Night found them before they were ready.

“We have to take it back, you know that, right?”

Tobiah didn't look up at her from across the fire. “I know.”

The wind that howled down through the mountain pass was lessened here, in the shelter of the outcropping, the sky a thin strip of light high above them.

Arelia stared at him, uncertain what else to say. There was no comfort she could offer – they both knew what awaited them if they returned.

She crouched down by the fire, drawing her cloak tightly around her shoulders. Her arm was stiff, from the shoulder all the way down to her fingers the healing magic he had laid into her wounds having only done enough to stop the bleeding, repair the most major damage done to the muscle and ligaments beneath her skin.

It still ached, bone deep. She flexed the fingers of her right hand – her sword hand – and was dismayed that they still only closed part way before trembling.

She could wield a blade with her left well enough, but she wasn’t at all certain that well enough would keep them alive long enough to reach the city.

After that, whatever happened would be out of her hands. She had sworn to see him into the highlands and back. She was not responsible for what they had found there.

It was difficult to look at him now, in a different way than it had been before. Before, when she looked at him, she had seen the face of the enemy.

Our amazing GM @oneirotect has set us in 207 AC between the first and second Blackfyre Rebellions (around 90 years before Game of Thrones and 50 years after the death of the last known dragon). So far we've travelled across the Narrow Sea, partied in Braavos, escaped an assassination attempt by the Golden Company, made some difficult political decisions and started romantic entanglements with likely very dire consequences.

Can I please talk about my weird little Warg from Lonely Light? My salt crusted Ironborn bastard whose definitely a Targaryen. Gwyndon "Gwyn" Pyke, my selkie boy.

We've started playing a little ASOIAF tabletop game set during the Blackfyre Rebellions (around 90 years before Game of Thrones). Our travelling party consists of two Targaryen bastards from the opposite side of Westeros and the Hedge Knight holding them for ransom (or so we thought).
