Done for Now
I took a few minutes inside the train station, savoring the moment. I was glad to be done, yet sad it was over. I was exhilarated, and relieved...and hungry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found a pub and treated myself to a burger and a nice cold glass of Coca-Cola. Then I hurried to catch the train back to New York. It was my first time riding the Harlem Line, which runs right along the Hudson at river-level, providing spectacular views of the Hudson Highlands.
I stared out the window, watching the Palisades go by. I had just finished a wonderful yet difficult tour, and yet all I could think about was the next one.
Tumblr media
I stepped out of the train station and into the commotion of 125th street on a warm Sunday afternoon. It was disorienting, after so many days on the road. Everything they say about the pace of New York, it's all true, only you don't really feel it until you've been away for a while.

Do I look any different?

Regulus has now been to nine states and two countries.
Tumblr media
After taking some pictures outside my building, I wrangled Regulus inside and (painfully) climbed the stairs to my apartment. I was home.
It's been nearly a month since I returned from my trip. I spent the last few weekends sorting through my photos, editing the time-lapse videos, and writing the entries of this Tumblr. If there's one thing I've learned from this experience, it's that I really, really, really like riding my bike. Touring is great, seeing new places, getting exposure to different cultures and foods and languages, is eye-opening, camping out can be fun, but what I love most about tours is being on my bike, riding from place to place, seeing how far I can push my body. I can't imagine a better way to spend a vacation than getting on my bike and going somewhere.
My knee has shut me down for the rest of the year, but I'm looking forward to getting back Out There in the spring. Thanks to everyone for their support before, during and after the trip. Solo touring is by definition a solitary endeavor, but your texts, tweets and emails wishing me well and rooting me on made it feel as though I had a caravan of supporters riding right alongside me.
Until the next one!

The Walkway over the Hudson. It would've been nice to check it out, but at this point I just wanted to be done.

With just a mile to go until the train station, I was forced to get off my bike and walk up a hill, my knee unable to take the strain.

The last few miles into Poughkeepsie. Not the most scenic way to end an 9-day tour.

Riding past FDR's home in Hyde Park. Earlier I had passed a Vanderbilt estate--I guess this was where the elites hung out.

I was on one of the old Post Roads and every few miles I would come across these milestones. "104 Miles to N.York" this one says.

I enjoyed these flat, arrow-straight country roads, which are hard to come by in the areas I'm used to cycling in.
