Shelley Wilburn, whom this author does not know wrote this amazing review... 5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Let the Title Fool You Format: Paperback|Verified Purchase The Rector is by far the best murder mystery I've read, and I have read many. While it's titled as a Christian Murder Mystery, it's definitely not lacking action, suspense, spirituality or content. The characters are larger than life, believable, and one can't help but feel a part of them. So much takes place in this storyline yet it's easy to follow. The reader definitely never gets bored. While The Rector is written around a small town church, its pastor and the people, the story and plot are not boring, pushy in religion or religious beliefs, so don't let the title fool you into thinking this may be a stale book. The twists and turns throughout the story will keep the reader wondering and guessing. However, while entertaining, The Rector is also informative in many areas. It's an excellent read. I highly recommend it. It's tough to put down.

Publisher’s Weekly just weighed in on The Rector with their review. This is a big deal for any author. “...engaging, high-energy Christian murder mystery...”
https://www.publishersweekly.com/9780984528264
The Rector: A Christian Murder MysteryMichael Hicks Thompson. Shepherd King, $18 trade paper (342p) ISBN 978-0-9845282-6-4 Thompson’s engaging, high-energy Christian murder mystery is narrated by Martha McRae, a woman living in a small Mississippi town who seeks to solve the mystery of the sudden death of pastor David Baddour. Throughout the novel, readers are introduced to the cast of characters who inhabit the small Delta town in the 1950s. The book gleefully mixes all the elements of a small-town murder mystery—gossip, foul play, backstabbing—and, as more is revealed about Pastor Baddour and the other townspeople, more mysteries, hypocrisies, and dangers add to the intrigue. In spite of the danger McRae faces, she leaves no stone unturned. As she moves closer to solving the mystery, she must grapple with difficult truths about faith, honesty, sin, and redemption. With its exploration of small-town life in and close examination of the inhabitants of the town, Thompson’s tale looks intimately at what it means to function in a community—how a population can reveal and obscure the truth. Folded into the narrative are many Christian lessons, musings, and references, which can be interesting and edifying for some readers of faith.
