More video game critiques by Me, a Paleontologist and lifelong computer gamer
coral island is great but there is no reason why there should be outdoor cats in a game literally centered around conservationism. wtf. I'm never going to not be pissed about this.
tiny bird garden' deluxe's 's baby bird feature is Cruel and I have to keep reminding myself that its just pixels. it's not a real baby bird. its pixels.
growing up is amazing and everyone should play it. they should make more content for it. it even has birds are dinosaurs! bc its themed in the 90s!
havendock is impossible to use
I like alba: a wildlife adventure so far I just wish it took place in a different location
let's build a zoo is cute and fun but the prehistoric life is not *quite* accurate enough

On a tangential note, I've been playing Tiny Bird Garden Deluxe lately
Which I thoroughly recommend for anyone wanting a daily cozy game about birds, incidentally
But there's this one Discussion on Steam asking "okay but is this horror. Is this secretly horror. Do I feed tiny birds and raise one like a Tamagotchi and play little minigames and then suddenly blood on the perches, eaten eyeballs, death death dismemberment. Does this happen because I have been burned before"
And the answer is genuinely "No, you do that stuff and keep doing that stuff. Sometimes there are hats"
To which the asker is greatly relieved
Secret horror is such a tricky genre
#Gaming#Cozy gaming#tiny bird garden#Tiny bird garden deluxe#THE BABY#Augh i gotta feed kelly shit#Horror gaming#Secret horror#It's safe genuinely no trolling#One of the birds has an eyeball pattern on its tumby#That's as spooky as it gets

Chapitre 202 - The Distorted Wish
Splash text: Those soaring wings with the power to go anywhere
What image did they paint upon the boy's eyes...?
OH I -
WATANUKI AS THE DESCENDANT OF THE CLOW LEGACY
WATANUKI FILLING IN AS THE HEIR LAVA LAMP WAS
Watanuki being born into a world as the heir to a bloodline where he technically didn’t exist, but at the same time he exists now, and he’s always been the heir as long as he’s existed.
And he doesn’t even know! He doesn’t even know who his family is or who Lava Lamp is to him or that they care for him so deeply! He doesn’t know where he came from or why he exists and for a while he was scared that he didn’t actually exist at all, just a dream destined to fade away.
And he almost was, but now he’s so much more than that, and it’s the love of everyone around him that keeps him firmly planted in reality.
I JUST HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT WATANUKI OK.
Watanuki in the garden of Yuuko’s house, wearing Clow Reed’s cloak.
Watanuki having all these people fight to have him here at all.
Watanuki as proof that mistakes are not just mistakes and even accidents can be vitally important to everyone they touch.
Watanuki as living proof of what love is, and what love can create, and what love can sustain.
#Watanuki as a void and Watanuki as Love Itself#OH THIS TINY BOY#HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW#All the prices people made to keep him here#Just sitting in this garden enjoying the birds#AND THE PRICE WAS ALWAYS WORTH IT#Liveblogging the reservoir chronicle#Tsubasa#Vol 202#Watanuki#Crying about Watanuki on Christmas Eve#AS CLAMP INTENDED

Mundane sort of ‘magical creature AU’ thought but- a sad notion.
Y’know how urban wildlife is typically viewed? Like… seagulls. “Trash birds”, heavily loathed, often chased away despite the fact that they are only trying to adapt to a human, urban world. Or coyotes, widely hated and hunted when they encroach upon human settlements for the risks they pose- despite the fact that they were there first.
Idk. That happening with mythical creatures- again, it falls back into that idea of something that was once respected or revered (moreso in the case of magical creatures than true wildlife, but still) now being reviled and ‘common’ for the crime of being simply inconvenient.
#disclaimer: this is not to downplay the damage that something like a coyote can do don’t get me wrong but their public perception is so sad#- to me. it just is. like… this is the niche the US has created by eradicating wolves it’s not their fault.#angsty shit#<- as that is the ultimate thought behind this.#sirens being treated like alligators or sharks and being hunted/removed from water systems that they naturally belong in.#gorgon roundups instead of rattlesnake roundups. tiny fairies being viewed as house/garden pests like mice and rats or caterpillars.#you know that spiky shit that businesses put on their buildings/even actual fucking trees sometimes to keep birds from landing on them? shit#- like that.

May 2024: More Bees Than You'd Think
Sad news. The cardinal egg hatched but the hatchling fell out of the nest & died:

Our asparagus are ferning. It typically takes asparagus 3 to 4 years before it start producing harvestable spears which means growing it requires patience & an eye on future returns:

This is our third planting of these cucumbers because something(tm) keeps eating them to the stem. I took no half measures this time. I caged them with hardware cloth & applied diatomaceous earth:

Found two egg shells in my garden, while sweeping up after a hard ass rain.
The past few springs I’ve found dead chicks outside. I’ve been working my bum off to make the place more hospitable to insects, birds, etc.
Found 5 feet or so apart, but I’m taking this we a good sign! Lol, at first I thought it was bottle cap garbage in my yard and got annoyed! Nope! So glad I found evidence of chicks, and not seeing them on the ground this year!

creating something to look forward to tomorrow: i'm gonna sit in the garden >:)
#no braincells required 👍#i was meant to sit in the botanic gardens yesterday but it rained :(#but i have pencilled in a clear week to hopefully be able to go and see ducklings (if they are even there) on one day in april >:)#ngl feels bonkers horrifying awful to need to schedule such 'tiny' things with so much room around them but! no use fighting it!#if that's what it takes to be 'well' enough to leave the house then so be it! i guess!#i've really got to get to a place where i'm like. 5/10 ill (for me) or under bc atm i'm swinging between like 8 or 9 every day and uh.#it's killing my vibe to put it nicely! :P#gotta do less now to do more later! even though there's 5 million things i want to do RIGHT NOW!#i guess the root of them all is wanting to feel less ill so. me @ myself do things that improve chances of accomplishing that?#for more than a few minutes at a time? 👍#anyway. I'm gonna SIT and not walk around and not let myself be persuaded if i see my dad out there who wants to show me all#the garden stuff he's been working on. even though i want to see so badly 😤#one day! the day will come for that one day!!!!!!!#for now it'll just be so nice to have some fresh air and hear the birds and see plants! :')

Goldcrest- Regulus regulus.. by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: The goldcrest is a very small passerine bird in the kinglet family. Its colourful golden crest feathers, as well as being called the "king of the birds" in European folklore, gives rise to its English and scientific names. The scientific name, R. regulus, means 'petty king'
