The floor groaned as Toad stepped into Rosalina’s room. He was greeted by the sight of her pacing back and forth. The white carpet underneath filled with indents from her heels. Toad walked over and wrapped his arms around her from behind. Rosalina startled, her crown slipping off her head and onto the ground.

“Toad?”

Toad hummed in agreement. “You okay?”

Rosalina turned and hid her face in his shoulder, shaking her head. Toad frowned, starting to rub her back. He held her close as Rosalina sank down onto the floor. Toad joined her, rewrapping his arms around her.

“Would it help if I told you that I spilled coffee on Princess Peach?” 

Rosalina laughed wetly, nodding. Toad smiled up at her, settling his head under her chin. “She was so pissed.”

“She had it coming." Rosalina wiped her eyes. Toad laughed and nodded. He turned, taking her hair in his hands and beginning to braid it.

“What’s wrong?” He asked

Rosalina just shook her head. “Nothing, just thinking”

“About?”

“Toad..” Rosalina looked away. “..Do you think I’m a bad person?”

“What? No” Toad furrowed his brows and tied a ribbon around her braid. “Did Peach say something?”

“No, it’s just..” Rosalina looked away and sighed. “I could’ve saved them, y'know..."

Toad leaned his head onto her chest. “You did what you thought was right, Rosa.”

Rosalina turned to rest her chin on his head, shutting her eyes. Toad smiled up at her. “I think you’re great, Rosa.”

“Really?”

“Really, really”

If you were the wedding planner of a Luiasy wedding how would you arrange it? What would the location be? What would the theme of the wedding be? And what extras would you add towards the outfits of the bride and groom?

Aaaaahhh this took me forever to get to 😭 @kelbreyworshipper I’ll be real with you, when you sent me this ask, I was walking to my chem final, and I read your prompt and I was like “ummmmm 😳”

Buuut I think it’s safe to say I had enough time to cook, plus it was a fun challenge, so I hope you enjoy this! It's pretty long, so read at your own pace hehe

First of all, I’ve chosen this day in particular to post the becaaauuuseeee…

Today (or yesterday wherever you are) is/was the one-year anniversary of my very first Luaisy drawing! BOY how far we’ve come. Now without further ado…

= LUAISY WEDDING =

This wedding was months in the making. Peach and Mario self-appointed themselves (even though it was obvious from the get-go) to the maid of honor and best man, so they worked tirelessly to ensure everything was perfect and better.

Each Mario lady had an essential part to play in this wedding:

Peach Maid of honor. Her role was to find the best venue for the wedding and send out invites to the Mushroom Kingdom and the other kingdoms within Sarasaland. But Peach being Peach with her overenthusiasm for weddings, carried 95% of the wedding planning and wedding day on her back. Of course, everyone gave her her flowers in the end. Mario definitely made sure she knew she was appreciated

Daisy was a 5'11" sack of nerves for her wedding, so Peach took it in her hands to calm her down, assuring her that it was completely normal to feel that way, and had to keep reminding her of how much Luigi loved her and that he wants this as much as she does. She also reminded Daisy that she should be elated because this is her special day. Peach would know all about it. ;)

Peach ran through the wedding, had multiple (maybe more than needed) rehearsals, and coordinated the wedding dinner that Daisy and Luigi would have.

Pauline Bridesmaid, wedding designer, and performer. I headcanon Pauline to be the most fluent in fashion and designing among the Mario ladies, and it was her who Peach took sewing up. Peach invited Pauline to a lot of her and Daisy's shopping trips for wedding dresses, getting her advice on what would suit her and Luigi's taste for their wedding day.

Pauline also performed at their wedding, doing solo performances, and then concluding with her band.

Rosalina Bridesmaid and vow writer. Even though Rosa is not a woman of many words, when she does have something to say, people are listening.

Out of the ladies, she's the biggest bookworm, spending time in her observatory reading and writing when she can. This makes her an amazing poet. All her close friends find it hard to believe that she doesn't have a significant other. She has shared some of her poems with her friends, and it was a wonder how none of them fell in love with her.

But Daisy called her up (or down) to help her write her vows, and Rosa was more than happy to help. She helped her organize her thoughts and feelings for Luigi and what their relationship truly meant to her. Rosa also helped to plan, outline, revise, and maybe wrote some parts of it herself.

She oversaw all parts of the writing process, yet, when Daisy recited those words back to Luigi on their wedding day, she reacted as if it were her very first time hearing it; tears in her eyes and hands clasped together. She was so proud.

Toadette Bridesmaid and master chef. And even better... free of charge! She was cooking up a storm with the help of other Toad chefs for Daisy and Luigi's special day. The two still provided her and her crew a very generous tip (Luigi is loaded here).

Mario

Best man. With Mario and Luigi, it was pretty much the same story with Peach and Daisy, except Luigi was ten times worse. It took Mario a great deal of effort and convincing Luigi to not call off the wedding, just because of the mere thought of Daisy possibly having second thoughts.

Mario did everything a typical best man would do at a wedding and more, making sure everything was in order, and not a single detail was out of place. Right before, during, and after the wedding, he used at least 3 full rolls of tissue paper.

Another thing on the performance line-up... I'm gonna go ahead and yoink @silenzahra's musician bros hc and say that Mario does a surprise performance for Luigi and Daisy. It’s a song that is a testament to his and Luigi’s bond, which obviously immediately gets Luigi choked up.

As Mario was singing and playing the guitar, it felt so wrong for Mario to be singing their song on his own, so Luigi joined him on the stage, grabbing a mic left behind from Pauline's band group and singing alongside him. Cue forehead touches, and lots of hugging, crying, and ‘I love you’s.

Wedding Location and Theme

I 100% believe that their wedding would take place outside. Daisy and Luigi wanted a large, open space with a nice landscape view with not too many manmade buildings. So uh, Brooklyn was out of the question, not that they minded. Daisy decided to make use of the Chai Kingdom (one of the four Kingdoms in Sarasaland) and its naturistic feel.

And then the post-wedding dinner and performances would all take place here:

As for the theme, I feel that they’d go with a fairytale-themed wedding! That, or a forest-themed wedding; green and orange are earthy colors, so I want their wedding to reflect that.

Again, yoinking @silenzahra's Luigi the bookworm hc, I’d like to think that one of the ways Luigi and Daisy grew closer was from reading together, and the National Book Days in Sarasaland. Once Daisy got more into reading, Luigi encouraged her to venture out in her castle’s library and find some genres that she liked. They both noticed that she seemed to gravitate towards stories that were more adventure-packed, as well as fairytales, mythological, and fictional stories. Daisy has a very active imagination and loves otherworldly visuals, so Luigi was more than happy to incorporate that into their wedding theme.

The bridesmaids and maid of honor are decked in golden dresses (for ya girl), and the groomsmen and best man are decked in emerald green (for ya boy). For the wedding guests’ attire… there is not a single trace of black to be found! The wedding looked like a rainbow that threw up all the colors in the visible spectrum.

To honor Pride Month… let’s just say Rosa is looking for that special someone… right beside her ;)

Lumas

I’m adding the Lumas (plus Lumalee of course!) to be the flower children! The wedding would be decked with 75-100 lumas of all different colors and purposes. They would be the ambiance for the wedding, especially when the sun sets, and at nighttime. The wedding would still use fairy lights in case the Lumas didn't cooperate (was never an issue). But... just imagine dozens of bright moving lights with sparkles trailing behind them in the night sky.

Yeah, Wario and Waluigi were invited, as long as they promised to behave. And if not, Daisy and her family will set em straight… and Mario if they even dare think about ruining his baby brother’s day. The two weren’t so fond of the dress code at first, but they sucked it up. Eventually, emerald green grew on them.

Also, the tie Mario is wearing was handcrafted by Luigi when they were kids. ;’)

Post-Wedding

Like I said earlier, plenty of food will be provided by Toadette and her crew, and there will be endless games. They would mostly be Mario Party-styled, but there would also be some sports like tennis or mini-golf. That all happens after the newlyweds have their dance and cake. Let’s just say for an itty-bitty second of time, they recreate the dance of all dances.

After all the fun has been had, the two are driven into the moonlight by Toadsworth with a “JUST HITCHED” sign on the back of his Parade Kart from MK Double Dash. They’d be transported in this very familiar fashion.

Since you asked me about my Mario au tell me about yours!!!!

Hum... Well, my AU is nowhere NEAR yours or anybody level of awesome. But I hope you still like this! ^^

So, to begin, I do want to pinpoint that I do believe in MatPats theory that Rosalina is the daughter of Luigi and Peach. I know that MatPat has a reputation of WAY overthinking things, and I don't agree with all of his theories, but I like this one. And the reason, as he also put in his video, for how Rosalina can be the same age as Peach, how Peach can be alive even though Rosalina's mother is dead, and why she would choose Luigi over Mario, is because the Mario Universe's galaxy basically resets itself every 100 years with various differences; Rosalina is from a previous cycle of the galaxy, and since now she's a part of the ship and with the lumas, she is nearly immortal.

The reason I took the time to get into that theory is that I applied that to my AU. The galaxy resets itself every 100 years or so with little differences here and there, hence the various inconsistencies throughout the Mario Franchise. (This is partially so I can have the excuse to have multiple Mario AU's and just claim it's another galaxy cycle 😅 but also because I genuinely think this is cool ^^) for now, we'll talk about the current galexy cycle. Or at least my version of it.

Since there is SOOOO much to dissect in the Mario universe, I'll try to cover a little bit of everybody. Or at least the main crew. If you want individual headcannons, feel free to ask! ^^ I'm gonna do this in bullet points since I feel that format will be better for this.

The World

Even though Rosalina states 100 years as the galaxy's cycle time in Super Mario Galexy, I'm gonna stretch this too... 1,000 years, at least. Because think about it; one century isn't as long as you may think. Peach, Mario, Daisy and Luigi can all be born and grow old to be 100, and maybe not even die considering the oldest person alive is 117 years old, a whole new galexy is supposed to be born within one or two generations?? It doesn't exactly sit right with me tbh. So even though it's explicitly stated in the Mario canon... I'm gonna toss that out the window for my AU 😅😅😅

I know that the Mario TV shows are considered non-canon, but I do draw inspiration from them; in the sense that in this cycle at least, Mario and Luigi did originate from Brooklyn and accidentally found a magic pipe that took them to the world of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi, after getting over the initial panic, decided to lay low and continue their jobs as plumbers in this strange world while trying to find a way to get back home (as plumbers, they can get closer to pipes anywhere and can easier find a pipe that can take them home). It wasn't until that they witnessed Bowser kidnapping Peach while fixing the pipes of her castle that they were promoted to heros.

Speaking of Princess Peach's World, everything is bigger here. Like, everything. From the plants, the wildlife, the coins, and even the people. That's why we have gold coins as big as Mario's head, and why Bowser Jr., a b a b y, is half his size. I headcannon Luigi to be 6'2 and Mario to be 5'3, which although is still small for the average man... Princess Peach is 7'3. Yeah. Which compared to Bowser, that's still small. They truly are the land of giants. Toads are considered some of the smallest inhabitants of this world, as well as other characters such as Fawful. (I heard that Nintendo made Mario's official height to be 5'1, which would make the other characters a more reasonable size when you do the math... But this is a different cycle of the galexy (*cough* my personal AU) so XD)

From now on, I'm gonna refer to the world as The Strangelands. This is the world as a whole, not one specific land like The Darklands or The Mushroom Kingdom. They have their own separate space and galexy from us, hence why we aren't affected by the galaxy rebirth. The land where the fairies of 3D world come from, however, is also a separate universe from the Strangelands, and that's part of why their pipes are transparent rather than green. Ever since Mario and Friends and Bowser discovered the land of the fairies, it's become more accessible... And yet Mario and Luigi still can't find a pipe back to their world 🥲

Building up on that; the boos are a separate entity from ghosts. We see in Luigi's Mansion both boos and ghosts of various shapes and sizes. The boos have never been alive, or at least not as humans or toads or anything. They are the natural born citizens of the Strangelands' underworld- or rather, The Underlands, as they are called in this universe. It's where you go when you die regardless of the kind of person you were in the Strangelands, and King Boo rules over the afterlife. He sets up haunted mansions up in the land of the living both for fun and to 'recruit' more ghosts... Since boos are aggressive towards Mario and Friends when they enter the houses, use your imagination on what this recruitment process entails.

Peach, the Toads, and the Mushroom Kingdom

I'm gonna say that for my AU, Peach is an adopted Strangelands human of the Mushroom King and Queen. For whatever reason, they couldn't produce an heir, but found Peach when she was a baby. That's why Peach looks different from the toads.

The clothes and building materials of the Mushroom Kingdom are made from the fibers of the kingdoms own mushrooms and toadstools. It allows the clothes to grow back when they get torn or something, and the houses and buildings can easily recover from an invasion (afterall, we were able to create bricks out of fungal mycelium that can literally grow. Why not have the same be true for the toads?) The clothes are also pretty soft despite not being cotton, silk, or anything of the like. Which is why Kamek and Luigi canonically love Peach's dress... And also it's because her fashion is on point.

As we know, Peach is becoming bigger than just a damsel in distress. In my AU, Peach took a vow of pacifism when she took the throne, believing that that was the true path. However, the more that Bowser kidnaps her and the more threats that she encounters, Peach has been starting to get tired of it and learning how to defend herself with Daisy as her mentor. She's still the sweet, kindhearted princess and would rather avoid conflict. But she's not afraid to fight some koopas anymore. (Bowser thinks it's hot-)

According to the original games' manual, the goombas were traitorous toads of the Mushroom Kingdom. The reason why they look so different from the toads is because the magic in the Darklands corrupted their forms, making them closer resemble the very fungai of their former home.

The Mario Kart and sports games take place in the far future, when Peach and Bowser are finally on peaceful relations like she had always hoped. She now always invites him and his family to the tournaments. It took a while for the toads to trust him, considering his reputation, but in good time, he was accepted in the Mushroom Kingdom again ^^ in fact, Iggy helped invent the gravity defying wheels we see in Mario Kart 8.

Bowser, the Koopa Kids, and The Darklands

Toadsworth and his wife, the grandma toad in Mario RPG, are basically the Kameks of the Mushroom Kingdom; being Peach's advisors and teaching her what magic they know. Granted, their magic is more light than Kamek's, but it was how Peach was able to change her citizens back to normal after Bowser turned them into bricks, stones, and horsetail plants in the first game/kidnapping.

Speaking of horsetail plants; they are considered illegal in the Mushroom Kingdom with how deadly they are to the citizens. They can make a toad gravely ill just by being near them, and is the most effective poison against a toad, being able to kill them in mere minutes after consumption. And, with various things in the kingdom being made of mushrooms, the horsetail plants can also potentially destroy the very foundation of the city. Bowser intended on taking the mushrooms of the kingdom and turned some of the citizens into the plants to keep any potential survivors away from the princess, and once he took full control he would turn the toads that were bricks and stones back to normal since they know how to create these mycelium inbued buildings.

Mushrooms in real life can boost plants' immune systems and even defend them when they are connected to their 'shroom network. The same applies to the mushrooms of the kingdom. In fact, because these are magical mushrooms, it makes Peach's Kingdom not only the healthiest, lushest and most colorful place in the Strangelands, but it also means her land is the most valuable for agriculture. Not only could you grow whatever you want in the kingdom's soil, but it can also thrive. If the Mushroom Kingdom was in charge of our farming, we would have so much produce we wouldn't know what to do with it! Those $6 boxes of strawberries could go down to as little as 50 cents! No wonder people are constantly invading Peach's kingdom!

The initial reason why Bowser kidnaps Peach in the first place was A) part of his plan to conquer and rule all of the Strangelands, and B) because her lands' mushrooms are valuable for the reasons I stated above and then some. However, at some point, he fell in love with the princess in pink and his kidnappings became less hostile (as in, unlike the first time, he'll leave the toads alone for the most part. He'll still cause destruction, but he doesn't go out of his way to kill anyone. Except the Mario brothers since they are constantly in his way and wrecking his plans). He wants to court Peach, but after the first time, he's pretty certain that she only sees him as a monster. So he thinks that the only way to get her to even look his way, let alone get her to talk to him, is by force. But as we see in the Super Mario Wonder promotion video, we see Bowser is starting to try more gentler tactics of charming Peach when he offers her flowers. It doesn't excuse his actions, but my version of Bowser just wants Peach to love him back.

He does love Peach for her, but he also gained memories of a past incarnation of the galexy where they were genuinely in love. He's not sure how these memories exist, or why they only came to mind when he first met Peach, but it did spur him to find answers, and that led to his falling for the princess (in this world, there are only a few characters who remember their pasts lives. Kamek is one of them, and he used an experimental spell to jog Bowsers memory, and later on the koopalings and Junior once he perfected the spell. And that's how Junior knows that Peach isn't his mama without her or Bowser telling him otherwise. But he and the koopalings still want her to be their mother)

The reason why we see so many dry koopas in the darklands is because the darklands are the closest connection to the underworld. Like you're more likely to find a pipe to the underworld in Bowsers castle than in Sarasaland or sonething. That's also part of why Bowser and King Boo have developed an alliance. Boo has taught Bowser the secret of his paintings, hence Super Mario 64, and provides him a way to utilize his citizens who have passed away. In return, Bowser agreed to allow King Boo reign over part of the Stranfelans whenever he takes over. As long as each of his kids still get their own kingdoms.

Speaking of the Koopalings; kamek only casted the spell on them after their own first encounter with Peach. The kids were confused as to why Bowser would go to such lengths for Peach, but when they got to interact with her, she was... Actually, very nice to them. Almost maternal. Peach couldn't believe Bowser had children and was even afraid for them, considering she's only seen his tyrannical side. For the brief time she interacted with them, she expressed concern and care for their wellbeing and even got to play with some of them like Lemmy, before Mario rescued her. That was enough to convince the Koopalings they needed Peach in their lives, but once they got to remember the past cycle where she was their mother, they really started to get involved in Bowsers schemes to get her back... Even if they are exasperated with him not just talking with her 😅

Wendy: Dad, trust me. Us girls love it when a guy just walks up to us and tells us how we feel! You need to try it!

Bowser: Hm... Maybe-

Bowser: Wait! Have there been boys talking to you, Wendy!?

Wendy: -_- Dad, if there were, Roy would have beaten them up by now.

Bowser: Well, as your father, I need to get a beating in myself! Where are they!?

Wendy: *facepalms*

Edit: I originally said that Bowser requested Kamek to jog his children's memories, but I realized the plothole in that; if he knew that the kids knew that Peach was only their mother in a past life, why did he look so guilty, shocked, and was almost crying when Junior confessed to him that he knew Peach wasn't really his mama? So I fixed it, and Kamek did it on the koopalings request instead, when they snuck in his lab and read his notes on this whole thing. Bowser only finds out later. (Also, Bowser up above is threatening to beat up the hypothetical boys that talked to Wendy not only because he's protective, but because he figured out she's a lesbian and isn't tolerating some guy putting the moves on her. Wendy hasn't told him yet, he's just waiting for her to come out if at all. He's intense, but he's got the spirit.)

In this galexy cycle, Bowser birthed Junior himself (I saw a headcannon floating around that koopas can reproduce with another, or by themselves, and I love that ^^), but adopted the koopalings in different times. Ludwig came first, followed closely by Iggy. Larry. Mortan. Roy and Wendy were adopted around the same time. And finally Lemmy. Junior was born a little before Roy and Wendy came into the picture, and has very vague memories of first being introduced to Lemmy. Other than that, as far as he's aware, his siblings have been with him from the beginning.

As for the Koopalings' ages, I do mostly agree with the mainly agreed census that their order of appearance in Super Mario Bros 3 is indicating their ages; Ludwig, Lemmy, Roy, Iggy, Wendy, Mortan, and Larry... I say I mostly agree with this because I actually headcannon Lemmy to be the youngest of them all next to Junior. Just- LOOK AT HIM!? He's so baby!! I know, he could very easily just be immature and short for his age... But he is the true baby of the Koopalings in my heart.

Rosalina and the Lumas

As for Kamek, he's been working on this memory spell for some time. The past... 50 or so galexy cycles, in fact. It's only before the lumas sacrificed themselves in SMG that he finally cracked it, after experimenting on himself and other koopas (one cycle, he even accidentally wiped all of his memories and had amnesia for the rest of his life. Fortunately, he had all of his memories back in the next cycle and made a mental note not to do what he did to cause that again 😅)

As stated above, Rosalina is from a previous cycle where she was Peach's and Luigi's daughter. It did take her some tie to get used to witnessing new timeliness where her mother fell in love with Mario instead, or stayed single. Bowser being her mothers love interst especially threw her off. Though, because of that, she has developed a tiny sense of a big sister role with Junior and the Koopalings. It grew when she got to meet and interact with them in Mario Kart, though she keeps her secrets from them; they don't know that she's technically their sister from another timeline.

By the end of Super Mario Galexy, Rosalina has made her presence known to the cast, and has decided to be more hands on from now on as her role of watcher of the galexy. She comes to the Strangelands to physically check in more often, and that allowed Peach to invite her to the kingdoms events. Rosalina hasn't told Peach of her true identity, though the princess does feel a strange, maternal warmth towards her that she can't explain.

The reason why Rosalina and the lumas were so involved in SMG was because of the black hole. It was unexpected, and they stepped in hoping to help Mario stop it, but he couldn't. That's why the lumas sacrificed themselves to emergency reset the whole galexy before it's scheduled time. It's because of that emergency cycle that the cast are still around rather than being reborn as their ancestors and clearly remember everything.

Just because Rosalina has accepted her role as watcher of the galexy, doesn't mean she's too happy about it. I mean, she has to watch her family who don't even remember her continue on with different lives every 1,000 years, and is unable to communicate to them who she really is... I think Rosalina might have even developed depression at some point. She loves the lumas, but she still wishes she can truly be with her family. Even if they aren't her family anymore.

After the events of Galexy, Kamek wants to find Rosalina and figure out what the hell is going on. He remembers past lives, but doesn't know how it's even possible. But he knows Rosalina has to know, and he wants answers. He's also hoping to find a way to get everyone to remember their pasts for his own reasons. But since Rosalina lives in a spaceship, it's kind of hard to accomplish that... But hey, with the strange stoic women being invited to the Go Karting tournaments, as well as the koopas, it gives our favorite wizard a chance to finally confront Rosalina...

This is all I have so far, aside from character headcannons. I also have my own original concepts and characters. You know Princess Boolina (the poll is still going, but I'm gonna refer to her as Boolina since that's the winning name), as well as a kingdom of music with a king, queen, princess, and prince. I'm not sure if I'll develop the second one more. It depends on whether or not people would be interested and if I can figure out how to fit them in the Mario world. But I hope you like this AU! It may change as I develop it more ^^

Part of the need for the emergency reset was also because of people like Kamek trying to change the course of this cycle. In this iteration, or at least the one before the lumas sacrificed themselves, Peach was supposed to end up with Mario, but thanks to Kamek, Bowser kept getting in the way and trying his way of courting her and getting her back rather than letting this cycle run its course, to the point where he made up his own universe and caused the events leading up to the blackhole consuming everything just to have his love back. After these events, Rosalina has decided that she should keep a better eye on Bowser and Kamek in particular...

Mario Characters as Batman Villains - Day 18: Toadette + Punchline

For today, I have decided to change characters from what I planned to do again, similar to how I switched Toad and Rosalina, which means Toadette gets done today.

The choice of character to pair Toadette with gave me quite a few headaches because I wasn't sure of a good fit for her. A couple of choices were considered, but when someone suggested Punchline, I thought it would be a fine fit for her, hence we got the drawing we have here. Since Punchline is a pretty recent addition as a Batman villain, I don't blame you for not knowing who she is.

Similar to Toad, the fact that Toadette have an unusual body type makes certain details difficult to depict. For one, the legs: I hope that the "O" and "X" around the boots are visible. Toadette normally doesn't have hair, but I added a fringe to slightly better show the non-black streak like Punchline's fringe.

I recall how there was one user's avatar depicting Toadette brandishing a knife with a smile on a Mario Party forum, and I thought it looked funny. It's not related to making the decision here, but it does ease the barrier in adding knives for Toadette.

Derek x MC Week Day 3 - Pining

Set between Steps 3 and 4

Mario's tires squealed as he drifted around the corner. A built up boost rushed him towards the finish line. First place was his for sure! But little did he know that Waluigi was right behind him with a green shell prepared. With the precision of a sniper Waluigi threw the shell and hit Mario square on. Mario's kart spun out and Waluigi passed right on by. Then DK, then Toad, then a red shell hit Mario, then Bowser, Rosalina, and Toadette passed him, then Wario hit Mario with a bullet bill to pass by too, then Ludwig and Dry Bones went past as well, finally Mario was allowed to move forward and claim tenth place.

In real life Patricia fell back on the couch in her dorm and groaned. "How could you do this to me?"

In his apartment, miles away, Derek responded, "Sorry, but all's fair in love, war, and Mario Kart."

Patricia laughed at that. "Man... You're lucky you aren't sitting next to me. I would pull out some of your dad's tactics next race."

"Then I would have to borrow some tricks from Nico," countered Derek. That got the two of them laughing again.

When the laughter calmed down Patricia said, "It would be nice to see you in person again though."

"Yeah. That would be nice," said Derek, "That would be nice." Neither of them could break out of their thoughts to say anything else. Derek broke the silence by saying, "It sucks to be busy adults, huh?"

"It does!" said Patricia, "Do you think you'll be able to make it down to Sunset Bird this summer?"

"I'll try my best!" said Derek. A response that had become an unfortunately familiar trend when it came to discussing breaks. After that they returned their focus to the game.

Trying Something New(Luigi x Gender Neutral Mage Reader)

Usually post only on A03 but decided to test my luck here. I do one shot requests for the following fandoms so feel free to make requests in the comments! Fandoms: FNAF(SB), Ninjago, TMNT(any), DC, TWD, The Mandalorian, Spiderman into the Spiderverse(and atsv), The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Breath of The Wild, Super Mario Movie.

“Rosa you know I don’t like these parties, why couldn’t you have just let me stay home?” I whined, my head resting on the cushioned wall of the carriage.

Rosa giggles, “You’re my mage in training silly, it’s important for you to attend these events. Plus that plumber guy who you’re always talking to will be there as well.” Her lips quirked a little, “The poor boy seems enamored over you.”

My cheeks flared red and I turned my attention to the small glass window, revealing the winding colorful roads as we approached Mushroom Kingdom. “Rosa stop teasing, you know as your mage I can not have any distractions, my objective is to keep you and the Celestial Kingdom safe, not gallivant off with some guy.” 

Rosalina slouched in her seat, arms crossed, and her face twisted into a pout. “Boo, you’re no fun!”

I rolled my eyes, she always was so childish. 

We had finally arrived at the lavish and quite large Mushroom Castle. Peach’s portrait plastered on the large stained glass window centered at the top of the castle, a detail I had always found egotistical but the toads absolutely worshiped her so I guess it made sense. We were escorted by a very polite pink toad with the toad equivalent to braids. As soon as we reached Peach’s view she smiled brightly and ran towards Rosalina, embracing her tightly. I stood silently off to the side, allowing them to talk together excitedly while I looked on with a fond smile. I surveyed the crowd trying to seem like I wasn’t looking for anyone in particular but in full truth, I was. The party was lively, many lanterns and tables laden with intriguing foods procured from the Mushroom Kingdom itself. I glanced over at Rosalina who was still laughing with Peach, Daisy having now joined them. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt if I looked around, Rosa is always telling me that I need to have more fun anyways and she was in good hands. The party itself was bustling with mostly toads, so it was easy to pick the other human out of the crowd, let alone the fact that he was donned in bright red. I poked Mario in the side from behind, which sent him falling onto his ass. He grumbled, adjusting his hat that had fallen over his eyes. “You always have to do that, don’t you?” He shot me an annoyed look as he picked himself up, brushing imaginary dirt off of his jean overalls. 

I smiled knowingly, “Oh have I upset the great hero? My apologies.” 

He scoffed, “You ain’t so high and mighty yourself oh great mage.” 

Despite seeming annoyed, a small smile tugged at his lips, I knew he enjoyed our banter. 

“You looking for Lu?” He asked absentmindedly, noticing my wandering gaze, not all too surprised by it.

“Ah yeah- Where is he anyways?” 

Mario shrugged, “Went off to get food or something, should be back soon.” 

I nodded and was about to start up another conversation when I heard Luigi’s voice coming up from behind us. “Hey Mario I got you that drink you wanted…Oh-”

I turned around with a smile to see him stopped in his tracks, a pink tint blooming on his cheeks. 

“H-hey y/n!” 

He shot Mario a look, “I didn’t know the Celestial Kingdom was attending today.” 

I raised an eyebrow at him frowning a bit, why did he seem so uncomfortable, was he not excited to see me? He noticed my frown and quickly added in with a smile, “Of course it’s always nice to see you! Mario just didn’t tell me you were coming, in fact, he actually said you weren’t.” 

The last part was said through clenched teeth, a glare shot in Mario’s direction. 

“Ehh, lets just call it a last minute arrangement.” Mario proclaimed unbothered, taking a sip of his drink while looking Luigi in the eyes. His demeanor was smug, over what I couldn’t be sure but whatever it was, it was making Luigi more anxious by the second. I mean he usually was the anxious type, but never this much.

I uncomfortably looked between the two brothers, the tension becoming unbearable. Finally Mario was the one to break off the staredown, slowly walking off into the throngs of party attendees, “Welp I’m gonna go talk to the princess, see ya losers later!” 

Luigi was about to object but Mairo was too fast and had already dipped. 

“Soooo…what was that all about?” My face was twisted with confusion, so much so that it kind of hurt.

Luigi started a bit as if he had forgotten that I was even there. “Uh don’t worry about it, just sibling stuff…Uh anyways how have things been? H-how have you been?”

I smiled, grateful to change to a less confusing subject. “Um I’ve been good actually, can’t complain. You?” 

He returned the smile, “That’s good to hear! Things have just been the usual around here, Mario and his heroics and what have you.” 

Quite a few of the toads kept bumping into us and so we moved off to the side, continuing to talk as we walked. 

“How’s being the court mage? Are they making you work hard?” 

I shrugged halfheartedly, “It’s great I guess, people are always telling me how big of an honor it is to be ‘chosen by the gods’ for such a role. I just feel like I’m wasting away my life y’know? Just stuck in that stuffy castle on standby on the off chance something happens or I get a vision of some great danger. Like what do they need me for? Just to stop the occasional incoming asteroid? Nothing really happens there, most people don’t even know of our existence.” I paused and gazed off into the distance at Rosalina’s floating silhouette. “Plus, I feel like Rosa is mighty powerful herself to handle such matters on her own, she’s stronger than she lets on, the Lumas just hold her back because they’re too overprotective.” I looked back over to Luigi who’s face now had a hint of…pity? to it.

My face went red from embarrassment “I-I’m so sorry I’ve just been ranting this whole time-” 

He shook his head gently, “Please don’t worry about it, I’m always happy to listen to you, no matter what it’s about. I’m here for you, ok?”

He said it with such sincerity that it took me aback, so much so that it took me a second to notice that at some point he had gently grabbed my hand in his. He traced my line of sight and dropped my hand from his once he noticed, coughing awkwardly. I clasp my hands together and muster an awkward smile, “Thanks Lu, that really means a lot to me…” 

I trail off, looking down at the hand he had held, rubbing my thumb over it longingly. 

He rubbed the back of his neck and laughed nervously, “It’s no problem…” 

We stood there for a bit, neither of us moving our faces dusted pink. “Ahem!” 

We both jumped, startled to find Mairo behind us, shooting us a knowing look. He then turns to me in particular. “Princess Rosalina would like to see you, something about…fireworks?”

He shrugged. My eyes widened, “Oh! I completely forgot!” then turning to Luigi, “I’ll see you later Lu!”

I wave and quickly run off in the direction of the three princesses, still chatting happily. 

Luigi watched as they ran off, a sad and longing look following them. Mario crossed his arms and gave Luigi the same smug look from earlier complete with a wide smirk. “Soooo…did things go well?” 

He leans towards Luigi teasingly, turning Luigi tomato red. He tenses up at this stammering, “I-I didn’t do it…” he admitted defeatedly, his body slumping. 

Mario groaned, making sure to drag it out for dramatic effect. “Lu we went over this!” 

Mario pinched the bridge of his nose. Suddenly he brightened, snapping his fingers, “I have an idea!” Luigi leaned forward, listening intently. 

“Soon, when the sun sets, Princess Rosalina is going to put on a firework show which y/n is helping her prepare right now.” Luigi raised an eyebrow, curious to see where this was going.

“So, when the firework show starts, find a quiet spot for you and y/n to sit and watch the show. Then while the show is in full effect, lean towards them slowly to initiate a kiss.” Mario looked proudly at Luigi, confident in his plan. Luigi didn’t look so confident though. 

“I’m not sure about this Mario…” He squeezed his arm nervously.

Mario waves him off and throws his arm around his brother’s shoulders, “Trust me bro, if it worked for me and the princess it will work for you two.” He assured him.

“If you say so…” Luigi agreed half heartedly. Luigi looked off in the distance, hesitant. “What if they hate it or hate me after? I can’t lose them.” 

Mario rolled his eyes and grabbed his brother’s shoulders. “Dude, have you seen the way they look at you? Call me crazy but they seem to feel the same.”

Luigi goes to object but Mario stops him, “Dude I swear to god and all things holy if you don’t confess tonight and I have to listen to you say how much you like them one more time without making a move I’m going to lose my mind.” He emphasized this by shaking Luigi by the shoulders. Luigi pushed Mario off of him “Ok ok I get it, I’ll do it tonight.” He assured Mario.

Mario stared him down, looking for any sign that he was going to chicken out. Satisfied, he only replied with, “Good.” before walking back into the center of the festival. Luigi sighed heavily, “Here goes nothing…”

I listened to Rosa as she carefully went over our routine for the firework show that was meant to take place shortly. I was paying close attention to her hand movements that produced small sparks from her fingertips, a smaller controlled version of what we were actually about to create. Concentrating, I went to mimic the same hand movements when a hand lightly tapped my shoulder, causing me to jump and mess up, a stray spark shooting off from my finger. “Oh my god y/n I’m so sorry-” Luigi apologized profusely. 

Rosa giggled, to which I sent her a glare, face red with embarrassment. 

I gave Luigi a smile assuring him it was alright, “It’s ok Lu I promise. Was there something you needed?” I cocked my head at him, observing how he dug his toe nervously into the dirt and refused to meet my gaze. “I um, I was just wondering if…” he started, not finishing. 

“If…?” I asked, encouraging him to continue. 

“If you would sit with me during the firework show-!” he blurted out all in one go as if he knew that if he didn’t, he never would. 

I stiffened, shocked, he had never been this forward before. I tried to regain my composure and give him a response, “I-I have to help Rosa with-”

But Rosa stops me at that, a sly smile on her lips, “No y/n you go ahead! I can do the show on my own, you have fun!” she said while shooing me off, pushing me towards Luigi. “Rosa wait-” I tried to object to which she sternly placed her hands on her hips, “Y/n as your princess, I order you to go and have a good time!”

Knowing she was quite stubborn I decided not to argue further and instead allowed myself to walk off with Luigi. He brought us over to a sort of isolated patch overlooking the field where the fireworks were to be set off. It was covered with moss and tiny mushrooms of varying colors.

Luigi leaned back, making himself comfortable. I followed suit, doing my best to steady my already rapidly beating heart. Somehow he always managed to get my stomach in knots, even when he wasn’t doing anything but just sitting beside me. I tapped my fingers restlessly on the ground, searching for something to say. “So uh, are you excited for the show?” I managed to spit out. He mustered a nervous smile in response, “Yes! In the human world we have fireworks but I’m sure they’re nothing compared to ones produced by magic.”

I chuckled, I always forgot he wasn’t from our world, it added to his charm. “Yeah, Rosa is great at this kind of thing, the routine is quite impressive, she’s been practicing it for at least a week. I can’t wait for you to see it, you’re going to love it!” I smiled widely at him. He gives a warm smile in return before his attention is turned elsewhere. The toads and other partygoers had begun to congregate on the outskirts of the field, the show was about to begin. I watched as Luigi’s eyes lit up with excitement to which I admired fondly.  Rosa glided over to the middle of the field, silencing everyone as they watched her in anticipation. She smiled, spreading her arms wide before her. The first spark flew into the night sky, eliciting cries of wonder from the crowd. I was so entranced by the view that I hardly noticed how close Luigi had shifted towards me until I felt his hand lightly graze mine. I turned to face him confused, “Uh Lu…?” 

He was looking at me now, shyly, inching his face closer to mine. My breath hitched as I realized what he was going to do next. I needed to stop him, this wasn’t right I- 

And then his lips were on mine, briefly, maybe only for a few seconds, but it felt much longer. He pulls away, giving me a hopeful look laced with anxiety. I sat there, stunned, the fireworks fading to background noise. I turned my face away from him and gripped the strands of grass below me. Even without looking at him I could tell he was concerned. “Luigi I can’t.” 

I tried to state firmly but my voice wavered. I felt him move away from me as his warmth followed. I watched as he stood up and I wanted with all my heart to call him back to my side, but I couldn’t. “Lu I’m sorry-” I say quietly. 

He gives me a sad smile. “It’s ok y/n, I understand, I’m sorry I just assumed...” 

I can feel the tears pooling in the corner of my eyes as he begins to walk away “Lu wait-!” But he’s already too far away to hear my call. 

I groan as I bury my face in my hands, why can’t I do anything right…? Looking up I can see that the show has ended, everyone leaving the field and going to their respective homes or carriages. The night is over. I begrudgingly picked myself off, Rosa would want to be heading home soon and I needed to meet her at the carriage, there was no point in dwelling on this any longer. The walk back was painful and it was taking everything in me not to let the tears stream down my face, the pained and sad look on Lu’s face haunting me. Despite how brief the kiss had been it was everything I ever thought it would be like. Soft and gentle, it was nice. The Lumas’ words pierce through my thoughts as they usually would when I got distracted, “There is no room for distractions, your mind must be set on protecting the kingdom.” 

Anger grew inside of me, taking it out on a rock near my foot, kicking it as hard as I could. I wanted to scream, I wanted this more than anything in the world. Why couldn’t I just defy this one rule? 

It had begun to drizzle when I had finally reached the carriage, my eyes puffy from the tears that had managed to slip through. Rosa stood at the open door to the carriage waiting for me with a smile. “So, what did you think?” She asked me eagerly.

I gave her a small smile, “You were amazing as always Rosa.” and then entered the carriage. Rosa waved bye to Peach and gave her our thanks for the invitation, before following me into the carriage. She gave the driver the go ahead and we began to move. Rosa was trying to talk to me about something but I couldn’t hear or focus on any of it, I was too busy at war with myself. “Sooo…how’s Luigi?” I snapped out of whatever funk I was and just stared at her. 

“I-I made a mistake. Stop the carriage!!” I yelled over to the driver. Rosa gave me a questioning look but also alerted the driver to stop. Once we had stopped I ripped the carriage door and dashed out into the now pouring rain, Rosa calling out after me. We thankfully hadn’t gone too far and I reached the mushroom kingdom entrance within minutes. Gasping for air, I frantically searched around, trying to remember where Luigi and Mario’s house was. I spotted a small blue toad down the road and ran towards him, asking for directions. 

Finally, I found the house and stood before the wooden door panting. I raised fist to knock but hesitated. I shook my head, no backing out now, not when I’ve come this far. With the newfound courage I pounded on the door. I waited, anxiety coursing through me which eventually spiked as the door was finally opened. There stood Luigi, eyes red and puffy causing a sharp pang in my heart. “Lu…” I breathed out, water dripping down my sides. 

His eyes widened, but before he could say anything I swooped down and mashed my lips against his, a small squeak escaping from him. I pull away reluctantly and look him in the eyes, “Lu I am so sorry, I was just scared which I know is no excuse but I really do care for you.” 

My eyes were watering again and tears were already falling from his. “Aw Lu please don’t cry, you’re going to make me cry.” 

I laughed, the tears pooling over and finally spilling down my cheeks combining with the rain water. I leaned in and kissed him again moving from his lips to peppering small kisses all over his face, a small laugh finally escaping his lips. 

“Y/n?!” I looked over my shoulder, at the sound of Rosa calling out for me. I turn back to Luigi and take his hands in mine. “I really need to get going but I’ll call you later?” 

He grins up at me, “Y-yeah! Call you later…” 

I turn to go before he pulls me towards him, surprising me with another kiss, this one a bit longer than the others. My face flushes red and my smile is so wide it covers my whole face. “See you later Lu.”

I let go, running back off towards Rosa’s voice, still calling for me. As I run off I can feel him watching me until I am out of sight. My heart swells and for the first time in my life I feel whole.
