I wrote a mini-draft for this idea that might turn into an actual one-shot but just these for now. Second half is more shitpost than serious cause I really think Narinder would have to navigate a distrustful Lamb very carefully, and Lamb would mess with Bishop Narinder

KAKAIRU KIDS ARE TIME TRAVELING.

“Why are you sitting at Tou-chan’s desk?”

Tsunade stared at the kids. They were twins, probably around five or six. The girl intently glared at her while the boy waited for an answer.

“And who would that be?” she asked. “Your father?”

The boy blinked. 

“Hokage-Sama?” he said slowly. 

“Sandaime?”

“Rokudaime?”

Tsunade’s eyebrows flew to her hairline. Either some shinobi was walking around telling his kids he was the next Hokage, or she had a bigger, headache-inducing, problem on her hands. Looking at the twins and their oblivious dōjutsus, she was ready to bet a lot on the second option.

“What’s your name?”

“Jun. And this is Ren.” 

The kid pointed to his silent, but still angry-looking, sister, before he added, not without hesitation:

“You know us.”

Sometimes, Tsunade hated being right.

“Clan?”

“Hatake… Umino?”

Tsunade didn’t know if she was supposed to laugh or cry. However, she was distracted by the twins' sudden change of focus. They were both looking at the, technically invisible, ANBU on her left. It was impressive, after all, Eagle had barely shifted upon hearing the familiar surnames. Nothing that would have betrayed his presence to most people. 

But neither Kakashi nor Iruka-Sensei counted as “most people”.

“Hornet, tell Cat to bring me Kakashi-Sensei,” she said to seemingly no one. “Raccoon, get Iruka-Sensei.”

Tsunade sighed as both ANBU left the Tower. Both kids were looking at her when she opened her eyes again.

“Can you speak?” she asked the girl.

“I don’t know, can I?” Ren bit back.

The worst part was Tsunade wasn’t certain which one of her supposed parents she got the attitude from.

like. A traditional bully goes to the future for like. A day to a week. Learns about nonbinary, trans and other, and to automatically call people they. Who knows! Might become nonbinary

Eldritch Nika!!! I’ve always been fascinated with this idea ever since reading those fics where Nika is a separate entity (that may or may not have a an agenda of his own) and slowly influences Luffy to being a facsimile of himself. The You are my Sunshine and At the Gallows… are my favorites of Luffy being… slightly off and uncanny due to Gear 5/Devil Fruit. And all those “Gear 5 at Marineford” fics where everyone is horrified at the reality bending he does (Time Moves Through You being my favorite) are fantastic and big inspiration.

The lack of ancient time travel stories is existentially terrifying

Through all the ancient myths and legend that exist, it's horrifying to think that none involved traveling to the past. There were some with sped up time or people sleeping a long time. But travel to the past just wasn't a thing that existed as a concept.

Today, it's everywhere. There's not a single person who hasn't heard of time travel. But in ancient stories, even the gods themselves are subject to the whims of time.

It seems like such an obvious thing to tell stories about too. Who hasn't made a mistake and wished they could go back and do it over again? It's so basic.

Yet it's like through all of human history, nobody even considered it until the couple hundred years. It's as if the idea was so incomprehensible that we couldn't think of it.

Until, that is, after we did.

That makes you wonder though, what possibilities are out there that might still be so obvious be we haven't thought of yet? And why couldn't we think of time travel before then?

We all think of imagination as unlimited, and yet something as simple as getting a do-over on a past mistake is unheard of over thousands of years of fictional stories we've recorded.

the first time Zuko comes to face to face with the firebender that wears his face is on Kyoshi Island.

But that's not true. He had to have been the firebender they encountered in the Southern Water Tribe, who helped the Avatar escape his custody. Only he kept his face concealed then, hidden by war paint. He'd heard someone call him 'Li'.

(with his sole focus on the Avatar, he never noticed the way the villagers looked between him and the firebender.)

Zuko remembers his Uncle telling him spirit tales, what felt like long ago. He remembers the stories of doppelgangers that wear your face, except this doppelganger seems to have gotten it wrong- he's older, if only by a little, with a full head of hair- as if to mock the shame with which he'd had his own head shaved.

He fights like he knows all of his moves.

Zuko is ultimately forced to retreat from Kyoshi Island. His doppelganger escapes together with the Avatar and the two tribespeople. When he returns to his ship, he falls into a fitful sleep, with dreams full of lightning and eyes that look just like his.

He tells his Uncle about the doppelganger the next morning. The man gets a thoughtful look in his eyes, but reassures him that he will not let any harm befall him. Zuko bristles at the remark- he's not scared. He doesn't have anything to fear from the firebender who shares his face, especially not one working together with the Avatar.

(But maybe that's exactly what he fears the most.)

Obvious things that didn't happen by the end of Lower Decks and whether that was a good or bad thing:

Section 31 episode: Good. In fact I'll go further and say William Boimler should have been Starfleet Intelligence.

Time Travel episode: Bad. I know McMahan says he's anti time travel story but it feels weird having Lower Decks end being the only show without a time travel plot, unless you count Crisis Point.

Mariner and Freeman on the Enterprise: Bad. giving them a more firm placement would have been very nice for the lore of both shows and is so heavily implied as to may as well be true anyways.

Marinler: Good. Shipping is fine but I personally like that their relationship is a deeper one that doesn't have to be defined by explicit romance.

Tendiford: Neutral, in that really their dynamic probably wouldn't change, and this was always more explicitly romantic anyways.

Appearance from Picard: Bad. McMahan disagrees but I think the show could have pulled it off actually. He says that Picard couldn't be true to himself with the tone of the show but I'm rewatching Brooklyn Nine Nine and realising he couldnt be more wrong.

NCC-1701-E Captain: Bad. On a related note, the finale focusing on the Lower Decks cast is good, but showing the Enterprise-E but not who pilots it was a big miss.

Mariner's Love Life outside of Jennifer: Neutral. No reappearance from Captain Ramsey, or Petra Aberdeen? Missed opportunity but at the same time it's not that kind of show, which is why I'm happy that relationship stuff didnt take over the show with the main 4. Plus, the Jennifer progression and conclusion was nice.

Mariner and T'Lyn didnt have a big sloppy kiss and then they date with their natural chemistry that is far above T'Lyn's chemistry with the rest of the cast. Seriously they'd be so good together and I enjoy the headcanon and while I'm not the biggest shipper I am SO ride or die on this one: Bad, obviously

Have been thinking about the glade Thomas vs post-last-city Thomas post. What if post-last-city Thomas PHYSICALLY time travelled to the past, where his younger self still exists in that timeline?

I feel that all the “hiding identity” and “no one believes him” things in normal time travel AU can be skipped. The Gladers will face the “two Thomas” situation immediately (Plus WCKD if they are still in the Glade). Chaos is guaranteed.

Aside from a much different plot, imagine how the emotion part would be. Now there is post-last-city Thomas, who no longer restrains his feelings toward Newt; Glade Thomas, who is confused but also has some realisation; and Newt, who is overwhelmed by this sudden unexpected reciprocation from Thomas, and unsure how to deal with two different versions of Thomas. I can smell the angst coming
