Summary

Daniel Millstone, Duke of Warwick would rather be alone and tinkering with his machines, while Adeline Foster just wants to live a quiet life in the country and practice the healing arts, but circumstances force them to pretend they are courting. This way, Daniel can remove himself from the marriage mart, and Adeline is spared an arranged marriage she has no say in. What they do not count on, is deeper feelings emerging between them, despite the inauspicious start to their relationship.

Review

This is my first book by Tina Gabrielle and this, along with the fact that the female cover model seemed to be an Asian woman, made me very excited to jump into this story.

The first few chapters told me that Adeline's father was an English earl and her mother was the daughter of an Arab rug merchant, so there are expressions of her heritage scattered across the story (henna, za'atar, dolma, use of aloe vera for medicinal purposes, habibti, etc.). Adeline does experience bigotry, especially from her half-brother Edwin, the new earl. It was personally a little uncomfortable for me to read, but I got through it. In contrast, Daniel whole-heartedly embraces Adeline's culture and even takes part in it.

This is a classic fake-dating (fake courtship) story. The hero especially just wants to be removed from the marriage mart and the match-making machinations of his godmother. Their initial bargain is to keep up their ruse for the Season, and then go their separate ways. Obviously, it doesn't work out so easily, especially when feelings get involved.

Tina also really goes into the weeds when it comes to Daniel and Adeline's respective hobbies. There are multiple scenes where Adeline is given an opportunity to help people who are ill, and as for Daniel, uh... I will say this: trying to invent a steam-powered engine sounds a lot more impressive than a lawnmower.... or a self-tying corset 😂. But taking an interest in each others' passions is basically the tip-off point for their relationship, which I did think was cute. Like, he bought her an apron so she doesn't get bloodstains on her skirt! Their first kiss happens after they use the newfangled stethoscope on each other! She gets jealous about a lady mathematician and is all "have they shared more than FORMULAS?". It's great.

The sex:

I think the sex scenes were in all the right places— like sure, Adeline and Daniel were attracted to one another pretty early on, but it didn't make sense for their characters to have sex until they knew one another better, and that too, it's something they (Adeline especially, as a woman) choose of their own volition to have, outside the bounds of their courtship. The sex itself was nothing super stand-out.

Overall:

How Not To Marry A Duke wasn't personally for me, but if you're looking for a light read with diverse characters and feminist undertones, then I think you will enjoy this book.

Soo I was looking at the future line up possibility for Prema… I thought I could share my thoughts.

Ollie Bearman – Announced to drive for Haas F1. Pretty predictable after his performance in Jeddah. Baky confirmed that he is ready for F1 and for the car he’s gonna get.

Kimi Antonelli – Announced to drive for Mercedes F1. It was almost certain with Toto pushing him. I’m kinda worried we’ll end up with a Logan type of situation but I’m still confident in his skills.

Arvid Lindblad – Announced to drive for Campos F2. It appears that Redbull Junior team and Campos have some sorts of arrangements so it’s a logical thing.

PREMA 2025 LINE-UP

F2

Gabriele Mini – Remarkable drive this season, I’m still gutted about the championship. Prema will likely keep him.

Dino Beganovic – I know it’s unlikely, the streets are saying that he’s going to less expensive team because of a lack of fund. But Prema might still try to keep him since they don’t have anyone else to sign in F2. (I’m trying to manifest it)

F3

Rafael Camara – He is absolutely crashing the FRECA championship so it’s just a logical step up for him. Plus, the Ferrati Driver Academy seems to be close with Prema.

James Wharton – He is in a really good position in the FRECA championship and has already made his F3 debut.

Alex Powell/Freddie Slater – Okay so this the complicated part. Freddie is MaxVerstappen2023-ing the Italian F4 championship and should go directly to F3. But he doesn’t have an academy backing… I think it’s by choice and good for him but without an academy backing him, trying to skip a level might be hard. So, my second guess is Alex Powell. Mercedes junior since a long time, he made his debut in single seater this year in Italian f4 and has shown really good results. He has multiple podiums in overall championship, several rookie wins, he is now leader of the rookie championship and 5th in overall. For comparison, Arvid Lindblad had 8 rookie wins, 4 pole positions and 6 wins in the whole season. Right now, with still two rounds left, Alex has 8 rookie wins, 5 podiums and 1 pole position. My other argument is that Mercedes might not want two drivers in the same championship which leads me to the next point.

FRECA

Rashid Al Dhaheri/Kean Nakamura Berta – Rashid had a good performance from him in F4. Good contender for a freca seat. Kean also had a really good performance especially for a rookie and with the help of Alpine he might go up.

This is where it gets complicated again.

Doriane Pin and Maya Weug could continue F1A since they are only in their first season. But they both had FRECA experience (Doriane currently, Maya in 2023 plus a round this year), and looking at their results in F1A this year, they could manage a transition towards FRECA. Doriane is likely to do so, continuing with Iron Dames or maybe switching to Prema. Maya could maybe transition with PREMA also.

And this where my point from earlier could take place. If Doriane continues in FRECA, Alex might not be on the FRECA line up especially if she continues with PREMA. Mercedes might not want two drivers in the same championship.

So third seat, either Alex Powell/Freddie Slater– So for the first two it’s the same argument as before. Freddie might not be able to jump directly to F3 and Alex might go here if Freddie get the seat.

F4

Honestly here guys, I have no idea. Tomass is likely to stay maybe with Kean and Dion. Prema might do the same as they did recently with Oleksandr Bondarev and bring Luna Fluxa in after she turn 15.

F1 Academy

Tina Haussman – Likely to stay for a second season. She hasn’t had the best luck in this season so she couldn’t prove her talent.

Nina Gademan – she’s likely to take a seat in F1A after her impressive debut.

Theres not enough people talking about how Prema is going to have a huge lineup change next year in all their categories and its lowkey stressing me out

F2

With Ollie leaving for Haas this frees up one seat for next season and nobody knows currently if Kimi is leaving for F1 next year or staying in f2. If Kimi does end up leaving that means Prema can move up 2 drivers (probs from f3) and have an entirely new line up or if he stays they can move up one f3 driver

F3

W/ Gabriele and Dino both on their 2nd year of f3 they're more than likely gonna be looking for an f2 seat next season and Arvid has had an amazing season but I doubt he'll be moved up bc he's a rookie. So if Kimi stays in f2 theres only one seat available for either Dino or Gabriele and the one who doesn't get picked will more than likely jump teams to get into f2 like Arthur and Paul. But if Kimi leaves 2/3 of the f3 lineup gets a promotion.

Freca/Formula regional by Alpine:

The only one in their second year is Rafa Camara who is currently running away with the championship, so he'll more than likely be moved up to f3 or something next year. James wharton and Ugo Ugochukwu are only in their first year, so they won't be moving. Though I wish Maya could've been put into freca again and not just f1a

Italian f4:

They literally have 6 drivers wtf. Nakamura-Berta, Stolcermanis and Powell are all rookies, so they won't be looking to move up next season. Which leaves Al Dhaheri, Gowda and Slater available but seeing as only Freddie Slater is the only "vet" top 5 in the standings hes the only one I see moving up to freca. But then again Italian f4 is also hard af so they're not exactly shitty, so they might end up jumping teams to got to freca.

F1a/F1 Academy:

Man I honestly have no idea what the fuck they're doing w/ the girls especially w/ the 2 year limit, probs drop them ngl. Maya should be in freca again alongside Dorianne smh

Predictions for Next Year’s Prema Seats

Wanted to put my thoughts out there (I know Ugo was already announced but I'm just curious how close I'll be with this)

FIA Formula 1 (I know Prema isnt racing in f1 just put this here cuz im going based on this year's Prema teams)

Oliver Bearman -> Haas

Andrea Kimi Antonelli -> Mercedes

FIA Formula 2 

Gabriele Minì

Arvid Lindblad (Campos Racing)

Dino Beganovic (Not prema)

Honestly kind of the hardest to predict. I think MinÌ is the one that makes the most sense cuz he's already competed in an f2 race and had a pretty strong f3 season. Arvid has already been announced for Campos Racing. Dino is rumored to be having financial troubles so it's unclear if he'll be racing in f2 next year. If he can figure out finances, I can see him staying with prema. If he doesn't stay, I'm not too certain who prema would sign. Maybe they'd call up Rafa but that's kind of a far jump from FRECA (yes I know kimi just did that but......) Ofc they could choose another f2 driver or a maybe an f3 driver that's not currently with Prema but I dont know the rest of the grid well enough to say for certain

I think these just make the most sense based on their FRECA performance this past season. Finances allowing I can easily see them all continuing with Prema for F3

This one's also a little hard. I was thinking I don't just want to only have the guys moving up and FRECA is the next step after F1 Academy. Doriane and Maya have both had really strong F1 Academy seasons so I can see them moving up to FRECA. Doriane is currently competing with Iron Dames in FRECA so it could just be that she stays with Iron Dames. If Maya and Doriane don't move to FRECA, Kean and Tomass or maybe Rashid moving up to FRECA

Again, this is assuming that Maya and Doriane move up and compete with prema in FRECA. I can easily see Kean, Rashid, Tomass, and Dion sticking with prema (again finances and other things willing). Also, they're most likely gonna have Oleksandr Bondarev move up to f4. He's already racing with Prema in karting and he's already done an F4 race so like i will be SHOCKED if he doesn't move up to f4 with prema (though i guess, stranger things have happened in the 2024 motorsports world LOL)

F1 Academy

Again this is under the assumption that Maya and Doriane both move up to FRECA. The two of the could stay in F1 Academy since they're all in their first year of F1 Academy (and could even compete in FRECA cuz Doriane is doing it right now). But if they decide to leave F1 Academy, I can see prema signing Nina Gademan and Ella Lloyd. The two of them both raced as wild cards this season with prema and did pretty decently! Other than that, idk who else they'd sign since i really dont know karting and I don't think there's any women racing in Italian F4 that might move to F1 Academy

IndyCar

Callum Ilott

Robert Schartzman

Figured I should add Indycar since prema is going to be racing in indycar next year! Nothing super interesting predictions-wise since Callum has already been confirmed for next year. Robert is the main rumor for the other seat and I feel like that makes the most sense since he came up through f3 & f2 with prema.

Anyways, those are my predictions! Obviously, there's a lot of room for change and we don't really see a ton that's going on behind the scenes. Aside from finances, drivers might just decide that they don't want to race with prema anymore or maybe prema decides to drop them as drivers, it's so hard to say. I think especially as someone who literally just got into f1 this season, there's probably a ton i don't know about that might skew these predictions. ALSO i really don't know other drivers outside of prema so i don't really know if there's anyone vying for a prema seat but it's possible that non-prema drivers could sign with prema fo 2025. So I guess just think of these predictions as solely based on performances from this season and nothing else LOL

Excited to see what comes from these predictions and excited to continue to follow and cheer on prema in 2025!
