apl, Shinobu Otake (actress), Kyohei Sorita. I had the chance to sing with the charming baritone Benjamin Appl, and my solo song was ‘Song to the Moon’ from Rusalka to which I wrote English lyrics🌕 I wanted the lyrics to be true to its original Czech language, both in terms of nuance and sound.
Thank you to all the staff and sponsors, priests involved to make this Kyoto Sound Stage come to life.
TV OA 3rd Nov. 2019
MBS/TBS 12:30am-1:24am

Giant Baba Death 20th Anniversary Memorial Show - 2/19/2019: Abdullah the Butcher Retires
Strong Style Story Episode 49 on Pro Wrestling Only
There really is one event being talked about today in puroresu, and that’s the memorial card for the 20th Anniversary of the death of Shohei “Giant” Baba, the founder of All Japan Pro Wrestling. This show also featured the retirement ceremony of the legendary Abdullah the Butcher at the tender age of 78 years old. This was a co-production of AJPW, New Japan, Big Japan, NOAH and Wrestle-1, with wrestlers from other companies such as Dragon Gate and Michinoku Pro participating as well. You knew this was momentous when NJPW founder Antonio Inoki (who is 76 today!), the lifetime rival in wrestling and business with Baba, opened the show up. Results:
Giant Baba Memorial Battle Royale: Mitsuo Momota d. Kim Duk, MEN’s Teioh, TARU, Ryuji Hijikata, Yuto Aijima, Joel Deaton, Masao Inoue, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi, Masahito Kakihara, Tamon Honda, Yasu Urano (7:11)(Referee: Mighty Inoue)
Tomoaki Honma [NJPW], Yuji Okabayashi [BJW], Naoya Nomura [AJPW] & Ren Narita [NJPW] d. Kazushi Miyamoto [FREE], Tomohiko Hashimoto [A-TEAM], Daichi Hashimoto [BJW] & Takuya Nomura [BJW] (Okabayashi > Nomura, Argentine Backbreaker,

Abdullah the Butcher Retirement Ceremony: Guests: Keiji Muto, Stan Hansen, Satoru Sayama, Seiji Sakaguchi, Mil Mascaras, Dos Caras, Jun Akiyama, Dory Funk Jr.
Taichi, TAKA Michinoku & Yoshinobu Kanemaru [SZKG] d. Masanobi Fuchi [AJPW], Yuma Aoyagi [AJPW] & Yoshiaki Fujiwara [FREE] (Taichi > Fuchi, cradle, 9:43)
SANADA & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] d. Jake Lee & Koji Iwamoto [AJPW] and. Ayato Yoshida [K-DOJO] & Shota Umino [NJPW] (SANADA > Umino, Moonsault Press, 8:13)
Naomichi Marufuji [NOAH] & Jinsei Shinzaki [Michinoku Pro] d. Masaaki Mochizuki & Shun Skywalker [Dragon Gate] (Marufuji > Mochizuki, cradle, 10:02)
Jun Akiyama [AJPW], Takao Omori [AJPW] & Taiyo Kea [FREE] d. Satoshi Kojima [NJPW], Yuji Nagata [NJPW] & Osamu Nishimura [FREE](Akiyama > NIshimura, Exploder, 12:32)
Mil Mascaras & Dos Caras d. NOSAWA Rongai [Tokyo Gurentai] & Kaz Hayashi [W-1] (Mascaras > NOSAWA, crossbody, 11:06)
Kento Miyahara [AJPW] & Daisuke Sekimoto [BJW] d. Hiroshi Tanahashi [NJPW] & Yoshitatsu [FREE] (Miyahara > Yoshitatsu, Shutdown German Suplex, 24:24)
Quite a lot happened here. If you see nothing else, watch the main event. The crowd was so into Triple Crown champion Kento Miyahara, who wore the original Triple Crown titles to the ring. Miyahara played a great face in peril, with Sekimoto the hot tag. Tanahashi heeled it up big time in this match but in the end, all four showed respect.
The semi-main is completely skipable bar for the sideshow of a 76-year-old Mil Mascaras doing a flying crossbody where before he could barely walk. SANADA & BUSHI represented, having both come from AJPW initially (under Keiji Muto). The third from main was definitely one for the 90s puroresu heads.
Atsushi Onita wrestled his final match before his upcoming double knee replacement surgery. Tomoaki Honma wrestled his first “Big Japan” match since he left BJW in 2000. Daichi Hashimoto entered to his father’s entrance theme.
Abdullah the Butcher was wheeled into the ring, being wheelchair-bound. He said he wished Baba was there. In addition to the guests listed above, there were video messages from The Destroyer Dick Beyer (who was not able to travel under doctor’s orders) and Minoru Suzuki. Post-main, video messages in tribute to Baba were played from Johnny Ace, Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat.
All in all, this show was always going to be more on the Fun side of things than Good, but there are several matches you should see. The show is making the rounds on the internet, however NJPWWorld did tweet out the show will be on there, eventually, in some form, so keep an eye out for that.
The next NJPW show proper is on Thursday, featuring another retirement ceremony, that of Takashi Iizuka.

Road to the New Beginning Night 3 - 1/29/2018: KUSHIDA’s NJPW Farewell; Updated Giant Baba Memorial Show Card
The tour continued today, with a match that sees the end of the NJPW career of Yujiro Kushida, best known as KUSHIDA around these parts. You can see it now on NJPWWorld.
Kushida's origins were actually based in MMA, as his first training was in the Takada Dojo run by the legendary Nobuhiko Takada, training under Takumi Adachi. He began training during junior high school, debuting in the MMA promotion ZST in 2003, where he would win their Genesis Lightweight Tournament in 2004, ending his MMA career with 6 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, while also attending Senshu University and working part-time for Tokyo Sports. It is generally assumed that Kushida's pro wrestling debut was in Takada's HUSTLE promotion in 2006, however he first debuted in Mexico in 2005 after learning lucha libre under El Oriental.
During his time in HUSTLE, Kushida would also work matches in All Japan Pro Wrestling and Osaka Pro. He left HUSTLE in 2009 after what amounted to a "loser leaves town" match, which lead to Kushida going abroad, wrestling all over North America, in Canada, Mexico and the USA, notably Chikara and OVW. In 2010, he would join Yoshihiro Tajiri's SMASH promotion, which is what got him into NJPW, with an appearance in 2010's edition of Best of the Super Juniors.
Kushida's NJPW career proper began on 4/1/2011, and the rest, as they say, is history. During his NJPW career, KUSHIDA became one of the best and most popular junior heavyweight wrestlers in the entire world, first as one-half of the Time Splitters tag team, with the now-retired Alex Shelley, winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles twice, as well as 2012's Super Jr. Tag Tournament. As a singles wrestler, KUSHIDA is a 6-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion and 2-time winner of Best of the Super Juniors, along the way having massively popular feuds with Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay and Hiromu Takahashi. Outside of NJPW, KUSHIDA was also the winner of the (ill-fated) 2016 Super J-Cup, the 2017 WhatCulture Pro Wrestling World Cup, and was even an ROH World Television Champion for a little while. He even managed to win the 2016 Cuadrangular de Parejas tag tournament in CMLL, along with partner Marco Corleone, and was #20 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's yearly PWI 500 list in 2017.
I don't think it's hyperbole to say that KUSHIDA's departure is a loss for NJPW, and in very many ways, a lost opportunity. I think he should have had a shot at competing in the heavyweights, as had been rumored for the last few years, and it's bittersweet that in his final match for the company, he finally gets a singles match with Hiroshi Tanahashi. He's been one of the best, most consistent workers in NJPW in his time with the company, and he will be missed around here. Best of luck to him, whereever he may end up.

KUSHIDA Farewell Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi d. KUSHIDA (Texas Cloverleaf, 24:34)
It really shouldn’t come as a surprise that KUSHIDA lost his farewell match, but even so... KUSHIDA gave a speech at the end, thanking everyone for the last 8 years, but said he was leaving now. Jay White did attack Tanahashi post-main, much as Fale hit Okada (and Uemura!) with Grenade, and Naito did to Taichi with Destino. Ren Narita v. Yuya Uemura is getting rave reviews in some corners, and I am inclined to agree.
More matches have been announced for the Giant Baba Memorial show at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan on 2/19/2019. Thus far, no further matches with (current) NJPW talents have been announced, however it is confirmed that both Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomoaki Honma (the latter of whom has also worked in AJPW and BJW) will be there, as well as current Triple Crown champion Kento Miyahara. Of all people, Atsushi Onita will ALSO be on this show, in an 8-man street fight. Just have a look at the card below. It’s going to be a mixed bag but should be a fun one.

Then there is also the first day of the controversial New Beginning USA tour, which that will be later in the evening, so i probably won’t blog about that until Thursday since I’m on Eastern time.
