Halloween Movie 8 “Beetlejuice”

Eighth in my Halloween Movie List is “Beetlejuice''.

Released in 1988, ''Beetlejuice'' is a horror-comedy about a recently deceased couple, the Maitlands who find their beloved home sold to a New York family. To their dismay, the Deetzs go about remolding their home into an example of postmodern art. Seeking help is scaring the Deetz away, the Maitlands call upon Beetlejuice, a self-proclaimed bio-exorcist in getting rid of the Deetzs. A friendship between the Maitlands and the Deetz's daughter Lydia soon forms but Beetlejuice is determined to show why he the ''Ghost with the Most.''

Tim Burton did a wonderful job with this movie. It shows his trademark humor and macabre style while making you laugh. The horror is never scary, just completely over the top. Instead of showing the afterlife as a scary place, Burton shows it like the DMV, having to take a number and wait to be called on while having handle with bureaucracy and endless red tape.

The highlight for many is the dinner scene where the Deetzs and their guest find themselves dancing to by Harry Belafonte's Day-O.
