TW: Sucide, toxic relationship, slavery, abuser and victim
My biggest pet peeve with stans regardless of the fandom they are in is always "you would've like female character if they were a man" No. Just stop.
If you want the biggest example of everyone hating on a male character even if they swap genders is none other than GOT Jeffrey.
That spoiled brat has no irredeemable qualities he's just a spoiled stuck up brat who everyone cheered when he died.
HOWEVER im not saying that there ISNT any misogyny towards female character/villains because no matter what fandom you are in there will be misogyny most towards fandom that has a large male fanbase (example Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Assassin's Creed, etc.)
Having a valid reason to hate a female character/villain is NOT misogyny. I hate Neo because the shows wants us to feel sorry for her because she didn't know what to do after Roman's death but are we forgetting an episode ago she DROVE RUBY TO SUCIDE USING PEOPLE SHE KNOW and then she redeemed herself by killing Cat?
FUCK THAT!
Regardless if Neo was a male anyone who drove someone to sucide will never be liked by me or anyone else.
Here's another one Leonora from Castlevanina is hated because she made Hector a slave and saw him as a pet yet she started to develop feelings for him the more time she spent with him. And many people are disgusted because 1) she enslaved Hector and then develop have feelings and 2) because of the obvious power imbalance/relationship of the abuser and victim.
If a character has a trait that triggers the audience or they don't like them for any actions then they can have a reason why they dislike not. I have many female characters that I hate with valid criticism just how much I hate male characters for that same reason.
Yeah, here's the thing, if I actually thought that anti-rwde posters were honestly concerned about misogyny, I would be very sympathetic.
Every single time a piece of media so much as passes the Bechdol test or has a woman that never wears a bikini, there are a bunch of misogynistic idiots and dudebros who hate it or those women. And in the modern day, only hardcore Trump supporters are out here out and out saying that they hate women and are misogynists and that's why they hate whatever it is they're ranting against. People do very much so use perfectly valid (or not so valid) "real criticisms" because they don't want to say the honest truth, or because they themselves wouldn't recognize their own misogyny. Recognizing that just because someone SAYS they hate a female character because of an action that they did doesn't mean they're not a misogynist is kind of important. The guys who harassed the actress of Rose Tico off of Twitter all hid behind 'valid reasons' for their criticism too.
But here's the thing:
1. It's important to be able to figure out what is and isn't actually a sign of misogyny. There's not a precise rule, but you can do things like see if the thing they hate is an exception or the rule, or see if they're hypocritical about their reasons, or see what kind of language people use. If they come around with "brat" "bitch" "cunt" for female characters, that's a red flag at best!! But yeah, ANY criticism of that kind of thing isn't automatically misogynistic. It's like yeah, a bunch of misogynists hated Taurial in the Hobbit because she's a woman and yes they disguised that by claiming it was for other reasons, but there ARE very valid criticisms and complaints about Taurial and you have to be willing to hear out those things instead if just blanket assigning 'misogyny.' Lots of things from Arcane to something as bad as Twilight has perfectly valid haters that are fine, and then also a bunch of misogynists that are going to pretend or really think they have valid reasons. Somone being unable to tell the two apart probably means that person is too close to the situation and too defensive, but these critics don't want to admit that maybe they're wrong.
2. If this was something like Steven Universe, then the defensiveness would make more sense. If it were a well written slow burn with a cast of characters with well rounded dynamics that the writers put work into and the show was about rebels trying to fight the system for a peaceful life and the show had never sexualized the women and there was hard-fought for groundbreaking queer rep and it was created by a Jewish bisexual non-binary woman, and there were mistakes and valid criticisms of the series, but also a lot of unjustified venom of nothing but bad-faith... Then we'd be having a different conversation. Instead it's a show about badge-carrying law enforcement officers, who fight the evil civil rights group from upsetting the status quo, in a show that has tons of things just 'happen off screen,' with a history of sexualizing some of the main female characters, that only recently confirmed any main character as queer years behind the curve, and that was created by and mostly written for by a bunch of straight cis men most of them having said or done misogynistic things. Anti-rwde posters like to pretend that there's no reason why a great completely non-problematic misunderstood stand-up show like RWBY made with love by the totally not at all a part of RT "CRWBY" should be hated, and therefore it must be because of misogyny, but they aren't living in reality.
3. Most anti-rwde posters actually don't really care about misogyny and they aren't actually basing this on - for lack of a better word - good faith. They don't care about Jaune harem fics or the fanarts of RWBY girls with giant breasts in bikinis, and they don't call out the writers or even RT for their bigotry, and they have quite literally Trump supporters that post anti-rwde stuff, but none of that matters. Instead they spend their time harassing a group of mostly queer women for *checks notes* criticizing a show written by mostly men.
So yeah. I've seen misogyny in rwde posters tbh, and I don't think that "I have valid reasons for disliking them" is always proof that there isn't misogyny at play, but the anti-rwde accusations are nothing, because not only are they blind to the flaws of the show and the writers and are unable to recognize the difference between misogyny and just criticism, but also they're only using these accusations as a screen anyway, because they only ever go after rwde posters with it and are unwilling to call out the blatant misogyny in the rest of the fandom, in the show, or in the writers room. I would take this seriously if I thought this was an actual concern of theirs, but it isn't. They don't actually care about misogyny, they just want their show to be above criticism.
(By the way, I've never seen Game of Thrones or Castlevania so I can't speak to it, and also I like Neo a lot lol. XD Personally for me, villains doing bad things doesn't typically blacklist them for me so long as they're entertaining.)

Frost
For monday's Winter Wonders microfic prompt on @gingerrose-hub
Hux’ gaze rested in the snow-covered landscape in front of the window, the pathetic defoliated trees and the stubborn evergreens, feeling a certain kinship with both.
“I always preferred cold temperatures, but, like all weather, loved snow best through a thick transparisteel pane”, he mused.
“You’re missing out”, Rose claimed, all the while pulling the gaberwool blanket tighter around them both. “Nothing like the feeling of coming back in from a snowball fight!”
“To a hot, soapy bath?”
“And to hot chocolate!”
Rose chipped another piece off the slate of milk chocolate they were sharing in their makeshift tent on the mattress behind the thick transparisteel pane.
“That’s not chocolate!” Hux protested. “It’s an abomination made from sugar canes that maybe grew on the same continent as a cocoa plant. But I’m afraid I’m giving the planters too much credit in this regard. Make it “same planet”.”
“What if the chocolate wasn’t New Republic made? What would be the verdict then, ey?”
“One word: More!”
“Feel free to keep the whole bar.”
With these words Rose slid out of the blanket-tent, crossed the short distance to the barrier and waved her hand in front of a sensor. The snowy landscape disappeared, once again revealing what was really behind the see-through wall: The floor of a New Republic High Security prison. Maybe somewhere behind the outer walls was Hoth… Hux had no idea where exactly he was.
These people had taken everything from him: Starkiller. His First Order. Even his drawing pens. Rose returning to them after visiting hour felt like a betrayal. Curse the Resistance, curse them for making him feel even the slightest seed of hatred for Rose Tico!
Who needed actual frost to feel cold…

Fic Writer Questions
Tagged by @liesmyth 💜💜💜
how many works do you have on AO3?
252 works in total!
what's your total ao3 word count?
Just over 412k!
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Still at the top is Untitled Zuko and the Goose Fic, my crack crossover between Avatar: the Last Airbender and Untitled Goose Game. What You're Made Of, my crossover between Batman: WFA and Percy Jackson, where Steph is a daughter of Hermes, is in second place, which really makes me happy-- that story isn't perfect but I really like it. Then Ample Opportunity (Star Wars x Dreaming of Sunshine crossover) and til you find what you're hunting for (Harry Potter x Dreaming of Sunshine crossover), and finally as you are, as you were (Captain Marvel, Carol/Maria).
do you respond to comments? why or why not?
Yes!!! I try to respond to all of my comments, although I know there's a batch I just let go in the middle of a major depressive episode. I like to encourage people to comment more and to try to connect to people who like my work! It really makes me happy when I see the same people showing up in my comments (or even kudos) regularly.
what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
I tend toward hopeful endings, but I think my angstiest ending would probably be Between Moments, a canon-compliant Star Wars: ST Poe Dameron/Paige Tico fic. It's incredibly short (like a lot of my fics, especially my older fics), but I think it packs a punch.
what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have pretty happy endings! But the one that immediately comes to mind is Back Here for Trouble Again, my MCU time travel fic in which Darcy Lewis accidentally goes back in time and tries to avert the events of Infinity War and Endgame. It's a somewhat open ending, but it's hopeful. I'd probably also have to say fake it til you make it (til it's true), my Protector of the Small fic set post-Lady Knight in which Kel and Neal are fake dating. It's very sweet and fluffy and there's lots of appearances from all of my favorite characters from the PotS quartet (my favorite Tamora Pierce series).
do you write crossovers?
Glances up at top 5 fics by kudos. Yeah, all the time. I think my favorites would have to be Flux (Narnia x X-Men, Susan/Magneto), Barnes and Noble (Doctor Who x MCU, Bucky Barnes & Donna Noble), and Sink or Swim (Narnia x Pirates of the Caribbean, Susan/Elizabeth). If we're counting fusions and not just straight crossovers, I'd also include other things alive, my Secret Garden TLT fusion fic in which Mary Lennox and Colin Craven are a necromancer and cavalier of the Seventh House, and The Worthwhile Fight, my Star Wars: ST Pacific Rim fusion fic in which Poe Dameron and Rey are jaeger pilots.
have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not really. I don't know if it's my pairings or my lack of popularity or what, but I've been lucky enough to escape getting hate. (I did once get a comment on FFN asking "but why did they kiss?" but that was just funny to me, especially since the summary had said it was a shipfic.)
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I do!!! I don't know how to classify it... I think when it's good it manages to be character/relationship study, sometimes with kink?
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of
have you ever had a fic translated?
A couple of times! I have a blanket permission statement on my ao3 profile letting people know that they can remix, podfic, translate, create art, or create secondary fanwork of any of my fanworks; I just want them to link back to my work.
have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not; I don't think I would enjoy it. I like bouncing ideas off of people, but I'm very possessive of my actual work.
what's your all-time favorite ship?
Oh God, where do I even begin. If we're talking about the ships that I imprinted on and that changed my psyche forever: Rikki/Zane from H2O and Veronica/Logan from Veronica Mars both set the blueprint for het ships I tend to enjoy: class differences, snarky banter, asshole dude who tries to do better (sometimes)... When it comes to femslash it's a lot harder to pick a favorite or a definitive ship; I'm all over the board with femslash ships.
what's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Most of my old MCU ideas. I was just looking at one the other day about post-Endgame Natasha ending up in a different world with the Avengers right after they defeated Loki, and it's a fun idea, but I just don't want to revisit the MCU these days.
what are your writing strengths?
I think I'm pretty good at dialogue! I think I'm also pretty good at what I call "high concept crack treated seriously"-- you know, a goose adopting Zuko or Matt Damon finding himself with an acting gig on Asgard. I also like to think I'm funny.
what are your writing weaknesses?
Description. I'm very bad at picturing things in my head, so I have to go back and do another pass (or two or three) on every fic to make sure I've described at least a few things.
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
It depends; why are you using it? Does it make sense if the reader can't read the language? Does it make sense if the reader can read the language (did you just Google translate this shit?) If the POV characters doesn't understand what's being said and you don't know the language the characters are speaking and there's no narrative reason to include it, it's perfectly fine to just say "They spoke to each other in French" or something.
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
First I ever wrote was for Nickelodeon's Victorious. First I posted to Ao3 was for CW's Arrow. (No matter how far I go, I always end up back in DC superhero fandom.)
what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
There's SO many ships I still haven't written for, even in my current main fandom. But the next big idea that isn't currently on the docket is a Xena/Percy Jackson crossover.
what's your favourite fic you've written?
Oh God, so many. I've already named some of them above, but as for some others... In Memoriam is a Star Wars: PT fic focused on Padme and her handmaidens with lots of Naboo worldbuilding and epistolary and other elements. Thaw is a Zorii Bliss backstory and character study with lots of worldbuilding. same set of questions, all different answers is a Reylo dimension travel fic in which Rey and Kylo meet counterparts that are married. it's not what you've lost but it's what you find is a DC comics fic about Mia Dearden and Emiko Queen about them getting stranded and travelling through time and space. tried to wash you away but you just won't leave is a Dinah Lance/Lady Shiva enemies-to-lovers fic that I think manages to capture just a little bit of their twisty, complex obsession with each other.

Part Six
She wanted to take a chunk out of him. He could see it in the hungry slant of her mouth; in the sharp fixation of her gaze. No doubt Commander Tico would be professionally satisfied if the Order and the Resistance could settle on a mutually beneficial peace agreement, but that wasn’t all she wanted. Not deep down.
No, deep down, beneath the politely-vague niceties and the crisply-pressed fatigues— no doubt scraped of mud and filth for this specific meeting— she fancied the notion of utterly and completely destroying him. Burned with it, really, and Hux could hardly blame her.
She’d been right, he’d read her file. Knew all about her home planet, her sister’s enlistment, and subsequent death, of her startling proficiency and meteoric rise in rank. Quick with a spanner, tactical under pressure, unwilling to pull punches— literally. No wonder Leia Organa had chosen her as the Resistance’s figurehead now that the old woman was in failing health.
His gaze flicked toward Solo. The question was, was Tico aware that the Senator was Organa’s estranged son?
“You’re not even paying attention,” Tico scoffed as he reluctantly reaffixed his attention onto where she sat with her arms crossed like an upstart ensign he would be all too eager to discipline.
“I’m listening,” he intoned darkly.
They’d already covered Articles 3 and 4: Territorial Control and Humanitarian Assistance, respectively. Both the Resistance and First Order would recognize the existing territorial boundaries in the Outer Rim and both would pool their resources and personnel to assist civilians affected by the conflict and rebuild infrastructure.
It caused him deep, corrosive pain to accept that this was where the war had led them, but the galaxy had equalized; their forces were evenly matched. What he could do now, if not conquer, was mitigate the Order’s losses. Senator Solo straightened in his chair.
“We’ve come to Article Five: Article 5: War Crimes and Accountability.” Tico’s mouth twitched.
“This the part where General Hux agrees to deliver himself to us in stun cuffs?” He snorted. “If by that you mean a prisoner exchange. I’m sure the Senate would love it if you came quietly, Commander.” Finally landing a blow, rage flickered over her pretty, indignant features.
“Me?! That’s rich!”
Hux could feel the rush of his own blood in his ears. “Under /your/ command, Cobalt Squadron fired on a Destroyer carrying a segment of our Academy. Children were on that ship. The Senate certainly considers *that* a crime.”
He watched the realization land like a blow. Before Tico could launch herself over the table, Solo put out a hand. “Why don’t we take a break?”
Rose was out of her chair before he’d even finished speaking, whirling around to stalk angrily out onto the apartment's terrace.
Hux waited a moment before standing. Solo gave him a warning look.
“Leave it, Hux.”
Ignoring the other man’s words, he followed through the terrace door. Outside, the storm had broken in the hours previous, leaving the city fridged and damp under a blanket of cold, glittering stars.

The Traditional Costa Rican Masquerade Continuing the sense of mockery inherited from the aborigines, the first masquerades sought to represent figures of authority on a humiliating and picturesque plane; the wealthy and wealthy Spanish woman, the devil (also called Cuijén or Pisuicas), death (Ñata, Ñatica or Calaca), the policeman and the peasant. Locals found it amusing to see these figures of power running and dancing through the streets, with their huge heads and dressed in blankets. Those five figures stand out as the most traditional "Mantudos", but little by little other masks were created representing both prominent characters of the town (the bishop, the drunkard, the cook), as well as legends or Costa Rican traditions: the Segua, the Cadejo, the Headless Father, the Llorona, the Tulevieja, the Mica, among others. Currently, some masqueraders make their works inspired by nationally or internationally recognized people (athletes, presidents, journalists, etc.) and characters from popular culture; musicians, cartoons, characters from series or movies, to name a few examples. However, many artisans do not agree with this, as they say that popular figures lack the sense of tradition and autochthonous belonging of the Tico. Source: Sicultura *Black is not included because being black is not a costume.

so rose is from an ice planet, while rey is from the desert and poe from the tropics (and finn is probably trained for all climates tho that stormtrooper armor looks really warm so he’s used to higher temps). hc that everyone keeps trying to bundle her up and offering her jackets (and Sharing The Jacket has become their shorthand for family) and Rose keeps refusing because it’s freaking hot okay she’s sweating buckets and the rest are dismayed and subconsciously it’s because it feels like a rejection but eventually rose figures it out and accepts the jacket and they all cuddle the end
#sw#i want her parading around in a tank top and poe rey and finn trailing her with arms full of blankets and shit#and shes like... that's nice what i need is a fan tho thanks#rose tico

wooo currently on the road rn and I’m gonna be for a while so I’m gonna drop some miscellaneous hcs I’ve been thinking abt. feel free to gimme some hcs too I get the feeling I’m gonna be very bored for the next 20 hours
- in one of the wild fang episodes, I think Madoka mentions that Vulcan horuseus has a very unique fusion wheel and energy ring so I like to think that Nile designed them himself
- an idea I thought was neat is that the reason karura wears all those bandages is because he’s got a ton of burn scars that he’s covering up. At the time of canon, he’s memorized the exact patterns of the terrain and fire bursts around DNA’s base, but that must’ve taken a lot of trial and error to figure out, so I imagine he’s probably got a good couple scars to show for that
- sakyo at some point starts occasionally calling takanosuke “taka” and he tries to be casual about it but people start teasing him once they pick up on that
- on that note, I really like to think that even though sakyo tries to be super cool and intimidating even after he’s technically become friends with everyone, no one else really takes him that seriously and none of them hesitate to make fun of him
- I’ve talked abt this so much before and I will never stop talking abt it I love the main friend group of shogun steel (Zyro Shinobu ren and kite). They’re all incredibly silly together and I think even though they make fun of each other all the time, they’re very openly affectionate and comfortable with each other. Also, even thought they’re all very smart and capable people in their own respects by themselves, together, the collective iq instantly drops. All of them are constantly fighting for custody of the singular collective braincell they share
- on the note of shogun steel friend groups, I’ve talked abt this idea with shekel a bit and I love it dearly, dna/bttf all share an apartment post-canon. It goes about as well as you would expect. Very constant clashing personalities and arguments, balancing different food preferences while grocery shopping, all of them have different sleep cycles and half of them are basically nocturnal, genjuro’s the only one who even vaguely resembles a functional human being, it’s a mess and they wouldn’t trade it for anything.
- baihu is the one person who doesn’t have a designated sleeping spot. Technically he has his own little blanket and pillow den in one of the closets but mostly he just goes where he so pleases and no one has any power to stop him. Sometimes he sleeps on top of the kitchen cabinets, sometimes on the floor. Sometimes the others wake up with him sleeping on top of them, sometimes they (mostly spike. I think he’d be a heavy sleeper) wake up on the floor with him in their beds instead. I’m not convinced he hasn’t somehow slept on the roof at least once.
In light of the recent uptick in second gen characters n stuff, I’ve been thinking abt some ideas with some of the other characters.
- Zeo is very much in the camp of not wanting kids because he does not trust himself enough to raise another human being. He and the rest of team dungeon would already have their hands full enough as is with all of the new dungeon gym kids also.
- I don’t think King and Masamune would mind having kids though. They’d be surprisingly functional parents i think. Toby and Zeo would be good babysitters.
- Benkei I think would want kids of his own, but already feels fulfilled enough with all the shogun steel kiddos, and is probably also too busy running bull burger and the bey park to think about it.
- Axyl and Chao Xin settle for pets over human children. They have a ragdoll cat called Muddy Mittens (Axyl’s idea) and a chocolate lab named Tico (Chao Xin’s idea. He seems like a chocolate lab kind of guy yk?). Axyl also wanted pet rats but decided that would not be a good idea with Mud. Essi meanwhile is disgusted that her sibling has become a “no real kids just fur babies” adult.
#axel’s silly little thoughts#i will probably add to this if I think of any more ideas later#fun fact: muddy mittens is what I named my cat in a Minecraft world I had with my friends 2 years ago#and I got so attached that I have called minecraft ragdoll cats muddy mittens since

On the other side of the hold Rose lay in the Falcon’s relief bunk, a diagnostic scanner monitoring her vital signs, while Finn rummaged in the compartments beneath the bunks. They were filled with junk, of courseas Leia and Rey watched, he shoved aside batteries, old tools, and a scattering of ancient books until he finally found what he was looking for, extracting a blanket and gently draping it over Rose’s sleeping form. Rey turned from watching Finn to show Leia what she’d been holding in her hands—the halves of Luke’s sundered lightsaber. — Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition by Jason Fry

maybe a little more oh the things we left behind epilogue fluff??? ;u; i know the entire epilogue was fluff but i am insatiable
yes very good thinking anon and sorry for the long wait my brain is just a heap of goo right now but here we go - some ottwlb fluff set between the Mandalorian war and the very last scene of the fic, a small compilation of how Din found the rest of their family:
oh the things we found
small TW for mentions of blood and trauma
Din doesn't in any way plan on becoming a magnet for Force-sensitive children, he really doesn't, but it happens regardless, something about his unique combination of Force-null beskar, Force-conduit darksaber, and Force-bond husband drawing them in like moths to a flame.
He finds Rey first, on a recon mission out to Jakku, casing a distress signal from a lost covert. She can't be any older than Ben, who is seven now and an absolute terror, but in comparison to him, she doesn't listen to Din one bit, her whole life just a series of defying the authority figures around her. She dangles from a rope above him, in the hollowed-out remains of an Imperial Star Destroyer, sticking out her tongue at him. "I'm not coming with you!" she declares while Din tries to position himself in a way that will allow him to catch her if she slips. "I'm waiting for my family. They're coming to get me!"
He doesn't have the heart to tell her no one in their right mind would ever willingly come back to a place like Jakku. He places all his rations, most of his credits, and, just for good measure, some bacta spray on the ground below her like he's making some offering to an ancient feral god and leaves with an ache in his chest.
"She won't come with me," he complains to Luke later, pacing up and down in the living area of the Mudhorn while Luke brews tea. They don't technically live in the Mudhorn anymore, have their own quarters in the ruins of Yavin's temple, but they always end up here regardless, whenever one of them comes back from a mission, whenever they need it to be just the two of them, away from everyone's worries.
Luke hands him a steaming cup and places a soft kiss on his temple. "Don't worry," he says, in that cryptic tone of his, the one he uses to tease Din when he's being daft about something that's impossible for him to know. "She will." And that's that.
Din goes back. Once, twice, three times, until the sparse crowd of locals looks at him with pity in their eyes. She does come with him eventually, after his eighths visit, when he draws the darksaber on a dune beast and turns around to find her looking at him with the type of recognition in her eyes that he's only ever seen in the way Luke looks at Ben and Grogu.
"She's like you," he accuses when Luke greets them at the bottom of the Mudhorn's ramp, Rey perched high on his shoulders, her arms wrapped around his helmet so tight it's hard for him to see. Luke just smiles and reaches out so Rey can tentatively take his hand. The change is instant - as soon as their palms touch her whole body relaxes as if something in her is finally at peace and Din has to reach up to keep her from sliding off his shoulders. And well. That's that.
Finn is next, standing tall in front of a group of terrified kids, in a backroom of the imperial laboratory they just raided, his eyes ablaze and lips turned up into a snarl. "I'll fight you," he snaps even as Din can see his hands shaking around the mop he fished out of the supply closet as a makeshift weapon. "I'm not scared, I'll fight you!" And really all Din can do in response is pull his helmet off and fall to his knees with his hands raised above his head.
It seems to work because he gets all of them into the Mudhorn eventually, Finn curled up on the copilot's seat, staring out in wonder at the endless expanse of space while the rest of the kids are rolled up into every available blanket in the captain's quarter. It's a bit of a rough start - where Rey felt turmoil because of the things swirling inside her without guidance, all Finn has ever known is supervision and people telling him to be something he's not, his connection to the Force tempered down in all the wrong places, too silent and too loud all at the same time, and in the first weeks, Din spends a lot of time hugging him close to the beskar plating of his chest, taking strolls under the quietness of Yavin's trees like he used to do with Ben. Finn quiets eventually, just as Rey did, the two of them getting on like a house on fire.
Shara is the one who brings Paige and Rose Tico, two sisters left stranded and alone by the still raging unrest of the remnants of war, and there is barely a discussion before she decides to take them in herself, the two of them glued to Poe the second they step off Shara's ship.
He finds Armitage last, standing over the dead body of an Imperial officer, blood on his hands and all across his face, just a sliver of yellow in the green of his eyes. Din has bruises on his arms for a week from how hard the kid strains against him as he tries to drag him out of the Star Destroyer before it self-destructs, but he figures, all things considered, they'll be able to handle that too.
He turns out to be a menace, of course, too smart for his own good, and way too stubborn to let Ben get away with his teasing, which always seems to end up Luke and Din having to physically drag them away from each other. Din tries to do for him what he did for everyone else, to hold him close and comfort him, but he only ever succeeds in the quiet of the night when he finds him at the very top of the temple wrapped up tightly in Luke's arms, both of them holding onto each other for dear life, eyes red-rimmed and cheeks tear-stained, darkness hanging around them like rain clouds.
Armitage takes a shine to Bo-Katan though, amidst all of his defiance, a fact that seems to confuse her as much as it does Din, and he knows that that will probably spell disaster in the future given how fast and feral Armitage takes to swinging a lightsaber, but to his relieve the Armorer steps up to pull him to her workshop by the back of his neck and balances the murder in his eyes with ever-evolving engineering challenges.
And so it takes a bit, quite a while in fact, but they find their balance eventually, their weird ever-growing family, all of them slotting into each other in a way that sometimes makes Din wonder if this was their doing too, Luke's and his, if in bending the universe around them, and in becoming one in the Force they somehow became a beacon for all those who are lost.
He wonders about it on the nights when, even after Han settles down on Yavin more or less permanently to be closer to Ben, and even after Paz bashfully asks to officially adopt Rey who's been glued to his shoulders for months, and even after Armitage makes it very clear that he doesn't plan to ever be adopted by anyone, Luke comes back from an excursion to find Din pilled into their bed with a bunch of wayward Foundlings.
"Sorry," Din mumbles sleepily as Luke steps over a snoring Paz who's taken up guard in the hallway, "It just happened."
"Is there room for one more?"
"Unlikely," Din sighs as he always does, but Luke finds a spot anyways, shuffling the kids around until they are just awake enough to demand a story from him.
"It's late," Luke smiles as Din pulls him closer to lean their foreheads together in greeting, Grogu climbing up from where he was tucked beneath Ben's chin to settle in between his dads. "I'll tell you all about it tomorrow."
"Just one!" Rey pleads from her spot at Din's side, Finn's head popping up behind her in a show of support and Luke raises a warning eyebrow as Poe and Rose scoot closer from where they were sprawled over Din's legs. "You always say we need to be curious about the world around us!"
"It will help us sleep," Armitage argues from his spot at the end of the bed, the one he takes to pretend he doesn't care about any of this, and starts scooting close too, shoving at Ben to make space.
"They make a good point," Din interjects gently and pulls Armitage out of the way and between them before Ben can get up enough to headbutt him with Din's helmet, which is a constant on his head on those nights where they all feel pulled towards each other.
"Traitor," Luke laughs, letting Armitage nestle in closer to him, but he'll tell them about his travels anyways until they are all knocked out and snoring peacefully and Din can press a quick kiss to Luke's lips without having to listen to a cascade of "ew" and "gross".
And so, in the end, he always drifts asleep knowing he doesn't fully understand it, not really, how they all manage to fit so perfectly into each other's lives, how he managed to find this, this place that is domestic in a way nothing in his life has ever been, but he figures he doesn't have to understand it, not when he also knows with absolute certainty that they are all exactly where they are supposed to be.
#dinluke#oh the things we left behind#thank you for that lovely question anon#I had this in my head for a long time I'm glad it's out there now#they all deserve some cuddles and happiness#also yes I made most of them the same age to fit my timeline poe and hux are the only ones who are slightly older#imagine all of them as children in the same place pure chaos#I have some more of their shenanigans somewhere down in my notes#maybe I'll get around to writing them out one day#but now I take a nap#soph andswers asks#soph writes

Armitage: “This “offer” of negotiations is just a big show of power. The Republic wants to demonstrate to the galaxy that they are calling the shots, despite not having won a single engagement in the war."
Rose: “That, and it’s also a means to drive a wedge between everyone they perceive as having slighted them: The Resistance and the First Order, the Resistance and itself, you and the Supreme Council... and me and you.”
Armitage: "You want me to fly to Chandrila..."
Rose: "No, I don't!"
Armitage: "Then you both want and don't want it. If I refuse to stand trial, you'll think less of me."
Rose: "I... Well, yes, 'fraid so. But the point is that I don't want to think less of you. And especially I don't want to lose you."
While I was thinking of possible dialogue to go with this scene, Rose autonomously initiated bear-blanket woohoo. Since it was unplanned, we can assume that three Tico family members are in the next screenshot ;-)
Rose: "It's going 'round and 'round... If you get...”
A noticeable pause later Rose continues with a hopeful “locked up”. No matter what ambassador Trent thinks or says, the accused walking away from the trial with their lives is not a given.
Rose: “...then I will feel sad. And Connor angry, from losing his father. Jet and Nightfall will rage about the unfair way the Republic treated Whirlwind. Hatred will breed in the First Order's ranks again. But if you don't show up to that trial, the same will happen on the Republic side. One side will "win", and the other will froth. Is there really no way out? There has to be one!"
Armitage: "If there is, you're the one to find it.”

Rose ducked into the tent and immediately spied where Hux had all but encased himself in practically every blanket they’d brought with them on the mission. Only his head poked out from atop his cocoon, a frayed-looking First Order winter’s cap pulled down low over his ears, the tip of his nose a rosy red from the cold.
She couldn’t help but bark out a laugh at the sight of him, even as the sound was carried away by the strong winter wind whipping against the side of their tent.
“I thought you said you were used to the cold!” she sniggered, dropping her pack down onto their shared blanket as she sat across from him.
“Arkanis *is* cold,” he snapped, waspish despite how much of a caterpillar Rose thought he looked, “and wet, yes. *This*, however, is positively glacial.”
Rose couldn’t help but agree. Even with her native home being made of ice, all the time she’d spent in space and on Ajan Kloss had made her more used to warm climates than cold ones. And Hux was right. It was abominably fridged.
“Would it help if I said one of the supplies I bartered for was tea?” She said with a conspiratorial raised brow.
He seemed to perk up a bit, though it was hard to tell under so many layers.
“I… suppose it would be an acceptable compromise,” he muttered, eyeing Rose as she fished the rapidboil from her pack. “It would certainly help stave off the chill.”
“Better than us having to huddle for warmth!” Rose meant it as a joke, but as soon as she said it his eyes snapped to hers and the laughter died in the back of her throat.
It was like he could see through her to all the not-so-professional thoughts she’d had since they’d started this mission together.
“Perhaps,” he mused, a small, roguish smirk starting to pull at his mouth. “Although it *is* a basic tenant of survival, Miss Tico... Two bodies retain heat better than one.”
Rose almost knocked the water canteen over in surprise at the naked insinuation in his words but managed to grab it before it could spill.
